"Good points... I think the answer to the paradox is that the potential of software increases faster than the installed capacity of "solved" problems. For every WordPress that nails a problem properly and makes it unnecessary to redo, 3 more exciting ideas seem to crop up. Perhaps this is because there are so few physical laws constraining computing (P!=NP is really the only serious conjectured "law") I wrote a bit about this in an earlier post, http://www.ribbonfarm.com/2009...
