"The Volkswagen Microbus is a classic - even to those of us born after its time. Arguably unlike the newly remade Beetle, this remake of a VW classic is remarkably true to the original on the outside - but on the inside it is a bio-diesel hybrid stuffed full of high tech gadgetry and eco-friendly innovations."

Super cool VW Bus making a comeback...
- Walt Ruppar
First of all, I'll cop to wanting one of these. That being said, Jason is right. This is for rich hippies (who probably aren't hippies at all). The VW microbus became the darling of the Flower Power crowd because it was cheap, easy to repair, and big. You could camp in it. Is there a car today that fits this bill?
- Chris Baskind
wow, you can buy an awful lot of pot with $129,000.
- Thomas Hawk
I don't know a self-respecting hippie that would prefer this over a really nice indoor greenhouse. ;-)
- Chris Baskind
@Chris, Most cars today aren't as simple, but with the wealth of knowledge online, it just takes more time. The minivan/SUV can become a camper van with a few mods. They'll never take the place of the VW, but they're an updated version of the 70s panelvan conversions (hopefully without shag carpeting & a disco-ball).
- Steven Cains
Nope: there will never be anything that simple again. That's not all bad: I can't imagine a 1960s VW Minibus would satisfy *any* federal safety standard these days. You're right. A used minivan might be the closest thing.
- Chris Baskind
Very Cool. You can't drive your house but, you can sleep in your Van !!!
- Eric Logan
Very intriguing. How much steel is in that thing? Chris, that would be my next question after fuel consumption: how safe is this thing? And I agree, when we can go back to making transportation that costs less than a small home, we may have achieved something amazing. ;)
- Melanie Reed
However, I have heard (and I'm not remembering where at the moment) that there has been a movement growing of people seeking alternative housing and substituting things like this as the new "mobile" home.
- Melanie Reed
Everyone is loving this! We should have an FF one and use it to travel to all the FFers around the World (like Pea seems to be doing ;-)). Hehe. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
cool idea, kol. the ff-stream of this tour would be alltheawe. just imagine the photos.
- esther ♥ ♫
I've owned 5 VWs, two of which were split window vans. I'd love to have another, this is awesome!
- Rick Bucich
from twhirl
I have had more VWs than other cars...starting with a 71 Superbeetle, and a Split Window Microbus. I would LOVE to have something like this.
- Kreg Steppe
Good for grandparents to visit grandchildren and children through the European continent (or another one as well)...nomadism-revival!
- Isabelle Ayel
wow i posted this a while back and now can't seem to find it for some reason. friendfeed's search function really sucks!
- Cee Bee
So after reading this article yesterday, I found myself this evening in front of a local place that specializes in reconditioning old VWs. It was closed, but there's an awesome red and white microbus out front with a For Sale sign on it. Ugly, underpowered -- and probably dangerous, by modern standards. Want. ;-)
- Chris Baskind
Cee, really? I find FF search is pretty good.
- Kol Tregaskes
I love this Mobile...owned a few Vdubs, lived in a VW camper, but this is off the hook..I would become a true nomad with this...
- bcultral
I'd like to have something like this, something small. What do you really need? A bed, perhaps a TV and room for your computer. Then you can live anywhere you like, in theory.
- Kol Tregaskes
Who is this Canadian designer Alexandre Verdier? Seems like he is on Facebook, Linked In but I can't seem to find anything else about him.
- Brian Sullivan
We had a wesvalia built Micro when I was a kid. I loved that thing. It was a little flimsily built; but boy it was perfect for my family of campers and road-tripping warriors. Too bad this one is so pricey
- Bill Rawlinson
John: I remembered the flintstones' infant daughter Pebbles Flintstone after your comment. She was using a phone like this Stone, wasn't she? : )
- Erhan Erdogan
Still: the Apple Age 1976-2008. The Stone Age 3 million BC-3000 BC. Steve Jobs ain't gonna be around *that* long (barring major innovations in life prolongation that I'm sure he'd be able to afford.)
- Victor Ganata
For most situations, I prefer the iPhone. I get really bad reception with my rock.. and it's hard to check my stocks and get directions to the pizza joint with it. But it works great as a makeshift mallet for pounding tent stakes when camping! My iPhone's a little to fragile for that. At least my iPhone can double as a flashlight in a pinch!
- Jackson D. Carson
I'm sorry for this post, I wanna delete it now. :-) I had an iPhone gift and I'm very happy with my new Apple. She is really better than stone. http://friendfeed.com/e... :-)
- Erhan Erdogan
...because it has a touchscreen, right? O:-)
- Marcos Marado
@erhan if you take c as a vector, then reversed A and B will result in a - C, which then will mean drinks again, but for a different reason I guess :) nice point
- denizoktar
and if you take the absolute value of c (why you drink), it gives you the "amount you drink"
- denizoktar
denizoktar: C is the visibility range of our lives. Save "C" and let's forget "career". :-))
- Erhan Erdogan
don't be pessimist about the hard drink. it makes all the things eaiser if you really know how to us on time. e.g. drinking a little both at starting and ending of the day will increase your productivity, right?
- Oğuz Serdar
Brilliant. I have a friend who is so in love with Precious Moments, her husband took her to their headquarters for her 30th birthday. lolwut?

