"Wouldn't surprise me one bit. As it is, I don't think many in Congress even understand how the Fed operates or functions. Let alone, who owns it. That's a sad thought, indeed." - Tyler

"I assume your point is the meat of my response, but you're right... even with the Government entity within the Fed, there is still no oversight or regulation. The Fed tells the Government what they are and are not going to do." - Tyler

"You're upset because people are confusing terms yet you're doing so here. The Federal Reserve almost always refers to the Federal Reserve System, which by definition, includes elements that are indeed Government. The Federal Reserve Banks themselves are the privately owned entities, I would assume you're talking about. Why it was ever called Federal, I don't know, but it surely isn't simply a privately owned company, either." - Tyler

"Everything you've said is true, save one. The Federal Reserve System could create a new Federal Reserve Bank at any given time without the approval of the Government. The Board, while being a Government entity, has no real control over the policy or mechanics of the Reserve System as a whole. They merely suggest. EDIT: Well, and they enforce the law the Federal Reserve System proposes." - Tyler
