"The Southern Poverty Law Center reports that MSNBC’s Pat Buchanan has invited the editor of a white nationalist, anti-immigrant website to speak at the upcoming conference for his group, the American Cause. Peter Brimelow, editor of VDARE.com, has written numerous tracts railing against immigration. He has said that the Republican party must “appeal to its base: white Americans,” and noted that John McCain “easily carried the white a.k.a. American vote.” Hitting back at critics of his website, he defended the site’s “white nationalist” writers: We also publish on VDARE.COM a few writers…whom I would regard as “white nationalist,” in the sense that they aim to defend the interests of American whites. … Get used to it. As immigration policy drives whites into a minority, this type of interest-group “white nationalism” will inexorably increase.""

did anyone see that special on natgeo, titled 'american nazis', about the 'national socialist' and 'white power' movement? to an extent it made sense, but still really surreal, to see the nsm picketers being transported to their place of picketing via police-escorted/protected bus. free speech is a 'protected right' one law enforcement officer said. nsm leaders are predicted to bring in new recruits due to the passionate nature of american positions on illegal immigration issues. it's worth a watch, i think, because race and immigration and who/what gets the blame are issues that will not just go away.

docrivs, you might want to watch the 1981 movie 'Skokie'.
- Michael R. Bernstein
Or, for a far more hopeful perspective, watch the 2004 documentary 'Paper Clips'.

michael: thanks for the suggestions. as long as my netflix queue is i will definitely look into those two and see if i want to move them to the beginning, while my thinking is on it. i've seen some interesting nazi-related films. there was one, can't think of the name, that was about a brilliantly book-smart jewish kid who hid his background and joined up in the white power/aryan/nazi/skinhead movement. it was very good, and i don't think it's very well-known. also, 'max', starring john cusack, was really good -- about an art gallery owner who met hitler.