"Bryan recently commented on a post over at DLK, which spoke to the negative reaction of gallerists and those in the art world to blogs. He went further and said the following about flickr: A similar stigma exist for people who use Flickr which is equally as foolish. It always amazes me that photographers would shun the largest community of photography enthusiasts on the web simply because they don't understand how to navigate the social ecosystem. Now, I'd been thinking the same as of late. It seems to me that every so often I hear someone dismissing flickr as full of flowers, cats and trees and lot's of crap. Well, true. Of course there is a lot of boring, awful photography on a site so huge but whenever I hear this, I think to myself, "This person has not made the slightest investment in seeking out all of the great photography on the site and is thus not reaping the rewards.""

Flickr represents a threat in many ways to the established fine art photography world as ranked and valued by galleries and museum curators. I'm not surprised to see resentment.
- Thomas Hawk
Very good points there, Flickr is huge so there's a lot of "flowers, ats and pets" stuff. But Flickr also makes it fairly easy to find good photography with their interestingness explore feature. And this post clarly demonstrates that there are some really great photographers on Flickr.
- Andy Kruger
from twhirl
Speaking as one who works in a medium-size west coast museum; I've seen far more photographic art on flickr than in the museum for at least the last ten years.
- Alex Williams
Flickr has inspired me to go past flowers, cats and kids. Though I still do my fair share of flowers.

