OMG. This actually ended up in my dream last night.
- Victor Ganata
Okay, this is weird...I'm listening to Sylvester's "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)" on last.fm and the alien is throbbing in precise time with the beat.
- Heather
Trying to convince my friend Amanda to join up. She has my feed bookmarked but is reluctant to hop in (she was burned by MySpace and doesn't like Facebook or Twitter either). Want to give her more reason to join us?
Come join the party, Amanda! It's sort of like 1999 in here, they keep saying friendfeed is going to end, so we're all up in here partying our asses off ;)
- Bren, Not Grinchy
Joining is fun, all the cool kids are doing it. Plus, we are mostly harmless.
- Joe Pierce
Good people. Many open minds and the ability to block the ones that aren't. Best way to have neat and unique content from the web brought to you and the ability to talk about it with newly found friends.
- SAM
She doesn't like Facebook? Why, she's very nearly one of us already!
- Mark H
Invite her on the podcast, while you're at it.
- Steven Perez
She was invited a month ago, no dice there. Some people are bothered by such things.
- Amber, Random Time Lord
Show her the groups. Many different interests with great information and awesome feedback with experienced users, developers and even some creators.
- CW™
If she wants she can use an alias so that its more anonymous. This helps many people.

We're nice here (mostly). We behave like real friends to each other, even though many of us have never met each other IRL. We post fun, interesting, thought provoking, controversial, thoughtful stuff.
- Jason Huebel
There are a lot more tools here for controlling what you see, who you see, and who sees you.
- Spidra Webster
Hmm. I'd like to say FF is nothing like MySpace, but of course that's not entirely true. Can you say how she got burned?
- Michael R. Bernstein
come in the waters fine.............
- VAL D. Zone
I sent her a demo vid and Johnny's guide. Now it's out of my hands.
- Amber, Random Time Lord
Amanda, Amanda, Amanda, I *HATED* myspace, deleted my account shortly after I signed on. I *HATE* FaceBook for oh so many reasons, ESPECIALLY NOW WITH ALL THEIR LAME ASS APPS, but I have an account, mainly for family members I can communicate with, without actually having to communicate with them, and I don't Tweet, never have, never will. But, friendfeed? friendfeed is different...just try it. :-))
- Anna Haro
Make sure you list the people that she needs to not subscribe to and who she must block. This will start her experience off well. :)

Then move on up to the Southside in the new home and get my sleep on after moving the furniture today to ensure I become so Awesome. YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm hoping that since this pool is directly visible from the master bedroom, that we do not let it become an alien life form, I would disappointed in myself if we did, otherwise I'm as happy as a clam (But are clams really happy is the question?)

Cheerwine - I'll have to be on the lookout for this when I'm back in an area that sells it. It's mostly in the southeast US and in areas with a high concentration of young hipsters (NYC, LA, Portland, OR, etc.) At least we have Vernors up here. UPDATE: I found some here in Indianapolis! - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki...
From http://www.cheerwinefinder.com/ "Cheerwine has been found in the following states: Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, Maryland, Missouri, North Carolina, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia"
- Kamilah Gill
from Bookmarklet
We have it in abundance in Atlanta:)
- Roney Smith
I'm sure, Roney. I lived there for several months. Wish I'd been aware of it back then. How does it taste?
- Kamilah Gill
Heard of it, but have never seen it in the flesh. I think they had it in Austin.
- Derrick
We had it in the college dorm cafeteria in Lincoln, NE.
- Jordan Hofker
Derrick, cheerwinefinder.com claims it's in southern California somewhere. If you really want to try it out, you could check that site. Jordan, you might want to add that sighting to that website. They didn't get Nebraska yet.
- Kamilah Gill
Did we talk about this before? Very few regional sodas left. I get Cheer Wine and Sun Drop from my mom in NC. I also grew up on Vernors.
- Jason
from iPhone
I'm only 30 miles away from the factory, apparently I've heard thy have other flavors, or they used too.
- Jimminy
Jason, I may have missed the earlier conversation. I'd love to get a list of remaining regional sodas. They do fascinate me a little bit.
- Kamilah Gill
I know that there's a soda store somewhere in LA that sells all kinds of crazy sodas, Derrick. Heard about them on NPR or some such.
- Alex Scoble
Honestly though, I didn't really enjoy the flavor when I had it. I do like crowd-sourcing, so I added it to the site. :-)
- Jordan Hofker
Jordan, I'm sure someone out there will really appreciate that :)
- Kamilah Gill
Hold up! I *have* seen that glass bottle before! :O I think it's at Locally Grown Gardens. I might have a trip to make today. (I haven't announced yet that I'm on vacation this week. Ahhh.)

