"Whether you prefer Linux, Windows, or Mac OS X, you can probably get almost everything you need done with your chosen OS. However, sometimes a task demands an OS that you are not currently using. That's where virtualization programs like Sun Microsystem's VirtualBox 3.0 come in. What is it? VirtualBox is an open-source virtualization program which lets you run guest operating systems with your native desktop operating system. For instance, if you need Windows to run Quicken, but prefer Linux for all your other work, VirtualBox enables you to bring up Windows and Quicken without leaving your Linux desktop......"

I run it from both Linux and Windows 7 and run FreeBSD, OpenSolaris, Windows XP and several Linux distros as guest OSes. I'm an OS Junkie. :0) Too bad I can't afford a Mac.....
- angrykeyboarder™ (Scott)
Would you believe that I use VirtualBox in order to do just that, run Quicken in Linux.

Anyone have an extra pc? My pc keeps shutting down within Ubuntu and Windows, I've checked everything inside the case, I dont know wtf is causing it, my pc is a couple years old, I'll pay shipping if someone has something I can blog with, I dont care if its a netbook, notebook, clunky desktop or whatever Just enough power to run Ubuntu
@Matthew lol.. ya I never broke a pc yet, This Dell Dimension 3000 is old as hell but gets me working online, had it maybe 4-5 years, got all the expansions maxed with ram and hdd's maxed, I dont have air conditioning and my pc was running like a lawn mower, the fan, cleaned it out and now the fan is working fine, but now I get random reboots

"Mac4Lin works on a variety of Linux flavors, including Ubuntu 9.04 and GNOME 2.26, but there's no KDE version (yet). A lot of third-party apps that use GTK for skinning, like Firefox and Songbird, look great in Mac4Lin. An unstall script is also included in the latest version, in case you decent you don't like the OS X look, and you'd rather go back to your default UI."

Nah... making m GNU/Linux system looks like MacOS X? No way. If I wanted this, I would buy the real deal. I don't like OS X, that's why I use Linux.
- Ryo
I like OS X, but I'd choose Gnome on Linux. It's pretty, too -- just in a different way.
- Chris Baskind
I disapprove of making one operating system look like another. Small inconsistencies in the user interface between the real thing and the imitation will drive the user crazy as he attempts to do EVERYTHING in the manner that the real operating system would do.

What kind of eye candy does Mac have that Linux doesn't already?
- Tanath
I wouldn't go so far as to say gnome is pretty ;)

good question, it seems they are working on upgrading their server: http://portableubuntu.demonccc... meanwhile ubuntu internal update system is probably the best solution
