Dave: have you noticed how her hair has come down in the past week or so? Funny that as her hair comes down she's showing her true religious colors too. Look "cute" and shake the stick that gets her religious base all excited. I really hope this discredits the religious right inside the Republican Party and that the true fiscal conservatives can wrench control back again. I doubt it, but it's hillarious that this one issue deserves more attention than the economy right now. - Robert Scoble
It demonstrates how we got into this mess: we elected people who weren't smart and who weren't keeping their eye on the economy. Instead it's more important to be anti choice. It's enough to make me want to scream. - Robert Scoble
Scoble, I did notice how she's changed her hair, I think she's really good looking, I could totally go for her -- as long as she kept her mouth shut! :-) - Dave Hussein Winer
Also, I said when she was first chosen, and no one believed me, that she wouldn't age well. I stand by that prediction. If the Republicos lose this election, they're never going to want to hear about her again. She'll be blamed for it (along with McCain of course). - Dave Hussein Winer
Dave: she actually ages very well with her base. They love her. The imagery she has going was disconcerting a month ago before the economy blew up. Now that it has we see just how out of touch she is. Abortion? On a day after the stock market had the worst week ever? Ever? Really? Abortion is SO the issue. Sigh. - Robert Scoble
Republicans might be preparing for Palin vs. Clinton in 2016. - Mike Reynolds
Okay, got it. I don't care. That's a small fraction of the Republicos. She can run against Huckabee. Bet she'd lose. - Dave Hussein Winer
Dave - you're thinking of the Democrats. Republicans love to pick up their losers, dust 'em off, and try it again. She'll be back. - ultimatejosh

@Robert... yes, but "her base" isn't nearly enough to get her into office. I think that if McCain loses, many true Republicans will want to sweep her away. - £ogical €xtremes
The Right Wing Neo-Cons have a new McBush Puppet to control. Since she is a woman and a mother, attacks on her are all off or they will cry foul and sexism. Only way to nip this in the bud is to disqualify her in the eyes of her followers. - Bored
I really hope so. I used to be a Republican because I believe in fiscally conservative philosophy. But I got kicked out of the Republican Party by the religious wackos who are now in charge. Palin is evidence of that. So is Bush. When the religious wackos get kicked out, I might be back. - Robert Scoble
And McC tells the crowd to be more respectful of Obama. The way I read it, here, on FF, all week, McC has been ignoring this! Hmm - Heidi Jeffers Thibodeau
Is this a possible third party? If the real Republican base comes in and reject Palin will she create a third party? - Bored
I figured if the Rep VP would lose this election, that they would put themselves in harms way for the next one. - delgado
She could always run on the Alaska Secessionist Party, though it'd need to get on the ballot in the other 49 states. - Kevin Fox
She reminds me of Peter Sellers in the Clouseau movies. - Furqan
no way, shes the dan quayle of this campaign oh and recession - adolfo foronda
Good to see the toy companies are helping to train our next generation how to be good little Nazi's, they'll fit right in with the new Police State we're building now. Yay. - Tim
It is a little odd, but (and I can hardly believe I'm defending Sarah Palin) completely irrelevant. Sometimes people slip in and out of accents. I never really "had" a Southern accent, but sometimes I find my self talking that way and even using the second person plural "Ya'll". - (teh)Hussein
It is relevant if she's using the accent to appear more folksy than she really is. She's not an actor on a stage, but a politician, so such things point to a lack of integrity. - Alex "Chameleon" Scoble
It means different things to different people. I do it myself -- having lived in five regions of the US, four of which have distinct accents (NY, Louisiana, Wisconsin, New England) and one that is the melting pot (Calif). When in NY, I tend to talk like a NYer, etc. If I move to Canada after the election I suppose I'll pick up some of their patois. - Dave Hussein Winer
Is this all we have to worry about? For pete's sake! - JMakesAwesomeSauce
This is not new in the UK - Tony Blair notoriously started dropping his 'H's and stopping his 'T's to make him appear more 'the common man'. Now, David Milliband is doing it. - Brendan Cooper

Sen. Clinton did the same thing this past spring. It is annoying and pandering, but, people who want/need to be convinced it is up. When talking to customer services rep, I slip in and out of accents, when I think it was get me what I want. - Faboo Mama
That's not exactly a Maine accent he has. - Clen Gampbell
Yeah...he lived in Texas long enough for it to rub off on him. (Yes, some people really do talk like that in Texas...But NO ONE in the South really talks like Paula Deen...Her accent is so fake and forced, I can't stand her.) - Sean McGee
Sean, there are PLENTY of people who talk like Paula Deen, and even worse too. - Carmen
