"Also I think "we all know" that Nokia also is moving towards linux (mameo), they just can say that out loud, or they have big problem with their symbian developers from that day forward..."

"Developers don't like symbian, users don't "really" like symbian. Those that are now using had no choice at the time or don't have budget at the moment (and then there are those that have learned to routines of symbian and those that must use symbian). Check our this developer presentation, how to choose right mobile platform. Teemu is Jaiku developer (was twitter competitor in early days that was sold to Google) from Nokia country. http://www.slideshare.net/teemuku......"

"I think, in way back then it was the technically oriented people that could lead the way in adoption and therefore is what happened. I think this time around it's average consumer that are not tech savvy who are leading the way in volumes and their purchase reasoning is way different than tech people (like in other consumer products based on brand). It would be very interesting to see how the game would end today if PC & Apple would start from zero. Me too would like to have plenty of competition for apple, so they that they must keep pushing and bring on new features, but that's about the only reason I care. Another comment on the point number three. Broadcast TV on mobile is struggling in those countries that already have it (Europe). The reason is that LIVE TV in general is becoming niche, most of us prefer TIVO and other DVR's & web video. The reasoning is that people enjoy the freedom in their time schedule on their free time and if it's something you want to watch live, you most..."

"Maybe one way of replying to that need would be: "if you really think you need that much at this point, it tels us that you don't really believe what can achieve with this venture, together with all of your resources, expertises and help you can offer""
- Valto Loikkanen
"I agree, a combination of both, something that starts with crowd action and then moves on to next level etc. as long as it keeps passing enough people of right audience in more organic than just "rating""

"I have a friend that is obsessed with this stuff, he knows who are the best translator's from English to Finnish for each type of film he want to watch :) I think even something like google translation could work in movies, because of the type of language, sure it would work better between some two languages and not so good with some more difficult translations with more challenging structural differences. But I think with what google is doing with their human assisted translation machine, it will continue to get better. If for nothing else it could be used to do the first version of titles and then continued by human."

"at Startup Commons we have created this 3 item list to tackle this whole issue and would love to get your and the whole community's ideas and feedback to this first item http://ow.ly/2bqice"

"We too have been working on this subject to simplify this term sheet issue. Instead pondering on it just by ourselves, we decided to spin-off this part of our internal development at grow vc, to a separate non-profit. IE. "open source" this part of development, to tackle this problem with following approach: 1. create categorizing model to identify different types of early start-ups quickly 2. find/build/attach high level sets of terms for different categories 3. develop efficient web tool to better manage the logistics and communication of the agreeing process (start with high level term sets by category with "blog style" commenting per each term) As a non-profit SC will make all of the work freely available to it's members. We also hope this non-profit will have a great life of it's own, since it's a vehicle that nobody can own, acting only to support global startup ecosystem. Anyone wanting to participate, you are welcome to join us. We need plenty of resources."

"Something else. It's amazing to me, that those helping to build global businesses could be acting much more global with their own business on daily activities. The same way as building a local ecosystem, there needs to be one for global as well (on top of internet)."
- Valto Loikkanen
"Ok. We have Y-combinator and techstars. Then we have the official and unofficial copies of there + several other normal incubators etc. everyone aiming their startups to go global. My question is, where is that next level? "going global, but where exactly is it?"
- Valto Loikkanen
"I think in general, when we talk about VC level startup and internet in the same comment, we should just forget these borders. Just makes no sense to me."

"As we are building an global internet based model for the early stages funding, if it would have been possible, we would have registered our company to "united states of internet" :) (who knows, maybe internet could declare independence some day... Sure would make the international legal issues whole lot easier). But instead, since trying to look into future, Asia will continue to have ever greater meaning as well, so for now we have chosen HK to our "home", just like HSBC. HSBC has decided to relocate their CEO (and his team) from London to Hong Kong. They and analysts have commented this that Asia is getting so important role in the finance world and this crisis is one turning point that Asia will in many ways be a leading finance market after the crisis."

"It looks like you have updated to new blog, since I have visited last time (normally I read via RSS). I was looking for some of the older comments to older posts. Are those all gone?"
- Valto Loikkanen
"Indeed. The site is www.growvc.com and you can read about our journey so far, from our blog at www.growvc.com/blog - We are currently in private beta. "So funny how the internet works. I found your site via Zemanta, via ping to one of our posts. Not only is it great tool when writing posts, but also finding new related blogs of others. At Grow VC we have been working with this type of idea for a year now and just end of June we launched as private beta. Yet after year of hard work behind us we are just starting with this and we have so much still to do."
- Valto Loikkanen
"Great to see the transformation happening at the later stages as well. Fred, not sure if you have had time to visit, but we are now open as private beta. Here is one of the latest posts about that http://www.opengardensblog.futuretext.com/"

"45 min for the first meeting "to here the idea and meet the team" is plenty. Also few ideas comes to mind when thinking about this. 1. Agenda! - I think everyone funder should have "standardized" 1st. meeting agenda listed on their website and/or send via email along with the meeting confirmation. This agenda would list the expectations for the meeting from the funders point of view. This is the only way to make sure both parties come prepared. Maybe something like this: - handshake, (name) introductions, business cards, small talk 5-10 min. - pitch 15 min - Q and talks 15 min - No or yes for next steps 5min - next steps talks 15 min So no takes 45 min and if continued can be fitted in hour. if when its structured this way (like in a events are), should be good results. 2. As much as "getting to know each others" and making sure both sides are a basics match for what they are looking for, can be done online/before hand, will speed things up even more."
