In terms of why Yahoo! has done this, Heather Champ was the first Flickr employee to speak up officially, suggesting that Yahoo! did this to “quell those weird intermittent stories that bubble up that Yahoo! is on the verge of pulling the plug on the Flickrverse.” Personally I follow Flickr pretty closely and haven’t heard any rumors like that, but I suppose that’s easier than saying that Yahoo! would like to smack you in the face with their branding every time you look at any page on Flickr. Feels a bit disingenuous to me though.
