3136 kbps down / 858 kbps up on 3G in the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Australia. On the Optus Network (Virgin Mobile) with a G1. Curiously, my ADSL2+ connection (via wifi) at home gives almost almost the same downstream, and a little *less* upstream.
- Andrew Perry
+Anne--Right about the time I forget about this, it shows up again. Too funny.
- Rob Michael (Atmos Trio)
interesting. I've tried a few times to get animated images to work on FF without success.. I guess piping it through twitpic might be the answer!
- veo
veo, yeah Twitpic, RSS (MediaRSS), Delicious, Tumblr all seem to work. There are more than that but those come to mind.
- Josh Haley
Just one question, Josh: are you by chance spinning on 9 different Aeron chairs that were a steal after the first dot-com bubble burst? The future of the internets: you're looking at it =)
- Micah Wittman
could anybody describe how to create such a picture? thx
- Arnaud Fischer
Arnaud, see http://friendfeed.com/mokarga... for tips. And Josh correct me if I'm wrong, he uploaded to Twitpic the same animated GIF 9 times, then created a friendfeed post and attached all 9 images by URL (instead of choosing images from his hard drive). Images coming from twitpic, soup.io, etc will animate, but photos hosted by friendfeed itself won't.
- Micah Wittman
Did not sleep well with all the spinning. :p
- Josh Haley
from iPhone
It's infinitely more amusing when they don't all load at the same time. Spinning chaos!!!
- CAJ, somewhere else
Why the friendfeed limitation on animated .gifs? It seems arbitrary and odd to me. I could see wanting to limit filesize (animated .gifs can get large) but you can upload huge .jpgs without any trouble.
- veo
Mesmerizing like a lava lamp. Hey! You are a 'Lame-o Lamp'! And you might want to call the folks in the makeup department and get that forehead de-sheened. Remember, your forehead is an alternate landing site for the Space Shuttle - And you don't want to blind the crew on their final approach, do you? :-)
- Morgan Haley
Good luck trying to land anything on that while it's moving. :p I can always count on my brother.
- Josh Haley
OMG! That should be the next installment at some fluecy deucy art museum!!! AWESOME. :) It's like whack-a-mole... I keep trying to figure out which one will show your face next and for some reason I'm always wrong.
- Lindsay is in 20-ten
Thanks, Lindsay! :) I think that's the first time someone described wanting to systematically hit me on the head repeatedly, yet have it come off as a compliment. I would love to take credit like I was Andy Warhol or something, but alas I was just tired and felt like doing something silly. :p
- Josh Haley
from iPhone
yep, what Lindsay said. That was one of the first bona-fide instances I've seen of using Friendfeed as a medium for net art. You could get in the Whitney & stuff. GOOD JOB
- Kamilah Gill
LOL! I actually didn't mean it the way it came out (the hitting you on the head part, the compliment part is ok ;)). But I'm in tears laughing when I read your reply. Whack-a-mole always frustrated the heck out of me... I did a lot more staring than hitting when I tried to play. It was mesmerizing.
- Lindsay is in 20-ten
you wait - the scary part of this comes when one of these ffoodoo heads stops turning, starts grimmacing and talking to you ..... have you seen one of these heads actually get up off the chair and curse the world??? ... the seeming dissynchronicity, the haphazard discord with which these dollheads turn might drive you ...nuts
- Petr Buben
I didnt really want to add everyone i know on friendfeed to my facebook, i like to keep them seperate as much as i can. but you know what, fuck it http://www.facebook.com/simon... add a note saying you;re from friendfeed if you add me, then i can group everyone up :)
- Simon Wicks
Thanks, Simon. I've not started going through these yet. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
I'm only going to add the people i actually talk to on here. I have a lot less people on my follow list than you, so its a bit easier for me :)
- Simon Wicks
Remember, guys. According to FB, you're only allowed 5000 friends. Spend them wisely.
- James Myatt
As if we weren't before? Were they really that many people here who didn't also have a FB account, even if they didn't list it in their profile? I've been with FB since 2004
- LANjackal
Well, with this news it is pushing me to start using my real name for web services and to kill (or at least slowly stop using) the tomit persona that I have used for many years. Find me here... http://www.facebook.com/ronaldb...
