Nobody expects more than 56% turnout, they are not equipped to handle it. I got stuck at a port with another 3000 people over spring break for hours because they only knew how to handle 300 at a time. It's the same problem with the polls this year. There have also been technical problems everywhere because the people creating the voting machines are underpaid idiots.

BBC News showed polling stations in New York and they looked very very crowded.

I just voted and it was a breeze-- about four other people aside from the poll workers. Was in and out in under 30 mins and half of that was because I had trouble streaming video from the booth on my iPhone--damn Flixwagon app crashed on me. :(

To quote Flavorpill: "Here in New York City, where the electoral map shades from robin's-egg to navy blue, we're used to being taken for granted come election day. But that's no excuse to shirk our civic duty." What's exciting is that people are voting.

I've never been so happy to stand in line - yay voter turnout!

The problem is we run elections like retards - they're locally administered. So affluent districts have a lot of money to pay for machines and staff and keep the lines down, and poor, crowded districts by and large don't.

New York doesn't do early voting, also, which has helped out a lot of other states with historic turnout.

Based on what I've heard/read, the lines here in FL today have been really manageable. Of course, we have early voting here - and those lines were apparently awful.

blame it on "states' rights" -- freaking ridiculous. the ridiculous thing about our voting place -- i couldn't wear a button, but they didn't even ask for id -- just my name. oh yeah--i feel confident about the process. ;-)
