I think Seth is missing the point... what about the Firefox community? Firefox users *do* benefit when the user base grows, because new users join the community. A better community means better add-ons, bug fixes, data on phishing sites, translations/dictionaries, etc... - Blaise Alleyne
Does the average joe really benefit, do they install add-ons, get involved in the community. Not from what I have seen. Web Geeks maybe, others outside in the real world. No not really. That's the view Seth is looking from - Gary Barber
The average joe benefits from... bug fixes -- their browser runs better... security patches and phishing reports -- their computer is safer... when their friends computers are safer, they're safer as a result (less of a chance you'll be sent a virus if there's less of a chance your friends will have a virus)... translations and dictionaries benefit someone who doesn't speak a popular language -- not all languages are well supported by all software... Besides add-ons, what's for web geeks only? - Blaise Alleyne

The number one enemy of any strategy is poor execution. All across the business landscape, the ability of an organization to execute its strategy is one of the most critical elements of success. And for an effective UX strategy, the broad range of elements requiring alignment and implementation make its successful execution all the more difficult. - Gary Barber

Raphaël is a small JavaScript library that should simplify your work with vector graphics on the web. In case you want to create your own specific chart or image crop-n-rotate widget, you can simply achieve it with this library. Raphaël uses SVG and VML as a base for graphics creation. Because of that every created object is a DOM object so you can attach JavScript event handlers or modify objects later. Raphaël’s goal is to provide an adapter that will make drawing cross-browser and easy. Currently library supports Firefox 3.0+, Safari 3.0+, Opera 9.5+ and Internet Explorer 6.0+. - Gary Barber

I really love Evernote...I use it for everything from saving copies of receipts to recipes to all my book research notes. I've even imported all my old notes from my trusty old Keynote which I've used for years. - Crystal
jeff's comment about the tos was very disturbing, but it looks to be a little misleading as well: "You retain copyright and any other rights you already hold in Content which you submit, post or display on or through, the Service. Other than the limited license you grant in the preceding paragraph of this Section, Evernote acknowledges and agrees that it obtains no right, title or interest from you (or your licensors) under these Terms of Service in or to any Content that you submit, post, store, transmit or display on, or through, the Service, including any intellectual property rights which subsist in that Content (whether those rights happen to be registered or not, and wherever in the world those rights may exist)." - cjmart

the problem with panhandling...it doesn't scale. I live in the most panhandling friendly place in the world too, but once there are more than 2 or 3 panhandlers on the same block, it winds up not working out for anyone. @Robert Seidman I totally agree, it is a bad move, but I think its a move with diminishing returns. If Duncan or anyone else for that matter does it again, then again everytime the number of supports will drop until well nothing happens. Ultimately Duncan could have even included his Digg submission in his feed and not solicited.. Who knows all I know is I am fine with it this time and think that diminishing returns will handle the abuse all by itself. :) - Roger Kondrat

many thx. Up to 220. Jeez, it takes a lot of votes to become popular on Digg these days - Duncan Riley
While I really liek what Digg has tried to do it, lkike Wikipedia, is proving the point that "the crowd" doesn't have much wisdom. I am finding things liek FriendFeed to be a much more efficient way to get linsk to things that I really care about. Being able to pick and choose who I listen to helps a lot. - Soulhuntre via twhirl
Oh, and "dugg!" - Soulhuntre via twhirl
Soulhuntre, very true, although I'm not going to say no to the 25-30k page views this will deliver if it hits the front page either :-) Been a long time more me (day 3 was the last time, and the site is approaching 3 months in). Thx again to everyone for their Diggs. - Duncan Riley

"How the h*** can you put a quota on broadband? It's OK if the user only uses the internet to check emails and a few other things, but the standard product should/must be unlimited. I'm surprised that Australia is so far behind. Is it lack of competition?" - Dennis Bjørn Petersen
Its mainly due to lack of Govt understanding of the problem and one company holding all the cards (lack of competition) but then that company have a govt as a majro shareholder. Major conflict of interest. Too much time and money is taken up trying to service every remote corner with boardband. To the point that the urban hubs have very poor, or average quality. This is due to the sole company have to recoup the loss leaders in the rural areas. - Gary Barber

We're often asked about things like process (something I've written and spoken quite a bit about), how we deal with problem clients, how we deal with the sales process and RFPs, etc. For some reason it seems like we shouldn't talk about this stuff openly and to be honest, I'm not sure why that is. So I'm just going to do it. - Gary Barber

Most accessible web developers fall into three groups as it pertains to the value of these tools. Either they love them, hate them, or don't really understand how to use them. The purpose of this article is to encourage those who love them to not overly depend on them, those who hate them to stop being haters, and those who don't understand them to come away with an open mind. - Gary Barber
