13 Abandoned Stations & Disused Platforms of the London Underground
Show all
"No doubt about it: there’s something spooky about the London Underground. From classic Doctor Who to An American Werewolf in London and the as-yet unaired series 3 opener of Sherlock, the Tube has featured as a backdrop to all sorts of spectacular and unnerving adventures. As the world’s first underground rail network, it has managed in the last 150 years to etch itself indelibly into the British psyche – a separate world running just underneath our own where seemingly anything can happen." - Mark H from Bookmarklet
"Perhaps nowhere typifies this sense of intangible possibility more than the abandoned stations. Silent, hidden and deeply spooky, they lurk out of sight around corners, below thrumming lines and behind steel doors. Out of sight and out of mind, they nonetheless exert an almost subconscious pull on visitors, thrilled by the peculiar creepiness of an empty platform. If you’re ever looking for a quick thrill in central London, be sure to check out these silent ghost stations" - Mark H
Our members study and investigate man-made and man-used underground places — from mines to railway tunnels, military defences to nuclear bunkers and everything in between. http://www.subbrit.org.uk/ https://twitter.com/subbrit - Halil

The selection on Xbox/PS4/Chromecast/etc. looks positively archaic in comparison to Roku. I don't want another set-top box, but…tempting.

"Akira, Tron, I don't care what pop reference you pick. The new Kawasaki J Three Wheeler EV—presented today at the Tokyo Motor Show 2013—is absolutely /insane/. [...] The bike has different modes depending on your style and mood, and you can morph between them." - Andrew C (✔) from Bookmarklet
Big Joe Silence
The path of the righteous musician is beset on all sides by the inequities of the band mates and the tyranny of evil management.

"Canadian photographer François Brunelle is on a mission to find 200 doppelgängers around the world. "It is not about looking like famous people," his website explains. "The fact that two persons, totally unrelated to each other, sometimes born in different countries, share the same physical appearance is really the essence of the project." He's been at it for a while, but I just found the project on Visual News, via David Pogue. You can see plenty more lookalikes on Brunnelle's website. Here's a taste!" - Son of Groucho from Bookmarklet
He needs to photograph the people in this drama I just started watching. Two guys in the show look exactly alike. The fun part is that there's another singer/actor who also looks like them. - Anika
There was a DNA project featured in a science magazine a few years ago. The magazine escapes me but the feature showed a dozen or so people all from the same mitochondrial DNA family. It was absolutely uncanny at the similarities. None of the people in the article knew of each other. - Janet
Wow! That's so cool. Would love to find my "twin". - Melly

A Gunny named Slickback
In the Marvel universe, do things exist across comics? Do the avengers know the X-men for example?
There have been crossovers - Jed knows a ton about this. - ωαřмaiden ❤Bassetmom❤
Yep, they do. It's a shared universe in which Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, X-Men, Avengers, etc. all live in the same universe. In fact, there have been studies that examine how the Marvel Universe almost looks like a real social network: http://arxiv.org/pdf... - Jed
I'm watching last night's Agents of Shield and my first thought was the Scorch guy is a mutant. - A Gunny named Slickback from FFHound(roid)!

I have had it. Now looking to install Ubuntu on my computer. #windowssucks
you should install centos! - Sir Shuping is just sir
its one of the free linux distros, closest to being Red Hat Fedora, but without the cost: http://www.centos.org/ my sys librarian pointed me to it and I like it, easy to setup and maintain - Sir Shuping is just sir
I'm sticking with Ubuntu because it seems to be what the mentors are familiar with. No time to fool around. - LB's Bubba. The other 1

Dual boot windows and Ubuntu. shrink your volume and create a partition for it - Mike Nencetti
That's what I did, Mike. Post-install I can boot to Windows, there's a GRUB entry for Ubuntu but goes to black screen. After searching, sounds like a display driver issue. - LB's Bubba. The other 1
Linus Torvalds blames video card manufacturers for issues like these. I used Ubuntu but got tired of the endless multimedia issues You should just make an 8 gig USB Ubuntu boot drive and tinker with it. They are easy to make. You don't have to boot off of the c: drive. - Mike Nencetti
I recommend Xubuntu. - Julian
I'm a fan of Xanadu. *laces skates* - Sucker DJ LB from Android
I recommend anything other than Windows :) - imabonehead
