I will buy a 3G iPhone. Most definitely. The #1 thing I do on my iPhone is participate in the Web, and having a faster one will be worth the expense. - Robert Scoble
Sorry, I won't be getting an iPhone now either. I didn't get one when they first came out and still not getting one. Maybe if someone wants to send me one to demo/test and write about I might be more inclined to consider the phone. - Paul W. Swansen
Yes unfortunately I will! But I actually might be saving $$, my AT&T plan is really high right now AND I get a 12% discount. Not sure if I'll get that when I get a new contract...I'll be going to an Apple store, not AT&T so I'm not sure they can make the same deals. - Kat
I currently have Verizon and a AT&T account. I have a Blackberry Curve as my phone right now with AT&T but I only use it for texting and email. Web surfing on the BB is not very good. I am getting the iPhone 3G to try and replace my BB for those needs as well as web surfing. The one thing I am pissed about is the text messaging is not included with the unlimited data plan so that's an extra $20 for that. Good thing I get 15% discount on my rate plan. - Andy Breeding
I took a wait and see attitude with the first release: I patiently waited a whole two days! Probably do the same this time. The link Scoble posted was about the Canadian iPhone release, though. I'd probably think about it a while if I was there. - Tom Landini
Like hell it will. ;-) - Tris Hussey via twhirl
Nope not getting an iPhone. The author underestimates the power of an affordable, unlimited data plan that comes with the Instinct. Time will tell - Shey
Yes, count me in too! - Larry Kless via twhirl
I'll be hanging on to what I have. The iPhone didn't impress me the first time around. After what I went through with AT&T the last time, I'll never use them again. - Candace Holly
The bad thing is that I just broke my iPhone 2G bought in California (and jailbreaked) so I'll have to do something, but I don't know if I'll buy a new iPhone 3G; it's ridiculously expensive in Canada. - fbrunel
I'm getting this - not sure what the reason for getting the new iPhone will be if I have this: http://www.rfwel.com/shop/prod... - Jesse Stay
I dropped my 2g iphone a couple times and had to do the HW unlock the first time, so scratched the case a bit. I will probably end up getting the new one as I am really annoyed with the speed as well while on edge. Anyone interested in buying Ireland's 1st unlocked iPhone :) - simonpure
er, that was supposed to be, "I'm getting the cell phone hotspot (in the link)". Not to mention I get to stay on T-Mobile if I do! - Jesse Stay via twhirl
Wanna bet? ;-) - Jody Carbone
I'm considering getting an iPhone... I was 100% on-board, but Rogers' plans for it are dreadful, so I'm just a "maybe" now. Very disappointing. - Dave Fleet via twhirl
Italian plans aren't much better. Vodafone is giving 500mb x month and 900 minutes / txt messages for 99 EUROs. Don't know yet about the other carrier (TIM). :( - Simone
IPod Touch, yes. iPhone, no. I'll keep my BlackBerry for now. I had AT&T as a wireless provider once before, and I don't want to go through that again. - Harvey Simmons
best thing that ever happened to my combs was my iPhone. the faster the better :0 - Tim Aldiss
cone to think of it it's the best thing that ever happened to my 4 yr olds comms ;) - Tim Aldiss
Me? Apple? NO - silpol
nope... my N95 8GB still beats it in more ways than one. And, I'm lucky enough to have an "Old Blue" plan with inexpensive unlimited data on ATTWS. - thecolor
I won't even consider replacing my 1st gen iPhone until 3G is available in my area. By that time, the iPhone might be available through other vendors -- which would be a good thing for consumers. - Chris Baskind via feedalizr
Robert, you know my feelings about this one...keyboard, keyboard, keyboard. show the accessory, make it work WELL, and I'll show at&t the money. - Andrew Feinberg
Reminds me of the mantra of the Borg - Resistance is futile! Yep it is. - Roberto Bonini
I'm not getting a new iPhone because if the Gen 1 that I have works I want to save the $ boost in the actual plan if I can. - Tony
Only if you're buying - Adrienne Van Houten
Canadians are not happy ,, no unlimited data from Rogers http://www.iphonebuzz.com/roge... - fotographic
