I must study politics and war so that my sons may have the liberty to study mathematics and philosophy. My sons ought to study mathematics and philosophy, geography, natural history, naval architecture, navigation, commerce, and agriculture in order to give their children a right to study painting, poetry, music, architecture, statuary, tapestry,... - http://www.amazon.com/Disrupt...
apparently louis gray has written about friendfeed 693 times - i thought it was more like 1,200 but who is counting! - http://www.growmap.com/robert-...
It's not that many. :-) Nice try, guys. FriendFeed is in my blog post signature and in the sidebar, so there are tons of false positives. Besides, to date, there are 1,661 total posts on my site. FriendFeed debuted in October of 2007, and I've been blogging since Jan. '06 there. It's mathematically practically impossible.

louis - when i use the pi/r² formula on your site, i believe it is mathematically practically possible. whether it's plausable, we will leave that to a jury of your peers.

I can't wait for the voice recognition app to come out so I can talk about it. David, I like the web version of Gmail on the iPhone, personally.
- Matt Cutts
yes, gmail on the iphone is really cool, I actually like searching for things better on the Google iphone app than on my computer.
- Kelly Johns
Err Matt, waiting for something to come out just to blab about it is a bit...boring!? And voice recognition has been around as long as google...on phones even. Nothing new. It was probably reverse engineered from Dragon Naturally Speaking v10 anyways. Hehe.

Matt, I like the iphone web version of gmail too, but sometimes it doesn't format the mail correctly. maybe that's a problem with the senders html, but Apple mail app on the iphone works perfectly
- David Jacobs
Still not in itunes yet! Will this be an update to the Google Mobile App if I already have it on my phone or is it a new app?
- Kelly Johns
This is cool, but like most iPhone apps only popularizes stuff that's been around for a while on other hardware, and makes it work nicely.

I have immense respect & admiration for Eric Schmidt (CEO of Google). In this article, he's quoted on economic stimulus: http://www.reuters.com/article...
"Schmidt favors a new stimulus package that is more carefully focused than the previous effort. He said the first stimulus plan was "a bad decision on their part. A much better decision is to give out money that solves some other problem, like infrastructure."

As a Googler, I hear Eric speaking at work many times each year, and I'm constantly amazed and appreciative at how thoughtful and articulate he is. It's clear he plans to remain at the helm of Google and I'm quite happy about that. But admittedly a part of me would love to see him play a significant role in American government someday.

"When I think about me I Google myself" cute... I'd also like to have this automagically pop to the top in one year and see how many of the sites mentioned are still active.
- Clare Dibble
There are some good points here, but joel is missing some more strategic things a vertical could do. Using query logs to create user profiles that can be targeted by advertisers and used as the basis for a broader advertising network has tremendous potential. The query logs are what make these companies valuable, and they're very difficult to replicate.

Specifically, while I realize polls need to be analyzed carefully and viewed skeptically, I read one which starkly showed that people would gladly vote for a black or hispanic man or a woman (of any race) WAY before they'd consider voting for an atheist. And, separately, on the issue of heightism... study after study over the years demonstrates how severe the discrimination is in politics, finance, and romance.

In chatting with a guy friend who is 5'3", one thing we were scratching our head over is how much more open European women seem to be to the idea of dating shorter men compared with American women. I have a few theories, but don't want all American women pissed at me right now........ :) Okay, I think I've talked to myself enough here on FF.
- Adam Lasnik
As an American man of shorter stature I am disturbed to learn that women don't like me, why was I not told of this development?
- John Honeck
Hey, what about non-Americans!?!?!?! You're discriminating against the largest part of the population.
