"The larger reason for Palin's early departure was that she was having no fun. Ever since she returned to Alaska from the national stage, being governor has been a chore. Her political opponents have launched 15 ethics charges against her. The state economy has turned sour, and she got into an ugly squabble over federal stimulus funds. It's much more enjoyable to travel the country waving to adoring crowds of GOP activists."

Wrong day if she's embarking on a plan to first get into the media and then boomerang back to nominee in 2012, but it's the right day if she's trying to get out ahead of a scandal. I think her team - picked more for loyalty over competence - isn't great, but even total dummies would realize that announcing a resignation on Friday afternoon is terrible if they wanted to 'own the news cycle'. And her speech lacked all kinds of focus.

The only thing that stops me from believing entirely in the "burying the scandal" theory is that panicky stupid stunts aren't exactly implausible. McCain pulled that insane stunt about suspending his campaign last year, after all.

Yeah, we may be completely underestimating how stupid and insane she may actually be.

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned - or more importantly, one trying to protect her children from late night television hosts.

Without reading the article: I don't think she chose the day. It must have been a forced move one way or another. If not forced by outside circumstances, forced by something worth more than using the news cycle to her own advantage.

Agreed, sounds like she's hiding something.

This thread is so satisfying after the frustration I feel about this woman. Don't 'those' people who stalk her... well I guess everyone has different taste.
