Fuck you, US Airways. When good companies face circumstances they cannot control, they inform, communicate & accommodate. But you've obfuscated, complicated, and suckinated at every opportunity. Even your employees hate you. May the fire-ants of bankruptcy feast upon your rotten soul.
I can pretty much make the same statement, but substitute Delta for US Airways.
- Rene, Pro Button Pusher
yeah i think i'll be driving up this summer instead of flying even though it takes 3-4 times as long as flying -- especially now that i've got this: http://ff.im/kDGxA

*This* is why I abandoned US Air a couple of years ago. Thank God that Virgin America flies a nonstop LAX <-> BOS three times a day. Not only do they blow US Air away in every way, but it's FAR better to just suck it up and drive up from Boston than risk dealing with this horror show. We can't control the weather, but we can control how we deal with customers. If they had listened to me...

Oh and the absolute dearth of flight information made available to customers is ridiculous. Flights are marked as "on time" when the airline KNOWS they are not; the estimated arrival times are not updated until the plane is already on the ground; staff members routinely lie about flight durations to get rid of plaintive customers and convince them to board flights to nowhere, KNOWING...

And what kind of airline installs wi-fi while deactivating ALL power ports (and in-flight entertainment) on ALL domestic jets (even the new Airbuses) to "save on fuel costs"?? US Air, that's who.

Wtf, the have wifi and no power on top of all this BS? Aww man, this is like my recent trips. Total airline fuckery.

I think you should maybe stay from the Circa line. I can't get the Platinum page to load to see what it looks like. Do you wear jeans? Oh, my opinion's useless, anyway. I look at my clothes, select a solid-color shirt, a solid-color pair of pants, try not to mix two primary colors, and that's my fashion sense.

I thought of this the other day; waiting at the street light was an old Asian guy decked out in FUBU and wearing Timbos. I'm still kicking myself for not snapping a picture. I know he knew he was fly.

I'm with Derrick. I have returned several FUBU gifts given by well-meaning friends/relatives.

Well, as far as I'm concerned, NO ONE looks good in Fubu gear. It's in the same category as Crocs: no matter WHO wears them, they end up looking like dumbasses.

Companies really should do a better job of retaining their employees. This is PARTICULARLY true in a bad economy. Because once the economy improves, the companies that don't do well with retention will pay dearly for it.

"Following" the path of least resistance is still choosing a path. Conclusion: the river is lazy.

In 20 minutes the market showed that it is as broken as it was at the nadir of the market crash. Through its inactivity to investigate the market structure, the SEC has made things a million times worse, as HFT-trading seminars for idiots are now rampant. HFT killed over 12 months of hard fought propaganda by the likes of CNBC which has valiantly tried to restore faith in our broken capital markets. They have now failed in that task too. After today investors will have little if any faith left in the US capital markets, assuming they had any to begin with. We need to purge the equity market structure of all liquidity-taking parasitic players. We must start today with High Frequency Trading.

Have a feeling all of these people looking at the V-shaped economy are being jaded by the retail reports and the melt-up directionality of the market. There are still some huge hurdles coming up in the next 6-18 months: ARM resets and their long-term effects,
the fact strategic defaults, create liquidity in consumption, which could vanish after foreclosure, and federal interest rates will have to increase at some point in the future. These are just a few off the top of my head. The situation isn't as rosy as it looks, people are just getting what they can while they can.
- Jimminy, CoG of FF
Naw, the way the government is dealing with the toxic real estate asses means that that stuff can't cause anywhere near as many problems as what led to the crash.
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
And actually we're looking at less of a V and more like a check-mark with job losses, oh there is one, the shriveling of Unemployement benefits.
- Jimminy, CoG of FF
And this isn't a V shaped recovery from what I can see...more of a slanted L
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
Alex I said that, check-mark shaped, also they could still cause quite a problem when they occur in succession, likely next fall-spring.
- Jimminy, CoG of FF
Face it. The west is over. It's China's and India's turn.
- Vezquex
And much more. Unemployment the main hurdle, in my mind.
- Stephen Mack
Yes, Stephen, that is the longest-term, and the benefit situation is pretty bad, 6.5MM are gone this month or next.
- Jimminy, CoG of FF
Joe, the government, is indebted to China, so much so that China can't let us go under without destroying their own economy. It's actually quite ironic.
- Jimminy, CoG of FF
Also, looking into Asia a bit more, China with the government stepping in to try and ease the real-estate market, may cause some trouble, ultimately it's better to ease it out before collapse, but it doesn't completely mitigate all the risk, plus there will be widespread job losses in one of China's biggest employment sectors.
- Jimminy, CoG of FF
Real unemployment is somewhere around 25% counting underemplyment and PT instead of full time jobs. I'm guessing that coupled with continued drama with defaults and under water morgages will pretty much stall reverse recovery. We're being fooled by strategic defaults pumping up the economy that can't last

