This took about 1.5 hours. It was easier because I was working from a black & white photograph. I find Caucasian faces easier to draw than Asian faces because the features tend to be more pronounced / less flat -- more shadows and highlights to work with.
- Jess Lee
I've been pretending that I could learn to draw. Even dabbling at doodling. Your portrait reminds me that it takes talent which you obviously have in spades. Great job.
- Seek Ground
they have sooo many other avenues to produce income. why that? they need to be more creative.

I wonder how they put them on iGoogle. Honestly, though, a couple half banners surrounding the logo wouldn't really bother me. Everyone's got the right to earn a few billion more. :)
- felix
Scoble - don't you hate it when a site gets loaded down with ads? Even after the person said they wouldn't run them?
- Dave Hodson
If the display ads from google are every bit as intelligent as the link ads, they'll be fine. I'm disappointed by how this will likely effect the page load times on Google (which are the primary reason I use Google over Yahoo or MSN anyway)
- Adam Posey
lets see how this *pushing envelope* ends up... I guess this is classical case of big company taken over by mediocrity step by step, described so many times that it should be recognized without effort
- A.T.
I guess it was only a matter of time... As long as it's unobtrusive in terms of pageload &&,|| client-side processing I'm fine with it. Could probably add rule(s) to ipfw...
- RandaL Hicks
the display ads might be put on Google image search which is all about images anyway, not main .com text homepage
- Kevin Gough
If Google manages to get advertisers to clean up their act and create ads that don't slow down/break web pages, then everyone wins. If they let the same ads run on Google that run everywhere else, then Google loses bigtime.
- Jason Wehmhoener
Personally, I think the article is trying to stir up unfounded attention. It talks about display ads in general raking in cash for Google, but then the quote from the Google rep talks about ads in image search only. If that's the case, what is the big deal?
- Jason Dettbarn
Agree w @Jason and add that people had the same sort of reaction when text ads were introduced. It's not like you're going to wake up one day and it's going to look like the old TW Pathfinder site.
- Erik Dafforn
I'm not sure how I feel about this...I mean, if Google can display ads that are in fact relevant to me, then I might be interested. I also think that while this idea does suck - it is important to remember what Google is...a public company that has to make profit. Sometimes I have a hard time understanding where all their money comes from....(i.e. who clicks on all those ads anyway?)
- Elliott
I also agree with @Jason. The reference to Google.com is like saying "Google.com properties" - (i.e. Image Search).
- Elliott
Is Google trying to be the next Yahoo!? Do not like.
- darnell
All the street sees is Yahoo revenue coming from search advertising. All the great apps like Pipes don't make a dime for Yahoo. That's why the street doesn't care and probably shouldn't. Yang & the rest have failed to justify the value of most of the non-search related portions of Yahoo.
- Kevin D. White
I agree--they need to get their house in order and fight, fight, fight! Their #1 in traffic FGS!
- Paul Salzman
The street is too emotional. The mood swings are fun to watch. Next week they'll be holding hands with Yahoo in the park.
- Bwana ☠
I am sorry to hear that Rafe! I send my thoughts and well wishes.
- Maurice Draggon
Condolences, in man years our cat is now 95 ...via AlertThingy
- paul terry walhus
I'm very sorry. I know how you feel man.
- terry radford
I'm really sorry to hear about your cat. We had to put our family cat to sleep a few weeks ago. It hurts even when you know it's for the best.
- Mary Reagan
Ugh, I've done this too before, my friend. They become just another member of the family.
- BrandonS
Sorry for your loss, Rafe. ...via twhirl
- Mike Lewis
You may lose some of your extensions. They don't all work with 3.0 at this point.
- terry radford
Wait for 3.0 RC1. I'm beta testing B5. Getting better each week!
- Charlie Anzman
I overwrote my old version. Then reloaded everything to get my extensions back. I think there is a way to run both versions. I just moved back to Version 2
- terry radford
this is the stupidest design change I have ever seen in my life. FORD is a brand people trust. The logo looks like a supermarket chicken company or worse. Pathetic.
- Noah David Simon
Ha! I was totally fooled. Mainly by the execution - the detail and different forms of the logo were so convincing :)
- Bret Taylor
ford should never change there logo, they should work on more hybrids and energy efficient vehicles...
- Kyle Weller
The best April fools day jokes are (1) the ones that aren't recognized as being jokes and (2) the ones that could be for real, but nobody's sure (think Gmail-announcement)
- sebmos
Gmail April fools 'announcements' are well recognized as such (at least by me)
- Dmitriy Kopylenko
Then you probably forgot that Gmail was announced on April 1st 2004 and was initially considered a April fools day joke.
- sebmos
yikes, not sure how I feel about that thing
- Chris Jones
Well, at least I got to know a pretty interesting website.
- Rodrigo Jaroszewski
I think most companies should never change the logo. A logo tells when the company was started. Not to mention not changing solves the problem of rebranding.
- Nicholas Helke
Very corporate. The logo used to say "Hey look, every car personally signed by Henry Ford" even if it wasn't. This suggested new one says "Each car personally ignored by up to 200 people"
- Slippy "WildBeard" Lane
April fools, but a GREAT website nonetheless. I just found it recently and find it very interesting.
- Vince DeGeorge
apart april fool part, who cares about Ford nowadays? i thought Ford ceased to be car company since it became brand company ;) and, in general, brand stands for "sales when you do crap and can't win competition in your business" ;)
- A.T.
Hey I hate fords as much as the best of you... but the Ford Focus ST is super fun to drive! I like this new logo, as it reminds me of the Forum Snowboards Logo! (its prob an april fools anyway)
- Jez Arnold
Why risking a new logo when EVERYBODY knows the current one?
- Charles Nadeau
I love FORD. I thought the Taurus in the 90's was a trendsetter that everyone in the industry took que on. This Rebranding won't work though
- Noah David Simon
It's a lot less iconic than the original. A lot more boring. Ooooh, infinity. Sigh.
- felix
Thank goodness that was a joke because the new logo would have been hideous...
- Emily Miller
It's funny how logo changes almost always invoke feelings of negativity. Some brands often carry emotional attachment with individuals that when changed will always draw criticism. Almost every new logo I see has me going WTF...but then I get used to it. Same with this one. Every time I look at this one I think facebook!
- Phil Ashman
The eye is drawn to the top of the logo not the word ford = bad design
- Mitch Baldwin
Mitch, I agree. Also there's a nasty visual artifact where the f's crossbar meets its vertical stroke.
- Phillip Kast
that is a seriously ugly logo... IMHO. :)
- vanessa
Eww! They can stick with what they've already got if that's the case.
- Corvida
omg that is awful . . . looks like a Comfort/Sleep Inn logo
- Jeremy Raines
It's not that bad. Actually, they might even end up using it. ;)
- Daniel Schildt
I was thinking about the logo of Facebook when looking at the new logo
- Tina K.J
it looks like an A they cropped wrong. I give it a D
- Jason
looks like the old Finnair's logo to me. ACtually, I got confused. It looks more like the logo of the Italian public train service. See it at http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki...
- Davide D'Incau
Wow, 6 days later and still getting comments. Bret gets the prize for "most discussed link to an april fools 'gag'"
- Slippy "WildBeard" Lane
