I had to laugh at the Type n Walk app. I mean, it's really kind of brilliant, because it is actually difficult to type and walk at the same time; I know, I've tried it. But on the other hand, isn't kind of sad that someone saw fit to make an app for that purpose? :P

man, I can just imagine sucking in freeze dried fragment of Dave Williams head as the tuna can flys off his head. hey, this makes ddecomposing in a coffin more attractive than being freeze dried on tuna cans.
- Marshall Sponder
from BuddyFeed
You could look at it that way, or maybe it's good that Ted Williams is still a sportsman even if it's just his head that's playing ball. :-)
- Dave Winer
I wonder if it was an 'Albacore' tuna can? *rimshot*
- Ken Morley
Dave - There must be a better way to phrase it without using "thinking and think."

'We could easily have five 90+ days in row--if we do so, we will tie the record for consecutive days above 90F in the Seattle record. If we beat 90F today, we could establish the record this week. (I am NOT hoping for this, I have to sleep at night too).'
- Akiva Moskovitz
from Bookmarklet
Rochelle has been very opposed to this but I think we're going to have to buy a portable AC unit. Audrey can barely handle it when it gets over 80º and Rochelle expects her to handle it when we're prancing around 100?
- Akiva Moskovitz
:( looks like it's gonna be hot for all of us...humidity is v high today as it is after last night's storm
- WorldofHiglet
It's the best hundred dollars you can spend here in Seattle. You don't need it often, but when you do it's so amazing. Costco has in-window ones that do a decent sized bedroom just fine, and really do you need more than your bedroom cooled?
- Sparky
we have one of those portable ac units, and it has been really useful this year...
- Bren -- feeling merry
Clark, oddly enough, different locations in the US have different weather patterns. For the Pacific Northwest, this is historic and record-breaking.
- Akiva Moskovitz
Akiva just took me to 33% lol with a chance of guffaw.
- Sparky
Sparky, we'd need something we can move about the house. We'll mostly be in the front room but we'd like to be able to take it into the bedroom or wherever.
- Akiva Moskovitz
The thing is, Clark, it may be over 90 for 5 days, but it will be over 80 for many more, and we don't have ac, so our houses stay hot, even when it cools off during the night. This, in turn, makes us uncomfortable. Do you keep your house at a comfy, constant 85*? Probably not. But that is what our houses are like right now. Also, I didn't get the sense that Akiva was crying in the first place, just making note of a historical occurrence.
- Bren -- feeling merry
I grew up in Sacramento and lived through a summer with 30+ days in a row over 100*, and I can tell you that this is less comfortable if only because I don't have central AC.
- Bren -- feeling merry
Akiva - you can get either an in-window one or a stand-alone unit for $200-$350, but they are going quick. I was at Home Depot on Lander St., yesterday and they were going quick. Still had a bunch of the in-window kind. Maybe something like this: http://www.homedepot.com/webapp...
- Brian Daniel Eisenberg
please, stop whining! We have about 9 out of 12 months straight of 90+ in West Palm Beach :)
- Tim Hoeck
Tim. We have no AC. I bet you do. Also, we have an infant. She tolerates heat a lot poorly than Akiva and I can.
- Rochelle
actually Rochelle, I do feel for you, I have no AC in my car, and an hour long drive to/from work.. which is fun.
- Tim Hoeck
yeah, but Tim, your houses have AC built in and the home construction down there is meant for 90+ consistently. Our single pane windows, built in the 50s style home construction here in Seattle means that anytime the temp gets really cold or really hot we are pretty much SOL. Most homes are not meant to withstand <30F and >90F thresholds.
- Brian Daniel Eisenberg
I know Brian, I was just messing around.. jeez people, isn't this Sunday? Serious days are Mon-Fri... I truly do feel for you guys, it sucks. We are trying to get out of FL, because I can't stand it anymore...
- Tim Hoeck
We're serious when we're talking about SEATTLE and WEATHER and the topic is NOT RAIN :) My grandmother lives in Boca, so I know exactly what you are talking about. At least we don't get the humidity too bad up here.
- Brian Daniel Eisenberg
