We still use a right pointing arrow for play despite the majority of media not spooling tape. Icons transcend - Johnny from iPhone

What Skyler said. I think as things become more abstract, there really are no better ways to communicate them in a simple icon. Even if todays kids have no idea what a floppy is, that icon is familiar.....what Johnny said. LOL. - Rah-PM 2012
