"The Republic of Iceland (en-us-Iceland.ogg /ˈaɪslənd/ (help·info)) (Icelandic: Ísland or Lýðveldið Ísland (names of Iceland); IPA: [ˈislant]), is an island country located in the North Atlantic Ocean.[2] It has a population of about 320,000 and a total area of 103,000 km².[3] Its capital and largest city is Reykjavík. Located on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, Iceland is volcanically and geologically active on a large scale; this defines the landscape. The interior mainly consists of a plateau characterised by sand fields, mountains and glaciers, while many big glacial rivers flow to the sea through the lowlands. Warmed by the Gulf Stream, Iceland has a temperate climate relative to its latitude and provides a habitable environment and nature."

I would love to go to Fårö, the island above Gotland in Sweden, where Ingmar Bergman used to live. I'm dreaming of it already for 20 years now. But I'm afraid I'm having too much trouble with homesickness (& I also don't dare to fly :-()

The Faroe Islands (different to Fårö) are similarly interesting. Found when looking at the Wikipedia entry for Fårö http://friendfeed.com/travell...

Btw: I went to Åland once. Group of islands inbetween Sweden & Finland. 6.500 Islands. I never got further than the harbour because of my never lasting problem with being away from home. But at least I came to realise that the long journey was worth it, although I stayed there for just 2 nights (= 1 full day). I'd love to go back there again.
