AHEM! Answer me THIS: In the midst of working with hundreds/thousands of people per day, have you ever called someone THE WRONG NAME? :-)
All the time. - Anika
indeed I have - Chieze Okoye
The worst is when they make you guess and you're way off. - Rodfather
I'm terrible with names. So I don't even try to hide it. - Jason Huebel from iPhone
I don't get the people who won't speak up with the correct name. It's MORE awkward after you've introduced to them as Peter to 87 people to have them say, "Actually, my name is Aaron." *judochop*. - Anika
LOL @ judochop - Jason Huebel from iPhone
Yep. But I've been *called* the wrong name at work much more often. - The Bohemian Penguin
I like the @judochop, too! lol - Vincent Wright from email
I just posted this morning about someone who consistently calls me the wrong name, despite the fact that he has a bunch of correspondence with my correct name on it. - vicster
Oh, when people say my name wrong, I have no problem correcting it. But it sucks when they don't listen. "Here is 'Ann-ick-a'. "Hi, I'm "A-knee-kah', glad to meet you." "So, "Ann-ick-a here..." And I tend to start fuming because if they didn't pick up on that small cue, it's a sure sign they won't pay attention to anything anyone says. - Anika

Forget Perfection! Succeed WITH Mistakes... - MyLinkingPowerForum.com - http://mylinkingpowerforum.ning.com/profile...
"hmmm...How can I say this? I wish I could figure out a way to be mistake free but, after spending several decades contemplating that intriguing little human concept called perfection, I think it's safe to say that mistake-free is not something that's going to happen to me. (And there's a good chance it's not going to happen to you, either! But, you're still going to be, ok. Let me explain...) When I was very, very, VERY young, I got bitten by the "Perfection Bug"." - Vincent Wright from Bookmarklet

"the evolution of a blogger’s ego I started blogging three years ago this month.  It was a fantastic environment where you had your own “bully pulpit” … a place where you were in charge, you had the mic, and you could say whatever you wanted. I soon learned that bloggers had quite the ego.  They used their bully pulpit to talk about boring stuff (that we were supposed to be interested in) as well as though leadership or subject matter expert stuff.  Bloggers had enough rope to hang themselves with - and some did.  Others became fantastically popular (Seth, Guy, Michael, Chris Brogan), and even internet celebrities." - Vincent Wright from Bookmarklet

My car was broken into last night at union square SF. I think they used a digital scanner, as there were no indicators of foreceful breakin, and I doubt I left it unlocked. Damage? Stolen subwoofer, ipod, and a few hundred CDs, leather jacket. Could have been worse, I'm not mad, but lesson learned.
that sucks! - imabonehead
That sucks, Jeremiah. - Alex Scoble
Sorry to hear. I was just saying to my husband that no one breaks into cars to steal cds anymore and I am sorry to learn I am wrong. - Martha
that's shit sorry to hear about it..... but, you know what they say about leaving stuff in ya car..anywhere.. I always had the MINIMAL in the car. - Rob Sellen :o)
Digital scanner? I need to read up on this. Sorry to hear this, man. That sucks. - ha3rvey (free hugs!)
