Will Anybody Buy The New Large-Format Kindle? http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2009/05/will-anybody-buy-the-new-large-format-kindle/#
"Amazon is on the cusp of busting out a new, large format Kindle. The new e-ink device could be here this week and be big enough to read magazine and newspaper layouts without too much dickering with their designs." - Shevonne from Bookmarklet
I don' think this will be popular. Why get a large-format Kindle when individual articles can fit fine on a normal Kindle (Disclaimer: I do not own a Kindle to test this out)? - Rishabh Mishra (p248)
It has to be in color if it is going to grab my $$. Otherwise I'll wait until someone comes up with a great color display. - Dan Morrill AKA Techwag
It might be big enough for me to enjoy reading a book on. - Chuck Baggett
A large format kindle will be PERFECT for reading technical books on. The current Kindle is great for novels and non-fiction business books, etc, but for programming tomes it's way too small. A larger size will be perfect for me! I spend $100s each year on programming books. - Internet's Tad
I have my doubts. When was it Amazon introduced Kindle 2 - two months ago? Introducing newer still/ larger screen unit makes no sense in so short a time. That is, unless they knew all along that Kindle 2 would be just a stopgap for gathering orders, which would be fulfilled with Kindle 3s or your money back or something. - ianf ⌘
Interesting. Is this possibly the start of a trend with Apple and the rumored large format iPhone/ Macbook Touch???? - Roberto Bonini
yes - i would be a buyer of the new kindle. Newspaper reading is what i need it for. - Michael Vorel
I don't read newspapers or mags on my Kindle but larger screen size is always welcome as long as it doesn't become massively unwieldy or battery draining. - ronin
Or massively expensive.... - Roberto Bonini
If indeed it makes an appearance, but prices itself out of the market, we could be faced with a new case of Audrey The Web Appliance, only potentially a better substrate for hardware hacking <http://google.com/search...> - ianf ⌘
@Roberto "Is this possibly the start of a trend" - yes, it's even official <http://www.lorenheiny.com/2009...> - ianf ⌘
I haven't really been compelled to upgrade from the Kindle 1 as yet. They need to tweak the price point a bit more for me to upgrade. - Adi
Haven't been compelled by the Kindle at all. Maybe if it were color and less ugly. If rumors are correct and Apple's coming out with a "media pad" then I am relatively sure Apple's will be quite a bit nicer than the new Kindle. - Anthony Citrano
I don't think screen size was the issue with reading magazines and newspapers on the Kindle, as much as the linear layout. Making the screen larger might help, but only if the interface is improved as well. - David P.
Actually, I am now extremely interested in the large-format Kindle now that Tad pointed out that it would be very good for programming and other technical books. I don't currently own a Kindle. Perhaps I should get one... - Rishabh Mishra (p248)
@Rishabh neither of us has seen it, so let's quit speculating, shall we? Nothing in the specs has so far spelled out "open architecture enabling install of devtools." I wouldn't think Amazon would be very interested in opening it up either, since they apparently harbor an illusion, that the DX will remain DRM'd for good. - ianf ⌘
@ianf: Installation? I just want to read some programming books on a large format Kindle. - Rishabh Mishra (p248)
Dunno I'll wait for R. Scoble to tell me what to do... - sofarsoShawn
I have the Kindle ap for iPhone and would first like to see the books I've already bought from Amazon over the years become available for cheap on that. Kinda like the current read-it-online for $2 or whatever more program. And then, pending a bigger Apple reading device - Apple tablet? Double-wide iPhone? Whatever - I might just invest in some #3 or 3.5 readers from the drugstore (I don't think they make 4s) so I can read a whole page on the phone without scrolling. ;-) Interim hardware investment: $14.99. - MaryB, BrandingBroadOfFF
Mind my words: first color/ multitouch/ WiFi tablet that comes along, and gets embraced by book-reading public, Amazon will gladly retire the Kindle, while pushing the kindlified literature, which is their main mission. Amazon-the-hardware-maker is just a diversion. - ianf ⌘
i have a Sony Reader PRS-505, it crashes 2-3 times a month, sometimes it cannot turned on for 1-2 days, and I really miss a built in dictionary. Kindle looks great, but a bit expensive I think. - gatza

Walking around Ia in Santorini... Stopped for yogurt with honey and walnuts-my favorite. Photos on flickr :-)
Wow, I really miss Santorini. Did you join the masses and photograph the Oia sunset? The view of the Aegean Sea and the sun is amazing. - Michael Vorel
Wife and I honeymooned in Santorini, loved it there... very jealous - Andreas Matern
Went there last july. Will never forget the view on the caldeira... Some photos: http://www.flickr.com/search... - Guillaume Lemoine
