"Bruce Sexton, Jr., a named plaintiff in the case from the beginning, added: “This settlement marks a new chapter in making Web sites accessible to the blind. I commend Target for committing to being a leader in online accessibility.” - Mike Fruchter
Does anyone else find this disturbing? - Mike Fruchter
If you are a large corporation, you now have to worry about being sued because your website is not accessible to the blind. - Mike Fruchter
The fact is that this settlement puts accessibility on the agenda for corporations who might otherwise think that ignoring disabled visitors to their web site is acceptable. - Mike Fruchter
I don't get how one affects the other. Whether data is transferred on demand and saved or transferred on demand and not saved, it is still data transferred adding up. - Michael W. May (Joffi)
Streaming is one to one. Bit torrent is usually one to many or many to many through your internet connection. Bits pile up both ways, but pile up a lot faster using Bit torrent because of the number of simultaneous incoming and outgoing connections. - Vincent Ferrari
Except 99% of torrent users stay connected long enough to get what they want and then don't seed. They are lucky to upload 50% of what they download in that time. But say it is 50%. The deluge of video streaming coming down the pipe over then few months will take care of that amount data in short order. - Michael W. May (Joffi)
the problem with streaming is re-streaming crap that you have already seen so that you can see it again. also this whole "consumer internet" idea is complete bullshit and really needs to go away. people want to make stuff and serve it. - Michael J Cohen
But even if they don't stay on after they're done, they're still seeding parts of the file while they're grabbing parts of it, plus making multiple simultaneous connections to do so. - Vincent Ferrari
full disclosure: painkillers, sorry for being a jerk. :( - Michael J Cohen
streaming means three things a) lower quality b) It's not saved to watch at a later date, and c) still using lots of bandwidth. - Tim Hoeck
Interesting take on lists, I like it. Now if I can just figure out the tags I am going to use :) - Tim Hoeck
My FriendFeed project for the weekend is to start creating my lists. Now I can tag all the editors
that cater to my various interests on FF. It's a win, win situation. - Mike Fruchter
What are you naming your lists? This is my dilemma currently. - Mike Fruchter
My initial lists are in the blog post. But I'm going to evolve those over time. - Hutch Carpenter
I have begun my initial tag'n'sort, but I think it's gonna take me all weekend. Since I accidentally added all those following me, I should take the time to include them in my lists. Of course, once the initial sort is done is when the real work begins - refining the lists. - Slippy Lane
CONGRATS! sunday and monday are supposed to be GORGEOUS days in montreal. let me know if you need recommendations for things to do! (assuming you actually leave the boudoir...) - amy buckland
Congrats! Getting married has been the best decision I've made in my life so far. - Meredith Farkas
congratulations! i loved being married. :) - edythe
Love the photos! Thanks for sharing them. I was so close to blabbing your secret, too. Didn't think I could hold out the whole day. - Stephen Francoeur
"Frankly, it is hard to take anyone seriously who created a company motto reminding an organization not to be “evil” to their customers. Friendfeed now seems a little lamer to me than it did before." - Paul Buchheit via Bookmarklet
i like the 1 comment on his about page: "I’m looking for some help setting up SQL 2005 Web Services. I need some hands on training. Would you be able to help me as a consultant or trainer?" LMAO! - Morgan
Glad you got trash-talked in a way you can enjoy. :-) - Bruce Lewis
my login name is "eviltom" - does that count for anything? - eviltom
Better than being the Microsoftian who created the secret motto "Do be evil, but don't tell anyone" - Jason Carreira
It wasn't "trash talk". I don't think any of my comments were disrespectful to Paul personally. I have never been a fan of the slogan and never will be. To each his own I guess. You guys have fun with the discussion, eh? :) - Randy Holloway
I saw "hard to take anyone seriously" as disrespectful and "who created a company motto..." as Paul personally, but maybe that's just me. - Bruce Lewis via fftogo
No problem Randy, and no offense taken. I just thought it was kind of funny :) - Paul Buchheit
Evil is Live when reversed... now, what was the Microsoft's online brand again? ;) - Joni Moilanen
Bruce- fair enough. To clarify then, it would be better to say that I don't like that slogan and learning that Paul created it colored my perception of FriendFeed. Others can disagree, no personal disrespect intended. - Randy Holloway