Ouch! (This is one where I wish "like" was "dislike") - Jesse Stay
At the Union Square parking lot? - Adam Helweh
My iPod was stolen 2 weeks ago too. :( sorry that happened I was afraid that it would come to this. Rise in theft. - i ♥ derrick #bellymeme from iPhone
that bites man. - Michael Chin from BuddyFeed
yeah, sorry to hear - union square - hmm. - Alex 'BuckyBit' Covic
Oh crap! Sorry... - Helen Sventitsky
sorry! :-/ - Johnny from BuddyFeed
It was at union square on the street - Jeremiah Owyang
There's two ways that I know of that car thieves can use to break in with digital scanners: 1) A device that emits a range of device till cars unlock 2) A thief can be in proximiety and 'record' your signal from your car alarm, then 'repeat' it back with a devices after you leave. I don't have more details, it's what others told me - Jeremiah Owyang
good old fashioned keys used to be enough... - Rob Sellen :o)
No, physical keys are messy. Digital is fast and clean and you don't have to fiddle with car locks nor break windows. - Jeremiah Owyang
stops ya stuff getting nicked tho eh... just sayin :o/ - Rob Sellen :o)
That sucks! You seem pretty cool about it, which is good. My car was stolen a year ago, but I got it back within an hour thanks to some friends and some connections with the Santa Monica Police. The car was insured, but it was the feeling of being victimized that bothered me. I'm sorry this happen. - Michael Fidler
A few hundred CDs? Did you keep these around to send a message to the ipod, that at any time, it could be replaced? - Andy Bakun
Well, that's a pisser. - Brent - Long Live Rock
That sucks indeed - Nia
Wow that Sucks! - Jeff P. Henderson
Sorry to hear that! Assholes - Jacque from fftogo
About 10 years ago, I had a couple hundred CDs lifted out of a locked car trunk. Was parked off of Melrose Ave. The lock wasn't forced. - Christopher A Carr
@Jeremiah Why lesson learned? Do you think to have mistaken something? The only thing you can be in the future is don't leave in your car anything that can interest thieves (or not visible) - Roberto aka postoditacco from iPhone
Having lived and worked in an urban environment, I've learned to hide anything of perceived value out of sight and to make better parking choices. Other than that, there isn't much one can do. Things are just things. It's that feeling of having been violated, that stings. I'm sorry to read that someone did something to wrong a person who does so much for others. - Mark Davidson from BuddyFeed
Sorry to hear man - LANjackal
Roberto nothing was visible, although my car looks nice from the outside appearance, there's a lot of gang acitivity in SF, and my type of car is popular so next time: 1) i'll leave less in car 2) park in a garage. Yes I'm cool about it. Shit happens - Jeremiah Owyang
Really sorry to hear that. - David Cook from fftogo
Mine was broken into on the street in front of my house one night. And we live in the safest neighborhood in one of the safest suburbs of Northern VA. Feels very violating. Glad your OK and not bitter. - Craig Eddy
Possibly the thieves will read your message and return stolen devices - Irina Yakhneeva
Bummer. - Anne Bouey
I'm sorry to hear that happened, Jeremiah. I hope the thieves are caught with your stuff. Interesting that they may have used a digital scanner, yet another thing to watch out for. - Cathryn Hrudicka
I've had my vehicles broke into and it's such a bummer. Sorry to hear that you had to experience it, too. - Kelli Perez
Bummer. Mine was broken into in SoMa two weeks ago. They took nothing. I had to replace the glass. Lesson learned too. - fogfish
Weird, I've had my car broken into in SoMa too. - Robert Scoble
Unlucky, how does your insurance policy work in the US on what you can claim back? - Joe Dawson from iPhone
Joe: usually you have a deductable. Mine is $1,000. They broke a window on my car, which cost $400 and stole my friend's old laptop. Not worth reporting. - Robert Scoble
I've always loved visiting Union Square. But I once walked unscathed through a whole area in SF which I was later told was a bit risky, then arrived in Union Square and missed by inches being brained by a bottle hurled (at me? at life in general?) by an evidently less than happy chap half-reclining in the entrance to an unused shopfront. - Des Walsh
This is where FriendFeed needs a "Note" button rather than a "Like" button - for while I'd like to make a note of your post, I don't like the idea of your having had someone break into your car. (I especially don't like the idea of their having stolen your CDs...condolences...) - Vincent Wright
sorry to hear that man. - Thomas Hawk