- tomit
FF better figure out how not to destroy themselves (if possible) with this merger. Friendfeed in the FB interface will not work. I think FF really just f*cked themselves.
- Ethan
I'm on Facebook, but I don't have a name in my profile URL (yet; I'm still new...). But if you want it, it's http://www.facebook.com/profile... -- if you friend me, tell me you're from FF.
- Dennis Jernberg
I don't freaking have one because I never wanted to sign up for Facebook. :P Now I find out that through no fault of my own I'm technically a Facebook user? GAH.
- Cheryl Jones
http://facebook.com/alex.covic - I will friend everybody - for those of you concerned with friend/family + privacy = you can create lists (just like ff-groups) to keep FF-users in a different corner;-).
- Alex 'BuckyBit' Covic
I do not use it much LOL I just post to it from other sites so to fill up my friends stream, I do get messages and some status in text. Anyone who really wants to add me, use the facebook link on my profile. :o)
- David Gross
www.facebook.com/drodzand you won't see much since I got the privacy settings on max in Facebook. Just another reason why I think Facebook is completely different from friendfeed. I hope they keep friendfeed running because I use both services in diametrically diverse ways.
- David Rodriguez
http://www.facebook.com/kimbers... (I can remember if I commented on this already. I don't see "You" on the list, but I'm tired. So, hopefully, I didn't. If I did, oh well.
- Kimber Scott
Thanks Rob, I had forgotten my username for I always used my email address to login - I found there is a settings > username > change thing that lets you change your username once and then you get a facebook.com/username url!
- TrafficBug
I am thinking about just using my Public Page more. Keep my regular profile for family and coworker data. Follow me here if you want more of the type of posts I do here of Friendfeed. http://www.facebook.com/pages...

I still wish there was a better market/developer/download management, period :) So many things missing or broke - top daily/weekly/monthly - they don't even change the app image advertisements at the top, developers have little control for version management - neither do users. You have to release separate apps for "lite" and "full" versions, spamming the market... along with spam apps...
- Tim Hoeck
yeah, my number one want is an 'Update All'
- Christian Cable
+1 for "Update All" in the Market. With an extra security feature that held back updates for any app where access permissions had changed, and allowed manual authorization for those.
- Andrew Perry
Shame Google hasn't made a bunch of these available.. maybe when their new icon guidelines are released :) Sure would help. I appreciate the efforts here, but I need a few common icons...things like Settings, or New, or Delete...
- Tim Hoeck
Anyone know why my android phone (myTouch) running the latest cyanogen takes so long to get back to my home screen? Sometimes it even gives me an options to forceclose because of inactivity. Besides that the phone rarely lags.
G1 here - had/have the same thing happen occasionally both stock, and rooted. I assume that it's related to memory management.
- John Craft
It's just Android for ya. It's improved for me under Cyanogen, but not cured. Bottom line is... Android was built for 2010 machines, not the ones it is currently on. Those are just previews.
- Adrian
That's what I figured. Thanks for the feedback everyone.
- Ward Seward
Go in to Spare Parts and check of the setting for Holding the home screen in memory.
- Chris Faulkner
Chris, that is the best android tip I've seen so far! You rock my friend. Thank you!
- Ward Seward
Okay, so I have to go into timeout whining about Comcast. They've recently upped their HD offerings in our area significantly. Now we get every HBO station in HD (and from the Pacific feed, no less). Over the past month and a half, we've probably gained 50 HD stations. So, yeah. Way to go, Comcast. [begrudgingly said]
There's some strange satisfaction I get from bitching about (besides everything) TWC, but I've had to give them a timeout as well, since my home broadband speed has suddenly gotten so fast, I won't jinx it by even mentioning any more about it.
- ɐ ɯıʞ sıɹɥɔ
Really? Not us in West Palm Beach.. we have a total of 32 - and we have to be on the highest paid tier to get them all... which, half of them suck. Each time they add a couple, you have to be on the next highest paid plan. Oh, they just added NFL Redzone to the channels list... but we don't get it! Let me guess.. I have to go up yet another tier?
- Tim Hoeck
"Hi Pat, At the moment, move is not implemented - unfortunately for the release, I did not get it in there. However, I am working on a much better layout system, so hopefully I can get an update out soon."
