I agree with his reasons 100% - I've gotten incredibly nervous in interviews and it always screws up my thought process. I used to have the same problem playing trumpet - I was first-chair trumpet all through High School but when it came to competition I'd always tense up and screw up my audition. - Jesse Stay
I've gone through some pretty rigorous interviews and even gotten the job, but there are some I've gone through that when I get home I realize how badly I messed up because I was nervous. - Jesse Stay
Paul Buchheit
"I don't think Apple realizes how badly the App Store approval process is broken. Or rather, I don't think they realize how much it matters that it's broken. The way Apple runs the App Store has harmed their reputation with programmers more than anything else they've ever done. Their reputation with programmers used to be great. It used to be the most common complaint you heard about Apple was that their fans admired them too uncritically. The App Store has changed that. Now a lot of programmers have started to see Apple as evil. How much of the goodwill Apple once had with programmers have they lost over the App Store? A third? Half? And that's just so far. The App Store is an ongoing karma leak." - Paul Buchheit from Bookmarklet
Even as an end-user, Apple's approval process for the App Store seems heavy-handed and censorious. It makes me like them less. - Spidra Webster
From the OP: "with fussy tastes and a rigidly enforced house style." - fussy tastes is spot on, but rigidly enforced house style doesn't quite describe the most irritating thing: unpredictable criteria/enforcement. - Micah Wittman
Paul B, what's you take on the other Paul's statement: "I think the reason Google embraced "Don't be evil" so eagerly was not so much to impress the outside world as to innoculate themselves against arrogance." ? - Micah Wittman
Is the App Store approval process cumbersome? Sure. Is it completely and totally broken, no. There are over 100,000 applications, LOTS of developers, and because one or two vocal development groups "pull out" it doesn't mean it's doomed. Apple has not "harmed their reputation with developers", I AM an iPhone Application Developer, I've actually SUBMITTED an application (have you Paul?),... more... - Rob Pickering
Rob, Paul Graham, who wrote the essay (not to be confused with Paul Buchheit, who shared it here), advises startups that publish iPhone apps, notably Dropbox. - Bruce Lewis from fftogo
Tough challenge, dealing with the "community," while enforcing strict standards. I'm glad they're holding the app-dev's to a high standard. One big security hole due to a lax in rules just to be "nice" and iPhone AND Apple's rep turns to applesauce. Seems they need about twice the personnel to get through all the work. Again, tough challenge. - John Coonen
"Programmers don't use launch-fast-and-iterate out of laziness. They use it because it yields the best results." -- well said - ǝuǝƃnǝ
Security holes aren't due to lax rules. It takes a broken sandbox. You don't need app approvals to maintain a sandbox. - Peng-Toh
It's analogous to Yahoo trying to maintain curated links versus Google's pagerank. It doesn't really work past a certain level of scale. - Todd Hoff
Graham describes Android as an orphan; I don't think that's the case. It's being actively updated, and evangelized for use in all kinds of devices (not just phones). If anything, I think Google considers Android more strategic than they let on. - Kevin Shaum

My first interview with a Kodak Zi8: http://scobleizer.blip.tv/ with @alanwarms of @appolicious -- I LOVE the Kodak. Far better than Flip!
Robert: what's the resolution of this video, 720p or 1080p ? It gets chopped. - Nir Ben Yona
I believe I've been shooting at 720p because well, the file sizes online get compressed anyway so no need to shoot higher resolution. Plus it means I can record more. - Robert Scoble
Thanks. I guess I should really get myself an Nvidia ION netbook ASAP ;) - Nir Ben Yona
The video looks great! I've been putting off my purchase of the Zi8 until Flip came out with a new camera, but they announce one today, and it doesn't have an image stabilizer. In my opinion, an image stabilizer is a minimum requirement for this type of camera. Maybe they'll come out with another one before Christmas, but I would rather not wait any longer. - Michael Fidler
external mic?!? - Simone Tedeschi
Michael: I'm thinking about getting the new Creative Vado, next month. I've been testing it for a while and received great results compared to the Flip. Never tried the Zi8 though. - Nir Ben Yona
How's the audio? Do you get a high pitched sound on yours? - Rodfather
I've been comparing all of them, but I should take a harder look at the Vado. It seems like the Kodak has the most features and quality in this category. It has a mic input, image stabilizer, 1080P, and the final result is excellent as you can see in Robert’s video. - Michael Fidler
ok then i need to ask u a question - i have been working forever putting this education program for the community and inner city kids and part of it I will be broadcasting to the class live from an expedition I chose so they can physically see what they had just learned......I am looking for a new video camera and I just want another digital - recommendations????? I saw a few that looked awesome but didnt know enough - Emy C McSweeney
Simone: no. I am JUST using the Kodak in my video there (the appolicious ones). - Robert Scoble
Emy, are you looking to buy a camera for live streaming? - Michael Fidler
Michael I Have the Vado. I like the Kodak better. Rodfather: the audio sounds fine to me. - Robert Scoble
It's still a tough call with these. The iPod will probably take over this space. Digicams still provide more value for the cash. The Panasonic ZS3 looks nice. Wide lens, 12x zoom, optical stabilizer, and 720p recording to AVC Lite. I guess it depends on much stuff you want in your pockets. - Rodfather
Yes I am.....suggestions??? Advice??? - Emy C McSweeney
Streaming live adds a lot to the cost. If you want to stream from almost anywhere, it's going to take a cell connection. The easiest way is probably an iPhone with qik.com or ustream.tv. - Rodfather
Emy, if you want to live stream, then you don't want to look at these cameras. They're great for uploading to YouTube or Vimeo, but it still is not live. If you want to go live the Nokia Smart Phones, like the N95/96 are excellent choices. There are bunch of new one’s coming out with even higher resolutions, but you might not be able to wait that long. It gets more complicated if you want to use Digicams. It’s possible, but I don’t know if you want to go there. - Michael Fidler
I ordered the Zi8 a couple of days ago; it should be here today. I was surprised that you weren't using an external mic. I was stressing over which external mic I should get but the built-in mic sounds great! I can't wait to get mine! - William McCamment
i have zi6 - is the 8 much better? - Allen Stern

iTunes Home Sharing is simply awesome. I'm using it right now to copy/sync all my music to my new laptop and it's working great. It's exactly how I've wanted iTunes to share all along.

I love it when software updates introduce a tool that I actually use :) - Ross Miller
I love that too! - AJ Batac
How is this different from sharing the library the way it used to work? Or is this more useful for when you want to disconnect the network and still have access to all the music? - Benjamin Golub
Benjamin: exactly. It works like the transfer purchases feature on iPods and iPhones: you don't have to be connected to the home network to play them, because the files are copied to your computer. - Mark Trapp
Wait, you can finally use the songs you buy on more than one computer without having to jump through hoops? My boss would've loved this feature five years ago. Explaining DRM to him was not fun, he just wanted his $1 songs to be playable on all of his PCs. - Daniel J. Pritchett
Ben, the main advantage is that you can set it to automatically sync the libraries so that a copy of new purchases is on both computers. I'm just using it to copy my whole library to a new computer. - Ross Miller
So is it possible for me and my wife to share music, on each of our computers, bought on different accounts, before and after we have gotten married? - Rasmus Lauridsen
Rasmus: I doubt it. This feature, and all the features in the iTunes/iPod/iPhone ecosystem, only allow one active account. - Mark Trapp
and of files you haven't aquired via itunes? - alphaxion
But you can activate more than one account in Itunes... I have mine + my wife's two accounts authorized. But yeah it's probably going to be another case of having to still do it manually - Rasmus Lauridsen
Alphaxion, it just copies them over like any purchases from iTunes. When you open the home sharing center, there's a view to 'only see songs that are not on this computer'. You just select which songs you want to copy and hit import. - Ross Miller
On a related note, something I've been wondering about recently is the best way to share a library between two Windows user accounts on the same machine. Seems silly to sync them when the files are on the same machine, but I'd like new purchases to appear automatically. Is that possible somehow? - Tony Ruscoe from iPhone
Tony, I think you can do that by changing the 'iTunes Media folder location' to be the same destination. Just choose which /Music/iTunes you want to use and set them both to that one. You can change the location from the Advanced tab in Preferences. - Ross Miller
Thanks. I think I'll have to try that. I did wonder about doing that but wasn't sure whether that would just copy the files to the same folder, leaving the libraries out of sync though. - Tony Ruscoe from fftogo

Why I Use Amazon Affiliate Links When Reviewing Items - http://www.chrisbrogan.com/why-i-u...
I was impressed, at the time I read the post, that you even labeled the Amazon links with '(amazon affiliate link)'. How much more transparent could you be? - Gary Burge
I'm disturbed by the fact that Chris even has to write this post. There are 87247321743552 items in the Amazon store. Do we really think that Chris is trying to be unauthentic just due to the mere presence of an affiliate link from one of the items in this HUGE online store? Seriously. - Tamar Weinberg
I think CB might have been trolled. - Trent Hamm from iPod
Who cares? that's what we all should say, including Chris.. I mean, I can see why he was annoyed, yet, why should he be annoyed?> wtf has a got to do with whoever it was complained?? Nothing... as for everyone else, we didn't know nor need to... none knew about it until he blogged it here.. I tell it as is on the sidebar on my own blog if anyone complained.. I'd say so what? ;o) - Rob Sellen :o)

