it is totally down tho.. its not even running slow... its just down.. no fail whale for me. i just get a load error message on the page
- Jason Pollock
haven't seen the fail whale in a while - these days it just times out :-/
- Scott Breakall
James... dont even get me started on the search.. that thing has been broken for a while.. even when twitter is working, the search is never effective
- Jason Pollock
i wonder how tweetdeck always works.. even when twitter looks down.
- Jason Pollock
Totally Broken It just went off into hinterland!!!
- Jose Luis Santos
someone on my facebook page just said that twitter didnt pay the bill today... lol
- Jason Pollock
It's dead. Not just a FailWhale, but truly down
- Neal Jansons
the twitter hamsters got out of their cages and they are all running around the factory right now.. Ev and Biz are chasing them around the factory as I type... lol!
- Jason Pollock
Jason, I have a synopsis for a new type of show. What would be the best way to introduce it?
- Rodney Arvid Josephson
rodney, maybe they need astro_mike to come down from space to figure ths situation out.. my twitter is still completely down.. not even a fail whale.. anyone back up yet?
- Jason Pollock
those trending topics are annoying.. i think they are ruining the trending topics section.. its kind of like when facebook did that 25 things list that everyone did.. that was so annoying.. i think that is when facebook "jumped the shark" for me.
- Jason Pollock
Yea! Arrggh! Well, at least FF isn't down (I hope I didn't just jinx it now :P)
- Alexander
i dont think FF will go down.. its too small.
- Jason Pollock
You know, I sent over 40 real messages today on Twitter and had great reviews... the effectiveness of human interaction is the best... But there is too much spam that it gets drowned out...
- Rodney Arvid Josephson
FF has always been very stable, but as you point out, Jason, it has far fewer users
- Scott Breakall
Ok so this is serious down time for Twitter. Wonder what the problem is? Cyber attack?
- Paul Roberts
Jason, where do you live in New York City? Just visited The Village last week... I never realized how beautiful Washington Square Park was...
- Alexander
washington square park is wonderful.. i love it there!
- Jason Pollock
It's the longest thread because it's a fail whale group therapy session....
- Brokers for Charity
hey rob! nice to see u pop up in this thread!
- Jason Pollock
can anyone explain spymaster to me? whats the premise of the game?
- Jason Pollock
Yes...I'm in Twitterfox, and it hasn't refreshed in a good bit!
- Carlton Hackett
Scott: Yup! I'm in the CIA and already have about 150K in assets... don't get any ideas of stealing though!
- Alexander
And Jason -I have to agree with the "who needs twitter when we can have these awesome threads on FriendFeed" - mostly - I think a lot of us still need twitter because it's an excellent link publishing tool to get lots of coverage. I wouldn't dream of not sending links for new blog articles out to twitter. :-)
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Jason: Spymaster is basically a game where you work for the CIA, MI6, or the Russian Federation whatever and you become an agent, go on missions, and spy, etc... It's hard to explain. Go to the website when it's up http://playspymaster.com/
- Alexander
rob, i agree.. twitter has made itself invaluable.. FOR NOW! lol
- Jason Pollock
Jason - I think that twitter's days are seriously numbered. Unless they sell soon. they're going to lose out when the Google Wave really takes off.
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Rob: We'll see Rob! I'm not sure if Google wave can be an effective marketing tool like twitter is.. since its not going to all b public like twitter is right?
- Jason Pollock
they either need to seel soonish or figure out how to deal with their system.. the public will not put up with them forever
- Jason Pollock
It's down... Katy Perry should make a song about this... It's up and it's down, before you spin around, Twitter is back up! Get up and start up... La la la la la......
- Alexander
FriendFeed was looking real good today.. this thread with 120 comments is kinda of blowing my mind, and it's not possible at all in Twitter to do anything like this.
- Jason Pollock
EDIT WITHIN 5 SECONDS OF ORIGINAL COMMENT: It's down again.
- Alexander
Scoble's followers are eager to not egg him on about Twitter I suspect. Gets him riled up talking too much about twitter. lol
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
That does seem to be a situation, when twitter is overloaded, to try and get things together, let's hope they started rebuilding. Or setting up a backup system.
- Ray Marr aka Knatchwa
"Update: We have corrected a fatal software error. The site is back up." - um...then why does every app I'm trying to use that accesses twitter say it's down?
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
I posted here and twitter that Spymaster needs to support friendFeed as well.
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
F*ck that. Spymaster and Flickchart are nothing but the ghost of MySpace come to haunt the modern social web. Just say no!
- Neal Jansons
from IM
im loving this thread! thanks for the gr8 discussion
- Jason Pollock
I like Games. I'm glad Spymaster has cloned the mobwars clones for twitter. at least now I can see for sure if my DMs are gonna come through. Spymaster DMs me tons of stuff.