Back in the late '80s in NYC, I had my car broken into weekly. I lost so much stuff but the thing that still burns is losing my late dad's custom leather racing suit. I loved that suit and wore it when I had a motorcycle. It's the sentimental stuff that is hard to get over. Sorry to hear... - sean808080
Sorry to hear that - Shevonne
Already some years ago I considered to install two cams (or webcams) inside my car (ok, I'm really mad ^_^) that register a video after a little movement of the car (also when another car bump the mine when she's in the parking). I haven't yet applied this, but maybe one day... - Roberto aka postoditacco from fftogo
sorry to hear that buddy. It's only stuff and you guys are ok... - David Alpert
I'm sorry your stuff was stolen, that sucks! We had our car stolen years back while it was double-parked with a passenger still in it! Long story short: we got it back with minor wear & tear & learned a valuable lesson! - Zulema ◕ ◡ ◕ from BuddyFeed
Sorry to hear about your loss. Invasions of privacy such as that are truly disturbing. :( - Mathew A. Koeneker
I'm sorry to hear that your car was broken into. I know it's "just stuff", but I always hated the feeling of MY space being violated whenever my car was broken into. My old Huyndai was broken into quite often (even in so-called safe parking places) that I just didn't keep anything of value/interest in it. They still tried to break into it...I think they just used it for practice, really. :-( - vicster
So sorry that happened to you, Jeremiah. Were all those things in clear view? Lots of times the thieves won't bother if they see nothing in the car. That's why SF police recommend that you leave nothing visible in the car -- not even a pair of sunglasses. - Mary Trigiani
what lesson learned? To carry all stuff on us..? - N.G. Gordon - RadarSync
Jeremiah that is simply awful... sorry to hear that!!! Yikes, I need to go clean out my car and remove anything I'd cry about if it was stolen! eeeek! - Susan Beebe

Thing I don't like is that FF doesn't have a very good topic when the primary line is directed at twitter. There may or may not be a link to something after FF part. Which means FF becomes a bit of a treasure hunt. I like FF for commentary but I hate the initial post. - Justin Howard
SPAM. :) - Jason
BACON :-) - Stephane Tsacas
Even your archnemesis? - Erik K Veland
Mona :-) - Majento
Mmmmm. Bacon. - RobinDotNet
Erik: I would even follow Mike Arrington, yes. :-) - Robert Scoble
Keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer? - RobinDotNet
what are some other examples of 2010 web, Robert Scoble? - Joshua Lee
Ok Robert I got it ;) - Roldano De Persio of FF
Robert: Thanks mate, interesting and probably efficient idea. I'll do the same for quality content, tired of those "I just used whateveryoucallit.com to gain 300 new followers right now!". - Nir Ben Yona
whateveryoucallit.com domain name is already taken :-] - Stephane Tsacas
Hi Robert, I had to do the exact same thing to nail all the twit spam I was getting. Hope you get it all sorted! - James Brown
Even as we sit here, my iPhone dings with new follow e-mails from spam/marketing people. Sigh. - RobinDotNet
Stephane: LOL, probably. I took this line from Chris Brogan's "Twitter Etiquette Guide". - Nir Ben Yona
Robin: on Twitter, though, right? - Robert Scoble
wow been fascinating watching this exercise :-) - Peter du Toit (S.Africa)
So this is like a captcha? - Dylan Verheul
also on twitter? - Sinem Co
The joys of not being internet famous means I can check out followers personally, block where required and I've only ever got about 2 DM spam. But with the volumes that Robert gets, it's obviously not possible. - Rachel Clarke
TwitterEtiquetteGuide.com is available ;-) - Stephane Tsacas
I think Twitter needs something like captcha to keep the bots to a minimum, IMHO. - Dennis Jernberg
Nope, I'm just following here. - Robert Scoble
But feed your Tweets in here and what's the difference? - Robert Scoble
OK, thanks :) - Sinem Co
Hi Robert, I've been following you quite some time, and what you do here is very open and brave too, congrats! - Kaan Bingol
This must be a plot to move everyone to FriendFeed ;-) - Masatake E. Hori
Masatake: plot #458. - Robert Scoble
Great thanks for the offer and follow - Stephen Brown
Masatake: I think you're right. :-) - Joshua Lee
Robert -- yes, on twitter. It seems the more you tweet, and the more people you communicate with, the more spammers follow you. Hoping for auto-follows I guess (I disappoint them in that regard.) - RobinDotNet
