Because Without Patents, No One Would Ever Come Up With News Feeds from the no-status-updates-allowed dept A bunch of folks are talking about a patent that was recently granted to Facebook (7,669,123) that covers creating an automatically generated news feed based on things that you do. While not quite as broad as some of the original reports claimed, it's still fairly broad, and highlights pretty clearly how ridiculous the patent system is.

I'm not actually sure how that would work. Ubiquity communicates with the web to create mashups. I can't think of how this translates to just desktop use, but I also haven't had my coffee yet. :)

Wonder if that script can be used to call any firefox addon from other applications, if the respective addon has a keyboard shortcut tied to it. seems like it should

Ahh, Ubiquity changes the user agent string to include Ubiquity/0.1.5... but on a browser restart this isn't sent the first time Firefox starts up. Found what was breaking Kohana's autologin auth code.
Ubiquity development tip, if your writing a pageLoad_ function, comment out that function and test it in preview and you won't have to make restarts to see your changes.
I don't make much sense... write all our code outside of either the pageLoad or the preview codepath. Then you can disable the pageLoad part while deving. When you ship, disable the preview if it isn't needed.

I have the same problem :P. That's why the FriendFeed command is basically the Twitter and get-lyrics commands customized for FriendFeed.

3.0 is still far too slow compared to saf 3.1. the Fx nightlies have been getting more use from me than Fx 3.0 did but I suspect it won't be interesting until they dump spidermonkey/tracemonkey(which is too unstable to turn on yet) for tamarin.

I know what you mean. Firefox is still a HUGE resource hog for me. To be honest, Quicksilver is a way better alternative than Ubiquity at the moment (although the ease of development on Ubiquity is awesome). I'm super excited about the concept though and being able to use something like this cross platform will be great.