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Is spymaster kind of like that drug cartel game that was on Facebook where u just collect money to buy guns and drugs?
- Jason Pollock
Yep, I just got back up... down for over an hour for me!
- Douglas Sandquist
Spymaster is a total clone of MobWars/Mobsters/MafiaWars on Myspace/Facebook
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
I like real games...games where the only point is to help a company drag more people into the spam is fun for the company.
- Neal Jansons
from IM
You know why MySpace sucked? All those little "fun" things that made it ugly, useless, and spammy. Now Twitter has gone mainstream, and here come the same people to make sure to exploit it. Seriously, do you want Twitter and Friendfeed to turn into the sad trailer park of the internet that is MySpace? The only way all this social stuff works is if we keep the quality of the content high...
- Neal Jansons
from IM
well I have never used this ur my first
- Gary Greely
Jason - I posted the new Fail Whale image I got when Twitter was down. Here on FF - http://ff.im/3pYs5
- Mike Bracco
and that last comment demonstrates the major difference between friendfeed and twitter.. u can certainly type way more than 140 charaters! lol
- Jason Pollock
my account was re-instated! i have no idea what happened.. i was offline for less than 24hrs! lol.. it must have been some sort of glitch.
- Jason Pollock
Rob: I lost quite a few followers as well - alot of them have been removed either temporarily - due to what appears to be the accounts we're affected by the bug - or for being spammers on twitter ;)
- Nicholas James
From my point of view...same ol same ol; take that as you will :D
- sofarsoShawn
sofarsoSean: Yepperino......So hopefully, these followers will reappear after their accounts get reinstated.
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
well, yesterday used twitter karma, noticed that instead of unfollowing the 400 or so who were not following me, it unfollowed like 800 ppl. Now I cannot get in at all.
- Dawn S. Lambe
@dawn oh really, hmm...haven't unfollowed anyone lately...just a twitter crash I suppose, is it back yet?
- Patty
from twhirl
yeah... I thought it was my adobe, ff notifier, tweet deck, skype, aim, gtalk, windows live, two network devices, amazon order notifier, ms money, itunes, and bytagg running in the background that was causing problems... but no, I am quite sure it is all Twitter's fault! :D
- Sid Burgess
iPhone 3G will not restore - "The iPhone cannot be used with iTunes because the information required for activation could not be obtained from the iPhone. Check that the SIM card is inserted in your iPhone and that it is not PIN-locked." I did, and I even went to AT&T to replace the SIM. Fucked!!!
iphone 1.0 here still. glad i didn't upgrade :)
- Chris Harris
Apple needs to just put up its own towers and have the iPhone on its own network. Its like putting 3rd party ram in a Mac, its nothing but problems :P
- Scott
That SUCKS. So far, my 3G has been working fine. :D
- joey@jwvmods.com
Unlucky man, as Justin pointed out, it may be worth going into an Apple store and see what they say.
- Gaurav Patel
Have you tried DFU mode? I had this happen to me and it was guessed to be a bad sector on the flash drive. Apple will replace it... they did for me.
- Douglas Porter
from twhirl
I've had nothing but problems with the iPhone 3G. Fail!
- Matt Singley
I was considering getting a new iPhone but after this and all the other fiascos...maybe I'll hold out for the new touchscreen BlackBerry.
- RottNKorpse
You've just been the worst case iphone scenario Chris from the beginning.. hope it gets straightened out!
- Eric Gonzalez
Did you do anything *other* than install and remove 3rd party apps on the thing the entire time you've owned it? From what I've witnessed you downloaded and installed every app in the store. Your usage certainly isn't typical. And you really shouldn't be dealing with the AT&T store for an Apple hardware product. For one, the service at Apple is 1000 times better.
- Adam Turetzky
Daamn... Hearing this just makes me NOT want to buy the iPhone any more. It's like the cursed phone. I think you have an isolated problem Chris, because I haven't head of this anywhere else.
- Oliver
You may want to try Leo's fix. Format, start from scratch and then only install Apps from iTunes. Just a suggestion. It worked for most of my friends at school when I told them.
- Zane
One of the things I would do is delete every app you have on the phone (other than what it came with of course) and start over again from scratch. Go little at a time reintroducing the apps to your phone, until you get to the ones that may be causing trouble. As someone else pointed out, you've been downloading and trying out alot of apps. Many of them have proved buggy. Maybe just start over again and don't put apps back for awhile.
- Lisa Lee
force restore, done by holding home button while connecting the USB end of chord to computer. Before doing this make sure your phone is completely off ( press and hold sleep/wake button until you see "slide to power off") You should be prompted "iTunes has detected nameofiPhone in recovery mode and needs to restore" click ok then restore
- Norma
@Cecil - that reminded me of a Starcraft unit..Infested Terran "How may I serve" I half expected to see "FOR THE SWARM" ... @Matrixx333 - I'm sure you're in...not sure who approves this stuff. One heck of a paper trail really.