Very cool product. Would have been nice if they were clearer about what the product actually is on the home page - had to dig thru to the products page to know that it was a solvent you apply to a surface. Wasn't sure if the product was a solvent/coating or if it was in the marker. I would buy this. - Kamath (नमः)

Sources: Google OS lives (and it's coming to a netbook near you) - Ars Technica
"Two separate sources—one inside the company and one outside it—have confirmed to Ars tonight that Google plans to launch an operating system built in some fashion around its new web browser, Chrome. One source says that the new OS will be launched soon, perhaps as early as tomorrow. Tentatively called "Google Chrome OS," the project appears targeted at netbooks... [A] quick-booting OS built around a single application like Chrome would be a natural fit for a netbook." - Bret Taylor from Bookmarklet
If Google doesn't build this soon, I am going to do it myself at some point. I really, really want an instant-on laptop with low power consumption running Chrome. And I am not the only one. - Bret Taylor
umm... you meant Android, right? :) - Tim Hoeck
Tim: to make Android a great laptop OS, you would need to do a lot of work. Just because it exists doesn't mean it works well for this use case. - Bret Taylor
Wee need the Google OS Now!! - Francisco Espinoza from BuddyFeed
*resists urge to play Simon* - Derrick
waves hands wildy -- me too - I also want simple useful O/S that doesn't have "security hole" crap!, plus instant on, low power consumption (ideal for laptop / netbooks) with Chrome browser Ahhhh - Susan Beebe
Well, if you want that, you want an instant-on os, which are already available. I would prefer a fairly low power, fairly robust environment, not to mention a sharable environment with my mobile device. I'll actually be upset if Google builds "yet another OS". Also, I don't know think it would take a whole lot of work to make (strip) android and make it work based on a browser and maybe... more... - Tim Hoeck
Whatever it is it will need to address media - both consumable (think Netflix) and personal (my photos and my mp3s). Not to mention Google needs to get their head on straight about Android branding. - Hayes Haugen
First reaction is that it is a misstep to separate this from their Android efforts. - Hayes Haugen
Android has to be closer to an OS than Chrome, since it is actually on OS. Chrome does device management etc? An OS does a lot more than execute javascript in processes. - Todd Hoff
I think currently the only OS that doesn't have a security hole is one that is locked in a closet with no network connectivity and no input or output devices. - MiniMage TKDteacher of FF

Does anyone here use Google Notebook? If so, I know that they won't maintain it any longer. But will they delete it completely? Would be nice to know if I should continue to use it or just move along.
I still use it but I don't know what it's future will be. I don't want to move on because Notebook, in addition to being easy & super-useful, has the added convenience of using the same Google logon as gmail, calendar, docs, etc. - Chuck Kahn
Maybe Friendfeed should make a Notebook. - Chuck Kahn
Yeah that's what I like too. That I don't need to log in to another web service, I like to have everything under the same roof. - Patrik Johansson
I loved Google Notebook. AFAIR they announced that they will keep the data and accounts for existing users until a final notice, but won't allow new registrations and won't provide any new updates/bugfixes. I recently moved all my notes to Google Docs using a single document for each notebook with headings to split the content. It works well, but it's not quite as snappy as Notebook. At the end of the day I still have my notes available everywhere so all good. - Ivan Zlatev

lemuel: Yeah I use Evernote occasionally, but I liked the simplicity of GNotebook. Evernote is just so much. - Patrik Johansson

I think they are no longer offering support for it but letting people who have accounts already continue to use them indefinitely: http://googlenotebookblog.blogspot.com/2009... There are lots of alternatives if you're looking for them. - Lindsay
Evernote all the way. I was an avid G Notebook fan and my switch to Evernote has been seemless. Evernote also has a desktop version that syncs with online account and a great iPhone app as well. - David Imielski from iPhone
I basically switched to Zoho. I'd rather use Google Notebook, but Zoho is comparable. - Tanath
I think they've already disappeared the firefox extension, unless you already have it installed. The extension made a big contribution to G notebook's utility. - TomG
I still make heavy use of Google Notebook, mostly at work, running in the Firefox sidebar (so I don't miss the addon too much). Love the clean interface and the convenience cause I'm pretty much always logged into and using my Google account. If they'd delete it without announcement (hope they never will at all) I'd be f****d. Made a backup to Evernote but that site just doesn't feel right. - Hendrik Neumann
You'd probably be better off switching it to Evernote. - Michael Lynton
You should give evernote a try. - Russ Jackson
I find Zoho to be a better replacement for me. It's more like Google Notebook, and Evernote (Edit:) doesn't work on Linux - Tanath
@Tanath - what platform are you using that Evernote doesn't work on? - Lindsay
Google notebook was so good - it was so easy to use and it made everything available on my iPhone for quick access. I really wish google would reconsider - Kelly Johns from iPhone

