It's nice and kind of heartwarming to read about the experience and history of the "brave old men and women" being appreciated by today's people.
- Tomas Rollo
Friendfeed, but in terms of everyday day-to-day usage than 'iPhone apps' are far more frequent than Friendfeed (though that probably doesn't count).
- Andrew Leyden
tripit is my favorite as well as Twitter. used twitter back in '07 but didn't have a need until I lost my job at Yahoo! in Feb. '08
- Randy Ksar
from twhirl
Everything (except for YouTube, Flickr, SU and Digg...the "old" stuff). I went from Blogger to WP in January, had special words for people who used Twitter.
- Admiral Anika
Liking even though I was already using FF in 2007 and still my fave in 2008 :)
- Mark Krynsky
I also started using Twitter in 2008, to be honest. And Mint.com.
- Louis Gray
Louis: I disagree. FriendFeed was born October 1, 2007 and didn't get popular, according to Compete.com until mid year this year. Yeah, I guess if you put rule that it must have been born in 2008 then you gotta exclude it.
- Robert Scoble
oct 1st...good day that is! :o) my birthday.
- Rob Sellen :o)
Twitter, on other hand, was quite popular at beginning of 2008. It was born in 2006, so definitely should be excluded from such a list.
- Robert Scoble
Louis: good point. but I'm changing the rules for my own post. :-)
- Robert Scoble
twitter, friendfeed & my own askmarkets :P
- George Tziralis
I have to agree on Qik. I haven't had the time to use it a lot but its a very uber app. Friendfeed is a great place to get all the info you want or not want. The other app for me is not really an app but Google Reader. I never knew the joys of an RSS Reader until I tried Google Reader. I am in love now...
- Andy Breeding
Yammer for collaboration, Chitika Premium for monetization, Amazon EC2 for infrastructure, Mint.com, Netflix
- Alden DoRosario
FRIENDFEED - really the "BEST" ever service of my entire online experience...amazing .... Ok shifting gears... going over to Scobles' post now...
- Susan Beebe
Dropbox, without a doubt. Qik should certainly be on there. I might also go with Spotify (you should check that out!) However, I've been using both TripIt (not frequently) and FriendFeed since before 2008 so can't go with those.
- Brandon Titus
late response, but definitely FriendFeed....VERY cool.
- Moushumi Kabir
Pretty much everything that I'm using now: FF, Twine, socialmedian, GReader, PostRank. In 2007 I only started with Digg and SU.
- Kol Tregaskes
Mine was C-64, still remember wondering about what's the big grey box other's have next to their monitors, not knowing that was actually the computer itself
- Tomas Rollo
Our big grey box was the power supply!

A new 20% worktime project making it large or the next strategic step of Google after Google Chrome for getting wired as deep into the OS stack as possible?

I like the choco-vanilla swirl. One of my summer jobs back in the day was cleaning out the machine. I was one of the chosen few who could take it apart and put it back together. Free ice cream, what?
- Derrick
I haven't seenany other flavour than the default white.
- Andrew Trinh
i got your 32mm frosty right here baby!
- Morgan Haley
Wow. They're bigger than the $2 desserts at Hungry Jack's.
- Larry Hudson
I want to see her fit that all in her mouth at once. Like Madonna's bottle trick in Truth or Dare. Who's with me?
- tinypants - Hagitha of FF
I looooooove the chocolate-vanilla twist cones. I miss when Hardee's (aka Carl Jr) used to have those. Now they have stupid Hershey regular (hard) ice cream. Grumpgrumpgrump!
- Ladybug Heather
We have a Foster's Freeze down the road from our house. It is literally the only place in town for a proper soft-serve cone (McDonald's? Bleh). I'm still a massive fan of the choc-vanilla twist dip cone. :)
- tinypants - Hagitha of FF
I saw that too... almost a direct copy huh?!
- Susan Beebe
blAhh, everything's influenced by something. Nothing is "original" anymore. Internet use to be sneakernet... and so on. ;)

Nice post. I didn't realize the iphone couldn't do turn-by-turn directions. I use that feature on my N95 all the time on vacations and at home, since I just moved.
- Mr. Gunn
I find I really miss this on any other touch screen device now. My girlfriend's Garmin satnav seems incredibly clunky by comparison to my iPod Touch
- Graeme Shaw
Yes, I've gotten used to pinching over the last couple of months on the iPhone. With potentially 48GB on board, Carl-Zeiss optics, 2 x LED flashes, video-recording capability, 5MP camera...the Nokia N97 makes up in other areas 8-)
- Arnold Aranez
If Nokia don't mess this up with a poor real-use battery life and awful firmware at launch (like they often do) I'm tempted to get a second phjone contract for this. Okay, that'd be a bit stupid but it's amazing what phonelust can do!
- Martin Bryant
It's still S60. Would have to redo the OS for touch. Tacking it on always sucks.
- Rodfather
It's not just pinching, there are some interesting apps you can write for multitouch.
- Loren Heiny
I'm still getting used to the pinch cause it doesn't always pick them up for me
- alphaxion
Any idea whether the touch display is capacitive or resistive? I'd say the latter, since on the Nokia's video the person uses fingernail.
- Tomas Rollo
BB Storm had that limitation too - huge NO for me. I love the multi-touch on iPhone!! Arnold does make some good points - those Nokia specs are hawt!!
- Susan Beebe
Awesome specs, fairly sexy design, *but* old mobile device philosophy that will lead to Nokia losing more market share.
- mikepk
ahh, they probably just need to bring it out... <cough> like the G1. Don't want to be called a "copy cat" immediately.