No, because I will not sign another contract with AT&T. I want my freedom from them. - Gerard Barberi via twhirl
going to party inline at the Thousand Oaks Apple store next Fri. AM. Join us! - Mark Sylvester
no I won't. And my blackberry is already ordered :-P - Marcos Marado
I've an eeePC with a mobile broadband adaptor. Works brilliantly for portable web. - David Sim
I live in Canada and I am *not* happy. Rogers is asking for a 3 yr contract and doesn't even order unilimted data for the high priced plans!!! They are taking both consumers and Apple for a royal ride eh? - Kamath via twhirl
Can't afford one. More specifically, things I want or need more keep taking priority over one. I guess it helps that I'm never more than five minutes away from an Internet-connected computer, and don't like monthly fees. - Garrett Guillotte
AT&T doesn't support 3G in my area, so I can forget it - Randy via twhirl
As soon as it works on Verizon. AT&T doesn't work in my parents house in Ohio. - Mitchell Tsai
I'm in India and it will be here probably next year for like $1000.. Forget it. - Muthu Ramadoss
I was going to until I read about Android and the barcode scanner. It may be a way off but this recession isn't going anywhere fast. And I know I can use that function everyday to search for the best deal and make whatever joint I'm in match or beat it if they want my business. Empowering. And AT&T just isn't offering a competitive plan. Plus, we have winter here and touch screens aren't charming in the winter. I can wait and will for a superior value. - Boo

"TweetDeck offers four major columns in which to organize Twitter data: "All Tweets", essentially your friends' timeline, "Replies", showing replies to you, the equivalent of Twitter's replies tab, "Search", which will keep a running search window open for a term you've selected, and "Group", which lets you make a sub-set of those you follow on Twitter, and make a miniature timeline" [This seems like a hardcore Twitter tool. Lots of windows and activity. Seems to occupy an entire screen.] - Bwana McCall via Bookmarklet
"The recent strain at Twitter has resulted in the service reducing the number of API calls developers can make to get Twitter updates, and there, TweetDeck has you covered as well, so you learn if there's any slowness, where to lay the blame" [This alone has reduced my faith in Twitter apps to zero. The apps can only be as good as Twitter's API. It's current state is ridiculous. ] - Bwana McCall
"While Jesse Stay and others have said Twitter's major issues have decimated the developer community's efforts around Twitter, there are still some looking to innovate, TweetDeck being a good example" [I hope for their sake that Twitter gets their act together. I would hate to see such an effort go to waste.] - Bwana McCall
None of it will be wasted effort. Because a smart developer will see the larger vision of microblogging incl things like FF and identi.ca - Tris Hussey via twhirl
Bwana, I still think there will be innovation, I just know a lot of frustrated developers and it can't last long if it's taking time and effort. I was simply sharing some real life examples of developers leaving the platform because of this. Truthfully, I'm actually developing my own Twitter apps on the side - you better believe that the non-Twitter systems are on the back of my mind, and will be a backup though. I could pull away from Twitter at any time, and I'm sure they could as well. - Jesse Stay
TweetDeck is the #1 trending topic on Summize. I love it. http://www.summize.com - Louis Gray
Of course it is :) I'm only getting female replies. Naah ... must be me ... - Charlie Anzman
Been using this a few minutes now - I like it a lot. I'm one of those people who subscribes to hundreds and hundreds of tweets -- more than I can possibly keep up with. I had a special, sooperseekrit account for following RL friends and other accounts for whom I didn't want to miss a tweet. This is a more elegant solution. - Mitch Wagner

I would say blogging, because I count micro-blogging as just a subset of blogging. Meaning...I have really made no choice at all. I still get to do both :) - Rahsheen Porter