To make matters worse, our house is over a hundred years old and still has the original glass and 'insulation'. To make matters worse, most of the windows are sealed shut (as the frames are the old-style rope & pulley systems) so we can't get proper air flow.
- Akiva Moskovitz
And, Clark, we don't know you from a hitchhiker on the highway so when you think you're being cute, you're really just coming off like a smug jack ass.
- Akiva Moskovitz
Tim, luckily the humidity will be relatively low as the heat wave passes through so we can do a few Death Valley tricks like hanging damp towels over windows and putting bowls of cool water in front of fans.
- Akiva Moskovitz
Akiva - I say go get a small AC unit if you're able to. I live in an old Victorian that was built in 1908 and know exactly what you are talking about. I have one small window AC unit that takes care of most of the downstairs. I keep all doors to unused rooms closed. etc. Reminds me that I need to go install that 2nd duct fan for my reef tank room.
- Brian Daniel Eisenberg
Brian, it's just a matter of convincing Rochelle (which I think this weather forecast from Cliff Mass just might do).
- Akiva Moskovitz
Get it. Right now. When our A/C went out a bit ago, the house quickly became miserable. And it took hours for it to cool off again. Poor Audrey. I bet you guys are getting even less sleep than usual. I can't sleep for crap if its too warm, much less hot.
- Yolanda
Well, apparently all portable air conditioning units are horrible. The only good reviews I can find on Amazon are for ones that are very expensive or currently unavailable.
- Akiva Moskovitz
Akiva, if it gets too warm, just ship Audrey down here. Matthew and Sarah won't mind one bit.
- Louis Gray
When I was working, I was in charge of researching and buying a few dozen AC units. We never found one that was good for under $600+. Some of the window units in the $400 range were tolerable, but as far as the free standing units, nope. Thus the basis for me being hesitant to buy one. Unless they've changed a lot in the year since I did that job, I imagine the situation is about the same.
- Rochelle
For those keeping score, we're ordering one of these (http://www.amazon.com/gp...) to test out in our bedroom tomorrow. If it works, we'll get two more: one for the library and one for the kitchen.
- Akiva Moskovitz
Window fans like those you just posted can be awesome!! When I was in undergrad in the Ohio River Valley where it can get hot and humid, our dorms didn't have a/c. My roommate and I were on the 3rd floor (top floor) of our dorm and we used one of these. Our dorm room was considered to be the coolest (in terms of temp) room in the building. We used another fan in the room to improve circulation. It worked out reasonably well.
- Katy S
Seriously? Chocolate covered bacon? Bacon, yes. Chocolate, yes. But together? Just doesn't sound good.
- Alex Hellstrom
Worse yet, she's going to eat the cardboard and foil wrap to boot. Just keep your hands and feet clear.
- Dave Friedel
I've had those. It's more awesome than it sounds. It's more of a chocolate bar with little bits of bacon in it. If you don't like sweet and salty, then probably stay away. Otherwise, moar.
- Chris Menning
Bacon with chocolate actually works, in a similar way to when pancake syrup gets on bacon. Surprisingly good!
- Alan
I like both separately, but the chocolate bacon I got from my sister for Christmas... not good.
- Louis Gray
Mmmmmm! Bacon! & Chocolate! Sounds like a mouthgasum to me.
- Jeff P. Henderson
Nice big slab o' Vosges you've got there. I just tried a tiny bar of that bacon-flavored one earlier this month at Whole Foods. Good stuff

As of late the whole naked video of ESPN sportscaster Erin Andrews has been all of the web. The interesting thing to me is that this article said that Google did their part by "removing search results of Erin Andrews’ naked video in their search results." I didn't know Google did that type of stuff to effect search results!? Do they do this often? - http://blog.media-freaks.com/virtual...
Not the first time that's happened. Wikipedia recently admitted to editing articles to protect a journalist who was captured in the Middle East. Google recently did a deal with ESPN to feature their content on YouTube, so it's in Google's interest to defend ESPN staff. That's always going to be the case with corporate products, including Google's. It's not like anyone's going to sue...

