LOL @ Domino's and delivery. None of the Domino's near me deliver to my address. Yeah.
- EricaJoy
Also? LOL @ marketing chicks 90's hair. Perm, hairspray, and high bangs.
- EricaJoy
One more: Domino's nearest me had no idea about the new recipe.
- EricaJoy
Hehe - I still haven't watched past my Tweet's appearance. I don't really care what Domino's does with their recipe. As my brother says - it's far more important what their minimum wage (and lower probably) workers do.
- Chrimmus Tad
from fftogo
Thank you Domino's and your generous portions of mechanically recovered meat and jalapeno chillies giving me the raving trots last week.
- Sankt Nikolaus
Wow. That's totally awesome. Good on Domino's to feature it in this way too. Hopefully their new recipe really is that much better!
- Nathan Chase
I think a lot of people—myself included—are working a little harder at it. Plus, I've been receiving significantly more new subscriptions, a lot of which are from people brand-new to FriendFeed. It's definitely a good thing.
- Akiva Moskovitz
In all seriousness, I've been getting a bunch of new subscribers too. Not sure if that's just me making nice with the librarians, though.
- Derrick
Well, now that you mention it, I HAVE been posting more! (Looks around... realization sets in... sits back down and stares intently at floor...)
- Mark "DerBingle" J
Friendfeed activity never goes away, even if people stop using friendfeed directly, as long as they set up feeds and continue doing interesting things on the intarwebs, we'll find out about them here. Keep 'em coming folks!
- Andy Bakun
Happy happy joy joy, happy happy joy joy, Brent over there, Brent over here, Josh Neff too, enjoy the good ol' days, and prepare for more action in the future. Partying if possible, wishing the best of health and to all the technopeasant's family, the best of year. \o, /o/ ~~,o. \O/ ~
- ElijahBailey-Zu of FF <0,
Actually, as far as I can tell, Like in FB does do something: it's basically an empty comment, so you get notified of new comments that occur after you Like it.
- Mistletoe Glen
@Glen: it's true but what bothers me most is that unlike friendfeed, fb delivers a separate mail for every person that comments on that post. #lame
- 'Like' robot (frɐnc)
I would just like to go on record here and clearly state that, were I able to do what this lion is doing, I WOULD NOT! NO! NEVER! EVER! Thank you.

Mark, not even if they were dipped in chocolate?

Yau'll are some sick _ucks. Let the King have a private moment for God's sake. Shame on you people. Can't yau'll see he's welcomed in the jungle. He went down south :)
- Jeunelle Foster
I'm a fan of it, too. Ben hadn't seen it but he's enjoying it.
- joey
I really want to show this to Rochelle but I can't until she's seen Hamlet and it's pretty much impossible to get her to sit down for four hours to watch a movie.
- Akiva Moskovitz
Which Hamlet? I like several interps but I have a favorite.
- Melanie Reed
I don't know that Ben has watched any film versions of Hamlet, but he's seen a stage production and/or read it.
- joey
Melanie, I go with Branagh's simply because it's the most complete (but, unfortunately, most the overwrought). I also have a soft spot for Almereyda's Hamlet but I still think that one needs to see the play properly before indulging in modernizations and alternate versions.
- Akiva Moskovitz
I read it first them watched several different actors doing it. Always something new. And then saw 'Rosencrantz and Guidenstern Are Dead" . Glad of that progression. So many favorite moments but the one that keeps haunting is this: If it be now, 'tis not to come; If it be not now, yet it will come; the readiness is all. Since no man knows aught of what he leaves, What is't to leave betimes? Let be.
- Melanie Reed
And, of course, the best line from Rosencrantz & Guildenstern? BOK BOK BOK BOK.... BUCKAAH. BOK BOK BOK.
- Akiva Moskovitz
Akiva, yes, I very much appreciate Brannagh's (came out near Gibson's - and I like his too for different reasons) Have you tried our Kevin Kline's version? (grad IU btown) Interesting.
- Melanie Reed
On modernizations, yes, I feel very much that way especially watching Ian McKellan in the remake of Richard III. That one still haunts me - the last scene.
- Melanie Reed
This is just so many kinds of WIN. I used to lug a 17" gaming laptop to Starbucks, set up a mouse pad, FULL-SIZE mouse (not those wimpy travel mice), power supply, external monitor (ok not really) and sit there and play Far Cry or whatnot. Oh wait, scratch that, I was *working*. Yep. :D
- Adrian
This was Starbucks on Melrose. Yeah THAT Melrose, two blocks from where we lived for 8 years. It was usually filled with dainty actresses and douchebags on their blackberries discussing fucking SCRIPTS really loud. Some of them WERE fucking scripts (like real porn and shit). Did I care? Nope!
- Adrian
Needless to say, you can see why this guy is my hero.
- Adrian
We need a nuke to take out that Starbucks. Maybe if those people didn't have to place to go and *talk* about what they were working on, they'd actually get work done. I hated that place.
- Admiral Anika
What happens if you're sitting in his cubicle when he arrives? Does management ask you to move or does he take things into his own hands?
- Roney Smith
34 secs flat for my latest tweet. Thanks Paul and team for this!
- Jorge Escobar
wow, that makes actually want to use Twitter. I may just go tweet something.
- Mike Nencetti
It should be even faster than that Jorge, but our systems are getting near their limit. I hope to have it down to 1 sec sometime next month.
- Paul Buchheit
Yay! That's fantastic! I was getting really bored of manually refreshing it every time I tweeted. Especially from my phone. :)

Does this mean that Scoble can get smarter on FriendFeed again?