Does FF participation count as micro-blogging? I participate in FF a lot more than my blog now. More convenient, easier to start a conversation and keep it going. No self-imposed timetable or post quota to keep up with to make sure enough people are interested in being part of my "audience" (it's built in with FF). Easier to interact with people and get more interaction back. Easier to find the answers to my questions. FF does all I really wanted out of blogging anyway. - Lindsay Donaghe

a page shows say, 30 entries, between two refreshes, say there's 2000 new entries by friends and friends of friends... you see what I mean? - directeur via NoiseRiver
We need some way to lens ACROSS content, to view things based on value / ranking / medium, etc. Already there's more content in even my shallow feed than I can comfortably follow, and few of my friends even use FF. - Alexander Williams via NoiseRiver
Good point. We'll need to use the best of day not only for the friends we follow but other portions of the population - Julian Baldwin
One word: BLOCK ;) - Mona N
I expect we'll see more than you realize. Likes and Comments keep stuff bouncing to the top until you get a chance to see it. - Hutch Carpenter
I'm liking and commenting just to bounce ya twice. ;) - Tad Donaghe
Best guess is that hyper growth is already being foreseen with numerous solutions. These guys are good! - Charlie Anzman
only if you subscribe to everybody under the sun. I'm sure scoble aleady has that problem here and on twitter - Brett Kelly
Block and Hide aren't nearly good enough for the things I want to do when updates hit several tens per second. I, really, want things like Boolean filters of near arbitrary complexity, feedback learning, and flexible presentation ranking, just to stay sane. - Alexander Williams via NoiseRiver
I'm telling you guys - Lindsay totally pegged it. FF is the site that just DEMANDS an Intelligent Agent to sift through the volcanic soil to expose the rough diamonds. If the FF devs have half a brain, they have a genius or two slaving away on that right now. - Tad Donaghe
I agree, lots of stuff falls through the cracks through out the day. I think the 'best of' was added for this reason. I haven't really used it that much though. - Tsega D
but all the good stuff is reshared... personally my eyes are trained to scan content quickly and efficiently. it weeds out what i'm interested in and not. if all else fails, there's always the "BLOCK" or "HIDE" options... - Mona N
Resharing is data-cluttering, as I see it. I want a system that unifies references to URLs, for one. It tells me where that reference is made from (Rooms, friends, likes, whatnot), but only gives me a single thing to look out for any given referent. The actual rest of info is just useful metadata for building lenses out of. - Alexander Williams via NoiseRiver
You ask the wrong question with your prediction my multi-lingual friend -- the question is not whether we will see too much, but whether we will see enough? FriendFeed (with or without NoiseRiver) is an extremely good model for seeing "enough". NoiseRiver will allow the "noise lovers" to see even more :-) - Robert Seidman
As more people join, simply being good at managing who you follow will be more important and should keep the noise down. - Martin Bryant
Surely people like Robert Scoble are already at that level, he manages fine! - Joe Dawson
@directeur: That reminds me. FF devs, please give us an option to set how many entries we want to see per page. (And to anticipate the replies, *without* Greasemonkey. :) - Cyvros/fyc
Joe's right. Bring it on! - Robert Scoble
Especially if one uses small screens and apps like twhirl to view the feed... - Henk de Kruyff via twhirl
We'll just need a CloseFriendFinder app to sit on top of FriendFinder - Craig Thomler
I don't see the problem if there is the right method to represent the contnet, in a away that the fruition of it by the user would be easier... - Edoardo Piccolotto via twhirl
Yes. There is the potential for much more clutter here than twitter, for example. FF needs enhanced filtering tools. - Ian Fogg
It's already happening for me. Need tags. Plus likes and comments only go so far. What if I like stuff only a few others like? How do I find that? - Larry Huffman
if more of my friends were on FF I wouldn't be subscribed to so many people I don't know - Samuel Bostock
the average user isn't going to be subscribed to that many people. and the mainstream will be much less "active" in terms of generating content than the hardcore early adopters. In short, I don't buy the argument. - Jamie