i don't mind cheating at all. i have cheated. but all these different things also add to a persons ability to "cheat": religion, location, type of culture you live in etc. if i man is allowed to have 5 wives is that considered cheating then? it's not well rounded ....the research project... is all
- Caroline
Every person, individual, has a choice. 'Everything is not black and white' is a load of crap. It's either or. This or that. :)
- Mona Nomura
To me it is. If a man is allowed (and i find that abosolutly wrong since it's not allowed even the other way round) to have 5 wives, it doesn't mean he can't choose to have only one.
- Niki Costantini
That I think everything's black and white? Far from egocentrism, Caroline. :) Fact remains, it's a choice. Monogamy, polygamy, cheating, or not.
- Mona Nomura
there is a reason why few men have chosen to stay away from this thread. but as a dancer for many years i can tell you that just because a guy cheats it doesn't mean he loves you any less. sex CAN be just SEX! just something they feel the need to do. or it can be a very amorous thing... but some men.. good men...cannot have sex unless they are in love and completely trust a women... either way both forms are truly great.
- Caroline
Caroline, you're right, sexy can be just sex for many men (and women), and I can still understand that, but to me respect is always respect
- Niki Costantini
I've bartended at a night club for a few years, been in corporate -- entertainment and IT (Fortune 500's). Doesn't matter who you are, or where you're from. Paid, free, consensual, or not. Cheating is still cheating, Caroline ;)

