Ditto. Why put up barriers for others to see your cool content? Let them get a taste of it and maybe they'll subscribe after they realize they can't live without you.

Just google it: many online newspapers require to pay when you access the article directly or from their website but are free "from Google". Example: http://online.wsj.com/article... (link available on their homepage right now) vs. http://www.google.com/search... (click the first organic result). And those newspapers blame Google for stealing their content! Ah!

It's a bit disconcerting when you go to the recycling center and they have big signs that say they don't take smoke detectors because they're radioactive...

"Giant jellyfish descend on the Sea of Japan, causing untold devastation to coastal villages and leaving a trail of destruction and human misery behind.... The massive sea creatures, called Nomura's jellyfish, can grow 6 feet (1.83 meters) in diameter and weigh more than 450 pounds (204 kilos)." - Dang, girl, what did they do to piss you off???
- Fa La La La Lindsay
"This year the residents of Fukui prefecture have a new strategy to combat the giant jellyfish — they plan to eat them... Echizen kurage, also known as Nomura’s jellyfish, can grow up to 2 meters wide and weigh up to 200 kilograms (450 lbs) each. That’s a lot of sushi." http://www.pinktentacle.com/2006... NomNomNomura indeed!!

I need to be able to "Like" this several times.

And I'm just getting in the habit of listening to them. Pity. Is there any news about the plan for future distribution? Will GG still be delivered via TWiT and LL? (I've heard rumors that it'll not.)
- Jason Miller
I need the GG. If it's on TWiT that be great if not, I'll follow Steve anywhere.
- Wo
From Steve's latest post, it seems that GG is over for now. How silly and how sad, and what a loss to this community.
- Robert
Ahh that's too bad. I love that show.

Yeah, it doesn't have to be this way. I think it could be the best tech podcast out there or at least one of the best. I know there were a lot of meltdowns, not the least of which happened of course last week, but there were some shows that were just stellar. But like Peter Drucker said, "All great geniuses have the greatest weaknesses." In other words you can't be a genius without a weakness.
- Stephen Pickering
...help me out here: it's a group of tech journalists, who get together and talk about stuff, like i do with my friends. except you guys have a camera connected to an Internet feed when you do it. you still can't get together? Is this because of the "did you pay for your Pre" thing? rhetorically, of course.
- .LAG liked that
Just read Steve's post and I hope that the worst case is GG will be back after July's CrunchUp, it is the only tech podcast where discussion with precise questions happen and the realtime video element with the Skypesaurus was making it a better experience than the time-shifted podcast. As Wo says, I'll follow Steve and the Gang anywhere.
- Alberto Saavedra
It depends on how much data you have. ;-) When we have a couple of terrabytes to transfer between offices, an external HD and a courier service is still quicker and more economical than a web service.

I guess I meant that effectively replaces 2GB USB thumb drives. I keep my frequently accessed files, software tools, comics I'm reading, etc on dropbox so I have access wherever there's an internet connection and don't have to worry about another dongle on my keychain.
- Tom
Agreed, to replace a small thumb drive, it is pretty could. You can repurpose the thumb drive to be a bootable Linux for working on a clean machine, or as a recovery toolkit.

Used it since it was in Beta, pretty useful tool for small transfer of files between computers
- Tyson Williams
Awesome service. I have 3 computers that are all kept in sync with dropbox. I have 50 gb of my files synced and backed up at the same time.
- gfurry
A great web / desktop service... never leave home without it!

I don't get Arrington's point. Many journalists/bloggers get free review units all the time, and Leo said he had to return his. *shrugs* Arrington is rapidly becoming the Mark Cuban of the tech world.
- LANjackal
can't stop watching Leo say "fuck you guys..."
- Zee.
I laughed my as of. I mean holy shit man.
- Matt Ruiz
Cristo: Arrington is quite frankly an asshole. I don't get why anyone reads TechCrunch or anything related to the site, I've blacklisted it from my news sources
- LANjackal
@Cristo: I don't doubt that's the case. That's why I deliberately refrain from reading articles by bloggers who behave in that manner or are venomously biased.
- LANjackal
Leo Laporte has always been classy, even way back in the 90's when he was doing his tech radio show. That's why people listen to and respect him. The gillmor gang started out interesting like 5 years ago and quickly devolved into a sour morass of bitter tech journalists talking over each other, fighting, blathering and pontificating. They try to act as wise, old sages dispensing salient...

That's weird, I mean sure Arrington is being an ass - every single pre-launch review you see was a "free Pre" there's no reason anyone would think otherwise, but why suddently turn things off after that? That said, I've never seen that show before.
- Richard Lawler
Oops - accidentally deleted my comment. The jist was GG needs Leo (a professional broadcaster) more than it needs Arrington (a professional writer). That said, it looked a bit staged to me.
- Martin Bryant
Sorry Leo, but you just fed the trolls. Entertainment at its finest.
- Shannon
Are we going to find out a week from now this is like the MTV movie awards ala Eminem and Bruno, that it was all staged?
- Laura Zickus
I think they've already kissed and make up
- Jerome Gotangco
Laura, it definitely wasn't staged. I can tell you that Steve & Tina Gillmor were shocked, and then Steve furious that his show was cut off without his say-so. What bothers me about the whole thing is that the one who didn't do anything (steve) ends up looking like an asshole in the aftermath, inviting the Twit community to a free-for-all at his expense. He's a big boy, can defend himself, but it's undeserved and does a disservice to his work.
- Karoli
His perception was that his integrity of an honest review was questioned since he had a special hi tech unit for 7 day review. When a person is honest and their integrity is questioned it's extremely insulting. Whether the person intended it or not. From what I've seen Leo Laporte is genuine and authentic as well as transparent. Hopefully this gets resolved in the best possible way for both of them.
- James Stratford
I was watching Leo's twitlive.tv stream for hours leading up to this. Unless they palnned it the day before, which seems unlikely, it wasn't staged. Even if I hadn't been watching I would have a hard time thinking it was staged. Leo hasn't ever done a stunt like that before so why would he start now?
- jccalhoun
Part of it is jealousy on Arrington's part that he was promised a pre-release review product and didn't get it. Whereas Leo did. Jealousy is what this is.
- Diego Barros
If you've "been in the valley since '89" and haven't heard of Leo Laporte until FriendFeed, then you've been under a rock in the valley. He's been very well known in tech circles for at least the last 10 years.
- Chris Luckhardt
We each live under our own little rocks. I'm sure everybody involved in pretty much any field can name three or four or six people in that field who *everybody* MUST have heard of. Who you have or haven't heard of is a pretty lame way to keep score.
- Ken Sheppardson
Astonishing. I have watched Leo for years and have always been impressed with his amiable, good natured demeanor. I'm sad to see him lose composure like this, even if he was "provoked". In the space between stimulus and response we always have choice.
- Sean Oliver
LOL I see someone has come through and sanitized all his comments and deleted himself......again......LOL
- Matthew DeVries
Wow, totally shocking. Leo is nomally so calm, this is really baffling; out of character moment. Leo really lost it there ... Oops! That was majorly ackward
- Susan Beebe
It's obvious this thing is going too far when Arrington's wikipedia page gets hacked with the 'troll' bit.
