It's a social stream of all your other stuff. Try using Digg, YouTube and twitter and add them all here and see what happens. BTW TFTA.

It's evolved into more than just a social stream of "other stuff," however. It has its own community, and thanks to a much richer and more flexible set of features than twitter, it really has the potential to be as closed as Facebook, as open as twitter, as active with discussion as IRC - all while enabling you to have a pseudo-blog where you can write longer posts, share photos and files, and link to other sites.