Keeping kids online safe - http://scobleizer.com/2009...
I agree 100% with your post, Robert. We use OpenDNS in our household and it obviously helps quite a bit but I already had a few "small talks" with my 9 year old daughter about the "bad stuff" on the internet. No talk can fully prepare a child for what they may see or experience out there but it can certainly help with having your kid make the right choice when faced with such a situation. - Radek Papiez
I am glad that the movement is swinging away from just only trying to prevent our children from experiencing the dark side of the internet. We need to place reasonable safeguards as well as opening the lines of communication between parents and children. I work in a school and see every day how hard many parents find it to have uncomfortable discussions with their teenagers. I would love to see a resource that helps encourage and facilitate a positive and open communication between parents and their kids. - Phillip Miller
Magid's been talking about Interney safety education - both on the mobile and fixed web - over prevention for years. Curious to see what you think of his take on things? - Julie Matic
this is where Glubble will help you. We provide parents the tools to support their children discover the web and social networking. Instead of locking children or the computer down, or trying to be the experts for parents, we let parents take the responsibility and build a safe and fun web for their children. This way parents can teach their children to be good citizens in the online... more... - Alexander van Elsas
Kids are part of the problem themselves. At my school lots of trouble begins online at social media sites and can even end in fighting. Othertimes it's the other way round. A child is bullied at school and then bullied online too. - Donald Townsend from twhirl
Our kids are only allowed to use the computer in the public areas of our house (ie. not their rooms). I am not so naive to think this is the only solution, so I have had discussions with my older kids (11 & 8) about appropriate use, sites, etc. As far as them posting information online, I told them to think about this: If you wouldn't stand up in the middle of your school lunch room and share the same information with everyone, it's probably not a good idea to put it online. - Dave Gambrill
Dave, that's a good criteria. I'd extend it to say... If you wouldn't stand up in the middle of your school lunch room and share the same information with everyone and allow it to be posted on the school wall forever, it's probably not a good idea to put it online. - LogEx
Avynn's computer is in a common room, right where I can see him from my office. We have no censorship of any kind on his computer. So far the worst thing he watches is machinima based around Half Life 2 and sometimes Monty Python. He's 12 now, so we'll probably need to have a talk about porn sometime before too long. He doesn't have any friends yet who even know what email or IM is. That'll change in Middle School. - Internet's Tad
Alexander, I'll have to test that out in anticipation. I haven't given up waiting on my little miracles. :) Nice to be prepared though. Thanks for sharing! - Melanie Reed
@Tad - Watching Monty Python already, eh? Sounds like your kid'll be okay. :) - Steve Lynch from twhirl
I agree that education is the best form of prevention -- kids are smart, make sure they know how you feel (and why). - Steve Lynch from twhirl
Locking computers and the web down too much gives kids a reason to want to break free. It is so much better to give them a cool experience and teach them about their behavior on the web at the same time. My ultimate goal is for a child to be able to say that his Internet is way more cooler than mom's or dad's Internet. And parents need to be educated and get involved as well. They can't just rely on tools but should be actively involved. They want to, but often do not know how - Alexander van Elsas
As much as you try, you cannot "protect" your kids online, except by educating them. The weakest links are their friends. I've seen first hand how friends will introduce new people into a network that no one in the existing network knows. Kids don't realize that these new people are "strangers" because they assume "a friend of a friend" is safe. That's one thing I've had to teach my kids -- that friends of friends are strangers unless you know them in the "real world." - Dominic Jones
And the cc: line in emails is the most common way strangers get into your kids' networks. - Dominic Jones
Sorry to hog this, but if I can help one person it's worth it. Teach your kids never to share their passwords with their friends. They often do this for things like neopets and webkinz when they're going to be offline for a while and want a friend to take care of their "pets" or keep in good standing on Club Penguin or something. Their passwords often are the same for a variety of sites, including web mail. - Dominic Jones
I grew up before the age of social media and there was lots of bullying, malicious gossip and harassment, not to mention the creepy guy who stood on the corner in a raincoat. (of course, bringing guns to school wasn't unusual then, you just had to keep them on the gun rack) The Web is just the latest tool for bullies and pervs. - Robert Hafer
@ Robert Hafer Today, the creepy guy in a raincoat is a sweet-looking 10-year-old girl who is popular with everyone and has all the latest gadgets but absent parents. - Dominic Jones
OpenDNS for us. It's router based and my kids and wife love me for it. - Adam
Kurt, you remind me of that NYC mom who let her 9 year old ride the subway alone - Adam
Robert Scoble
There's a reason I follow 100,000 on Twitter and 25,000 on friendfeed: I get to see patterns no one else is seeing. Here's some:
I saw the Chinese earthquake while it was happening. 45 minutes before CNN. - Robert Scoble
I see that Bing is gaining steam today. - Robert Scoble
I saw that people were frustrated on Saturday with CNN. - Robert Scoble
The Matrix? - Matthew DeVries
Matthew: in a way, yes. - Robert Scoble
I see new software, services, ideas before most other people. - Robert Scoble
How do you deal with the noise? - Kevin Lim
How do you filter out all the noise? I find myself constantly unfollowing people to make Twitter more relevant. - Michelle
I've noticed this effect in just following 40 or 50 more people on Twitter. - Bill Kinney
And I get to see how they react to news, like Opera's new browser this morning. - Robert Scoble
The Robert Scoble version of "Google Earth" - Pete Blackshaw
Big Brother style - Richard Lai
So that's like "Scoble trends" :) Like Twitter trends, but for emerging events. - Kirill Petrovsky
Jinx. - Michelle
Michelle: noise is like the lawn. It lets you see the flowers. - Robert Scoble
So effectively you start a topic on Twitter, and then use friendfeed as a chat room? - Richard Lai
i follow almost 60,000 on twitter now and love it. totally agree scoble. - Jason Pollock
Hoping for some improvements to Tweetdeck groups - just not enough yet - Kirsten Hamstra
yeah but how do you SEE the patterns, you cannot read them all do you? - Hans Mestrum
You should be talking about all the spammers on Twitter because that is the trend - paul mooney
Robert is our filter, we follow robert who sees the patterns and reports it back. - Ray Slakinski
Here's a hint: I don't always follow 125,000 people. In friendfeed I have lists of only 150 people. THEY HAVE VERY LITTLE NOISE. - Robert Scoble
He has a socket in the back of his head ;-) - Richard H
Also, in friendfeed I can remove noise by displaying only items that have gotten a like. Like this: http://friendfeed.com/search... - Robert Scoble
Thank goodness we have you, Robert, to do that, so we don't have to. - Jason Mayoff
make sense following "likes" - Hans Mestrum
paul: spammers don't bother me. They add about as much value as people who tell me they had a jelly sandwich for lunch. - Robert Scoble
Jeff Pulver Followers every p0rn site and spammer who Follows him, check his Following list - paul mooney
paul: here's a little trick: I do most of my following in friendfeed. Why? Better friend management. - Robert Scoble
I also have issues bc what I have to follow for work is very different from what I want to follow, but that is another issue. - Michelle
Bill: actually you only need to follow a few people to get a pretty good look at the good stuff. Why? If something is good everyone talks about it. - Robert Scoble
Twitter has gone the way of email, that's why Twitter Search doesn't work - the system is overwellemed! - paul mooney
Michelle - same issue here! work vs. professional following and juggling multiple accts - Kirsten Hamstra
paul: it still works for me. I just skip over the spam. My mind likes seeing spam and noise. It helps me see the news. - Robert Scoble
For the rest of us - just friend Scoble -- you might hear about stuff delayed 5 minutes or so. - Brian Sullivan
Where do I get one of these neat sockets in the back of my head, I get dizzy just trying to follow 2K people. - dabitch
All the Twitter marketers are auto-Following the spammers, it's a perfect storm - paul mooney
paul: in email I don't care about the spam either. I can always scan a page of spam and find my boss' emails for some reason. - Robert Scoble
reminds me of roy - I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the darkness at Tan Hauser Gate. - mike "glemak" dunn
Brian: that is true. My like feed at http://www.friendfeed.com/scoblei... is pretty good. - Robert Scoble
That's why people who don't follow others on Twitter are kinda of missing the point, aren't they? I love seeing when people are being followed by 30,000 people but following 2. - Curt Mercadante
BTW Robert, props on following the Iran elections. Hopefully this will open our eyes to what has been happening in Egypt, Russia, Pakistan and a host of other countries for decades. If Benezir Bhutto were alive and had been elected like she would have been, we'd live in a different world. - Michelle
so robert - could you be an android ;) - mike "glemak" dunn
Robert: so in a way, if you follows all that people, we actually needs to follow only one person, which is you. here's why: it is most likely that you'll post about the major stuff that you read about in your friends stream - which make you a better filter than any other service around :) (I'm following lots of people too because I simply like to find and read about new and exciting things) - Orli Yakuel
I totally agree with you Robert. It's like holding your hand into a jet of water and drinking from time to time. - nik
you need to have the spirit of sharing good stuffs to others, or the good only reaches you but does not spread out. - K.D.
I cannot get people to join FriendFeed. I even did a video showing them how great it is. I cannot seem to follow that many more on Twitter than 200 and keep up with them. I tried Tweetdeck, but it just used too much RAM for me. - Hummie
The REAL trick here is that you have a natural gift for scanning with your eyes. I would follow many more people if I could scan (and absorb) information as quickly as you do. Since I don't, I follow you. You are among my first line of defense. - Bettina Tizzy
All these fortune cookie Tweets are the work of spammers, sooner or later comes the link to the get-rich-quick site - paul mooney
Robert you are awesome! ★ - weirdchina
@scobleizer I want to see the matrix also... still several K from where you are. - Robert Freeze
Robert, do you read http://friendfeed.com/public also? - bnoise
i follow more on ff - junrxu
Sounds a little like Joey Osmond - Robert I see patterns Scoble? Definitely agree though - there is useful information that can be pulled from the right people's twitter/friendfeed that gives trends developing real time, as long as sea changes over longer periods - Tom Tubbs
omg that is impossible to read - bnoise from IM
holy shit robert... i just had my mind blown watching your live friendfeed. this whole time i've been trying to control the chaos... keep people organized into neat piles. wow... wowow - Eric Nakagawa
You are so right! - Thomas Chai
@Hummie: I had the same problem with TweetDeck. Try SeesmicDesktop, it has similar functionality but less RAM-greedy - Ashalynd
Robert do you have a link to the video you did showing 'how' you manage all this information flow? I would enjoy watching it again. - Matt Perry
here's another interesting search which will show all scoble's friends' items that have at least 1 like: http://friendfeed.com/search... only wish this were realtime - Mike Chelen
Robert - cool post, excellent comments - same exact reason I embraced FF in early days and stayed here!! Love it - Susan Beebe
Robert since I have been following you I have done a complete 180 on how I felt about social networking before. I mean the media is fast but social networking works at the speed of thought. Now if I could only figure out how to interact behind the Army & Airforce firewall... I felt lost today at work... LOL - Nathan McClain
Matt, I think that video is this one: HOw I Read Tweets: http://www.kyte.tv/scoblei... - Robert Scoble
Orli the problem with only following me is that I need to sleep once in a while and I also might not follow people you care about. For instance, if you are into celebrities and not technology I totally wouldn't be good for you to follow. - Robert Scoble
we know what I care about and I'm glad that I'm following you! but I got the point, and I agree of course. I was just kidding I guess.. - Orli Yakuel
Great video. Watching it again now... - Matt Perry
Yeah some wild connections are made by watching a lot more than a few friends. Wonder why most people don't "get" that? Researchers should follow a ton of people and sources. - Jack Humphrey
Jack: actually, people should do BOTH follow a ton of people and sources as well as follow just a very select group of people. I wish I could share my groups (er, lists of friends) with you all. THEY are going to be the secret to filtering in the future. - Robert Scoble
I'm lazy. I use your feed as my pre-filtered source of good/interesting general information. Thanks for doing a lot of the hard work for us (or at least me). - John Meagher
Robert I think you are 100% correct, but it touches on what people should have already been doing, and that's getting as much information as they can from as many sources as they can and putting the facts together for themselves. I think traditional media's days of fact-less reporting are thankfully numbered. This is truly Fair and Balanced!!! - Nathan McClain
Robert: People still won't get it. Seeing patterns is a talent or a skill. You can aid it, however, by showing or demonstrating how you filter for patterns. How do you scan messages and discern a pattern? How do you focus on a few without missing the patterns of the many? Might make a good presentation/blog. You probably already did it, right? - Alan Eggleston
I don't think it requires following 125,000 people to be aware of the same trends. - stretta
stretta: it does not, but I get to see small things that many people don't. - Robert Scoble
Robert - and I appreciate those "small things" :) --- they look like startups! and new bright shiny tech toys! - Susan Beebe
imagine an AI system that can analyze all that data for you and generate illuminating reports... - Matt Jaunich
Matt: I can and lots of geeks are working on building just that. - Robert Scoble
Thanks for the post. I immediately added the "like" search to my saved searches. - Sean Powell
I follow 60,000 and I see a white light at the end of a tunnel. It's getting closer... - Rick
You must do this by o s m o s i s....no other way? Intuition and speeed reading. - Ziona Etzion
Yeah. Robert, I don't read your stuff and I don't know if you're going to read this. But regardless, I know you're well famed and this is the first thing I skimmed across of yours that would indicate that it's deserved. I follow options in the same way., eg almost literally. I have TD StrategyDesk open right now, ThinkOrSwim, Power E*Trade Pro, OptionsXPress, and the regular TD Ameritrade website open as well. Doing this allows me to view and be ware of data and turning points in many views and levels - Matt Kaufman
Robert: If you could follow all 100,000+ people from Twitter in real time within friendfeed would you? - Garin Kilpatrick
Twitter is a helpful automatized hammer for the main engine, which is friendfeed ; - ewing2001akaNicomedy2010
I don't see why you couldn't just save a search on everybody's posts with likes on FF though and still follow only those you actually read daily + any protected accts? Even build smarter searches than that. You increase the number of people following you by lots more your way of course. - Thomas Bøhm from BuddyFeed
Sorry. The trend watching and analytical part would be the same, wouldn´t it, except that I now see that the saved searches don´t update in realtime. Yet. - Thomas Bøhm from BuddyFeed
That's why realtime filters would be awesome. All the relevant stuff, without refreshing. - bnoise from IM
No doubt... - Thor
Nice post :-) Two questions though: - Patrick Mackaaij
1. What sets apart the 100,000 people you "follow" to glance at once in a while from the everyone feed? - Patrick Mackaaij
2. (a Friendfeed question): Do you still read this since I posted this comment a few hours after the initial conversation. - Patrick Mackaaij
How did you find so many people to follow? How does an average user find so many to follow? - Bas
Patrick: I was on stage and couldn't be on friendfeed. - Robert Scoble
Patrick: the people I follow are usually much more tech interested and demonstrate early adopted behavior than the larger public audience. - Robert Scoble
Never mind all this. How's Opera? Got a link this morning and thought I might try it (what a surprise, me trying something). - Francine Hardaway
This is how I tell other people about Robert: http://www.victusspiritus.com/2009... and it's how I'm slowly patterning web learning (when I have time to interact and learn) - Mark Essel
Scoble Earth(TM), Pete Blackshaw? ;) - Tyson Key
Robert: Is this a Mandelbrot pattern? The chaos has a look, a feel and a taste, as in the jet of water analogy. You're the freakin' hydrologist with the dousing rod. - Phil Boiarski
Robert: I was not expecting a real time response but was wondering how you keep track of all conversations you engaged with on FF. How can you see where comments are added? - Patrick Mackaaij
I'm with Robert, just not with such a big of a scale. My point: I am noise and you are noise. Let's not forget there's a baby in that bathwater before one takes a blanket anti social network view of social networking! - Mike Lewis
Robert, you are a living, breathing supernode, and I thank you for it :-) (Supernodes: http://news.zdnet.com/2100-95...) - Andy Bold
makes sense 2 me - Ron Hagenhoff
OMG Robert I agree 100% BEFORE Twitter screwed with the @replies censoring us from seeing all that people tweeted... I could scroll through my home page and get the pulse of the world on Twitter! A beautiful site! Comparatively now: Twitter is silent. - Arleen Anderson
Robert, I'm having a jelly sandwich for lunch tomorrow. ;-) - Ken Stewart | ChangeForge
All major television networks/news outlets should hire Scoble and heed this advice based on this weekends events in Iran. They need to learn how to listen, filter and understand how social media can deliver real-time information around the world. - E-Advocate Network
böring - yazarcizer
What tools are you using to keep track of the all that flows past? - Inbox2 Team
Yeah, Robert is an Androïd! Each time I'm gotta 'like' 1 of his entries, comment, or visit links, I ask myself if I'm doing this because he is Scoble! Of course not: it's just because he's always pointing on valuable infos. And this is good for IT stuffs, for early adopters, for business. - Thierry R. Andriamirado
So, Scoble proves that the best search & filter engine is Human. (Nah.. I'm not a 'groupie', never will ;-)) - Thierry R. Andriamirado
Curt, pple who don't follow others and hope to be followed & heard are obviously wrong. Social Media is not "Ego Media" ;) - Thierry R. Andriamirado
Patrick, IMO Robert uses FriendFeed's search to find infos, & FF's email features to keep track of conversations & updates - Thierry R. Andriamirado
or maybe you also miss some important ones because of the noise: like the patterns known by 99% of the users that have less than 1000 followers? does that make sense? - Ouriel Ohayon
isn't that a little too much? do you even have time for anything else? Is it worth knowing about an earthquake some 30-40 minutes earlier than most people than spending some time with your real life friends? - stefan
Stefan, the point is: if you want to spend as much time as possible with your real life friends, you have to be as efficient as possible during the time you spend in front of the computer. The more information you drink in a short time, the faster you can identify patterns. - Brome
Best answer I've heard for why I'm also ok with following and listening to a ton of people on various platforms: "noise is like the lawn. It lets you see the flowers. - Robert Scoble" - Leslie Poston
Wow, that's a clever use of the platforms! - gareth【ツ】
We need information so we can decide while staying in touch with reality. -> Filtering skills, Good Human filter, Good filter tool (FriendFeed). - Thierry R. Andriamirado from email
Thierry: thanks I was looking for that indeed! Have changed my settings to see how e-mail works out there but I thought maybe there would be an easier way... - Patrick Mackaaij
hey it was great to finally personally meeting you and hung out at the diner ; my weblog about the evening now at http://ff.im/45HR3 plus infos about WE LIVE IN PUBLIC premiering now in L.A. and my new video "PERU" @ http://www.youtube.com/watch... ; all the best for the conference today and building43 ; - ewing2001akaNicomedy2010
Another FF question: I was under the assumption FF would merge duplicate imports so that conversations like these would remain in one place. If I do a search on a tending topic of today this does not seem to be the case: http://friendfeed.com/search... - Patrick Mackaaij
Patrick, the imports may be duplicate URLs or pictures or whatever, but the conversation around them could be different. I see this as a good thing, and it show me two things. (1) it is an intersection of the different groups and types of people that I subscribe to. (2) it can be different nationalities in different timezones. Ie, of a more global interest. Bothe are good pieces of data for me. - Andy Bold from email
@Brom, yes. but there is only so much information one can absorb at a time. 100.000 twitters and 25 FFs? Even half of it is too much for a normal person to take in that fast. Robert MUST be a robot O_O - stefan
@Andy: I'd rather not see any duplicate URL's and have the conversation take place in one thread. Google Translate can solve the language problem. But my question at the moment was what the current status is. I see it's already discussed here: http://friendfeed.com/susanbe... - Patrick Mackaaij
Patrick, I see what you mean now. Nice link - thanks! - Andy Bold from email
how do I follow thousands of people without clicking follow over and over - Kyle Weller
Kyle: Use friendfeed and click "subscribe" - Garin Kilpatrick
Kyle: its still required to click subscribe for each user, but those clicks are well spent, and FF also will show posts from friends-of-friends. another good option is to join some groups for subjects that interest you - Mike Chelen