Carmen....I know...and I bet you, most of those people aren't from the South...They're from parts of the country that really think her accent is authentic. - Sean McGee
Yeah, and those Brits are ALL fakers; no one really talks in that high-falutin' manner. They're just showing off. - Clen Gampbell
Sean, I am from the south. Paula is from my hometown where I was born and raised. I know what I'm talking about. - Carmen
I just watched a video clip of her - that's a pretty strong Southern accent, but my MOM has a stronger one than that. Go spend some time in Mississippi and you'll see what I mean. - Tad - the Meme Maker
Carmen....my bad...I totally mis-read your comment....I thought you said there were plenty of people who LIKE Paula Deen....I missed the word "talk"...She just sounds SO FAKE... - Sean McGee
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Paula fan, but her accent is not fake. Sean, you've obviously never been to south Georgia. Let me take ya there sometime. ;) - Carmen
Carmen...Maybe the problem with her is that in real life, she's worse? And she's really making an effort to talk "all respectable like" and it comes out that way? It sounds really forced. (My dad's boss is from Atlanta, and he has an accent...but not this bad...I guess that's why it's hard to believe) - Sean McGee
There are different degrees of Texas accents, too. Some people have very thick accents while others are milder. Most people I know from Georgia are the same way. - Trish R
Seriously...come visit Jacksonville, FL for some serious Southern accents. As folks are known to say down here...we are closer to Georgia than Florida; and it shows quite often. :-( - JA Castillo
Sean, you need to get out more. And I mean that with the kindest intent. People really do talk like her. There's a wonderful symphony of American dialects from the Northeast, through the South, and across the West. They're not fake; they're not forced. - Clen Gampbell
I have a geeky ghetto accent, so please don't make fun of me. - imabonehead
I know a couple people in SC who are unable to use GM's "OnStar" because the system doesn't understand them... - Mark VandenBerg
Some native Atlantans think they're so southern, but they are nothing compared to the rest of the state. I am one of the few that doesn't have a super strong accent from that south GA. But I have friends and family that my west coast husband cannot understand. I must admit, Paula's level of accent is obnoxious, no matter US accent you have. Plus her flirting and winking and overly-sweet nature is annoying. But there are people JUST like her where I'm from. You see why I live in Atlanta. :) - Carmen
Mark, I believe that, because my family lived in The Netherlands when I was a kid and no one could understand our English or our attempts at Dutch. Also, when I visit Europe (especially French speaking countries), I have a really hard time. I ordered "fruit crepes" once in Brussels and they gave me a fruit cup. - Trish R
Years ago, in Cambodia, sitting in a cafe, drinking beers with a guy from Manchester, another from Atlanta, and yet another from Melbourne, I marveled at how easy it was to follow the accent's progression through time. They all fit together like puzzle pieces. And Rochelle is right; we have no discernible accent in the Pacific Northwest. At least not discernible to anyone living on the West side of the Rockies. - Christopher Harley
Where in Netherlands, Trish? I was born and lived 'til I was 4 just outside Delft in a small farming town. Schipluiden in Sud Holland. - Mark VandenBerg
Mark, we lived in Oostvoorne, a very small village, have you heard of it? - Trish R
Actually think it would be funny if the news story floating around tonight that Palin is taking to NBC to 'mock back' really happens. This could turn out to be a fun election instead of an ugly one - Charlie Anzman
Given your audience, Paul, I'm pretty sure that when given the choice of Palin or X, X will win 99% of the time. - Gabe
How about Palin vs Stalin then? I think Palin would be way better. - Paul Buchheit
I think Stalin would fall into that 1% where Palin wins. Of course, Stalin's dead, so maybe he would do a better job at the moment. - Gabe
I'd say pick Palin. She knows so little about anything it is not likely she'll be able to set the world on fire like Bush was able to do with his foreign policy. And I thought we were the laughing stock when Holland picked our current clumsy, nerdy looking prime minister ;-) - Alexander van Elsas
"McCain is Feylin" so maybe Obama boomaye? - Mrinal Desai
Tina Fey as VP. Then either Stephen Colbert or John Stewart as president. But I'll stick with Obama and Biden. :) - Mike Reynolds
This is the funniest thing I've seen in a long time - Check out the young girl flipping off the little boy, while standing in front of Sarah Palin! :) - Tim
The bailout isn't going to work. It will however transfer lots of citizen assets over to private bankers at our expense. Fuck the bankers and government. - Tim
..and the voting machine fraud continues. You might as well stay the fuck home election day, you won't have much say how the vote turns out anyway. - Tim
