about time. I wonder if Google/Blogspot's public discussion of DMCA Takedown Notices influenced the legal team at Yahoo any.

It is good how Blogger/Google sends DMCA takedown requests to chilling effects. Flickr should do the same thing. It's a far more transparent way to handle things. A lot of the drama around the Joker/Obama takedown request was simply that flickr was so tight lipped about who filed it and refused to budge or provide any information. I'm not sure why they are so interested in "protecting" people who would abuse the DMCA.

Discussion of DMCA take-downs should be public, ie The right to face your accuser type of concept.

Good point Travis, and for Google/Blogger they are. But then again I doubt that Google enforces DMCA takedowns for "Joe Blow" from "Anywhere, USA". If flickr decided to make their DMCA takedown requests public, like Blogger, they might look foolish for some of them or be criticized when they follow blatantly fake notices. Still, mom always said transparency is the best policy, it would be nice to get Flickr to agree to send notices there.

Agree, transparency is the best practice... always... it can only ever make you better, ie fixing problems that are highlighted or providing as much information to those that want/need it. Making any decision open allows everyone to see that you are are least trying to be honest with the public (your customers) and not hiding behind those decisions.

Thomas - Has Zooomr had to deal with DMCA takedown notices? How has it handled them?
- TranceMist
TranceMist, very little. The last DMCA takedown notice I remember getting was the Michael Crook one which we ignored.
- Thomas Hawk
@TranceMist - I had to send DMCA takedown notices to have my own photos deleted from Zooomr's cache last year...so yes, they have. ;-)