Meh. Not a fan, but I can get it here (middle GA). Feel free to come visit!

Friendfeed (private group) for web to do/notes, Evernote (portable notes and shopping lists), RTM and Google Calendar (not happy with iCal feed delay +6 hours). Also looking at reQall and DropBox for additional mobile options.
- Chris Myles
For my to-do list, I use RTM, reQall, and GCal. Both RTM and reQall connect to my GCal. For notes, reQall is also good depending on the type of note, but most of my notes are in Google Docs, Evernote, and Diigo at the moment.
- Rebeca
Combination of Jott and Evernote. Jott to keep track of things I need to do and tasks and Evernote for knowledge and when I need to capture information for a task. I have them integrated so that Jott can send stuff directly into Evernote as a new note. Here is a Lifehacker article on how to do this integration - http://lifehacker.com/373815...

What does it make you if you want to go to Burning Man but think it is too hot and dusty and can't deal with that level of dirty without modern comforts like a shower?
- Rachel Lea Fox
Woohoo lazy hippies unite! (not rich enough to qualify as 'yuppie')
- Lo
I was thinking yuppie, but there is nothing professional about "wanting" to go to burning man or being too attached to the shower to really want to go. Maybe lazy hippie. Or hippie princess! ;)
- Rachel Lea Fox
Burning Man hasn't been around nearly as long as hippies. Are you saying all hippies ceased to remain hippies when they didn't go to the first Burning Man?
- Kenton
I have to say though, I think you also have to be a nerd to be the kind of hippie who wants to go to Burning Man!
- Rachel Lea Fox
No one born after 1969 can be a hippie. That is all.

I never have enough money for Burning Man or Birkenstocks. :/ I prefer Crocs anyway. :P