Great news, love the efforts still put in to FF.I use Google Reader to share into FF (PubSubHubBub) then FF to Twitter (now Real-Time). The URL shortener is great (ff.im), and so FF is central to my social lifestream. I don't care what Scoble says, FF is technically better and feature-rich.
- Keith Rowland
P.S. Conversations are still better here than on GReader, and you just can't have one on Twitter.
- Keith Rowland
You didn't break the FF Facebook app while you were at it, did you? It hasn't worked since.
- Tim Tyler
Oh, awesome!!! 12 seconds :) I can finally go back to Twitter (...okay no I can't I've turned into a Friendfeed junkie..) but prior it took hours upon hours for me to see a feed. Dumb I am, I never suspected a problem LMAO.

"RNC Chairman Michael Steele "is using his title to market himself for paid appearances nationwide, personally profiting from speeches with fees of up to $20,000 at colleges, trade associations and other groups -- an unusual practice criticized by a string of past party chairmen," the Washington Times reports. "Mr. Steele, elected in January to the $223,500-a-year RNC post, is working with at least four outside agencies in Washington, New York, Boston and Nashville that book the speaking engagements. He charges between $8,000 and $20,000 for an address, plus first-class travel and lodging expenses.""
- Admiral Anika
from Bookmarklet
What legitimate reason is there to pay up to $20K to hear Michael Steele speak? It's not like he's that accomplished - what elections has he won _on his own_? What accomplishments has he had in running the RNC? The only mitigating factor I can see is that anyone who thinks this is legal bribery has neglected the fact that Steele doesn't have a lot of juice within the Republican party.
- Andrew C
Heh... You're supposed to wait until you retire to go on the lecture circuit. But, given Steele's, ah, popularity, one has to ask, how did anyone notice?

I hear about all these people stressed about the holidays. Running around to crowded stores and trying to get stuff shipped on time. I'm just relaxed and smiling. :)
- Cristo
So much so that you've forgotten good grammar and punctuation.
- Akiva Moskovitz
Akiva, if you're looking for good grammar on friendfeed, you need to pour yourself another drink quickly. (Or maybe go back to Twitter where I see you've been slumming).
- Cristo
I guess I won't be waiting around for that fruit cake.
- Rodfather
Aww, man, Cristo. I always knew you had my back! [glug glug glug]
- Akiva Moskovitz
Rodfather, did you have a date tonight? ;) Sorry, that was bad. I just couldn't resist the fruit cake joke.
- Cristo
Why does a "present" make the giving zen or not zen?
- Hayes Haugen
Really wish everyone thought this way...it would be much easier. It's a time to get together and enjoy family regardless of belief system, not for exchanging meaningless items that will get tossed out in a couple of years.
- Ⓐ ☠ slayerboy ☠ Ⓐ
Hayes, because I like don't like a lot of material objects around my house, and I don't like being in crowded places with people I don't know. Buying holiday presents is usually wasteful. I just give people stuff when I think they need it.