It could be they legitimately hadn't heard of this, and figured it sounded good. - Paul Holmes
I'm sure somebody at FriendFeed will fill out the form at http://www.facebook.com/copyrig... and /friendfeed will point to the FF<->FB app within a week. - Ken Sheppardson

This is funny - http://www.facebook.com/mysapce - oops, you got a typo buddy. - Paul Holmes

@polou - I know, it's still kind of funny - Paul Holmes
I tried 2 put a submission 2 my biz name, but the biz number reg was not defined clearly. We have IDs with names and since laws are different in Canada and elsewhere then US. - polou/indigo_bow
Ben: Agreed. Mine isn't as common but I tried for my first name and it was gone. Good thing I use my full name everywhere. Continuity. :) - Sheryl
How hard could it have been to prevent creation of trademarked names, without verification from the trademark holder? Easier than it's going to be to straighten out the mess. It's got to be part of the planned hype, with built-in controversy, and ongoing coverage. - Gary Etie
trademarked is still available. - Robert Scoble
I'm Zuckerberg, and I'm thinking, how do I force a relationship between celebrities and businesses and FB? Let the world register their trademarked names! Yea, that's the ticket! - Gary Etie

bigpoppa is, unfortunately, not available. - Jeremy Toeman
nor is "pooper" - Jeremy Toeman
So, it has been established, both "."s and "-"s (dots and dashes?) are ignored at Facebook. At Gmail, ".", dots are ignored, "-", dashes are not. At both FB and Gmail, g.a.r.y.e.t.i.e = garyetie = gary.etie. but ≠ g-a-r-y-e-t-i-e, or gary-etie, for Gmail. - Gary Etie
I just decided to continue in my 12 year old mistake and take iphigenie again. - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
It would be getting harder to register firstname.lastname by now (Unless you have a more unique name). After the main one is taken you get reverse name taken lastname.firstname then they start spilling out to using initials which multiplies the amount of people that could also use it. All variations seem to be taken for my name now. - Project Glow Guy
pornstar! oh, taken. - Jeremy Toeman
@Jeremy - no, all *porn* names are restricted - already tried a bunch. - Paul Holmes