- Tim Hoeck
This works amazingly well, I got a full install, SD and network support working fine on a virtual machine - with Android 1.6!! Now I just need to get the market working :)

Hi, I'm new to this page but I just purchased a HTC Hero and was looking for a FriendFeed application but I couldn't find anything and then I did some research and came across your program and got relly excited but then realised the date of the posting which was June 28th, you still due to release or given up hope?
hah! It's in the room! It is considered very Pre-beta.. still broken stuff.. but I want to know If I should continue on this path, or make a drastic change.. http://ff.im/4DGzk
- Tim Hoeck
Hi, I'd like to give AndFeed a try!! Sign me up for beta testing, thanks!
- DvD
Hi Daniel, as soon as I have a new version ready to test, I'll include you.. recently, I've been a bit busy, and haven't been able to work on it.
- Tim Hoeck
I'd love to beta test too! sign me up...
- Dylan Lorimer
Looks amazing. I just need an Android device.
- Zachary TG
@Tim activated my andriod today (HTC Hero) and would _love_ to be able to try out this app. seems you're busy right now - that's cool. just let me know when you have a beta to test and i'd be happy to give you feedback. cheers!
- MikeAmundsen
Yes, I hate that I haven't had time to get back to this.. but I have something a bit bigger planned, we'll see how it pans out... congrats on the phone :)
- Tim Hoeck
@Tim: no problem. now tha FF is kinda on the downslide, i can see that something like this project might need to move to the back burner. the "something bigger" tease is cruel, tho<g>.
- MikeAmundsen
If you're still looking for beta testers, I'd love to give it a whirl.
- James Britt
"According to Reuters, Gameloft and other large companies developing games and apps for Android are pulling back support for the platform, noting a lack in ROI. They say that the iPhone distribution model provides MUCH better visibility, leading to sales, leading to revenue – something that has disappointed them with Android"
- Rodfather
from Bookmarklet
I didn't even know Gameloft had games in the Market
- Rodfather
if their games didn't suck, maybe they wouldn't have a problem :P
- Ⓐ ☠ slayerboy ☠ Ⓐ
They are exactly right. How hard is it to at the very least put 'best of day/week/month', that would tremendously help sales. I have seen the same 'Top' and 'Featured' apps for pretty much the entire time I have owned my G1. They need a new market and SOON.
- Tim Hoeck
Dear Gameloft, Can Android market place can be improved, yes. But because of your dislike for how it is implemented you choose to limit your products availability to a new market. Then you whine about it and cry that you can't make money. Probably best you stay away if that is how your management handles difficulty.
- CW™
Are there any prohibitions in place by the OHA or the carriers that would prevent gameloft or a consortium of game developers from creating their own marketplace?
- scott anderson
Just wondering, I don't protest doing so, just wondering if I have to.
- Matthew DeVries
I haven't wiped for an upgrade in a long time.
- Tim Hoeck
You can run fix_permissions after installing, but you may need to wipe to go from the old CM builds to the new (post C&D) builds that don't include google apps.

Toast that comes out of the toaster was clearly destined to become toast because that is what it has become. We cannot look at a piece of bread and know that it was meant to be toast until it has become toast but once it has become toast we can say, 'Ah, yes, this slice of bread has become toast and thus it clearly has existed in a pre-toasted state up until now.' And thus: toast goes in the toaster.
- Akiva Moskovitz
This flies in the face of Schroedinger's Toast Theory which suggests that bread placed into a toaster exists both in a toasted and untoasted state that can not be determined until the damn thing pops up. It's one of the most delicious smelling theory in all of science.
- Akiva Moskovitz
I have had too much wine to follow this any further
- Brian Sullivan
but then you should have said "Pre-toast goes in the toaster."
- edythe
:-D But Akiva, if I'm following you correctly, you might as well say excrement comes out of the toaster, because the toast "was clearly destined" to be eaten and subsequently excreted. You could go a step farther and say the nitrogen from the excrement goes into the ground, where it is taken up by more wheat, to make more toast, to become more excrement. Thus the universe is excrement in a constant state of becoming itself.
- Karim
Maybe it's not that "shit happens" so much as "shit is happening."
