giving McCain an opportunity to use SNL to promote his election bid aint funny or interesting or what SNL should be in the business of doing.
- Marko Bon
Yeah! SNL should be in the business of promoting Obama by making FUN of McCain and Palin! OMG FAIL!!!!!!!
- Akiva Moskovitz
The debate coverage didn't impress me as one-sided. Tina Fey is a dead ringer for Palin, and Palin is fair game (and fertile ground) for satire.
- Marko Bon
Of COURSE she is! Because, like, you totally don't agree with her! And you think she's dumb! So, like, yeah! Right on! *fist bump*
- Akiva Moskovitz
I have to hand it to McCain for agreeing to give this avenue a try. Took some guts. Well, either that, or he's totally caving to every single thing that Steve Schmidt recommends.
- Donna Mugavero
Shouldn't be milking election for ratings? What alternate reality universe is that where SNL doesn't milk an election for ratings? It has always been thus and hopefully it will always be so, or they aren't doing their jobs as comedians.
- Alex Scoble
Cameos of political candidates on SNL work when they're written into a good script -- this was thin and felt like pandering. Palin is comedy gold just as Clinton was, completely fair game. But -- you're not really up for a debate, you're gunning for a fight, so -- see ya.
- Marko Bon
Do you think that people are making their decision on who to vote for based on a HSN type sketch w/ McCain and Fey on SNL?
- Sean Reiser
What sucks here, Marko, is that you're right: I am out for a fight. I'm in a bad mood and I'm looking for a scuffle. Good job in seeing that. I should step away from the keyboard before I make an idiot of myself.
- Akiva Moskovitz
Ugh. Yea, because they should have never had Gore and Bush on either. You're the type of person I would NEVER want to discuss politics with.
- Mattie Kenny
Which reminds me, I put a moratorium on political discussion on FF. Whoops!
- Mattie Kenny
I just think anything McCain does is sad these days--besides, Daily Show has always been McCain's whoring spot before ;P In fact, Obama was on DS the other night--McCain should be calling up "Jon the Fake News Show Host."
- thepete
I haven't seen it yet. Sounds like a desperate move by the GOP to give McCalin a bump.
- Larry Kless
Really? I think they are free to do whatever they want, if people don't like it they don't have to watch. Remember their ratings are only as high as they amount of people who watch.
- Mathew™
I'm voting for Obama, and I didn't watch SNL -- but I read a CNN article about the show and it really looked fine. McCain came on and made jokes -- they looked like funny jokes too. I don't know if there are professional ethics for a comedy show, but if there are, SNL's behavior certainly seemed within them.
- Mitch Wagner
SNL and every show out there would be dumb not to have a presidential candidate on their show...lighten up!
- Susan Beebe
Not worried about it. Pretty much everyone has already made up their minds (or already voted), so his appearance now doesn't mean much.
- Steven Perez
the writing was weak - this wasn't political satire, there was no insight in the humor, it was just a platform for some aw-shucks lines. Maybe the number of episodes they're writing (another one airs Monday) is effecting the quality, something that barely holds up past the Weekend Update segment anyway. But yes, basically, I don't think Cameos *like the one tonight* are doing anyone any favors at this point in the game. I don't know folks, I'm just not laughing.
- Marko Bon
I thought the opening with McCain was very funny. I think it was the best commercial his campaign never did.