'On average, couples that live in [zip code] spend between $34,575 and $57,624 for their wedding. This does not include cost for a honeymoon or engagement ring.' The first time I looked at this site I almost died.
- joey
Flat nothing where I live - I can't get legally married.
- Sparky
How do they get their data, though? I never told anyone what my wedding cost.
- Stephen Mack
My zip code says between $25,854 and $43,091. I'm not buying that at all.
- Rochelle
In my zip code is says $40,235 and $67,058 DAMN
- Shevonne
$19,735 and $32,892 in a little town outside of Austin. Wow...that is insanity.
- aden
Stephen, just a random guess, but I would assume that they would survey the vendors out there in a certain area and then add it up? The average cost of a caterer in my zip code plus the average cost of a florist plus the average cost of a venue, etc.
- Rochelle
ours was JOP and home-made food. i think we spent less than $600 on the honeymoon.
- Joe Silence is not dead
Louisville, KY 40220 spend between $13,922 and $23,203 for their wedding. - Never known anyone who spent that much.
- Tsali, The Native of FF
Whoa! I was married at my mom's house in Palo Alto. The range there is $66,090 and $110,149!!! We didn't spend that much, and I still thought our wedding was costly!!
- Georgia Diehl
I don't suppose they subtract the value of the cash and gifts given
- LogEx
we were broke when we moved to the US from NZ and weren't about to go into debt for our wedding. my parents paid for our honeymoon trip as a gift.
- Joe Silence is not dead
I definitely see destination wedding if I ever get married
- Shevonne
Our wedding is a little on the high end...about $20k to $21k for my area. Range is $13,769 and $22,948
- Alex Scoble
the wedding? about 6 grand. since the breakup? $1,550 a month. for 8 long years.
- Morgan Haley
Joey, it just seems like too much. When I was doing my planning and all that, I don't think it would have been that much even if we had paid full price for everything. I guess it really depends on what kind of wedding you have and where you have it. Cake/punch in your church hall is going to obviously be less than plated dinner at a hotel downtown.
- Rochelle
that sucks.. its does not take canadian zipcodes
- Peter Dawson
Morgan, how many children do you have?
- Georgia Diehl
Wow! I had no idea child support was that much! Although, I guess I'm just assuming that's what you were referring to!
- Georgia Diehl
Child support? Try 'spousal support' aka alimony. But divorce is expensive because it's worth it.
- Morgan Haley
The site's figures are based on survey results from people who've paid for weddings and not based on polling of vendors according to the site.
- Alex Scoble
the 3 'rings' of relationshits: engagement ring. wedding ring. suffering.
- Morgan Haley
$14,993 and $24,988. Thank you Rochester :)
- Benjamin Golub
We saved a lot, Roberto, that's how.
- Alex Scoble
Well, that's most certainly better than borrowing the bulk of it :)
- Roberto Bonini
from iPhone
My mom wanted us to have a larger wedding (200 guests), so i told her fine, as long as she was willing to pay for it. She did...
- Georgia Diehl
That's all crazy talk - we spent about $3k-5k on our wedding. $10k+ for a one-time event is ridiculous!
- Jesse Stay
That's more reasonable Jesse. But there is no accounting for taste. :) my parents got married and had the reception in the back yard.
- Roberto Bonini
from iPhone
Reasonable-shmeasonable...my catering bill alone, including alcohol is like $7500 and frankly, that's reasonable.
- Alex Scoble
Roberto, nothing wrong with that - it's where we had ours. It was still decorated beautifully, people still had fun, and we still got married. We made a lot of our food, and ordered Sams club for the rest - nicely decorated most people don't even notice the difference.
- Jesse Stay
It's like I've said before, once you get in to the traditional wedding industry, there is no cheap.
- Alex Scoble
Exactly what they did. I will probably do that as well. I'd rather spend that big money on the honeymoon.
- Roberto Bonini
from iPhone
...and don't get us started on the diamond cartel ;)
- LogEx
Roberto, oftentimes you (the groom) have no say in the matter, hehe. If you aren't already in a relationship, choose wisely. :)