The average user doesn't use the majority of features present on mobile phones. In Portugal owning a expensive phone is a status statement, but most of them could use the cheapest mobile in term of features used. With software and web services it's the same, people use just a subset of the features, and they have to be in front of them. Power users and all it's likes and dislikes are useful to test the limits of a application, but besides that are not the voice of God. - Mário Pires
This is where the top posts of the day/week/month will come into play. I sure that someone will comment or like a post before it flits away. It does bear consideration though, put some brakes on the speed of posting perhaps? - Mathew A. Koeneker via fftogo
Maybe a combo of FriendFeed and Digg? people could set to only receive posts with X number of likes/comments...or based on the rep of the person posting... - Craig Thomler
If i could create "groups" of people by subjects relevant to me perhaps it would be more manageable. - Mário Pires
so there will be meta services (think summize). Cool. no problemo. - john conroy
Just look at the Everyone feed. Only imagine articles with 1,000 likes (ala Digg) and 500 comments (ala slashdot). Some people may want the raw feeds, we'll need new filters/views/trails/signposts/guides/topics etc... - Mitchell Tsai
@Mario Agree. GM script for Friends / Groups http://ffapps.com/filters/ - Hao Chen
I think we'll just end up hiding a lot more stuff - Shey
I have the feeling that the FF staff will roll with the punches. Scalability! - (steve isaacs)
@Robert Scoble: you WON'T be able to manage that noise. It's simply a mathematical fact. Say, you see 30 post, and between two refreshes, 20.000 entries are posted. The next page will show the last 30 of these 20.000 new entries. You will miss the entries in between. Liking or commenting from FOAF won't help. Because the flow will run... fast. - directeur via NoiseRiver

Love Google Reader. I end up with both news and insights that I never would have gotten anywhere else. - BISQ
I can't seem to get away from Google Reader. There's so much interesting stuff in it that haven't been shared to Friendfeed yet. With Toluu, I'm finding more and more things that I like, and just haven't made their rounds on Friendfeed. - Mark Trapp
I had been neglecting my Google Reader, lots of actual reading to catch up on. - Kevin Cuneo
Google Reader is my everyday start. - Hakan Dahlstrom
I feel like if I don't listen to NPR in the monring I miss the news all together. If I just read the things i see on FF or Twitter I get a whole lot of random web news but not much whole world news. - Whit Scott via twhirl
I always read through Google reader before coming to FriendFeed in the morning. - Louis Gray
I read everything through Google Reader. - Josue Sanchez
Back and forth between the two. - Andrew Smith
Google Reader seems to offer me more control over what I see. Also -- much more variety. FriendFeed offers a wider range of subjects. (Content developers don't need to subscribe to FriendFeed.) Plus -- anything Google I am a fan of. - Charles Barthold
Absolutely. FriendFeed has a bit of a swiss army knife feel to it at the moment, with lots of folks trying to using it to replace a bunch of specialized tools like feed readers, forums/threaded comment systems, IM, etc. - Ken Sheppardson
FF has really cut into my feed reading time. I need to rebalance, too. - Harvey Simmons
yeah FF is just grabbing more and more of my attention - Stefan Hayden
Exactly. Feedfeed is great catching trends but I learn more from my regular readings in Google Reader. - Leon Ho
I used to hit FeedDemon in the morning after email, but now Snackr and Netvibes (thanks to Marshall Kirkpatrick's suggestion) let me get the quick hits and news. I glance at FriendFeed via Twhirl as it ticks by just to see what's up. - Tris Hussey via NoiseRiver
Yeah, but I don't necessarily agree that it is Google Reader as much as it's an RSS reader of your choice, with my choice being NetNewsWire. - Andru Edwards
There's something about seeing the full text of an item that makes reading feeds much more satisfying (and more efficient, because here in FF I have to click on interesting headlines and wait for the item to load to read it). - Robert Scoble
