friendfeed is where I find great stories, links and conversations. Facebook is where the girls I knew in highschool talk about their sick kids. So, yeah, not really thrilled with this move, BUT it will either work or all the friendfeed users will just find another service that better meets their needs (and isn't inside a walled garden). Friendfeed users are much more likely to just leave if the service doesn't do what they want.

i like that friend feed was more artistic, intelligent and not too main stream. If they keep the two independent, fine. If all things Friend Feed are linked to or integrated into Facebook, and I have to hang out with all those Facebook drones............well, we'll see. Also as some one who moved to Friend Feed to escape all the celebrity giberish and nonsensicle self promotion, I really hope that FB serves as a parent company and does not try to integrate them too closely

Okay, okay, Leo. Be the voice of positivity. Someone should, anyway. But here's my 2 cents. I spend most of my time daily on Friendfeed. Facebook is only a small portion of what I share here. Most people fear of course that FB will absorb FF and make it more of what they are providing, rather than what we are already getting from FF. I hope you're right, as does everyone. But based on what FB has shown me, I, like the others, have little hope of this.

IF Vivian Schiller is correct, IF it's a delusion, IF "people will not in large numbers pay for news content online," how does the $200 million Joan Kroc gave to NPR alter that equation for the news organizations planning to charge? She may be wrong in her interpretation of history, her predictions about user behavior may be off, but I don't see what the $8 million to $10 million in income from the endowment has to do with the situation for the news companies she's referencing.

Today, Google engineers announced a technology called PubSubHubbub that makes RSS/Atom more real-time, and they deployed the technology on FeedBurner. FriendFeed also added support for the technology, so if you have a FeedBurner feed, your updates should show up in FriendFeed within seconds rather than minutes after the feed updates.

To enable it for your FeedBurner feed: go to Feedburner, click on the "Publicize" tab, and then click on "PingShot" and enable the PingShot service. That will enable PubSubHubbub and send your feed to a number of ping services.

I don't understand. Updates won't appear on Feedburner in realtime, so what's the point?

Nice tech, strange name though. Wonder if Google has a projectname generator, feeds it some foundation words, and then watches it spew out 1,835391 suggestions in 20-sized chunks? This tech has been around for ages. It's getting much needed promotion right now, but it's not new. The name comes from XMPP's pubsub mechanism, with hubbub on the end. The option for PingShot has also been in Feedburner for months.

I think that unless you have installed the pubsubhubbub plugin for wordpress, that feedburner still polls your content. It pushes your content out to other interested parties using the new mechanism, but it will still poll your feed. Correct?

My last thought on this, no matter what happens, US definitely needs to stay out. It's Iran's internal matter just as 2004 re-election of Bush was our internal matter. As shocking as it was to the rest of the world (I still struggle with the fact ppl I know actually voted for him - twice!!), US did vote for Bush the second time.

the citizen journalism tells the story in a way noone else could. you are right there in the middle of the crowd with all the changes of pace and direction, the shaky camera itself tells a story and the sounds. it is like actually being there--that is why the twitter and youtube coverage is the real coverage--they don't have to process, package and add a local angle to it that waters down the effect

I was a Palm user back in the black and white days of the Handspring Visor. I've also used the Palm VII (briefly), and the Treo 600. Oh yeah, and the Tungsten E, and also a Dell Axim (obviously not Palm but MS mobile). I liked Palm OS for a long time, but the Treo made me switch to a to a Blackberry 7800 (loved it). I now use a Tmobile G1. It would take some time for me to warm back up to Palm. Interested in how the Pre works out.

As many as 40,000 Web sites have been hacked to redirect unwitting victims to another Web site that tries to infect PCs with malicious software, according to security vendor Websense. The affected sites have been hacked to host JavaScript code that directs people to a fake Google Analytics Web site, which provides data for Web site owners on a site's usage, then to another bad site, said Carl Leonard, threat research manager for Websense. Those Web sites have likely been hacked via a SQL injection attack, in which improperly configured Web applications accept malicious data and get hacked, Leonard said.
