The Songcatchers On Mountain Stage : NPR - http://www.npr.org/templat...
The Songcatchers developed out of the Traditional Appalachian music program headed by Dr. Everett Alan Lilly at Mountain State University in West Virginia. The band continues to grow, and its members' ages span from 10 to over 60 years old. Dr. Lilly is the son of Everett Lilly, a living legend of bluegrass music who, as a member of the Lilly Brothers with his brother Bea, took bluegrass music to Boston in the 1950s and became hugely popular in Japan. Everett Alan Lilly learned the set opener "Little Cabin On the Hill" from watching his father sing along with Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs. The Songcatchers feature vocalists Tiffany Underwood, Bill Underwood, and Jordan Young, with Bill Atkinson on mandolin, Brian Taylor on bass, Daniel Gravely and Ron Moran on rhythm guitar, 10-year old Ashley Lilly on vocals and 12-year-old Blaine Johnson on banjo. - Nate DiNiro