To the parents and those expecting out there...how did you feel about having a kid before you started the process? What were your fears and how did you get over them?
Alex, my biggest fear was that I wouldn't be a good father. The jury's still out on that, but I think our kids are great. :)
- ha3rvey (Hugs 50% off!)
Yeah, I think my biggest fear is about losing my self, my interests, all that free time...that I'm now going to be responsible for this little life and I can't walk away from it.
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
Great question. 1. Do I have enough money (make enough) to be able to afford kids? 2. Can I take care of them in the physical sense (changing diapers, roof over their heads, time and energy)
- Chris Greene
and then after Cora was born I honestly was worried that I would not be able to give enough love to the second child because I loved my first so much! How stupid was that???
- Chris Greene
My only sage advice would be that kids are just another part of the journey. Like buying your first house, running a marathon or doing anything new and scary the reality is not nearly as terrifying as the "unknown" that precedes it.
- Chris Greene

- Chris Greene
Thankfully, children tolerate a wide bandwidth of incompetence. They do need some basics: consistency, boundaries (whatever yours may be, stay with them), love and nurture, and the abiding understanding that the people that were there when they went to bed, will be there when they wake up. Beyond that, it's a crap shoot. No one is "prepared" for parenthood. I fail misreably as a father...

I had my daughter later (34) and I worried about the same things. If something is a priority it will get done. I also had a real burst of creativity afterwards that was really unexpected. If you're not sure I would recommend trying.

I think you should just do deep introspection and see if you want kids. Picture them before you. Picture yourself being a father. Than see how much that would be worth to you, in comparison to the other things you spend time on now. I don't think you can ever lose your "self". Your self as a father will just be a bit different. I don't think I would ever have characterized myself as a 'kid' person. They were far more annoying than cute and I simply couldn't see parenthood as *that* rewarding. I'm kind of sad that I didn't get in to NFLX when they were a lot lower. They got another 8% boost today and will only go higher as they take market share from Blockbuster and Hollywood Video. Netflix has shown they are able to adapt to market changes and they are a really well run company.
This room is about talking about what you are interested in investing and to get new ideas, fresh perspectives...it isn't about right or wrong.
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
Having unorthodox perspectives would actually be a good thing.
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
I've always liked NetFlix, but at first I thought they would eventually be bought out by Blockbuster or the studios would get upset, especially as cozy as they were with Blockbuster, and somehow finding a way to monkeywrench the whole thing. Now, the biggest competition appears to be the corner RedBox vending machine. With all of the Netflix integration on so many devices and driving out physical delivery costs with streaming, it can only go up IMO.
- Eric
I have to agree with Eric, I think we all assumed that Blockbuster would have acquired NetFlix when it could but those days are too late. But I'm surprised that NetFlix hasn't tried to acquire GameFly.

You could just leave anonymity out of it. Proliferation of dickishness however you do it just ain't cool.
- Victor Ganata
The answer to dickishness is not to be more of a dick, though. I always prefer to take the high road, if I can.
- Stephen Mack
There is no high road, there is only truth and the truth is that while his userID is cristoblanco, his name is Chris White.

If the person in question approached me and requested I stop using their name, and they provided a sound reason outside of 'MY actions are damaging MY cred', then I would most likely stop... I prefer interaction with poeple, not characters.

Heh, Matthew, all these threads on the same topic. I'm amused that they all start out generic and then become specific about the same incident. I have no skin in this game, but I disagree vehemently with Alex's stance because it strikes me as far more impolite than anything Chris has done. Just my opinion, though.
- Stephen Mack
If you think this is far more impolite than anything that Chris has done, then you obviously don't know what he's done very well.