Google Reader all the way. - Andrew Ruess
Actually, at this point I prefer SocialMedian - it gives me a fast view w/ summaries - Lucretia Pruitt
What is it about FF that makes it addictive - that (1) people like it (2) but they still think they are using it too much? Maybe other social media startups need to figure out what the FriendFeed-juice is? - Mitchell Tsai
The key to Google Reader is balancing volume with quality. I'd rather follow many feeds that have only a few entries per day than those that have dozens. - Georg
I am using a mixture of FF/Google Reader and Netvibes - riaz
Feedly is quite nice when I can get it to work through my corp proxy. - Greg
Yes, this is why I really like the practice of using the "Share with a note" feature in Google Reader to quote a relevant part from the original content so that it can appear as a summary comment here on FF - Vlado Handziski
I moved all my RSS reads to Feedly. It's foundation is Google Reader, but served up in a magazine format. I can get through it in less than half the time as directly through GR. - Bob Finch
Google reader, for sure. I like FF for the random stuff it throws at me that I can follow up on somewhere else, but I need Google to feel caught up on the things I need. - K Welch
Good lord, Robert -- I never left Google Reader. GR is vastly more efficient for processing news feeds than Friendfeed. With a few tweaks, FF could bring itself up the level of GR, but so far we haven't seen much feedback from FF developers regarding these suggestions. My lead folder in GR is a stream of pure gold with no dross or distracting trivia. - Sean McBride
FriendFeed is more about specific people. Google Reader is more about feeds in general. We all need to balance the specific and the general. - Mike Abundo
Would you rather have a sandwich or a snickers bar for lunch? I love the snickers bar, but most days I will definitely choose the sandwich, if I must choose. - J. Phil
I'm a netvibes man, it enables me to peruse 90+ article titles on one page/tab and I have 7 tabs. The sharing option on Google Reader makes me jealous though. - Toby Graham
For me, FF is good for tech geek stuff, but my GReader is much more science focused so I balance the two probably more in favour of GReader atm - Sally Church
At one time, I tried reading all my feeds through FriendFeed, but quickly returned to Google Reader...they serve different purposes. - Chris Rossini
Feedly is quite nice - LPH
I've never stopped reading in my RSS reader (spoonfeedr.com). FriendFeed is much more manageable there than on their website. - Sam Pullara
I second BSCQ - Martin Liechti via fftogo
Starting to use Feedly rather than GReader - it's perfect, stops me reading so many articles without being boring. I looooove it! - Richard Bradshaw
I find that I read articles on FF that don't show up in Google Reader and everything else in Reader. - Roberto Bonini
Totally. Plus I have full text and robust filing systems. - Steve Rubel via fftogo
Pretty surprised that you even considered ditching a newsreader to begin with. Sure you're feeling ok? - David Chartier
Google reader is my main RSS feed reader. I'm totally addicted. I just added Feedly and now I get recommeded feeds which add another dimension of social news aggregation. - Larry Kless via twhirl
I spend quality time in Google Reader. Try Feedly. It displays your Google subscriptions nicely. - Michael Tefft
Feedly & FriendFeed are the ticket, gReader alone seems like a one sided conversation. - Roger Penguino
Yes. I find myself scanning FF for blog posts. - Andy C
I'm all about the netvibes: www.netvibes.com/kdoohan - Kevin Doohan
I honestly don't know what I did before Reader. It is the best thing out there for me, for sure. Plus I can use it on my phone! - Ann Coleman
I can't stand gReader's inability to start FF-style "conversations" around shared items. And I can't convince my gReader buddies to move over to FF :( - Jake
I've abandoned Google Reader and all RSS Readers at this point. Traditional RSS readers are dead as far as I'm concerned. Social filters are much better at delivering content than RSS readers. Every second spent in an RSS reader is a second spent away from a socially filtered news and information experience. - Thomas Hawk