Interesting. I've never particularly cared for Nike's "Just Do It" slogan, but if Dan Wieden (former ad man for Nike) went out and started up a cool new shoelace company, I can't imagine that my distaste for a slogan he created many years ago would in any way color my opinion of his fine, fine shoelaces. - Jeanette Martinez
am i the only one that thinks it's hilarious that a current msft employee would be bagging on a "former" goog employee's not lame new company simply because of a slogan that was part of a (goog) marketing campaign to differentiate themselves from the "evil empire" (msft) - all of which is ancient history - randy here's a clue, if you have to say "no disrespect intended" someone took it as disrespectful, i know i did when i read it - rock on paul, glad you're humored by this :) - mike "glemak" dunn
Paul didn't say “don't be evil” as a marketing slogan. - Amit Patel

The tactic exploits the internet routing protocol BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) to let an attacker surreptitiously monitor unencrypted internet traffic anywhere in the world, and even modify it before it reaches its destination. - Mitchell Tsai via Bookmarklet
Peiter "Mudge" Zatko, noted computer security expert and former member of the L0pht hacking group, who testified to Congress in 1998 that he could bring down the internet in 30 minutes using a similar BGP attack, and disclosed privately to government agents how BGP could also be exploited to eavesdrop. "I went around screaming my head about this about ten or twelve years ago.... We described this to intelligence agencies and to the National Security Council, in detail." - Mitchell Tsai
Me: Internet routing is so trust-based (from a different age). I'm very surprised that no one has used these obvious attacks during 1991-2008 to take down the internet more often. In 1991, I probably would have bet that the public would have shifted to more secure routing by 2000. Probably, however, the unexpected growth of the internet has made router-upgrades cost-prohibitive. - Mitchell Tsai

Anyone got other favorite Flickr photographers? Is there a way to search for other people with 1+/5+/10+ million views? I've only learned this morning how to use PicLens and Sizes to see bigger Flickr pictures, so quite the Flickr novice here... Any help would be much appreciated. How do Flickr users find other photographers? - Mitchell Tsai
Mitchell - I typically use the 'friends' features of Flickr much more than any search. I usually just look at people I like, then look at their friends for the same styles of photos. It was worked for me in the past at least. - Bryan Pearson
Bryan - Thanks for the help. I haven't tried the "friends" feature of Flickr yet. I'll give it a shot... - Mitchell Tsai
Wow! Thanks Thomas for the article. Have to find time to read the last few years of your blog. Your articles are so good... Great insights (1) Scout (2) Archive (9) Flickr Toys. See http://friendfeed.com/e/baee41... for a partial summary. I'm headed out for a walk & some photos. The birds are calling. Yesterday saw amazing fireflies, but couldn't get any decent photos without a bigger lens and more sensitive camera. :-( - Mitchell Tsai
I love ko-knia's work - and I was lucky enough to book him to shoot my (edit: upcoming) wedding in August. - Brian Glick
Brian - You are one lucky guy! How was the wedding? Do you have pics on-line? - Mitchell Tsai
Sorry - wasn't clear - my wedding is coming up in August, and I booked him earlier this year. - Brian Glick
God, I love this photo. I should revisit my likes more often. Turns out I have pretty good taste. - Alexei Tolkachev
Alexei: You're lucky you've got under 400 likes/comments. I would love to revisit the stuff I liked in March, but with 12,900, I can't see most of them. :-( I wish I could see "stuff I liked in March", "stuff I liked in April", etc... - Mitchell Tsai
I love how all the pictures are just called 'kid'. - Tim Hoeck
Tim: I wonder if it's a privacy thing with the kids names? - Mitchell Tsai
It seems to be working fine. I'll fix it up and see if I can release it tomorrow. - Rahsheen(isSoAwesome)
Cool Rahsheen! That's on my list of to do's . - Mattb4rd
Correction...I guess I already released it when I started posting with it. I added some user-inputs to make it easier to use, though. :) - Rahsheen(isSoAwesome)
It's not a big deal. This is the same cap they've always had in place. Just now, they are making it public. - Andru Edwards
They did? How so? I live with three people that dl like crazy, and we've never had issues. But that's besides the point. We're gonna end up like other countries where we get charged an arm and a leg. And who knows, perhaps mobile data, too. - Mona N.