No offense, but what is the utility of being "followed" by someone who already follows tens of thousands? - Derek Pangallo
Good way to filter, you know the spammers don't actually read anything or participate - Justin Luey
Derek: why don't you see http://friendfeed.com/scoblei... and see just how many people I touch. - Robert Scoble
What is the utility of being "followed" by someone who doesn't tweet and who follows thousands? What do they do, sit at their terminal and watch the tweets go by all day long? - RobinDotNet
hi Robert u r already following me how r u? - Gaith
I dont get it. - Andru Edwards
yeah? I think most spam bots have the AI to search for such threads! - Rohit
Derek: or how many people I interact with. Check here: http://friendfeed.com/scoblei... 28,000+ comments. - Robert Scoble
oh, hi there! - Jeremy
Gaith: doing fine, gotta work on my videos, but thought I'd do this instead. - Robert Scoble
Robin: I'm guessing the mass followers rarely take a look at the flow - it's about being able to talk about the numbers - Rachel Clarke
follow me on twitter please... - Özgür D. Cyric
First day on Friend Feed and Robert Scoble is available. What a welcome.... Carey@holisticdds - Carey O'Rielly
What will you do when the spammers/SEOs infest Friendfeed, as they will, or do you believe this is better crowdsourced and will be able to hold against the hordes? - Aaman (Clone of FF)
Rachel -- But numbers alone don't mean anything. Are they that shallow? That must be a stupid question. - RobinDotNet
Is this going to be the 'most-commented-ever' post on Friendfeed? 240+ already! - Mahendra (SkepticGeek)
Aaman: FriendFeed is FAR more defendable against spam than Twitter is. - Robert Scoble
and how would this benefit people who follow Robert Scoble? - Seyfi Erol
Mahendra: probably not. - Robert Scoble
That seems like a good idea, but I think you're already following a lot of these people - Carlton Prest
Seyfi: why don't you follow me and see how it goes? - Robert Scoble
I've gotten 4 follow e-mails since my first post here from people I don't want to follow. Do the bots start running right around midnight? - RobinDotNet
Mahendra, you're not following the threads in Russian (that's my only hint) :D - Micah Wittman
Robin: oh yes. But I'm never sure what's worse. the people who just want to talk about the numbers or the people they may be able to impress. - Rachel Clarke
Aaman - Friendfeed doesn't make link-tracking easy, so it's less interesting for spammers to infest. - Mahendra (SkepticGeek)
Is this a test of interaction or more likely a sort of audience verification? - Gilgamesh
Robin, it's 9am ! - Stephane Tsacas
Gilgamesh: it is what you want it to be. For me I followed you. - Robert Scoble
If twitter is noise, and FriendFeed is conversation, Robert Scoble followers are their own discussion. It's like using an entirely different website. - Carlton Prest
Rachel, that's a good point. Is Facebook the same way? I joined that and suddenly got all these people I've nothing in common with who want to be my friend. Creepy. - RobinDotNet
@Micah: Oh, good I don't read Russian! :) - Mahendra (SkepticGeek)
Scoble: you convinced me! (thought you just needed self-validation, sorry) - Derek Pangallo
Derek: heh, yeah, I am watching this, among other things running across my screen. - Robert Scoble
Robin: Facebook is the same but I think to a lesser extent - it's harder to find people I think. But still got a load of friend requests that I ignore as I don't know them - Rachel Clarke
Robin: you mean like people you went to high school with and didnt' like adding you on FB - Derek Pangallo
I already do. what i mean is if we don't keep FF, Twitter limited to our interests, wouldn't it be garbage we already try hard to get rid of. Or how far can we extend our interests in life or amount of information we consume? - Seyfi Erol
Derek -- I mean people I really have NO connection with at all. I've only friended a couple of people I work with, and 2 other real friends. I'm getting friend requests from people I don't know at all. - RobinDotNet
Seyfi: you haven't discovered FriendFeed's groups and lists yet, have you? - Robert Scoble
I got a Russian-speaking follower on Twitter. I didn't follow him because I don't understand a word he tweets. - Dennis Jernberg
Mahendra, And I've been told http://translatorize.com has successfully translated all 6000+ (oops - update: 7000+) comments http://friendfeed.com/ideali... from Russian to English :) - Micah Wittman
Thanks Robert! - Jan Ignatius from iPhone
Seyfi: you can separate your friends into lists. That way you can keep your quilting buddies separate from your football ones etc. - Robert Scoble