New iPhones: $199 for 16GB, $299 for 32GB 3GS - http://live.gizmodo.com/
New iPhones: $199 for 16GB, $299 for 32GB 3GS
June 19th. *edit: "This is going around on Twitter: Existing AT&T customers who want to upgrade ...the price with a new two-year agreement is $499 (8GB), $599 (16GB), or $699 (32GB). - Kenley Neufeld" - Mona Nomura
$99 is a kick in the teeth to all the other smartphones out there. - Andrew C
2 days after the 3.0 OS. should've made them same day. - John Wang
I'll probably DL 3.0 and if it meets expectations, I'll buy the new 3G. - Mona Nomura from IM
i'm liking live.gdgt.com better. : ) - John Wang
OFCOURSE THEY'LL CHARGE ~600$ IN INDIA! THE WORLD IS THE US! BOW! #fml - Yuvi
i'm not sure. i haven't seen anything in the hardware that makes me want a new G(S) one. the 3G with 3.0 seems fine. - John Wang
I'm trying to figure out if the processor is upgraded - it's implied but not confirmed. - Mona Nomura
Wait, what? You'll buy the new 3G? What happened to all the Pre love? - ronin
the 8gb is a little different hardware than the 16gb and 32gb - Alfredo
I still want a Pre but I'm waiting for 2.0. It's still premature I think. - Mona Nomura from IM
This is the part where I jizz in my pants. - tinypants - Hagitha of FF
Cuz of the price? - Mona Nomura
To add, I have the 8gig and it's fine. I don't know why people need so much storage. - Mona Nomura from IM
Right on, Apple invented their own mobile tech acronym... wtf is 3GS? Sounds like a car model.Nice move by the APPL though. Get the ape shit fans to pitch their $400 phones for the new $300 upgraded uber awesome models by significantly dropping the price of the 3G iPhone (which should have been their Rev 1, imo)... mmmm marketing ftw - Enrique Gutierrez
Want one. They talked about video in the hardware section, not the software section - is the new OS going to support video on the 3G, or only on the 3GS? - Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
I want a Pre too, so I could laugh at it and then put on a shelf or sth - Dobromir Hadzhiev
@Mona: Cuz I'm finally gonna get me an iPhone and it's going to rock the casbah AND it's not going to break the bank either. :) - tinypants - Hagitha of FF
i have the 16gb 3G. I haven't used up anywhere close to 3gb.... sigh. - John Wang
And what is the price for UPGRADERS? - Kenley Neufeld
@Kenley, they didn't say. looks like you'll have to eat the early termination cost. - John Wang
Amanda - it's the service that will kill you, it's so expensive and a mega FAIL. I'd wait until the iPhone is available elsewhere. Enrique dude, lol. MMS *is* available, yo. And Jandy - video is only for the new ones. - Mona Nomura from IM
Apple Store is back up. http://store.apple.com/us... - John Wang
so faster, with video, better camera, better battery - all that worth ditching a 3G and paying another $199? not sure yet... - Nathan Chase
Guided Tour of iPhone 3G[S] http://www.apple.com/iphone... - John Wang
I am seriously thinking of buying the 32GB Black 3GS iPhone :) I want Video!! - Susan Beebe
i can't decide if i should get the iphone or a netbook - Alfredo
Unless I get confirmation the processor is upgraded, I'm not even considering it... - Mona Nomura
where is the pre's specs? - Alfredo
The processor is an upgrade...there is your confirmation. - Mathew™ one of a kind
@Mona i would think upgrading cost regarding early termination fee, would also be a deciding factor. Apple's Tech Specs pages don't mention anything about the processor speed. - John Wang
Man, I'm excited. All the new OS stuff and the new hardware features. I'm happy. :) - Mathew™ one of a kind
They never do that for iPhone!! - Praveen Vasudev
This is going around on Twitter: Existing AT&T customers who want to upgrade ...the price with a new two-year agreement is $499 (8GB), $599 (16GB), or $699 (32GB). - Kenley Neufeld
Oh, that stings hard. - Christopher Harley
I'm not sure if there is much that they're adding that would make me want to upgrade my 3G for...but I <3 the GS name. Reminds me of my Apple IIGS ^__^ - Tamara
@Mona yea - I missed that. heh - I still hate this f**king device. - Enrique Gutierrez
@Kenley ouch. That's a FAIL. - John Wang
Thanks Kenley! Enrique - now you're just being a hater ;) - Mona Nomura
Guys, also consider that even at the new $99 price point, you will pay something like $400 less over the life of the phone with a Pre on Sprint (with Everything plans). Don't want to rain on parades, so please continue to geek out. - Chieze Okoye
@Mona if its one thing I'm known for is loathing APPL - the iPhone is a slick device, I'll personally hold out for the more betterer N97 and win all the base for they belong to me. - Enrique Gutierrez
I'm ordering my upgrade right now. I'm an existing AT&T customer and my contract is up this week. The pricing I'm being given is the pricing quoted at WWDC. $299 for 32, $199 for 16, $99 for 8. - tinypants - Hagitha of FF
Kind of weird. I upgrade to 3G from the original and paid the same prices as new contracts. Just had to reup another two years. Have vague memory of similarly high prices but didn't end up paying. - Kenley Neufeld
hey, can anyone tell me this - is the iPhone plan different than AT&T's other phone/data plans? - holly
@holly - nope. you have to ask for the plan by name specifically when talking to AT&T if you don't have an iPhone. They can't deny you service based on the product you own if it is compatible. - Enrique Gutierrez
all this will make sense when bandwidth throttling and when net neutrality is a reality.. right now.. you pay much more for bandwidth then the device itself ! - Peter Dawson
I'm seeing this instead: " You'll have to pay a bit more if you're mid-contract, though -- $299 for the 3G and $399/$499 for the 3G S." - John Wang
AT&T = obstacle for a larger iPhone adoption - Jorge Escobar
Enrique - thanks. was just asking because I already have the unlimited data/txt plan with AT&T, and people keep saying how expensive it is. guess for me it won't be :) - holly
Yeah I'm seeing the same as John Wang. Plus an $18 "upgrade fee." I don't remember this BS when upgrading from the original iPhone to the 3G. =p - ronin
Holly - I HIGHLY doubt they'll let you keep your grandfathered plan with the iPhone. I'd call customer service and ask to make sure. @Ronin - I'm still waiting for the processor confirmation. - Mona Nomura
Mona, I'm not sure this is a grandfathered plan - looking closer at the website, I think it's the same as what i am using for my Centro. ie. I'm already paying an arm and a leg. lol :) - holly
It's simple really. This is how carriers make there money. They subsidize the phone and in return you sign a 2 year contract. You just don't get to upgrade to another phone at the subsidized price if your still in contract for the first subsidized phone. - Kevin Whalen from email
I think the "going around on twitter" is misquoted - from the Apple web site: "(2) Requires new two-year AT&T wireless service contract, sold separately to qualified customers; credit check required; must be 18 or older. For non-qualified customers, including existing AT&T customers who want to upgrade from another phone or replace an iPhone 3G, the price with a new two-year agreement is $499 (8GB), $599 (16GB), or $699 (32GB). Visit www.wireless.att.com for eligibility information." - Adam Turetzky
@Adam, yea, the key in that statement is "or replace an iPhone 3G" which is making people uneasy. - John Wang
So those prices on Apple's web site are for first gen iPhone owners who if they bought on launch day (June 29th 2007) will be coming out of contract and eligible for upgrade. - Adam Turetzky
Adam: when I read the pasted statement, it DOES read like upgrading customers will need to pay the higher price. - Kenley Neufeld
I don't know, I upgraded from original to 3G without penalty; seems I should be able to do the same thing again. - Kenley Neufeld
@John so yes, the low prices are for 1st gen iPhone owners coming out of contract. Everyone else has to pay non-upgrade prices. - Adam Turetzky
Actually, 1st gen iPhone's were not subsidized, which allowed many to qualify for the subsidized 3G iPhone last summer. - Kevin Whalen from email
@Adam, that's my understanding as well. my guess, is they would also have to pony up a massive early termination fee on their current contract as well. - John Wang
@Kenley you have to wait until you're out of contract. If you bought an iPhone 3G on launch day (July 11th 2008) you're stuck with that phone until July 11th 2010. - Adam Turetzky
Not this time Kenley. Gotta pay $200 more if you're an existing AT&T user. - ronin
@Adam, what ronin and I are seeing, are the same details of what AT&T and Apple did for whent he 3G came out. AT&T charged a $18 "upgrade" fee, allowed the subsidized iPhone 3G price for the iPhone customer and did not charge early termination. That was then, this is now. - John Wang
I'm an existing AT&T customer with a Nokia flip phone, and I'm coming out of contract right now (apparently I came out of contract 2 days ago. Thought it was later this week). I'm being given the price of $199 for the 16gb plus an $18 upgrade fee. So the special pricing isn't just for upgrading an existing iPhone. - tinypants - Hagitha of FF
Amanda: If you are out of contract, then you can do anything you want and get a new subsidized phone. - Kenley Neufeld
@Amanda, correct. the issue is with people who are still "in contract." since you are out of contract, it doesn't matter. - John Wang
The only reason original iPhone owners qualified last summer for the subsidized 3G prices, is because the original iPhone was not subsidized. - Kevin Whalen from email
Does it have A2DP? - James Myatt
@James I believe 3.0 OS is adding that. Not the hardware upgrade from 3G to 3G[S] - John Wang
3.0 is adding A2DP but there are some wonky Apple restrictions for capabilities (I believe) - Mona Nomura
I believe most restrictions are coming from AT&T's side rather than Apple itself. - Nir Ben Yona
Nir - I agree. MMS restrictions are from AT&T side, too. - Mona Nomura
AT&T website jut told me I can upgrade from first gen iPhone to a refurb 8gb 3G for $79.00, no listing for 3GS - Robert Hafer
@Robert try going through Apple, they give you slightly better info http://www.apple.com/iphone... - John Wang