- Alex Scoble
There was someone here on FF (I don't remember who, but it was a guy?) who said his wedding budget was $100k and his honeymoon budget was $50k and thought that was totally reasonable and realistic. I was O_O
- Rochelle
People make lots of money off weddings and funerals. Sometimes it's really sad. In Las Vegas, I contributed $40 for a car wash, when I heard that the reason they were washing cars was to cover the funeral costs for a friend. Elopement maybe?
- Mitchell Tsai
It says $11-18K where I live. I think my wife and I spent around $8K.
- Jason Huebel
Mine cost $16 at the county building. It was still fun.
- Jeremy (cropmarks)
I think people *greatly* underestimate the cost of their wedding because they mostly look at recent bills after the event, but so many expenses, like deposits/stationery happen so far in advance. People also tend to not bundle-in related costs, like gifts for the wedding party, etc. If you think about it, if you host your reception at a hall w/ a catered dinner (which is what most people do), the food/beverage costs alone are like $100/person, so it's pretty easy to imagine how the average gets up to +$20k.
- Ana
@Mitchell Be wary of funeral car washes. Frequently those are scams.
- EricaJoy
My brother and his gf have ditched their idea to marry in the UK, instead of £10-13k they can spend £2-3k in Greece and get *everything* paid for. It's no contest, so we all off to Greece in a couple of years. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
My dog knocked my external harddrive off my desk (she ran into the power cord) and now it's not turning back on when I plug it back... What do I do? Is it lost? I had lots of data on it... most of it is backed up I think but it's a shame to have to buy another 1.5TB drive. :S
It happens, my house-mate had a HDD knocked off his desk by a cat and it too is now done for.
- Aram Zucker-Scharff
This is what you get for calling Paul Thomas Anderson pretentious. Lesson learned? Check!
- Akiva Moskovitz
LOL! I just think making people call you by more than 2 names is a little bit manipulative... but maybe I'm being too judgemental.
- Lindsay
It'd be funny if he required you to use his full name every time you talked to him.
- Akiva Moskovitz
I prefer to be called Revrend Tsali Richard Lee Wasituna, thanks. Also loose power connector on the innards is most likely culprit.
- Tsali, The Native of FF
That sucks! I just dropped mine the other day. Didn't check it afterward. Gah! One more thing to worry about.
- Jim Hearts FF
@Tsali - thanks, I will check that out (or have Tad the computer hardware guy do it for me tonight).
- Lindsay
Same thing happened to me. I took it all the way apart and confirmed it was the drive itself (and not the controller, power supply, etc.) that was toast.
- Dave Roth
"By the time you came to the breakfast table in my great grandpa’s kitchen, you were plenty ready to eat. Maybe you spent the past hour working the fields or gathering eggs from the henhouse. You might have visited your neighbor’s home for fresh milk or butter. Everything on your plate would have been made from scratch. And any meal, especially one made by my great grandma, would have included potatoes: home fried, scalloped potatoes, maybe even potato latkes"

Blessed with beautiful mountains, pristine streams, and rich soil, Colorado rewarded Zel and his family. He began farming and selling potatoes and eventually opened the Zell’s Potato Company, selling his crops at the city’s farmer’s market. As his family grew, breakfast continued to hold its importance, serving as a touchstone between his life in the old country and his new life in America.

Wild Eggs believes it can start right where my ancestors left off – serving hard working people and their families with great food. Of course, potato dishes will be served along with other traditional breakfast items. We hope to introduce many new items that were not served in my family’s kitchen. Now, with your help, the recipes, passion and traditions of Zell’s Potato Company can live on. We hope our food, style and service can make an impact on your day.

Haha Rochelle I planned to get up early every day but I've just been too exhausted and headache-y to do it. Today I had to be in Redmond at 10. Hopefully this is my new routine.
- joey
G'morning, Joey! It's kinda weird to think you're tucking into your breakfast as I'm finishing my dinner!
- Andrew Terry
Matthew, all the squirrels are in marshaled in Redmond, Charlie-Chocolate-Factory style, trying to crack that open internet nut.
- Micah Wittman
Joey, you have to get into the habit of closing Aion and going to bed before 3AM. :P
- Rochelle
Haha, I haven't played in a few days. I've been reading. I just can't get to sleep until really late because the headaches have been keeping me up. :(
- joey
I have an easy chair in my bedroom to sleep in when I have bad headaches; sitting up seems to make it hurt a little less.
- Robert Hafer
from iPhone
Robert, I think that's why I tend to stay upright and try to read or play a game. When it's a cluster headache I get fidgety and can't stay still and need some sort of input to try and distract myself.
- joey
:( There was a while where I was working until about that time then going to bed and working at 8am. I am so glad to not be doing that anymore. Are you adjusted to your schedule?
- joey
I'm well adjusted thank you, oh you meant the schedule? Yeah, I sleep around 8pm and wake at 330am most days, but have been known to head to work with less than an hour sleep. It's ISP escalated tech support, so less sleep the better, makes me sounds all techy and stuff throwing random numbers and accronyms out there