- Karim
The toast is not toast. There is no toast. There is no bread. There are only crumbs. All else is illusion.
- Roger Benningfield
@Brian Actually, I think Loic Le Meur is the supreme bread being (if I dream tonight about Loic teaching me to bake bread, I will have to stay off all social media for a week).
- MiniMage TKDteacher of FF
Roger, that is very close to being a Crumbist heresy!
- Karim
Edythe:The toast is not toast. There is no toast. There is no bread. There are only crumbs. All else is illusion.
- Roger Benningfield
if (empty $toaster) { $toaster += $bread; while ($bread != $toast) ... }
- Tim Hoeck
from NoiseRiver
roger, i actually meant karim, but i'll take what i can get. :)
- edythe
Edythe: Thank you for confirming that I am, indeed, the Mr. Pibb to everyone else's Dr. Pepper.
- Roger Benningfield
lol awwww Roger, that is not what she meant... :-D Besides, I heard Pibb recently got his doctoral degree...
- Karim
i think they have something called Mr. Pibb Extra now.
- edythe
of course, it goes without saying that the water in the Mr. Pibb, extra or otherwise, was always destined to be Mr. Pibb, and therefore should be more accurately referred to as "water ingredient for Mr. Pibb". And the same goes for water ingredient for Dr. Pepper.
- Trent Olson
Karim, if you place a slice of bread into your toaster and then out pops excrement, I'd contact the manufacturer immediately and lodge a formal complaint. That toaster is a little TOO efficient.
- Akiva Moskovitz
Akiva, i think your comment has a typo...don't you mean to say "and then out *poops* excrement"? makes much more sense...
- Trent Olson
OMG you guys! Y'all have brought tears to my eyes.
- Yolanda
Hey... that rhymes! I wish there was a way to favorite a conversation here.
- Yolanda
Wow. This just kept going after I signed off last night. You guys crack me up. For shizzle.
- Lisa L. Seifert
I cannot believe that despite the name-dropping in this thread, that nobody actually asked me. I would clearly have illustrated how Akiva is wrong - again.
- Louis Gray
This is the one thing that I am definitely not wrong about.
- Akiva Moskovitz
This still cracks me up. Also, I miss Karim.
- Yolanda
I don't have a toaster, yet I can make toast. How is this possible?
- Jim in Real Time
Yolanda, me, too. He was the best drive-by commenter in his class.
- Akiva Moskovitz
If toast goes in the toaster, then a wife goes down the altar. Since I do not believe a pre-vows bride is a wife, I cannot agree that bread that has yet to be toasted is toast. [edit: also, if a toaster malfunctions and does not do any toasting, you don't have toast]
- MiniMage TKDteacher of FF
A couple years back when VZW promised an "open" network with "open" devices, I thought they were full of crap. But I really do believe they've delivered - in principle - with the Droid. I was able to junk $2.99/mth Visual Voicemail for Google Voice with a few clicks and no resistance from the device or carrier. Well done, Big V.
? Are you implying it's impossible to say anything complimentary about a company without being biased towards them? Nothing I said implied VZW's better than any other carrier. All I said was that they delivered on what the promised.
- LANjackal
glad you like it! (the check is in the mail) :)
- Tim Hoeck
isn't apple the only one that causes such ridiculous problems? other devices like android and blackberry never have such issues, regardless of carrier
- Mike Chelen
@Tim @Haggis Thanks for those great additions! Hadn't heard of Dolphin Browser or Babbler
- Mitchell McKenna
Babbler is a FB client that is much better than the one FB actually put out. It has a free and pay version, both work very well.
- Haggis (Sean Loyless)
Yeah. LOL. I just made it official, like in the Thriller video...except that I didn't turn into a werewolf and chase her through the woods....

- Kamilah Gill
Thanks for all of the above, I subscribed to quite a few. Big shoutout to Kevin Mohr who's been stumping for Android since I first saw him online

Whose bright idea it was to not make a decent amount of internal memory a REQUIREMENT, I'll never know. It's difficult to reverse something like this, because you will have so many phones going out that don't have the storage, developers can't rely on users having it... you know how many (US) PS2 games fully made use of the addon hard drive.. 1. They didn't, because they couldn't rely...