Thomas Hawk: I think that you are right. This is why all RSS readers have evolved towards social filters. Let's not forget that Google Reader invented the concept of shared feeds. - Edwin Khodabakchian
If you subscribe to the right feeds and blogs, you get a better perspective on the topics you care about. That's something that these services can quite do it as good as a feed reader. - Jay Cruz
did You try Feedly? It works with GReader, great! - Luca Conti
Its like reading a newspaper and talking about it. One won't replace the other, so I'm happy with the serious Google Reader _and_ the friendly cosy FF. Thanks to "best of day" I can balance the time spent with both. Not sure I want one app to rule them all :) for now, a mix of GR and FF is quite ok. - Dani Radu
I'll have to give feedly another look, but lately I've been subscribing to my FF RSS feed in gReader, so almost best of both worlds in one - nick carrasco
Hey now that you're reading feeds again, how about doing a shared item feed just for new tech products, or features of tech products, or reviews of tech products, even ones that aren't new. I promise I'll use the feed and give you credit of course. I'm going to ask Marshall to do one too (I bet he already does). - Dave Winer
I jump between the two anyway, I wouldn't abandon one over the other as they both have many plus points!! - Joe Dawson
yes, deep breath. as awesome as friendfeed is, it's not going to replace google reader, it's not going to replace twitter, it's not going to replace _______ . it makes all these services more useful, but you need a starting point. google reader is one of them. - MG Siegler
Google reader, never leave home without it! Friendfeed is definitely not a replacement. I see feeds on my reader that don't make it to the Friendfeed universe. - Alexander van Elsas
Although, I use GR less, I could never do away with it. FriendFeed does help a lot because I find myself marking a lot of stuff read (wish there was an easier way to do that) and being able to move on to to other content. - Shey
None of these services are an either or thing. They joy is in how they all work together. - m.0
can't get enough of Google Reader especially when I can find more exciting, techy blogs in the "Discover" section which I cannot live without. In respects to reading Friendfeed headlines, I don't really see this site as a news site. More as a conversation ABOUT the news! - Josh Chandler
I suffered your pain. Then, as some kind of experiment, I spent some time creating imaginary friends and tweeking feeds and the list of people and rooms I subscribe here. Awsome, now I cannot think about swapping FriendFeed by something else like an RSS reader. I still have to better manage my FF, specially trying to reduce the noise, but this is definitively better than the "old way"... - Marcos Marado via fftogo
I just found 44 items from you on your Google Reader shared items feed. I guess you're back. :) Google Reader allows me to more easily see things from a particular person; if I had to rely on finding them in their FriendFeeds, I'd probably miss them. - Ontario Emperor
I don't know if I feel smarter when reading google's reader, but I feel like I am smart when reading it. - Mike
@Robert start using feedly with Firefox 3. Now that feedly has integrated Friendfeed into their plugin, I'll never leave Google Reader. - Chris Rodgers
yes - rambn
Robert - a combination of http://mionews.com + creating a private room with your RSS feeds in it may get you best of both worlds. Though I know you don't like that mioNews isn't a river-of-news, but we're working on that :) - Patrick Lightbody
I feel the same and I like it even if you did not like me saying thanks to friends saying that they liked my roadmap video - Loic Le Meur
Yes, I'm reading both. I read a lot more than I have time to share, but it helps to have both Google & FF formats available. - Cathryn Hrudicka
I'm using both, but for different purposes. Add Feedly, which is getting some of my casual browsing. - Chris Baskind
I agree but the issue is if I find something there and want to then ind the conversation here about that post I can not easily do so. I can post my own link but it would be nice to find the relevant posts here for any given item in my Google Reader. - Joel Ordesky
I've been wandering away from Reader for a while. See too many headlines that don't interest me. - shelisrael1