In an official capacity, the women’s team were given the recognition they deserved, for example, a reception at Downing St and captain Charlotte Edwards was awarded an MBE. But this failed to translate into substantial media coverage. We’re talking about the performance of one of our national sporting teams, yet nobody is apparently interested. The transfer of a league two footballer is likely to get bigger headlines. And it’s not just cricket. Open any newspaper and you’ll find scant coverage of any women’s sport. The usual arguments which surface to defend this situation include: women aren’t interested in sport, only men read the sports pages, women’s sport is of a lower standard, women’s sport is boring, and so on. But these are all circular arguments. The sports pages are designed for a male audience and alienate women in various ways. Targeting an entire section of the newspaper at men while excluding women, and then claiming women aren’t interested, is illogical.
- Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
from Bookmarklet
"What is the message here? If you’re a woman and want to feature in the sports pages of the newspaper, don’t strive to be a successful athlete; date a successful athlete instead."
- Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
Too true. It reminds me of how women have little trouble identifying with a male protagonist so those films draw both genders but if the film has a female protagonist, it's a chick flick. Really speaks to how emotionally stunted many males are that they feel they can't get into something if it's got a female protagonist. Unless, of course, the female is performing in porn or something something that trades entirely on her sexuality.
- Spidra Webster
I don't know any statistics about the relative interests in sports across the two sexes, but assuming that men like sports more and people like to see "athletes" who they can most identify with (e.g. of the same sex) then it's not strange there's a much bigger demand for male sports news, and hence a platform for advertisers. I guess that the people who want to change this situation would do best to campaign for more interest in sports among women. No demand, no product.
- Meryn Stol
A (female?) entrepreneur could easily prove me wrong by launching a women's sports magazine. I wouldn't bet on it however. (but then, I don't have any statistics about potential demand)
- Meryn Stol
Meanwhile, one sports-related ventures targeted solely at women do well: women fitness centers. So it's not like nobody is searching for profitable "niches" (which in case of women fitness is actually very big).
- Meryn Stol
Womens tennis and golf do extremely well, financially, in advertising sponsorship. I also believe many of the premiere events at both the summer and winter Olympics are womens events, again, translating in to dollars from sponsors. As for targeting specific sections of a newspaper to one gender or another, what of the Arts & Leisure section? Lastly, fitness centers play on the self-image of women in that they need to improve their bodies whilst men relax on the couch reading the sports section.
- MVB (Grinch of FF)
MVB, that high sponsorship revenue is interesting - given the relative little media exposure they get (I guess, maybe it's much less skewed as things like basketball and soccer). Maybe a typical female viewer is worth more than a male one. Well Joelle, I say jump on it, and do that magazine/website hybrid. Put it on the Kindle and the long-awaited Apple tablet and your golden. :P Or maybe something non-proprietary? ;)
- Meryn Stol
lol Meryn, good pitch :D I do think that the "women dont like sports as much" is a self fulfilling prophecy - even women who care for a sport or team passionately can be put off by the message. But I agree that the bias is mostly in mainstream, team based competitive sports and not in the more "classic" sports (the ones where nearly nobody makes a lot of money are more equal in reporting and gender bias)
- Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
I wonder if this is a problem the world over, or if some women's sports (tennis, figure skating) get more coverage because of a number of factors. Meryn, Sports Illustrated used to have SI for Women earlier this decade, but it folded after only a couple of issues.
- cecily
And some of the best sports writing for women out there is at hoopfeed.com, if you're into Women's Basketball. (and I'm not just saying it because Cheryl Coward is awesome and a personal friend of mine).
- cecily
thanks cecily, I didnt know of that site :D (partly cause I am a basketball dummy)
- Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
Meryn you touched on something and I'll expand a little: the womens sports that do well, financially, are individual sports; tennis, golf, figure skating, etc... and not team sports which seem to have a niche following at best. I also think it is wrong-headed to think that an increase in women viewership is needed. Since men are traditionally the overwhelming demographic for consuming sports media it is men to whom marketing needs to focus its attention.

Michael, the fact that you are experiencing this pain demonstrates that not only are you able to cope with it but that you could endure more. Whenever you survive the experience of any pain, you have already beaten that pain. You've already beaten it.

Thanks, everyone! The difficult part is keeping mentally stable during a bout of pain. I'm not handling it as well as I'd like, but I'm working on it. My oncologist put me on morphine (insurance won't pay for oxycontin until I try morphine first), so it should be under control now.

You all remember the Consumerist not backing down from the Cash 4 Gold retaliation http://consumerist.com/2009... right - they held their ground, light was shed in a dark corner, and justice prevailed. It's not always that clear cut, nor easy, and battles can be lost; but it's right. It's a completely different set of circumstances here, but the principal of it is universal. All the best, Anthony.

@WoH: thanks, they be fixin' it soon, I trust.

While I agree that Demi Moore is starting to take this too far, at the same time I do have to say that the guy who did the Photoshop work should have at least checked to make sure that things were lined up correctly. Photoshopping a image is one thing, but not keeping an eye on your work is another.

What does it say about my sons that their block buster Christmas gift, the one they will be most excited about, this year is a collection of books? - http://search.barnesandnoble.com/The-Com...
The Complete Calvin and Hobbes is their big gift, and I think they will be very excited. It is just interesting that they are at an age where most of what they will recieve is either a book or a game. I think they've read most of Calvin and Hobbes already, but this edition will make sure they haven't missed anything

What about "hey baby girl", I hear they like that one.
- Jesse Hattabaugh
There's nothing more demeaning to females than being called "baby mama." I hate it when things like that get accepted into the vernacular as being either funny, or cool. Hell, it's even considered 'respectful' by some. But what's the truth here? Bottom line is, a guy is basically saying to a girl that he looks at her as someone he wishes to impregnate. Yeah, that's real classy.
- Fleagle
I thought "baby mama" was for a woman you had *already* impregnated but to whom you were not married. I've never heard it used in the way you describe. See also: "baby daddy"
- Brad Greer
No. Not at all. I've heard guys say that to girls they're hitting on. As if that's going to do the trick.

I challenge anyone to find a more compact way then "baby momma" to describe someone you've impregnated, but are otherwise not involved with. LOL.