I'm the spammer u follow alrdy HA! - HootWise
Did you know that Facebook has started selling parts of itself to the Russians? At end of May, they sold 1.96% stake of Facebook to Russia's Digital Sky Technologies for $200M. - RobinDotNet
Robert: I shouldn't have underestimated you. You probably have started much longer comment threads on Friendfeed before. - Mahendra (SkepticGeek)
Mahendra, Robert, I agree, FF has been very good at keeping out junk - Aaman (Clone of FF)
Micah: Uh, wow! - Mahendra (SkepticGeek)
Mahendra: I have. I gave away $5,000 once and got more than 1,000 comments on that. But that cost me a lot of cash. Can't afford to do that again. - Robert Scoble
DST is run by Alisher Usmanov who is closely tied with Putin. You feel ok to that, but re-read the company's user agreement where it says it can share all of your info with third parties. Of course, it's irrelevant to this thread, but I thought it was interesting. - RobinDotNet
Robert: I think your Twitter follow is worth more than that? - Mahendra (SkepticGeek)
Even if it's a lame comment and I don't actually say anything? Woohoo! FF looks interesting anyway,,, - Matt Harward
Yes, Matt! :-) - Robert Scoble
I'm @odie on twitter - Odi Chi
FF is interesting assuming the topic is FF... and/or Scoble's next devilishly clever stunt to generate FF comments - John Hardy
John: there are lots of interesting topics here on FriendFeed. Did you know you could search by them based on number of likes? Click "Advanced Search" and try. - Robert Scoble
John: Nope. Twitter's 'bout Trends, FF's 'bout Friends. - Mahendra (SkepticGeek)
Very bold, I like it, are you going to keep the people you follow under 2000? - Joe Dawson from iPhone
Tell me the newest best way to use FriendFeed! - Shoichi
I notice that one of the prolific thought-leadering traffic drivers I follow on twitter basically tweets everything he reads, before he reads it. This has lead to spam a few times. disappointing. - Derek Pangallo
I'll not tell anyone ;) - PaperDoll
I hope I am interesting enough to be followed! lol - Carlton Hackett
Some of the reactions to what you're doing are pretty interesting, Robert. - ha3rvey (free hugs!)

Joining bandwagon. - mwydro
Yo Robert: a man has to do what a man has to do, so one surfer to another: go for it! - Geer
Here here! A good cleansing is good, now and then... Starting fresh is the way to go, get all of that nonsense out and maintain a core group of people for solid conversation! - Brian Partridge
Great taking the tour w/ you, Levar Burton & @VegasBill during CES 09 at the Atomic Testing Museum. I would appreciate the follow back. Thanks Robert! - Chris R
There is change in the air... - Zack Brandit
Chris: I'm already following you, no need to beg! :-) That was fun times, wasn't it? - Robert Scoble
You've got to admit anyone who's on friendfeed instantly gets more exposure since it nicely imports people's public @ reply's anyway? - Matt Randles
I'm a ff fan;) - Cheray Bressler from iPhone
Thanks for following back on Twitter Robert. Cheers from Las Vegas! - Vegas Bill
I'm pretty sure we're friends here, only just wish there was a easy way to check... and if there is, that some one will let me know.... - Grant Bierman
this is such a classic move! well played. - laura
So why can't SEO people be tech as well? Actually requires a good tech aptitude. - Paul M Evans from iPhone
I'd like to see how many comments this one gets :) and i'm assuming you mean follow here on friendfeed. - Bhowmik Shah
Make sense, Scoble :) - Grant Laird Jr
Just out of curiousity, why are there fewer spammers and bots on FF compared with Twiitter? Is it because they haven't discovered FF yet? - Sally Church from iPhone
there are occasionally spammers on FF but I think they mostly get handled quickly vs Twitter where more than occasionally clusters of spammers just follow each other... - Shannon Clark
Choose wisely :) - Ozkan Altuner
Go FF its the Best - Robert Wheeler
followww meee - Thomas Christory
Scoble-plicity .-) - Del_
I use TweetLater to vet new followers. Helps get rid of spammers fast. - Bob Morris (polizeros)
Wow! I've never seen so many people comment on Friendfeed as much as this! - Armand
Yo! peteryared on twiter :) - Peter Yared
This is #scoble at server irc.friendfeed.com I beleive ;-) - Stephane Tsacas
Your biggest fan and follower in Cambridge, UK. Thanks for the DuoFertility video. Great as ever. - Philip Baddeley
Fantastic, I want to be followed :-) - Antonio Correnti
What if your already following me? Do I still need to comment here? - CW™
Sally: I don't explain spam defenses in public. I don't want spammers to figure them out. But there are quite a few defenses against spam here. - Robert Scoble