Allright, everybody, before posting another comment on this, read Mona's last comment. You'll learn something, and not just about love/relationships/sex stuff. EDIT: that makes it the one before last comment (: Mona. you're fast!

Men should be pretty evolved these days, and NOT act out every single urge. Last I checked, they're walking upright--knuckles off the floor. So what if science tells me they have the genetic make up to eff all day and night with lots of different people. He is also an evolved thinking human, no? Take some responsibility and make wise decisions. There are lots of things I CAN do, but don't because they're stupid and would have negative consequences in my life.

Caroline: Says the vows that legally bind two individuals in a marriage... And Anna: exactly!

then vow on your life. when you ignore him because you worked too much and you didn't pay attention to him when he is Finally had enough.. he looks twice at the strip club or a girl in the subway... and i heard 1000x times how she doesn't wanna touch me. or she doesn't pay attention to me. remember my words.

- Anna Haro
But those men have choices, too. Divorce, communication, or therapy. Everything is a choice!
- Mona Nomura
Mona that's it, the answer to this entire thread is...wait for it...COMMUNICATION
- Anna Haro
your looking at things at a female point of view. have you forgotten some men find it hard to communicate these things... we mostly do the talking...
- Caroline
blah...blah...blah...always has to be the guy's fault, eh? pass! lolz
- .LAG liked that
Well, they better learn to communicate. How hard could it be? And that's just not correct.
- Mladen Srdić
No, I know they do, but it's something they have to work at, and women need to learn how to read them as well. We both need to work on better communication with each other.
- Anna Haro
Caroline: I am not looking at it from a female's point of view. I firmly believe it's up to the females to reach out, so the connection is never lost, since females -- like you said, are the talkers.
- Mona Nomura

Is thinking about cheating cheating? Is thinking about being with someone else while intimate with a partner cheating? How about just choosing to spend free time with someone else? And why is it wrong? Is it wrong because it's lying? Is it wrong because it may be dangerous? It isn't black and white. Everyone will answer these questions differently and most people probably don't know their partner's answers.
- ·[▪_▪]·
i remember this guy said a long time ago...it had been so long it is just a void...a void. grand canyon........ your right tho. some women give up. or after the talk. it's just. over?.. but some women have low sex drives too?! right? i dunno i have a pretty hyper one so dunno why...but during the talk then what? hi i ignored you then what? plan? plan for what time? we work too much how to make time etc..
- Caroline
This thread is starting to annoy me. Suddenly, men don't do the talking -- i guess we're back at slamming the females on the back of their heads and drag them away to our caves.
- Mladen Srdić
my take: men are beautifully simple. women are beautifully complex. men are the immovable object. women are the irresistable force. ladies, if you can't figure out the guy you're with, then don't be with him. and, once you figure him out, either accept who he is, warts and all, or leave him. it really could be THAT simple. some guys can communicate. some guys can't. some guys will cheat. some guys won't. i have to put the burden on the so-called better half: ladies, figure it out or get out.
- .LAG liked that
This is exactly the reason why people should choose their partners, wisely. To make sure, the bond is never severed. Otherwise, why get married? And it's not poor guys, Caroline. It's a two way street :). @Nicerobot: Thinking and acting are two very different things, in my opinion. Besides, if you think of cheating, then something is very wrong. But that could be me. As ADD as I may seem, when it comes to personal relationships and feelings, I have a very one track mind ;).
- Mona Nomura
polygamy is not cheating. but anyway, this whole issue is going to take our species a bit more emotional evolution to properly deal with... we're still schizophrenic about it (our social rules do not match our biological rules). but if you want a sneak peek: realize that eternal monogamy is a fantasy and get over it.
- Anthony Citrano
This is why being muslim is the way forward as they are encouraged to marry only one wife but if he gets permission he can marry an additional wife up to a total of four. Correct me if I am wrong!
- Joe Dawson
@mona no no i meant poor guys they want the thread to end and more legos and bacon.
- Caroline
Partners don't need to be chosen wisely. They just need to be given time to learn about each other, thoroughly, no less than a year. This is just too complicated to discuss in this small box. :( My point was just that some people will think that thinking, in that sense, is cheating. This is really easy though, live your life the way you'd like your partner, and everyone else for that matter, to live theirs without imposing your beliefs on them and hope your partner does the same.
- ·[▪_▪]·
Anthony: Just because it's legal, it doesn't make it any different. A polygamist is just legally cheating. :) @Joe: HAHAHHAHAHAH!
- Mona Nomura
Nicerobot: Yes, I agree. Though the fact remains, however which way one tries to sugar coat it. Cheating = cheating, J. :)
- Mona Nomura
People sugar coat cheating? My massive sweet tooth and I must try. :P
- ·[▪_▪]·
Mona I guess we define cheating differently. If everyone's open and honest with one another, I don't get how it's "cheating."
- Anthony Citrano
If you took a vow to be true to that one person, and that one person only, wouldn't you be defying rules? (Given that your'e open and honest) @Nicerobot: =O!!
- Mona Nomura
YES I totally agree with you. If you commit to be monogamous with one person, and you break that while you are still in that commitment, it sure *is* cheating. But polygamous relationships are not monogamous 1:1 commitments. They are commitments between multiple people. No one's cheating so long as they remain within that bond (however many parts it has.)
- Anthony Citrano
So, men cheat because it's genetic, and women cheat because....they want to?
- Slappy Line
I don't buy the argument that men (or women) cheat because of genetics. Sure thousands of years ago it was genetic, but today human beings have a brain capable of analyzing and thinking and deciding on a choice. There is no such thing as "accidentally" cheating either. Cheating is a choice, all those so-called "reasons"; drinking involved (or not), she/he's just a friend (with benefits) or not, these are choices that each individual person makes.