Marshall: I don't think Google should be curating at all - they should let their algorithm do the work by itself with no exceptions - IMHO
- Mike Bracco
Interesting but isn't this a little bit (at least) about self preservation for Google? Isn't Ms Andrews currently pursuing this through legal channels and suing anyone of distributing the video. It's arguable that search engines will start to manage this sort of thing so that they aren't included in any prosecution regarding distribution?
- Anthony Caruana
Anthony: AFAIK US law considers search engines to be safe harbors regarding such stuff
- LANjackal

Mike: Google's running a business, not an ethics/fairness clinic. Bear that in mind
- LANjackal
from IM
Anthony - this may be true in this case and it may be more black and white than other cases but at what point do you draw the line - It becomes a very slippery slope
- Mike Bracco
LANjackal: true, and I think since their entire business is based on search that they wouldn't want people questioning whether or not they are actively moderating the results - they would be far more costly long term than losing some deal with ESPN.
- Mike Bracco
Mike: how is this different in principle from Apple's censorship of their App Store, even for benign apps? It's not. If you're going to attack Google for removing search results that could have contained malware, be sure to savage Apple for removing perfectly legal apps from their store.
- LANjackal
from IM
BTW, the Erin Andrews vids were being used as malware bait, which Google has blocked access to in the interest of internet security in the past
- LANjackal
from IM
There are many ways to paint and view this story. From a privacy standpoint, from the objectifying a pretty girl and putting her on the sidelines knowing full well millions of American males will be ogling her, from a safe harbor rights standpoint, a censorship standpoint...this is a sticky situation. I think what has to be respected here above all else is a person's right to privacy, and how it was blatantly and horrifically violated.
- Mike Nayyar
LANjackal: Oh no doubt. I think Apple is totally in the wrong. They might as well ban Safari on the iPhone because I could use it to view inappropriate behavior. You won't find me defending apple there :)
- Mike Bracco
And like I said, the EA vids were also malware. Just so ppl know that
- LANjackal
from IM
LANjackal - very good thing to point out. I've noticed a trend in malware peeps using celeb incidents like this to find victims
- Mike Bracco
@bracco I have it on pretty good authority (StomperNet SEO experts) that Google has been manually moderating some search results for a good while, specifically those for "money" keywords, i.e. those that create a lot of commerce. There is just too much gaming going on in those spaces, so they intervene manually to tamp it down. Since they have the capabilities, it's easy enough to use for purposes such as this.

chrisabraham I just booked my Amtrak tickets up to New York in order to attend -- and speak at -- E.Factor, "Do It Yourself PR" http://ping.fm/Id87k
Not seeing it yet, either. But this weekend I've had over ten apps come up with updates available. So Apple must have been doing a big push to clear out the app review queue...
- Christopher A. Wichura
+1 Wayne. There´s so many other interesting UI things possible (and necessary) on the iPhone.
- Thomas Bøhm
Feeling like Wayne and Thomas. And at first I was pitifully sad b/c there was no app, but the web version is great.
- Derrick
What I want out of an app is something that can download each of my friends's streams for offline viewing. Kinda like an RSS reading app. This looks like a less featured mobile Safari version.
- Josh
This would work better on a huge ipod touch
- Charlieray
Buggy iPhone FF app costs $? They must be cash-strapped.
- You.
I tried it, it's ok but slow and the "link" function doesn't seem to work. Not yet sure how much this app improves my Friendfeed experience on the iPhone, yet
- Marshall Sponder
Isn't Friendly coming out soon which should be a bit better?
