It doesn't hit you'll come to care about their leader and warriors. The original Khan is dead and a son leads the empire. The horde has ransacked and destroyed much from Asia to Europe. Crusaders and knights, remnants of once large and proud orders, struggle to fight back and slow the Mongol onslaught. This sets the scene for both main plot lines. What drew me to this book was discovering the Clang Kickstarter project. The project aims to bring realistic sword fighting to media in all forms, starting with video games.