Refollow me on Twitter! @carloscomputers - carloscomputers
nice one - Ken Post Jr
I was surprised about the spammer comments, until I started getting female nude model followers and I'm a women. Maybe a nude male model but not Sparkle or Hootie McBoob - Corrine Pearce
Corrine: hope you don't see that here on FriendFeed. - Robert Scoble
Why are you doing this? You have one of the best listening audiences on twitter! Is there a point to prove that we will post here or go to wefollow? - David Cole
Now those not on FF will miss this one;) - JP Holecka - Jaypiddy
David: actually that's not true. Most of the Twitter audience I had has moved over here. - Robert Scoble
I'm intrigued and will watch with interest -- and hey, you're always interesting. Well worth the follow! - Don Tamihere
real-time on FF is awesome - nchenga
David: and I can prove that. Twitter's audience has become less and less engaged lately. - Robert Scoble
Wow, powerful shift by Robert Scoble, I'm really interested in seeing how this works for you Scoble. I slept through all the big news here tonight. - Jimminy
Always up for your social explorations Robert. - JP Holecka - Jaypiddy
And you're not even halfway through the unfollowing process. :) - Ken Brady
wao, let's good. - naokits
Interesting experiment. This is probably one the most commented feedfriend threads in history! - Menno te Koppele
Plus, David, if you all are listening, you are listening because of my ability to find cool stuff. Mostly that's been because of FriendFeed over the past 18 months. Now I've seen how ascerbic Twitter's spammers have gotten on my accounts. - Robert Scoble
agree, it's an interesting experiment. - nchenga
Menno: actually it's not. There are many 1,000+ comment threads here. - Robert Scoble
Here's a search with all 1,000 comment threads displayed: http://friendfeed.com/search... - Robert Scoble
Interesting. This is going to boost 1000 egos for sure :-) - Freddie Benjamin
So will it be a matter of just trying to say ahead of the spammers by jumping from one early adopted social network to another? - JP Holecka - Jaypiddy
JP: no. I am not leaving Twitter. I AM, however, deleting all their accounts so I will no longer be passing them juice. - Robert Scoble
I wonder how will your FF homepage look like after this. - ahmet bulent
Does this make you anti-social media? - Cory Brown
To follow commenters from here on Twitter will be a lot of work for you Robert. Or do you have some magic tool that helps? - Tibor Holoda
Robert, how many of the 100k do you think you'll still be following when you are done? - RobinDotNet
~~~> Robert!! Follow me back again. [a] I'm a real fan of the @Scobleizer... and [b] I'm much nicer than some of these sassy bloofers. ;) - Kim Sherrell
1,100 - Robert Scoble
That's good to know. - George Hall (Australia)
So what if you have all 58k + comment on here? And you have to keep everyone! And your plan is foiled, sir. Okay give or take 10k for the neglected abandoned twitters and the spammers. Btw, you're already following me on both twitter and here. But come on, you're not really. : / - Lise
That's cool. I am finding the spammers too much to manage these days myself. - JP Holecka - Jaypiddy
I promise I want tell them - Noel Kelly
Because I can't keep myself from doing math, that's 1.1%. - RobinDotNet
Lise: I see you a few times a day, but you're right. Heheh. - Robert Scoble
Are you trying to make a point about FF v Twitter? I have spammy things to say about my amateur photography, potential homelessness, and run-ins with public-run health system in the US. Isn't all Twitter spam--just spam you want? :) - Dean Hall
the auto-refresh on this thread is mind-blowing, fun to watch - nchenga
Do you ever worry about SM burnout Robert? How do you pace your self? - JP Holecka - Jaypiddy
Interesting to note many of most commented threads are in languages other than English. Can we suggest FF has a better international appeal than Twitter? - Kaan Bingol
Good idea, as you say, stop juicing up the spammers - it'll be interesting to see the stats once you've finished. - Andrew Piggott
Dean: your Tweets aren't spam. I might keep you. Heheh. - Robert Scoble
I only followed people who were interesting to me, otherwise it is like trying to find a needle in a haystack of brain dumps. - Daniel Durrans
Exactly. So I expect to be cut. And considering I'm in a crowd of close to 60k, it'll be the same thing. - Lise
There should be a counter in front of the comments... - Willem Karssenberg
okay seriously ? - Asankhaya Sharma
