I like app itself. Although I can't seem to find a way to create personal playlists.

In the left column where you have home/radio/play queue hit 'new playlist' give it a name and drag your tunes in there. If you want an album as a playlist just drag that to the 'new playlist' text and drop, it will name it and fill it with the tracks for you :)

Do you have a lot smaller selection of music than us in the UK then Veronica? Just saw a reply of yours which made it sounds that way? I thought you american folk trying it out had free reign on everything we have here. Guess thats not the case.

I do not believe that's the case. They have to make deals with the American labels, the same as in the UK I'm sure. And the labels here aren't too keen on new technology a lot of the times.

Veronica, I think some of the labels are actually investors in Spotify, so I don't think they are going to have any problems getting the music catalogue.

If you have a favourite record label you can do a 'label:' search, that's sometimes handy.

I definatley think Spotify is very overhyped. It's one merrit is that it seems to be a Euro only (?) service Americans are clamoring for?

cool thing about spotify is you can scroble to last fm. for a streaming service i'm pretty happy with the sound quality. certain artists are not available or sorely lacking. the selection needs more.

I was totally cynical to begin with (and couldn't find anything interesting) but once I got a couple of playlists up and running, and discovered the shared playlist capability I really grew to love it.

Also, they get albums before they're out in the charts sometimes, like early releases, special deals they have done with the bands/labels. I've not actually bought any new music since i got in on the beta over a year and a haf ago, if and when the iPhone app becomes available, i wont need my iPod anymore i dont think.

Amy - Id still buy music, but i have a gigantic CD collection, and a huge amount of bought mp3's to fill my iPod with already. I use Spotify at work, and thats where i do the most of my listening now, so i dont see why buying it would help me. It does kind of make me feel bad for the artists though, getting their albums for free. I do still buy the odd album though, mainly small bands on smaller labels, trying to make it big.

Fee- No Pink Floyd, but try searching for David Gilmour. Thats enough to satisfy the Floyd tastebuds ;-) There is an unfortunate lack of Beatles however :-(

David, only freely available for the UK, Sweden and a bunch of other European countries at the moment. Some tech bloggers outside of these countries have been given access to it to up the hype. But yeah, you can be sneaky and use proxy's to get round it.

Veronica, oh cool i though they might also send you the IPhone version, to get some support behind it so apple will approve it. The way apple is now i don't see it. If the rhapsody app does, then Spotify might have a chance! Anyone use Rhapsody? any good?

The Spotify iPhone app has been in the app store void for a few weeks now. There is a version available for jailbreakers, still requires a premium account though.

yeah, $99 is not really the actual price is it. I mean, the "$199" iPhone was close to 600EUR if you took the $2/month for 2 year contract with no calls/texts/data plan. If you take any other contract (here in Finland, it's capped at 100MB/month regardless of plan), you end up paying a lot more.

Verizon wont build a tower for the 20 square miles where we dont have their coverage. AT&T put up a tower within 3 months after we requested(we=citizen petitions to both carriers)
