Did you try typing on a different i3G to see if there was a difference? Also I have heard that staying on EDGE and only turning on 3G when you want it puts the battery life back to Gen 1 iPhone levels. stability and battery issues exist for first gen HW with 2.0 SW and apps. I'm willing to tolerate (for a while anyway) because of the payback in joy and functionality. A good app would a power management app bringing up a one-touch power saving mode and custom options (similar to) MacBook. - Michael Markman

On the power issue, I have learned that handset receive and transmit power is actually set by the network over the air. The base station can tell the handset to tune down or up real time. The rumor is because AT&T coverage is not very good (not enough base stations?), so they set this setting very high and drain most of their 3G devices pretty quick. The power setting at AT&T is believe to be higher then European operators. In time I suppose, thing will invest more into their network for 3G. :) - netrider11
