Thomas: Cheapest SF gas now is $4.17. I just filled up again... Re: environmental impact of car: Cost of gas still pales next to cost of a new car. For me, 12,000 miles/yr x $0.16/mile = $1,900/yr in gas (used to be $500/yr). Cost of a new car ($3,000-7,000+/yr) plus increased insurance ($300-3,000+/yr) still dwarfs the gas cost, and the envionmental cost is bad.