Alex, maybe I don't. Maybe if I disliked him as much as you do, I'd react the same as you. But (perhaps wrongly) I think that I would honor a request from ANYONE who makes a simple polite and private request to me.
- Stephen Mack
Johnny, you may recall that I told Cristo publicly that I thought what he did to imitate you on 4/1 was unfunny and being a jerk.
- Stephen Mack
I don't care about Chris White one way or the other, really, which is why I have no reason to honor his request.
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
Cristo, did you ever apologize to Johnny?
- Stephen Mack
I'm going to call for a beer summit next.
- Stephen Mack
Cristo, take the high road. Apologize. Good things will come of it.
- Stephen Mack
Becuase, Cristo, frankly I don't trust you. More than likely you would have revealed my message. I could point to previous examples of DM's being released publicly but they are all deleted now. Basically, I didn't think you deserved the courtesy. In regards to the 'complaint', I have stated the events previously.
- Johnny
from IM
There is no high road for Chris White to take since he has repeatedly deleted his threads and thus taken the low road far too often to be protected by the likes of me. I value truth above all else and ANYONE who knows me knows this.
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
Johnny, will you accept Cristo's apology?
- Stephen Mack
There's not room on FF for three such prominent members with so much to offer to be bickering so publicly. The past is done (and in Cristo's case, deleted). It's time to let bygones be bygones. Let all past disagreements be set aside. I honestly like Johnny, Cristo and Alex and don't like to see them fight.
- Stephen Mack
I do not seek an appology. None needed. I'm good. I'm sorry that the FriendFeed admins contacted Cristo and started this rukus. I admit I am precious about my identity, something I have worked hard to carve out... but in the light of today's discussions, one's identity is important... but on'es actions under that identity is also important. I have no beef with Cristo.
- Johnny
from IM
Alex: How about it? Will you agree to set aside the past, move on, and honor Cristo's polite, earnest and respectful request to you to not use his full name?
- Stephen Mack
Nope...not in this lifetime, because it is not a polite request and goes against everything that I believe in.
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
Fair enough. But have I ever done anything to give you reason to believe that I'm not polite and sincere?
- Stephen Mack
Saying that, I am still going to call out dickishness when I see it. If one abuses a respectful agreement, then it's open season. So acts of dickishness are to large to get over with a simple sorry.
- Johnny
from IM
But I have no specific beefs... Life's too short
- Johnny
from IM
Johnny, that's fair, if someone acts like a jerk it's definitely okay to tell them what you think. But personally I don't like to hold grudges. If someone does me wrong and apologizes, I prefer to forgive and move on.
- Stephen Mack
Alex, here's my request. I don't know Cristo in real life, and I am only making this request on his behalf because I want the FriendFeed community to prosper. I am asking you nicely -- for me and for the health of FF -- to please honor the request of not using Cristo's full name. Please.
- Stephen Mack
1UP Stephen. Life is too short for grudges. I prefer to enjoy life, not suffer through it.
- Derrick
And for the last time I deny this request because it goes against everything that I believe in. So please stop asking. It's not going to happen. And this is not a grudge. This is me telling the truth because that's all matters more to me than just about anything else.
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
"and apologizes" - did that happen?
- Andrew C (✓)
Stephen, to know the full history is to know this is a bridge not solved with one plank of wood.

Stephen, you're coming across like a 1st grade teacher. "Now Cristo, you say sorry to Johnny and Alex"...

Well, if they weren't acting like first graders....
- Nakachi
Mellissa, not my intention. I do have two young kids, so maybe that's what slips out. But I am trying to create a dialog between three people who have a lot to offer and mean a lot to the FF community.
- Stephen Mack
Johnny, what's past is past. Maybe we can't build that bridge today but maybe we can make progress.
- Stephen Mack
Thanks, Cristo and Johnny. Alex, the truth at all costs? That's a very high standard. I will stop asking, as you request -- gotta head home now. But my very last word on this topic is to see one last time if you will reconsider Cristo's request to stop using the name he asked you to stop using. You can call him names if you like, but there's zero reason not to honor that request. To not use a particular name is not lying, it's just saying X instead of Y. Everyone knows who X is.
- Stephen Mack
What, like they knew who Suzy S was? Or AC Delco?
- Andrew C (✓)
Seems to me like I was discussing Stephen's point directly above ("Everyone knows who X is."). And as it turns out, my last name is very easily available from my linked accounts here, so I'm not trying very hard to disguise myself.
- Andrew C (✓)
Again, the point was raised here in this very thread, in the message directly above mine -- and not by you, by Stephen -- it should be discussed here.
- Andrew C (✓)
I guess my point is that I have no patience for sockpuppetry. Cristo Blanco is an obvious psuedonym. Suzy S is not. Nor was "Johnny Worthington".
- Andrew C (✓)
The other thing is, exactly how much fun is it, and for who? I mean, people are blocking you, and whatever, I don't care, I haven't blocked you yet, but the point to me seems to be that you delete and re-create your account specifically to get around blocks.
- Andrew C (✓)
I always assumed the deletions were to enhance the joy of the ephemeral.

Why does it seem to me that the only people that have a problem with the concept of anonymity are the ones who are abusing the privilege? It's like turning on a light in a room full of cockroaches. So many people on friendfeed are being extremely intellectually dishonest vis a vis the Chris White thing. If you even bothered to do a Google search for Chris White (http://www.google.com/search...) you would see that his name is already tied to the cristoblanco account. That info is in the public domain.
No amount of lack of usage of that data from hereon in would get rid of that linkage. To gang up on me on this in favor of an internet troll is beyond the pale and those people really should be ashamed of themselves. But thanks for showing me who's keeping it real on friendfeed and who's not.

To add to that, the money managers which he cites in the article will control the movement of the stock. If investing in a high priced stock like AAPL makes you nervous, it should. I don't have a problem with chasing it a little if it moves up towards 225 and if i trends down I will buy about every 5-10% slip another 25% in total volume. The fundamentals for AAPL haven't changed.

I used paper route money and my mom took me to Merril Lynch where the president of the branch waived the commission so I could buy 1 share at $17.50.