Watching Scoble and Leo, etc. on Gillmor Gang. I think Marc Canter just was showing off a big bowl of pot buds on the monitor that he's on. http://live.twit.tv/
seems like Scoble left the broadcast.
- Thomas Hawk
that was crazy, wouldn't be surprised if leo doesn't allow video from him anymore
- J Allen
apparently he can show pot on his screen but you are not allowed to mention it in the chat room associated with the broadcast. The mods are threatening to kick anyone who mentions it.
- Thomas Hawk
Leo: Do you have open Speakers? Canter: OHHHHHHH YEAHHHH!
- ThePicMan
I wonder if they'll edit the part out of him showing off his big bowl of buds.
- Thomas Hawk
Usually the videos on odtv.me aren't edited... At least I've never seen an edited one from there.
- Holger Eilhard
We try to do family friendly programming because I want parents to feel comfortable letting their kids learn about technology by watching TWiT Live. I apologize for the incident - but these things can happen in a live broadcast. That video won't be rebroadcast in any form, however.
- Leo Laporte
ahhh, Leo, it's not that big of a deal. I'm sorry for mentioning it. Canter probably has the pot for medicinal purposes which is legal in CA where he lives.
- Thomas Hawk
I use Remember the Milk. Not that I'm helping at all.
- Araceli
Have not used either one. I use Omni Focus. Things seems to me a polished version of that. If you have used Omni Focus and liked it then you may like Things.
- walterh
I tried Things, but didn't like that it resides just on my Mac. RememberTheMilk is online and supports adding tasks via Twitter. If the tool isn't easy and convenient, you're not going to use it. RememberTheMilk wins on both counts.
- Brian Shoemaker
I’ve used both but I prefer Things. RTM is better for integrating into things like google calendar, etc, but I like Things for the interface (shortcut keys, tag filtering, etc.)
- FiZ
from Nambu
Remember the milk has tag filtering (smart lists) and shortcut keys
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
Hmm I have to try it out, I have been using RTM
- Fee501st
I use Toodledo thru Todo iPhone app which can also do RTM. As it's on back end, doesn't matter which I use.
- Ernie Oporto
from Nambu
Things is good, but overpriced for what it is. Stick with RTM.
- Todd Brunner
from twhirl
I use rememberthemilk and I am hapyy with how this works
- Alberto Gómez
As Things is Mac only - and I'm cross-platform, I have to stick to RTM. I still think it's good and don't see anything out there to better it
- Stuart Webb
I forgot to mention Toodledo publishes to various formats including iCal. Too bad Google Sync server doesn't seem to support vTODO objects.
- Paul Reynolds
I use Protopage. I create tabs for different projects and each of those tabs have their to-do lists, sticky notes and related bookmarks. I keep one master page for my every day to-do's and what not.
- ChiliMac
I started using the GMail's task features... suited me fine for a while. I just shifted to doing all that offline on Microsoft's OneNote

JOB OPPORTUNITY: Are you a kickass C# .NET developer with a broad skill set? Want to work for a small company where you will ALWAYS have a project on your plate? Live in San Francisco or willing to relocate? Send me a cover letter with your resume!
i know not many people are on Friday night...but bumping again just in case
- Justin Korn
This sounds like an awesome opportunity, and I might could even totally fit the bill, but sadly I'm am anchored to my upside down mortgage here in Phoenix, AZ. If you're interested in a remote resource I'd love to talk to you.
- Chrimmus Tad
I also happen to know a super duper kickass .NET developer who's also a world-class expert UI designer, etc. But she lives with me in the same house with the same upside down mortgage.
- Chrimmus Tad
San Fran, huh? I had another ping for an opp in San Fran a couple days ago. Wonder if it's the same company...
- Fa La La La Lindsay
And hey, if you could figure out a way to get us to San Fran in spite of our mortgage we could talk about that too. LOL
- Chrimmus Tad
Tad - get in touch with me (contact [at] justinkorn [dot] com). I'm not sure if a remote programmer will be ideal long term, but might need someone for projects and short term...
- Justin Korn
Lindsay - nope, i'm pretty sure it's not the same company :)
- Justin Korn
Tad - I would love to, but not a chance...haha
- Justin Korn
I'll keep bumping the crap out of this. I know a number of people who may be interested, and they may know people as well. :)
- tinypants - Hagitha of FF
Thanks Amanda. Feel free to have them contact me directly.
- Justin Korn
not sure if this is too old to bump up, but just in case, BUMP!
- Justin Korn
would they be interested in a more than kickass programmer with an mba and 10+years experience, 7 at Cisco systems? My hubbie will be looking for something in july, but can take distance work until then. won't bother him unless his profile fits the company desire.
- InPerpetualMotion(Gina k)
Gina - July is pushing it out a bit. I'm looking for someone to start hopefully within in the next month. I've got a big project lingering already.
- Justin Korn
ah well, should have him send a cv anyways? You can keep it on hand if you expand in the next few. His resume might fit down the road, or if you need a bits person for the small jobs.
- InPerpetualMotion(Gina k)
Sorry about the delay. After several conversations, my husband has decided to direct his career at entertainment companies. Evidently they are actively pursuing MBA's with the kind of experience he has. But hey, This gives your add another bump ;-)
- InPerpetualMotion(Gina k)
No worries Gina. thanks for the bump :)

