Here is how I am thinking about how to do it: 2 comforters, made with foam (for more shape support) in addition to the traditional fiberfill, and a fitted sheet made with a knit material that covers both box spring and mattress, instead of just the mattress. (knitted material will give a tighter fit, and covering both would avoid the appearance of a split in the ice cream) Without a bed frame, placed directly on the floor, you'd have the same look as this bench.

I was thinking of maybe both small ice cream sandwich pillow shams and twin pop ones. The ice cream ones would be made essentially same as the bed covering, with 2 quilted pieces for top & bottom of it with a strip of white material between them, which is where the pillow would actually be. There's nothing advanced about the options, just select customize from the initial drop down list, then select "only to me" or whichever other option you want. It is a terribly inefficient way to do things, obviously. I think the problem is really that people lead multiple lives, present distinct personas to different groups of people, in different settings, and they are finding that hard to do, using a service is based on a "one person, one account" system. People want one set of info for the conservative, oldfashioned part of their family, one for the cool, hip part of their family, one for friends, one for work, maybe one for church, etc.

I've pretty much blocked every application on Facebook at this point, so apps aren't so much a problem now. Now that I've got most everything hidden from being public (thanks, LAN), I may be more comfortable with Facebook for now. One very important set of privacy settings I changed were the settings controlling what your /friend's/ apps can access in your profile.

Well, there are two sets of app privileges, actually. There are the apps you subscribe to. You explicitly give those apps access to certain parts of your profile when you subscribe. But there's also a set of permissions buried a couple of levels down in your privacy settings that determine what parts of your profile your friend's app (that you aren't subscribed to) can see.

@LAN, there is a point though where a person may have to make a decision on if the policies of the company run counter to what privacy you're willing to give up, though. I draw the line when I'm no longer able to control what information is released to the public (or to apps I'm not subscribed to). Also, I love the FreeBSD ports collection (which Gentoo tried to imitate). cd /usr/ports/devel/git; make install will fetch git, build it, and install it, and automatically deal with any dependencies as they arrive.

Two more disks are showing read errors, including the boot disk. This is not good at all. Maybe WD actually qualifies RAID-level drives, and rebrands the crappy ones (with bad sectors which auto-remap) as consumer-level. With auto-remapping turned off, errors start creeping in within days.

Eric: While trying to stress the disks with a few dd commands running in parallel, I can't get them to heat up above 26 degrees Celsius. I'd say that cooling inside my box works well. The two newly failed disks have 5 UNCorrectable sectors each -- and that's just because the SMART buffer only remembers the last 5 errors.

Tudor: FWIW, random activity is much more stressful (and power consuming = heat producing) than the contiguous reads/writes you get from dd. Try bonnie++ or iozone if you'd like to really hit the system. Glad to hear you're up and running - ZFS is fantastic stuff.

I always donate to the Phelps-a-thon. You pledge a small amount per minute that Phelps harasses people, which is then donated to the group.
