Today I was giving a workshop on STEM careers to my 20+ undergrad researchers, and on the topic of networking, it occurred to us that I should teach students how to make 'business/calling' cards for themselves. #hackedu?
I'd argue that it's even more important to have an "elevator pitch"

Chris, the 'elevator pitch' is something that we have the students deliver. In fact, I was making AudioBoos of them earlier this summer. We also have them do a 'dinner table pitch' which is like the 'elevator pitch' but it's geared toward a non-technical audience, like a mom or dad who doesn't understand (or, maybe, value) the science or mathematics that the student is studying.

Awesome - glad to hear you're teaching them good skills like that.

Showed my 20+ research students 'Did You Know? 3.0' (http://www.youtube.com/watch...) to put them in the right frame for my 'STEM career' workshop. It had their complete and utter attention.