Marissa just announced Google Search Options. Click on "Show Options" to see the new panel of searching options.
I'm not seeing it - Roberto Bonini
Any idea when this will be rolled out for .ca? - Andrew Smith
Matt, do you have an image available for what we are to look for? I don't see a "show options" - LPH™ and his dog P™
ditto - Sumit Chachra
I think you might have to be logged in. This query comes up with "The option you have selected is currently unavailable." unless logged in. http://www.google.com/search... - Andrew Smith
Sure, it's in the first picture on this post above the search results: http://www.dullest.com/blog... It might take a few hours to deploy everywhere. - Matt Cutts
It's awesome and fantastic. Looking forward to more features being added in the options as well. - Charbax
When is Google going to buy friendfeed, put it at feeds.google.com and provide "Real-time" in the search options? - Charbax
Nice. Not sure I get the wonderwheel. - Laura Norvig
I love the options, but it seems like it keeps appearing and disappearing for different search sessions. Incidentally, my search settings keep getting reset to 10 results between search sessions- even if I'm still logged in. The new options only show for me when I set results to 100 and have English set. - david pavlicko
@Charbax, since most of the founders of friendfeed recently left google, I don't think they will be selling to google anytime soon. - Robert Felty
@Robert Felty. I would think that this would be an even better reason for Google to buy them back. My guess is that they probably have a behind the scenes agreement with Google that they can have first purchasing rights. Could be regarded as a 20% time project that needed to branch out and find external investors before it being workable. Nothing wrong with saying something like "Sorry" or "You would be welcome back". - Charbax
david, the binary or data push to add "Show options..." can sometimes take a little bit of time to percolate out to all of our data centers. - Matt Cutts
Mitchell Tsai
Top 51 FriendFeed Likeaholics - You've helped make my FriendFeed experience lots of wonderful... Thanks for your cool links! :-) WARNING: Subscribing can be hazardous to your feed...and bring WAY too many cool articles/pictures/links...
Robert Patton - "RAPatton" (49,307) http://friendfeed.com/pattonr... Discussion http://friendfeed.com/pattonr... - Mitchell Tsai
I guess I'm just more stingy with my likes - only 1422 from me - Nathan Chase
Sorry, but my one pet peeve about FriendFeed are those who Like EVERYTHING. It tremendously devalues the feature when these Like-happy FFholics start OCD'n with their trigger finger. - Brad Williamson
I should hit 10,000 in the next couple of weeks. - Mathew™ one of a kind
Whoa. I'm at like 12K. And I didn't really start getting into FF until September of '08. - Derrick
Brad: From my experience, these heavy likers all have really good taste. If you surf 20,000-100,000 entries/day, you still have to be pretty damn selective to choose 400 to like. There's a huge amount of dedication (or addiction) to look at so much stuff... Take a look at their discussion feeds before you pass judgement. :-) Surfing these people's discussions is a great way to waste (...use) time. - Mitchell Tsai
Some people aren't looking at anything except the link that says Like - Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
Sorry Mitchell, but there's just no way to absorb anywhere near 20-100k pieces of content in a single day. Honestly, it's probably impossible to even adequately peruse a thousand in one day. - Brad Williamson
Brad: Watch the live feed on Friend for just an hour. How many items do you think you're seeing in an hour? Some studies show that our brains can visually recognize pictures in 1/3 of a sec (and get about 1000 words of information). Many of the people on this list are on FriendFeed 4-12+ hrs/day. They might be liking only one item every few minutes, and still have 100-400 likes/day. FriendFeed's got quite a few people with AMAZING taste. It's a joy to have so many people helping me filter the news! - Mitchell Tsai
Those likes aren't from one full day, Brad. That's over the lifetime of their FF account. - FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
glad to see you spreading the love, Mitchell :) - mjc
The funniest part of this thread as that none of the people listed are the ones I consider likeaholics - Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
Rah, not even RAPatton and edythe? - Akiva Moskovitz
Oh, sorry. Didn't see edythe. Can't say I noticed RAP, but maybe he just doesn't Like my stuff :) (or doesn't like as fast) - Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
LOL Rasheen! "Quality" likeaholics. P.S. Brad, in the "old days" the speed limit on likes was ~60/day. I hit it quite a bit in my like-a-holic days. It was raised for people like Polly Roberts and Robert Patton who brought so many non-tech articles to my feeds before I started following 700+ people and reading the Everyone feed (Thanks to Robert Scoble who first brought me here...) - Mitchell Tsai
Oh, and Mitchell, I'm not sure everyone would appreciate their full, real names posted here for all to see. - Akiva Moskovitz
@Tina I know, I know. I was afraid you might think that. I'm talking about those who knock out about 5k a week. That's nowhere near the degree I believe many of you might think I'm hinting at. - Brad Williamson
@Rasheen That's what I'm thinking, too ;-) - Brad Williamson
Akiva: Simply click on people's Facebook icons & you'll see their names... If there's no easily-found name linked to FriendFeed, I'm not posting it. (Kind of confusing "edythe" is "furry" is Polly Roberts. And so many Farzads...) - Mitchell Tsai
I think the Likeaholics I'm thinking of are new to FF and maybe trying to catch up - Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
Mitchell, ah, gotcha. As you were, then. - Akiva Moskovitz
Good point though Akiva. If anyone wants me to blank their name from this list, just tag this entry, and I'll edit your name (and delete your entry)... - Mitchell Tsai
iamghostblogger does not agree: http://friendfeed.com/e... - edythe
Welcome to FriendFeed, Buth dangoi! - Mitchell Tsai
wow I almost feel good that this is a list I didn't make it on :) - Steven Hodson
It is interesting but I am following every single person on this list already. Now I know why there's so much good stuff coming at me! - Robert Scoble
Robert: For the first time, I ran Felix's FriendZone, and I was subscribed to everyone on the Top 100 already! http://ff.deasil.com/friendz... - Mitchell Tsai
Cool band name: "So many Farzads" - Oldengrey (Jay)
You might as well add me to this list. Because I'm well on my way to getting there. BTW, there is nothing wrong with liking a lot of things. If your worried about things getting buried then use the tools available on Friendfeed to filter things. - Mathew™ one of a kind
Apologies to anyone I left off this list. I thought of this when reading Kol Tresgaskes' “I just hit 15,000 likes on FriendFeed!” post http://friendfeed.com/e... and people were asking about other people with lots of "likes". - Mitchell Tsai
Thanks to Felix for his FriendZone tool. I looked at the 200 people on Mahdi Ebrahimi's FriendZone http://ff.deasil.com/friendz... and my FriendZone http://ff.deasil.com/friendz... to create this list of 50 people. - Mitchell Tsai
You're forgiven Mitchell - Charlie Anzman
LOL Charlie! - Mitchell Tsai
wow, 15,000 - thats persistent! - Peter Efland
6800 and didn't make the list...wow. - Amber, Random Time Lord
Sorry I didn't include you on the list Amber... I was originally just doing 15,000+, but stretched down to 8,500 before I got worn-out. By a strange coincidence, I think (not sure of my count) it's exactly 50 people... People have been quite active. Last time I looked at "like" counts, Polly was the only person over 20,000. It was nice to see new names in the list! - Mitchell Tsai
If everyone here hit up my Comments/Likes stats collection http://friendfeed.com/e... , bye-bye quasi-random sampling :) - Micah Wittman
I was pointing out that even with that many likes... I wasn't in the top 50. And it made me happy. Means lots of good shares and conversation. - Amber, Random Time Lord
:-) Amber, I was worried you felt bad that you weren't on "the list" (many people seem to worry if they are on or not-on any list). There are SO many amazing people here. I started making a short list of people with amazing pictures http://friendfeed.com/e... that aren't on my older lists. - Mitchell Tsai
Great list, thanks for this. Mitchell. :-) - Kol Tregaskes
Like! ;) - Tyson Key
Not in the top 50, but ... Mike Reynods (8,124) http://friendfeed.com/mikerey... - Mike Reynolds
To be fair, a good portion of my likes are songs that appeared in the lastfmfeeds room, so my like totals may be somewhat inflated. (Then again, I created the room, so I guess I should claim the likes and shut up.) - Ontario Emperor
Any statistic is going to be possibly meaningless. Even if one looks at comments instead of likes, those may be skewed from commenting on your own things (e.g. if you share something from Google Reader and add a note). - Ontario Emperor
I guess the takeaway from here is that anyone on the top 50 list, or for that matter anyone on the top 5000 list, is using likes and comments to engage with others. And that's a good thing. - Ontario Emperor
[Update: May 11, 2009] Wow! Morton Fox is at 107,095 likes - Mitchell Tsai
Yes, a like from Morton makes your day - LPH™ and his dog P™
[Update: May 11, 2009] You guys have been so busy here at FriendFeed. Morton Fox has 107,095 likes, Robert Patton 76,251 likes. Polly's 58,458 likes. ....means I have 110,000 items to catch up with (no counting all the commented items). Whew... - Mitchell Tsai
Yup and I've definitely moved up in this list a bit too, hehe. - Alex Scoble
Question: Any way to make lists like these automatically with the new search? (e.g. people with the most comments/likes) I've love to have a way to make topical lists for science, music, movies, etc... (e.g. in simplist form - people with the most comments with "keyword alpha") I made this list by hand... - Mitchell Tsai
Mitchell, perhaps question to pose to the guys in this group: http://friendfeed.com/ffss. As for topical lists I've gone through loads and loads of groups and found my favourites. I've created lists for each of my favourite topics and added relevant groups to each list. Then I've created saved searches for each topic list showing me entries with x likes and x comments. Works pretty well though took a while to set-up. - Kol Tregaskes
Kol: Yeah. But I'm in the position of trying to catch up again on 3 months. It's be nice for some automated tools, or way to share groups. - Mitchell Tsai
Mitchell, 3 months!? Gosh, good luck. ;-) I can barely catch up a missed day. :-) - Kol Tregaskes

Hello friendfeeders from my cell phone. - http://cinch.blogtalkradio.com/roberts...

