http://twitter.com/chrispi... - Guess what some Gnomedex attendees are going to get? Yep! A Special Edition "Pirillow." Who knows how many of these are going to be made, though - so if you have the opportunity to grabbing my felty face, you might want to...

DAMN IT NOW I WANT RUM. It's weird how all week I look forward to just doing nothing at home on Saturday, and then Saturday comes and I'm going stir-crazy. Of course, the person in the apartment above me blasting their bass isn't helping...

My straw is too short for the glass. *cries* It's all the way in there. If I have to put that glass to my mouth, I'll have faux-ricane all over mah bewbies in a heartbeat.

This song, Father Figure and Kissing a Fool are my favorite Wham/Michael songs. Kissing a Fool...*swoon*

This came on the radio while in the car yesterday. I sang it to my oldest and she just thought I was nuts.
- Trish Haley
"Wake me up before you go-go" FTW and it's the song that introduced me to the genius of WHAM! BTW, is the apostrophe part of their name or is that something I'm projecting?
- Adrian
That's an exclamation point and I think it is. Like Yahoo!.
- Admiral Anika
I love this song. Never gets boring for me. And Last Christmas officially starts the Christmas break for me every year.
- pea
Oh, and yeah, exclamation point required in the name. No wonder I liked them so much. :D

Is this the same dog that was stolen or did you get a new one?
- Admiral Anika
Anika, this is Lila. I got her to be a companion dog to Bunny, who is a littermate to Dulce, who was the original dog who got stolen. (I know! it's confusing to me too.) Anyway, both dogs are small and white, but otherwise quite different. Lila's about 3 years old, she came from a shelter.
- Call me Bronco
Ah, okay. She looks quite relaxed there.

This site (http://olijfje.punt.nl/...) was hotlinking an image of the Twitter Fail Whale from my blog, so I gave them an htaccess 302 to the finger image. Hate hotlinking, man. And they have decent traffic too.
This is what it looks like: 76.204.205.252 - - [04/Jun/2009:11:29:34 -0400] "GET /wp-content/uploads/2008/09/twitter-whale.png HTTP/1.1" 302 373 "http://olijfje.punt.nl/..." "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US) AppleWebKit/525.19 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/1.0.154.65 Safari/525.19"
- Jorge Escobar
I'm thinking instead of the finger, I should probably do a sell for my blog... I'm getting a bunch of hits from that blog!
- Jorge Escobar
I get how this might be fun to do, but was the hotlinking actually harming you? It's one thing if it's MSNBC or something and they're crashing your servers or if you have to pay by the byte, but most of us don't tend to pay extra for the bandwidth.
- Davis Freeberg
"so-and-so loves my blog so much, he stole this image. Maybe you'd like it too?"
- Nathalie, Dreamer of FF
Are there any Dutch living in the house? I want to know what the article says. Otherwise I'll Google Translate it.
- Jorge Escobar
@Davis, it's harming me because I pay bandwidth charges on each one of these images served. It doesn't take even a minute to download the image to his server and serve it himself. It's just rude.
- Jorge Escobar
I don't understand, you have to pay charges everytime someone visits your site? You don't have some kind of a set limit that you're allowed to use each month. I get unlimited bandwidth (albeit on a shared server) for $7 per month.
- Davis Freeberg
@Davis There's no such thing as free bandwidth. ISPs offer "unlimited bandwidth" when they know you won't go over certain limits, but they'll cut you off if your site gets a lot of traffic
- Jorge Escobar
Not to split hairs, but if I'm only using a little bit of my bandwidth and I have extra "unlimited" bandwidth left over each month, then it's free as far as I'm concerned. Either way though, my situation is different than yours. Are you on a monthly cap and is this guy going to take you over the cap or is this a situation where you have a problem with the spirit of hotlinking?
- Davis Freeberg
@Davis, I use AWS, so I pay for each byte sent out. But I guess mostly I have a problem with the idea that you just use someone else's image without even giving credit.

The Mobile, AL fire department has a contract with the YMCA to let all of their firefighters use whichever Y gyms they want. I went for an hour with my in-laws at christmas and I was surrounded by burly men in tight blue shirts working in pairs to lift heavy metal. I was mostly intimidated, but I imagine some of y'all might've had a different reaction :P

can they fix it so it doesn't cause firefox to puke if left open for a few days?
- alphaxion
<shrug>> I guess so. Not paying attention that stuff. It's frippery & I use Twhirl. The point here is that there's a hot guy.
- Admiral Anika
Meh... I guess so. I would need at least a few tequila shots
- Johnny Worthington
Thank you Anika for pointing out hotness.
- anna sauce
And thank you Anna for recognizing the importance of the post.

Pet peeve: When someone asks of any popular web site: 'They have someone actually working on UX there?' (whether it's Google, Twitter, or Craigslist) Sorry Johnny, it's not you, it's me. :-)
- Kevin Fox
Blah, blah, blah Kevin...you agree that he's hot though, right? ;P
- Admiral Anika
I was waiting for a response from someone to throw a compliment your way Mr Fox... I withdraw my comment :P
- Johnny Worthington
ok, he may be smoking hot but he's still a very capable UI designer that people respect, ok? i feel bad and don't want to implicitly demean him, because the fragile minority of hot-guys-in-CS needs our support and encouragement

This one is of Britt Selvitelle who runs User Experience at Twitter. In the background is Loren Brichter, developer of Tweetie, and Dom Sagolla, author of @TheBook (#8 user of Twitter, who was there when Twitter was invented).
