There are many occasions when the term "Like" does not fit something shared. I have seen various opinions on the subject and would propose that we put our ideas in one spot so our FriendFeed dev friends can weigh in on the matter and see our input.

well, I'm not sure about this. When "like" is not appropriate for the item, you can always comment on it. It has the same effect.
- Alejandro
I'm with Alejandro on this one. Commenting, that is: actually contributing, seems more valuable than just saying "me too! me too!"
- Alex von Halem
I see a need for another term - like = express a like for something, comment = have something to contribute, but there's nothing to flag things I want to follow-up later e.g. a later flag, or star etc., I currently use like for this but I don't really think it fits and would like another term.

Alejandro and Alex, those are valid points, though I personally use the "Like" system as a bookmark of sorts. My counterpoint is that the "Like" system is there, so the intention is to be used. If that's the case, then there should be more flexibility. I've seen smiley faces next to rapes and natural disasters and it's somewhat disturbing.
- Vince DeGeorge
Yeah, something definitely needs to change with regards to "Like". I use it to bookmark things for later and to help draw attention to a news item. I totally agree that the smiley faces don't belong next to tragic stories.

I've felt the same apprehension about "liking" some things. We need a short verb whose definition is "to appreciate and/or acknowledge the importance and/or entertainment value of...". How about "fed"? If you feed something, you contribute to its growth. It also continues with the other meaning of "feed" that FF utilizes.
- Erik Dafforn
I like "fed." Not sure if that's the one, but it has the right idea.

I do like the way that the comments act as a release valve for the "like" section...
- Iain Baker
I still like "Highlight" or something similar
- Jordan Hofker
No, but we can probably keep this thread (is that the right word?) on top for quite a while. :-) Long enough for Paul to see it, anyway.

Why do we even need a word. Why not a little graphic like a gmail star?
- Adewale Oshineye
good point... A simple graphic would be the most 'simple' option.