I used to use the service that let you record audio tweets. I miss that one... - Ontario Emperor
Just signed up for Cinch. - Ontario Emperor
Ok Robert, to play devil's advocate, how is this any different than the original Utterz which I distinctly remember you dissing at SXSW last year? Personally been a fan of audio posts for some time... - Jennifer Van Grove
Jennifer: I don't remember dissing Utterz, but it probably had something to do with the brand name. Or the fact that it was yet another service I had to use. Sometimes I am wrong, though, about new services. Might have been in this case. - Robert Scoble
Two comments (1) I don't think I'm ever going to warm up to this in-line mixed media thing. I'm always irked when reading through blog comments and mixed in among the text is a little thumbnail of a Seesmic video. I can either track down headphones, turn the speakers on, or (more likely) just skip it. Have the same reaction to this in-line cell phone stuff. (2) Bah humbug, and get off my lawn. - Ken Sheppardson
Replying to @kshep again: I totally aggree. (again) maybe it's cuz I just turned 29 tonight & I'm feeling old(er) - Chris Heath
Robert, it was probably in jest but there was definitely a moment when you put down audio posts...something like, "why would I do that, when I can do video?"...I think you were even recording video at the time. :) - Utterz name was very bad, I'll give ya that. - Jennifer Van Grove
@Chris 29??? You're a whippersnapper! - Jeremy Brooks
Awesome Scobez! I'm signing up now. DRUNK FF'ING HERE I COME!! - Internet's Tad
Robert how do you edit the title of the audio file from date and time to a text title. - Shaun Haney
Wow. Thanks Robert. I've been looking for a practical way to use BTR with what I have to work with and this looks like it's perfect. - Brandon Mendelson
I Tweeted my baby's first cries with this - I believe you did, too Robert - Jesse Stay
Except it looks like they've modified and improved it considerably - Jesse Stay
I've used Utterli before and it works fine. The audio quality from this sounds good. - Rodfather
Very cool !!! - Nir Ben Yona
Great for blind people. - Rutger Blom
Now that's cool. It's like a Twitter-sized podcasting tool. - Jeff Harbert
Wow, that opens up the possibilities. Good catch! - Damond Nollan
that is pretty cool. Am just wondering in which situations I would use it.... anyway, its fun, so I'll probably give it a go - Peter Efland
With the Tumblr iPhone app, I can do the same thing (of course it posts to my tumble log as well..) - Phil G
I just realized how old this post is.. haha oh well. - Phil G
This is really good, I'll have to check out Utterz too. By the way (totally off topic, sorry) Robert thanks for pointing out to me that the "Semantalyzr" name needed to change. I didn't realize the importance of a good site name until I talked with you on the phone one day and you mentioned the name needed to change. I'm planning to have the name changed by May 1st to something easier to say, spell and digest overall - John Wright
There's also a service called TwitHear, with which you can do a similar thing in Twitter. The advantage with this is that the flash player appears in FriendFeed automatically. - Abounding Media

Official Gmail Blog: New in Labs: Suggest more recipients
"Have you ever realized you mistakenly left someone important out of an email, or just spent too much time trying to decide who from your long list of contacts to include? Well, some of us on the Gmail team feel your pain, so we wrote a new Gmail Labs feature called "Suggest more recipients."" - Keith Coleman from Bookmarklet
Wow, that was one of the more 'out there' ideas I never thought would actually make it to the head of the feature queue. Awesome!! - Kevin Fox
This was one of the very earliest Gmail brainstorming ideas (from before there was any Gmail). It's very cool to see it live! Gmail labs is a great idea Keith. - Paul Buchheit
It's not working on mine. :-( I turned it on in Labs and my UI has the extra line of space under the To: box but I can add several people and it makes no suggestions. Tell me who my friends are!!! :-) - Kevin Fox
Very cool :) Happy Sneezy Sleepy LOL!! - Susan Beebe
These labs are continually coming up with stuff that genuinely help! Keep it up! - Dan Walters
It works for me. I would post a screenshot, but editing images (to remove email addresses) is nearly impossible on my mac due to lack of mspaint. - Paul Buchheit
You could install VMWare to get mspaint, I suppose. - Kevin Fox
Why overkill and install VMWare when you can just install Paintbrush for the Mac? http://paintbrush.sourceforge.net/ - Edmund Tay
Nice - I always want to peak at my contact list to see who I'm missing - BEX
awesome. glad we got this out. - Dustin
Very nice :) Now only if Gmail would stop asking me "Send message without a subject?" - Ralph Harik
@Ralph Would you rather like a lab feature that replaces empty subjects with "Don't you like informative subjects so that you can organize your emails?". That's so much better for your receivers :) - Jérôme Flipo
@Jérôme Ideally, I would like Gmail to keep track of the contacts I send email to without a subject line. Having to deal with the popup every time, slows me down. It's ok if Gmail asks me once or twice per contact, to learn my preference. However, after that it becomes frustrating to deal with. It can replace empty subjects with the first X characters of my email. - Ralph Harik
+1 Jérôme! :) - Stanislas Jourdan

"“Virtual machines are a strange beast,” says Bak. “There’s no perfect solution, instead you optimise for the ‘sweet spot’. There’s a lot of craftsmanship. It’s a long game, you can’t burn out. “There’s a constant workload,” he adds, “so I always stop for dinner. You can have a normal life.” For Bak this means family and privacy. The issue of work/life balance crops up again and again in conversation – and though he’s not anti-American, he clearly prefers the Danish way of life. “In the US, there is an aggressiveness, the extra level of belief in yourself that is needed. The European way is less aggressive. But in the US, you can get promoted and stay in touch with the technical side. In Europe, you turn into a paper manager. It’s hard to get your fingers dirty.” By working in Denmark for Google, Bak was aiming for the best of both worlds." - Bret Taylor from Bookmarklet

What are the first five tabs you open each day?
Mine are iGoogle (browser homepage), Gmail (work mail), Gmail (personal mail), Google Reader, and then it depends on what I plan on spending time looking at first. - DeWitt Clinton
My iGoogle page is basically empty except for the Google Bookmarks gadget and the Google News gadget. The bookmark list itself is short -- it has all the above links, plus FriendFeed, Google Finance, Google Calendar (work), Popurls, and Techmeme. That's it. - DeWitt Clinton

Upside Of A Down Economy: Crocs To Go Out Of Business
BEST. NEWS. EVER! Happy Friday to me! - Mona Nomura from Bookmarklet
OMG! That really is the best news ever! My hatred for those know no bounds! - John Wang

