What a gorgeous vinyl! Can I touch it? I really need to get myself a record player so I can become even broker yet satisfy my hunger for perfect sound & beautiful artwork. Well at least tomorrow I’ll have the opportunity to listen to After The Lights with a group of people during The Saddest Landscape listening party in the Pop Punk/Rock/Alternative/Emo room on Turntable.FM! That’s going down around 8pmEST, so if any TSL fans wanna listen to the album with fellow fans, scope out the event invitation. If you’ve never used turntable.fm before, scope this out.

ahh, I love not feeling alone. Fuck Valentine’s Day.
If groups like the MPAA spent more time creating a platform where people could buy their stuff legally and easily, instead of trying to block all this piracy, I think they’d get better results. - http://www.neeshland.com/post...

Just two more days ‘til I can add this song to my music library! So excited, the acoustic video on youtube from November sounds so promising. I’m really looking forward to the full album release, but til then- “Harvard on the Hudson” and “I Told You Already” will hold me over! Man, I love being from the Hudson Valley! So much great music. - http://www.neeshland.com/post...

I woke up with this in my head today… It’s so haunting! I absolutely CANNOT wait for the release! “Deadpan” will be on the Rebirth EP, which will be a digital download by way of Bandcamp, sometime in this first half of 2012. All of the funding acquired by purchases will go directly into the final production of the second EP, Hiatus… culminating in... - http://www.neeshland.com/post...

Gorgeous cover of my favorite Athletics song by Galleries - “Jordan” Athletics are in the process of getting their 2nd full-length LP together for release, I’m fucking stoked! Why Aren’t I Home? was my best discovery of 2011. Just ask everyone in PPRAE. This criminally unknown band is one of the top played artists on the station now! I’m so grateful for the new memories I now have from all the wonderful stories everyone shared! Definitely gonna revive the A Thousand Torches room to follow The Broken Radio on Friday nights, like we used to. It’s so much fun to share tunes and conversation with fellow fans, in real-time!

Oh by the way, if you’re outside of the US, you can bypass the international block by way of… well here, this article explains it. If you’re unfamiliar with the way Turntable.FM works, I wrote this guide that may help.

Happy 10th birthday SSTB and also to Thrice’s The Illusion of Safety! February 5th will forever go down as the day two integral bands unleashed their debuts to the world!

It’s been 10 years, to the day (according to Wikipedia), that the album which completely dominated the past decade of my life, was released.

Coheed and Cambria’s debut record, Second Stage Turbine Blade, got me to turn the radio off. I swear, SSTB was a gateway drug. I discovered so much music through it, hell- I discovered my area had our own scene! Hudson Valley, NY.

I was 15 when my close friend’s older brother assisted him in sending me select songs over AIM file transfer- to get me away from Nu Metal and boy bands. They sent me stuff like:
Saves The Day - “Sell My Old Clothes, I’m Off to Heaven” AFI - “Total Immortal” Catch 22 - “1234, 1234” The Youth Ahead - “FYM”  Shabutie - “Everything Evil”
I didn’t quite get into “Everything Evil” upon my first few listens. Once I shared that with my friend, he kinda went nuts on me. He and his older brother caught Shabutie play in Nyack a few times, a great local hardcore band that I should give another chance. He explained that they’d just changed their name to “Coheed and Cambria.” Really, they’re worth it, he insisted. So my friend sent me an MP3 of “Delirium Trigger.” That’s… when I became one among the fence.

I delved into Napster and tried to download the full album, track by track. What I found didn’t seem to sound like it fit together… and it took me several visits to finally find the intro track. Then after I did, I thought I may have downloaded some random Japanese song. There was one other song that I couldn’t find, but I eventually did.

I burned the fuck out of my 56K modem downloaded Second Stage Turbine Blade tracks on mix cds for myself, as well as the full album- so I could spin it in my mom’s minivan when she drove me places.

In retrospect, the fucking album wasn’t even out yet, when I started to try and download the whole album. It wasn’t until I finally got my chance to see Coheed and Cambria perform that I realized that.

I tried to catch a Sunday evening show at Olive’s during the summer of 2002, but my boyfriend-at-the-time’s cousin was gonna pass out. That tiny spot was PACKED! Smoking indoors wasn’t even banned yet, so there was no reentry. We had to leave, and  wait in Planet Wings next door for the boy’s mom to come pick up up. Man, I was fucking pissed! But I did manage to get a red Co&Ca period table t-shirt, and a sticker- plus a bunch of samplers and an As Friends Rust sticker.

It was Warped Tour 2003 when I finally caught my chance to see Coheed and Cambria live. Coheed was on the side stage- the crowd for them was so damn enormous, it didn’t make sense that they weren’t on the main stage.

Well, if I wasn’t already… obsessed with the album… this show really sealed the deal. All of the love and energy from both the band, and everyone around me- was like nothing I had ever experienced. Also, wtf! “Junesong Provision” isn’t an acoustic song?! I totally ran home and posted on the official forum (at www.coheedandcambria.com) that “Coheed and Cambria rocked my panties.”

I felt so bad about illegally downloading the album, that I bought about 10 copies of it, plus about 15 copies of In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3, which came out 2 months after Warped. Kept a few for myself, and gave the rest away that Christmas instead of buying everyone different presents. Dude, EVR’s website had them for $10! It was awesome!

Anyway, I’m still a huge fan- eagerly anticipating the new album. Every Friday evening I tune into The Broken Radio to hear the latest goings on in the Coheed camp plus an hour of their music.

I miss listening to Second Stage Turbine Blade with a group of people who also intensely enjoy the music. It’s really been years since I’ve been able to experience that. So to celebrate SSTB turning a decade, I will spin the full album in the Pop Punk/Rock/Alternative/Emo room on Turntable.FM, around 5pm EST. It will be over just before the Super Bowl Kick-Off. We’ll be able to listen, together, in real-time and also chat about the album. I’m really stoked for it!

It’s been a stellar 10 years. Here’s to 10 more!

Also… Happy Decennial to Thrice’s “The Illusion of Safety!”

Wooo! Only 6 more weeks of winter! Did winter ever start this year? We had that big snow storm before Halloween that left me powerless for a week, but since then… I’ve been waiting to get snowed in!