You are so impatient :) Of COURSE we care.. but what the hell are we going to do about it. 80% of us don't have another option. And I have downloaded a crapload more than that, and never got notice before. They are making it public, so they can begin enforcing it more. Just my opinion. - Tim Hoeck
i seriously don't know how you, Duncan, Mo, and the others do it... :( Tim: I don't know WHAT we can do. But I have a weird inkling that it's goign to escalate into more. It starts at the home, then mobile... Boycott? Protest? Petition? I don't know, but this is kinda sucky. - Mona N.
I'll have to really ponder this - what with an Apple TV and Netflix box. An average movie is 1+ GB and a whole season of a TV show can be 30GB. I think I need to check out the bandwith monitoring on my router and see what damage I do in a month. - Jason Kaneshiro
That would be great to know, Jason. Our household exceeds 250gigs... - Mona N.
@Mona yeah - obviously if having to pay a fee for going over a cap suddenly makes me highly motivated to figure out how to monitor our usage - Jason Kaneshiro

Wish they had this before they cut me off. I liked their service, I hated the way they dealt with customers. - Dave Winer
I hate Comcast. Does my bill go down now that its capped? Of course not. Greedy corporate jerk-offs. - Tony Kanzia
Frontier is imposing a 5GB cap: http://stopthecap.com/2008/07/... A friend of mine generates reports for all of his family members internet usage and even his mother uses up more than 1GB a *day* just browsing the internet (no games or torrenting) - Benjamin Golub
5gb? WTF? If we don't do something NOW, it's gonna go into mobile. Then all this iPhone vs Android stuff will no longer matter cuz we're gonna get screwed - Mona N.
Like these companies aren't making enough money. - Tony Kanzia
Thank you!! Everyone should read the comment Benjamin Golub left: "Frontier is imposing a 5GB cap: http://stopthecap.com/2008/07/... Next thing you know AOL will rule the internet and we'll be paying by the hour. - Lindsey Smith
Part of the issue is we all have "always on" devices that are doing something over the internet. Download a demo on your Xbox, use TiVo, rent a movie on iTunes. It's hard to measure that kind of internet usage and it all adds up (quickly). - Benjamin Golub
This is another symptom of the problem. Big media does not want the internet to change their game. And this is also what we get for allowing an entertainment delivery company to be a monopoly on our internet service. Comcast doesn't want you watching TV over the internet. They want you paying them for it so they will control how you use your internet. What's next isn't mobile caps, or telling you little sheep to monitor your download. What's next is cutting off your upload. No blog posts. No video... - Adam Turetzky
.. blogs and youtube and viddler compete with their model anyway. You all will stop doing it. Big media's idea to silence all you blog-in-your-pajamas folks is to tape your mouths shut. No more cheaply publishing web sites when it costs you $400 a month to have upload at all and all your readers are afraid to waste their precious 250Gb looking at your photos or going to your blog. Forget about being the next Dr. Horrible or Revision3 that's all done with. Get back to your cable boxes. - Adam Turetzky
Adam: that scares me even more... thank you for your insight. :\ - Mona N.
I've donated $100 a year to EFF when I can. Which hasn't been often enough I'm sad to say. I'm thinking of canceling my landline because of the cost. I don't really have enough to donate $100 a month to the EFF, but I should! So what I'm thinking of doing is not just canceling my la
