Gearing up for the biggest GT ever. Reddit is having a global meet up day this Saturday and the Seattle meeting will be pushing 500 people. My, bulletin board get together have come a long way.
I had proper crumpets for the first time this morning. They're not like English Muffin's at all. In fact, I'd say they're more like pancakes then anything. Dense, spongy and strange pancakes.
Agreed, they're fantastic. And they absorb butter like no one's business so every bite like a butter filled treat. I'm glad they're available in stores around here now.

My step dad's heart attack featured on Regional News - Go Jim! Everett city planner saves co-worker from massive heart attack | KING5.com Seattle - http://www.king5.com/news...
Wow! I just read this to Akiva without telling him that it was your step-dad at first. He was all impressed by the story and then was shocked when I said it was your step-dad. Glad he's doing better! :)

This is why Apple always wins in the mobile space. Sprint is about to release the EVO 3D, a top-to-bottom winning device and THIS is their marketing thrust? "3D amazingfulness" Oh brother...I'm eagerly anticipating the device but this actually makes me LESS interested.
I'm frankly getting pretty tired of this. Every single job I apply for I hear one of two things: "you're overqualified" or "You don't have enough experience." I'm feeling pretty schizophrenic about the whole job thing.

Apparently I'm only eligible for a McJob where they don't ask you about your past at all and make minimum wage or a six figure job where I'm responsible for hundreds of people and oversee a 5 million dollar budget. but *nothing* in between.

Get the megajob and descend the corporate ladder!

<3 I understand. I'm in a similar situation and just lucked into my current position because it's really 'outside the box'. I don't understand the dichotomy either. Why can't we do things that we are 'overqualified' for but passionate about? I'm thinking of you.
- joey
There's obviously such thing as being overqualified for a position but not overqualified for a company as a whole. I don't think regional Google offices have the same freedom of hiring as the main campus does but I could be wrong.

Just saw a commuter train hit a car in Akiva & Rochelle's neighborhood. UMM. Woah. This is going to be ALL OVER THE NEWS.
From the news website: "A woman trying to maneuver her car around a railroad crossing arm is in the hospital after she was t-boned by an Amtrak train Thursday." What an idiot.
- Rochelle
a friend of mine once said "trains have been around for many years. they haven't gotten any slower. why people still try to outrun them is beyond me"

I think I'm going to use this guy as the template for my post-rapture persona. Such amazing dance moves! So much sizzle! - http://www.youtube.com/watch...
It's not that I don't like them (or Holy Grail or Princess Bride references). I like the Simpsons, Monty Python, and The Princess Bride. I just get so exhausted by people acting like it's some kind of eyebrow-waggling secret handshake. It's essentially the same thing as telling a knock-knock joke and elbowing the crap out of the guy next to you to prompt an unwarranted guffaw. Everyone's heard it a thousand times before and no one is laughing anymore.
- Akiva
That's where you are wrong...I'm still laughing and I'm sure that others are too.

Laughing at the same joke over and over again is some sign of insanity, right? I think I read that somewhere on Wikipedia the breadth of which makes it automatically true. RIOGHTTAL:JGBbb

Some jokes only work through repetition. And what was the meaning of that word salad acronym?

So, phone screen for a contract job at Google went well. It's not the sexiest of jobs and the commute isn't ideal, but its a job working on tools I'm passionate about and would be a cool experience to have.
Main Google Kirkland campus *gasp* Three buses. Home -> Everett Station -> Totem Lake P&R -> Google Campus. About 70 minutes each way. However, as I understand it there are carpool opportunities.