"As Obama takes over the wreckage this country is in, one can't help but feel like something alien to America has been controlling it these past eight years. The wave of emotion that has erupted with the election of Barack Obama reminds me of the Allied victory in France in WWII. After a long foreign occupation in which foreign German interests occupied the agenda of France, French governance would once again be representing the concerns of it's populace. That hope seems to pervade America after it's long neocons occupation."

I buy my pork related products from sources that aren't horrible. If you buy your meat from Whole Foods, you'll pay more but get much higher quality meat that's nothing like the company profiled. Yes, much of the pork industry is disgusting.
- Chrimmus Tad
Nick, THANK YOU SOOO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS!!!!!
- Anna Haro
I'm not a vegetarian now, but when I lived in rural Missouri I was. Whole Foods cannot be found on every street corner, and not everyone can afford it anyway. What's really sad is that if you're poor in the midwest you're probably eating pork and therefore contributing to massive pig-shit lagoons that are extremely dangerous to your own safety. Vegetarianism is a nutritious and affordable habit we could all learn something from.
- Jason Wehmhoener
i'm hitting the LIKE button very reluctantly. in this case it should be called "DO NOT FORGET"

Luter, the owner of Smithfield, wants to expand in Europe, particularly in Poland and Romania. The bastard! After having killed millions of fish, made countless people sick here in the US, and ruined rivers and watersheds in North Carolina for everybody, now wants to do the same in Europe. And smarmy politicians here in the States have done nothing to stop him -- after getting hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations from him, that is. People like this are the real terrorists.
- Raoul Pop
So has Mona read this? Just wondering... ;-)
- Ňicķ
Whoa! this entire article is GROOOOOOOOOSSSSSSS!!! wow. this is ungodly farming folks. this Pig Farming CEO dude's is sick in the head from all those fumes! Vegetarianism has for a long time been proven to be good for you and the environment...this should be on the front page news, but it's not.

Thanks sincerely for the reminder...

hmmmm... not good for Bacon, but breakfast is still for winners.

It's why I don't eat meat, thanks for this post. Reblogging.

My pork does not come from these sorts of places. However, I will never buy Smithfield again even in an emergency pinch situation. Thanks for the link.

ba-dee ba-dee ba-dee That's yuckie, folks! ...

I don't eat much meat at home, but this is certainly going to make me rethink that order of bacon and eggs at a diner.

I just emailed Paula Dean the link to this RS article. I am sure she will never see it, but I am sick of her Smithfield commercials on FoodTV.

It's time to end tax exempt status for all religions in this country. The revenues would be better spent towards providing universal health coverage and it would free religions to keep their political organizations, which they are apparently intent on anyways.
- Cole Jolley
I'm a little disappointed, Leo. You know electronics break and you know that Apple will do their best to help you. At least they wanted to set an appointment. Dell would have forced you to spend hours on the phone to determine the problem and then said they can't help you and hang up.

I have the sling pro with the HD attachment and it works great locally and hardwired. The rez drops when wireless. Have never pulled it through the internet though
- ThePicMan
I was interested in a Slingbox until I found out that it uses its own proprietary protocol to stream video, it is also encrypted. So no way to record stuff. Also the HD functionality of the Slingbox Pro-HD is only available to Windows users.
- Paul Grav
The Windows-only part is a deal-breaker. All my TVs are driven by Macs.
- Dave Winer
The Slingbox-Pro with the HD octopus cable works fine with @imbutafool 's macbookpro. This is the Pro with HD attachment, not the Pro-HD http://www.slingmedia.com/go... with HD connect. Then again, I have never watched @1920x1080 on the MBP