I feel horrible since they're folding but ECSTATIC those things will FINALLY no longer be produced!!!!!! - Mona Nomura
I'm kind of sad. They are good for the beach. - Rodfather
Hit the close out sale, Rodfather - Mona Nomura
I wish I could LOVE a post. - Chieze Okoye
of course. by no means am I happy that people will be out of jobs. but i really am happy beyond belief that the horrific monstrosities will be gone. - John Wang
What are you guys so excited about? There are already knock-offs out there, and established footwear manufacturers will make them as long as they sell. - Kevin L
What will we have to make fun of now? - Tamara
Knock-offs are made because ogs sell. If the OGs are no longer produced - so long knock-offs! It's only a matter of time until they become EXTINCT. Thank god!!! Tamara - Bluetooth headsets ;) - Mona Nomura
As many people as I see wearing them, this is surprising news. Awesome news, but surprising. - Sarah Perez
YES. - felix
YAY! I always thought crocs looked like toys on people's feet! - ursi
My favorite house shoes. - Yolanda
oh no... will there now be a whole secondary market for these things? collectors and croc junkies paying obscene money for the dwindling supply?? Maybe I'll stock up on them now. ;) - felix
Over like - Pete Delucchi
Dust off your ebay accounts! - Mona Nomura
@Mona Yes! I like this idea - Tamara
They may be "comfortable" but they sure aren't cool. - Nicholas James
I probably wouldn't have that big of a problem with them, if more people took care of their feet. OMG gross. - Mona Nomura from IM
Sad, really. I know people who work while standing all day who thought these shoes were a gift from God. Hate to see them go for that reason. Personally, I never "got into" them. - Anthony K. Valley © from fftogo
THere are tons of other options - in soles, bunyon shoes, podiatrist certified, etc. Those things are just plain ugly. - Mona Nomura from IM
Boo! Great as house shoes or on the beach! - WorldofHiglet
Flip flops are your best friend! - Mona Nomura from IM
I hate flip-flops too - but they're comfy at home :) - Mona Nomura from IM
Andru you just broke the interwebs - AJ Batac
Hide for Andru Edwards comment - Mil∂d
AND with flip-flops, there's COMPLETE foot exposure going on so people tend to take care of their feet! - Mona Nomura from IM
Mona, what about those cool platform flipflops from Japan that Mugen wears on Samurai Champuru? - Matthew DeVries
my kids love their crocs. I love mine. and they are cute sandles. not ugly. - Erin @queenofspain
Swiss cheese for feet = DO NOT WANT - Mona Nomura from IM
A) We're not going out of business. B) we have other stuff that aren't the "ugly" iconic shoes everyone knows and c) Losing my job wouldn't be the best news ever. :-p Seriously though - if people talked about our OTHER shoes, maybe we can move on from the comfort but ugly talk into just comfortable and EVERYONE will be happy..... - George Smith
the company is also very active in social media - Erin @queenofspain
I AM SO HAPPY - Mike Nayyar
I hear their social media guy is wicked awesome, cute, and funny....errrr hi everyone - George Smith
Hahahhaha. Omg I am mortified - George, I will never celebrate you losing your job. SORRY. I just HATE those shoes! - Mona Nomura
They are ugly--and they seem like they last forever--we'll still be seeing them around for awhile yet. - Rob Michael (Atmos Trio)
Must pass this on. - Kevin Pedraja
Erin - those look like logger women shoes. - Mona Nomura from IM
Best story ever - when I was interviewed at Crocs, they asked me what I thought of the company. I said I was impressed with their growth but, and I quote "I'm from New York - You'll never see me wearing those ugly shoes." I was hired immediately. I wear Crocs daily - not the iconic ones - but all our other shoes. I don't like some stuff we do, hate others, and am completely passionate about the ones I love. We're not just a one shoe company! ;-) - George Smith
George - I stand corrected http://twitter.com/Mona... Good to know you still have your job! And I LOVE the interview story LOL - Mona Nomura
Whoa. EDIT: +10 George. Good to see you're up and working. - Derrick
No problem. I figured I'd correct you because I knew you'd listen and you're also always online. ha. We are making some cool stuff and I always want to hear what other people WANT. I mean - our consumers are "people with feet." If you don't like what we do, tell us what you want and let us try. Comfort doesn't have to come in swiss cheese shoes. lol - George Smith
hahahha but props to you for being up on your game! - Mona Nomura from IM
Hey - the reason I know you're always online is that I'm always online. That and My patented crocs spidey sense. - George Smith
Mona, not saying you are one, but the fact someone went to the trouble of writing a definition for "croc-o-phobe" says something about the croc wars. http://shoeblogs.com/2007... :) - Micah Wittman
Major props to you George, for being up on your social media game. You epitomize a 'good' community manager. ;) Though I still hate those shoes hahahaha ;) - Mona Nomura
Hey - I don't own a pair with holes. I wear these: http://bit.ly/OzTKG or our Flip Flops religiously. I would probably quit if they made me wear the ones with holes on them. I may love working for Crocs, but I like being the real me a lot more. - George Smith
Didn't Crocs acquire Bite Shoes (the running sandals company)? Glad they're not going out of business. - Andrew C
so long... farewell... good bye..... - Harold
Well I'm going against the grain here and have to say for a long time I was a croc mocker but I had a change of heart when I wore my mates pair fishing on my boat. Yes they look bad and the bright colours suck but talk about the best shoe for walking in the water fishing and grippies shoe for fishing on the boat. For me a sad day to all you hates please spare a though for me when my fishing crocs wear out where do I turn what do I wear suggestion are welcome. 8( - John Spencer from BuddyFeed
The free market has spoken! It doesn't like crocs! Yay! :p - Rudolf Olah
@Andrew - yeah we did acquire Bite (they did golf shoes and running sandals). Here's an initial example of the golf shoes: http://bit.ly/BiteisnowCrocs - George Smith
Jason hahahha. Chia pets are 10+ years and still going strong. But you are FUNNY. - Mona Nomura
HAAALLELUJAH - Kamilah Gill
wait...chia pets are cool. At least the og ones are. I don't know about the new versions of them though - Tamara
So what will be the next fad? - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
Pope condoms joelle - Steve C
Yeah, I hate that crap! - Susan Beebe
wait, I just saw that George here said that they *aren't* going out of business. so what actually happened? - Kamilah Gill
They og article said they MIGHT. George said no. So I Tweeted a rumor smash. :) - Mona Nomura from fftogo
Gee... I wear them at work. As a nurse, their great at work. - Sean
All this over some shoes? what the heck people? - Bwana ☠
also? lookie at her shoes http://twitpic.com/2imp1 - Erin @queenofspain
OK, QofS, those are some cute crocs on a cute little princess! - ursi
Nooooooooooooo - Mr K from Nambu
Dru OMG I can't believe it took this long for me to figure out your super long comment. Deleted, btw. And Erin's Hala is an exception. - Mona Nomura
Mona, i LOVE my Crocs :-P my feet are in perfect shape thanks to this brilliant brand, thank you! - Majento
I'm so happy! My wife wears 'em and buys for my youngest as well. I think they are SO ugly. - Herb Hernandez
You people worry about what others wear WAY too much. Best stick to your own foot wear. - CW™
Goodbye and Good Riddance! - Kyle Judkins
It becomes other people's concerns when WAY too many people that don't take care of their feet expose it for COMFORT. Plus, Crocs colors are atrocious. It's criminal, unless you do it right (like Erin's daughter) - Mona Nomura
but i just saw earlier a pic of a new line of crocs and they looked good :( - chaz2b
Relax, they're not going out of business! This was a rumor that was squashed :) - Mona Nomura
no, i just posted the link i was talkling about, http://shop.crocs.com/c-4-foo... - chaz2b
wooooohooo! - Christian (Simply X)
I hate this world - Bwana ☠
It's true that some of the colors are way off, i only buy black ones & they're cool - Majento
I don't think they will ever go away. Just because you are all hating on them doesn't change the fact that they rock. And wall mart will always sell knock off crocs because they can make a killing. Parents love crocs for kids. If Crocs need to reorg to get past relying on debt to operate so be it. - Christian Burns
Lol - I'm so far behind this week!! Glad to see George already dropped by and squashed the rumor - after Crocs saved my feet in Austin @ SxSW (thanks to George) I'm a die-hard fan - and no, not of the old-style Mickey Mouse shoes - but of the cute ones I wore all over down there that no one would've known were crocs except I couldn't help telling everyone! :) - Lucretia Pruitt
I was a "croc-hater" too for awhile. My kids absolutely love them. Personally, I own Nike, Adidas, Prada, Tommy Bahama and Croc flip-flops (normal looking) and the Crocs are by far the most comfortable. - Adam Rogers
I'm with Adam. I don't wear them myself, but my daughter loves them. And if she loves them and can put them on herself (she's 3), they're winners in my book. - Jen (SquirrelGirl)
And like someone above said - they're not going away. There are too many knock-offs for the style to go away. - Jen (SquirrelGirl)
heh. at the horrific prices they charge for original Crocs, I went and shamelessly bought knock-offs at roughly 10% of the price - a whole rainbow collection. my feet love them when I go malling. I save my original Hush Puppies for the times I need to put up an "image" for other people. =) - Starshadow Rivaulx
My kids love them. I do not. To each, their own. - Martha

Give yourself a gift this holiday season - create a FriendFeed List that contains key FriendFeed searches. Just pipe your FriendFeed search URL's into a public Google Reader tag/folder. Then create an imaginary friend in FF and use the tag/folder URL as "Blog". Then dump into your FF List.
whoa. that's some nifty trickery. - Brian Daniel Eisenberg
Indeed, trickery. The cool thing is that adding new keywords only involves adding the FriendFeed search results URL to the proper Google Reader tag/folder. Results then automagically appear back on FF. - Mike Reynolds
Would that be niftery? - Lisa L. Seifert
Whoa indeed. - Juan Pablo González
Good idea Mike, I was trying to figure out how to bring ff searches into a list, but of course, they don't allow their own feeds to be put into rooms/lists. This should solve the problem! The ff search is very powerful. - Kelly Johns
Yes, the benefit is having key searches available with one click. - Mike Reynolds
I did that for FOOD - my own "search" dumps as an imaginary friend - my "food" buddy --- dumps into a ROOM....yummy place - Susan Beebe
Clever, Mike. I've been searching for something like this. - Sean McBride
Don't feel bad Gregory. While I generally understand why something would be useful, I wish I were geek enough to do actually implement these fancy things myself. http://www.growmap.com/can-a-q... - Internet Strategist
By the way, I dropped into this conversation from a search at http://www.ffholic.com - Internet Strategist
I drop into quite a few Friendfeed conversations via FFholic Most Discussed and Friend Best of Day feeds fed through Google Reader. - Sean McBride
Very clever! - Jay
Thanks for this Mike. Works well. I'm trying Google Alerts as well. - Kol Tregaskes
Chris - I'm tracking hundreds of things via Google Reader. Good for trend spotting. One thing I track is the theme park industry trends given that I work for Disney Parks, with Twitter being the ultimate resource. In economics, I like to track "gdp projections", "inflation" and "deflation". And how about you? - Mike Reynolds