outsanity, it's the instinct. i have it and don't think it looks like the iphone. i love my phone, even though it's hard to do without a ton of apps like i had on my PPC6700.and since it's java based, there's a lot of things that won't work on it. but it's ridiculously fast (i tested both the instinct and the iphone on the same day) and if you're not hung up on silly ibling, you'd be happy with it. but wait until they fixed the sound problem with uploaded videos to youtube. that's annoying.

Backordered? Does that information come from sitting at a Genius Bar & having them try to fix your phone, or from walking up to an Apple dude walking around inside the store & asking if they have any of your model in stock? Huge difference. Apple Stores keep "replacement parts" — which are entire, brand new phones — in stock when the identical "retail" version isn't available. (eg, I fried my 4GB phone & got a brand new one as a "parts replacement" long after Apple discontinued them & moved to 8 & 16.)

panasonic ftw any luminex. only because canon pictures always have this odd yellow-ish tint and the post processing is a PAIN. plus panasonics have this anti-shake feature that is OH so bad ass (and i have a powershot and an xti)
- Mona Nomura
I have to agree with the folks who are pimping the Panasonic Lumix line. I have a Canon XTi, but our point and shoots are all Panasonic Lumix and we're getting great pictures.
- David Thomas
Go with either the Powershot SD870 IS (not the 890) or Panasonic Lumix TZ5. The 870 is smaller but the TZ5 has one sweet zoom range. Both start at 28mm which gives you a bit of a wide angle that no other P&S compacts have which is why I like these two.
- ronin
I have a little SD750 Elph. Fitd in my short pocket & takes amazing quality. You may want soething geekier but I really love the camera.
- shelisrael1
Even the cheapest ones (A590 IS) take good pictures. Canon is good.
- Dillon K. Hoops
I have heard good things about the Canon Powershot G9. But I have the S3 IS and I love it. It does not shoot in the RAW format however. The G9 does.
- Jim Williams
Have a PowerShot Elph SD600 and a S5is. The Elph is great to take anywhere, the S5 is excellent for the "serious" shots.
- Jared B. Luther
Chris, if you go with the 870, which you should, grab it at Costco (kirkland or woodinville). Costco has a great return policy. They give you cash back. Return for any reason.

I have a G9, but they're all good. My wife had a Panasonic Lumix, but dropped it for my old Ixus (Elph or SD depending on market). The G9 is great if you want RAW images to get the best quality, but it's big, heavy and expensive, so not the best option if you don't care about RAW and full manual control.

- Mona Nomura
John, it's more like "Do I look like I'm taking up too many pixels?"
- Mona Nomura
Mona, you are becoming the only person I know whom I can recognize by midriff alone.
- Michael W. May
mwm: i'm not sure if that's a good thing..... but my tattoo is an awesome conversation starter
- Mona Nomura
I'm just saying, most of your readily accessible pics feature an obscured face and a midriff :P
- Michael W. May
oh, you may be correct. i keep forgetting FFers don't know me in real life
- Mona Nomura
john s: I don't think mona was posting her tat picture because of any insecurities! ;)
- edythe
Mona: You are a markup dork who posts "keming" jokes. I think I like you.
- Roger Benningfield
sometimes i post stuff w/out thinking... and this is a good example =\
- Mona Nomura
Roger: That tattoo is used as a pick up line a lot. The markup reference is now going to set the standard. If the other person understands I'll go on conversing ;) I think you're awesome too btw
- Mona Nomura
Ouch. I only do the temporary kinds.
- l0ckergn0me
I couldn't resist 1. rising MOON sign of the planet 2. URANUS, *and* 3. it's mark up.