What sort of comments do you want Robert? - Travis Koger
Lise: actually no. On FriendFeed I can absorb quite a few more people than on Twitter thanks to Groups. - Robert Scoble
a good cleansing is wise once in a while :) Power to the (real) people. - Benjamin
Travis: I'm already following you. - Robert Scoble
Lise: and because FriendFeed's search engine is better here too. - Robert Scoble
Robert, yeah I know. Thought you might have meant for your secretscoble twitter account ;) - Travis Koger
It's kind of like a giant SM break up Robert. *Oh the hearts you are breaking...* - JP Holecka - Jaypiddy
I'm fairly selective about who I follow and I follow so maybe you will follow me back! - Richard Cunningham from iPod
Robert, care to explain how you use groups in this kind of context? Because I don't get the point of following people who are then placed into a "I don't read this much" kind of group. How do you use groups so that you're (1) not overwhealmed, and (2) actually read what people are saying? - Ian Betteridge
How many people do you expect to end up with, Robert? What is a reasonable number? - Lise
You don't have to follow me on Twitter. I think the FriendFeed party palace is mighty fine. - Josette Torres from fftogo
(Not that I'll probably see your response, btw - something at the bottom of 350+ responses is effectively buried until FF has better threading tools. Which I'm sure it will, some day.) - Ian Betteridge
@Ian I believe that it may come in Google Wave. - JP Holecka - Jaypiddy
@Daniel - ditto, and for me it is generally development related also. Robert - I know you have to try and keep up with everything going on in the social media space, but I'm always surprised when people follow so many others as it must be extremely difficult to find the wheat in amongst all the chaff. - Donald Matheson
Robert: I did not know about that search trick. Thanks! - Menno te Koppele
looks like a lot of comments - Rory Partalis
Ian: a "I don't read this much" kind of group is awesome for serrendipity. Also, anyone who I find there who is high value gets quickly moved to a smaller group. - Robert Scoble
What? Are you saying you're not following me already...? ;-) - Jarno Peschier
Lise: on Twitter? Less than 2,000. I can't follow more. - Robert Scoble
Done. :) - Smeerch
Jamo: I am already following you. Scott: why not? I am already following you too. - Robert Scoble
Robert, it might be a problem for me re-gaining your following as my tweets are not 100% English only (whether that means trying to speak English or no English at all ;). How do you deal with occasional non-English tweeters? As that's clearly a noise for you. - Tibor Holoda
if only twitter were as engaging as FriendFeed has become, and as instantaneous as things like this comment thread, then maybe I would use it more. Hence why I'm all for unfollowing who you conceive as uninteresting; and if that includes me, then so be it! - Nick Soden
Tibor: I just skip over most of them. Sometimes I translate them to see if I was right. - Robert Scoble
It is my hope that I provide you with something as interesting as what you provide me with. Either way, I will continue to peruse your posts with interest. - James (!?)
hmmm - imran
Hi, I'm still newish to this social media thang - but good on you for taking a stand. - Jus
Do you prefer night owls? Because what about all the poor people in SV who went to bed at a decent hour and missed your post? Bummer for them, huh? - RobinDotNet
I'm back from picking my wife up at the airport and ran across this on my way back to sleep. - nuBound CEO - Mark
shhhhh - Luigi Filograna
Robin: heh, all the real geeks in SV are still up. - Robert Scoble
Interesting idea. I firmly believe SEOs are working day and night to figure out FF. - Ian Ceicys
Ian: I bet they are too since FF is starting to pull better on Google than Twitter is. - Robert Scoble
I am such a sheep. @markmeyerphoto - Mark Meyer from iPhone
I have nothing interesting to say, don't follow me. - burc sahinoglu from BuddyFeed
what about me? ... sniff - Andy Ghozali
Me me me ;) - Alemsah Ozturk from iPhone
looking for owls? - Dave Senior
Well I am out for the night. Good luck on your mass un-follow Robert. I look forward to your report on the results. - JP Holecka - Jaypiddy
Robert, this is looking like a long thread already. :) - Robert Miller
Andy, Alemsah, and Dave, I'm already following you. - Robert Scoble
Do you consider FF to be less spammy if you are trying to find your new Twitter "friends" here? - Dušan Šimonovič
Dusan: are you a spammer? - Robert Scoble
lmao on here you are, not on the big T tho nevermind I will follow you there too, been a fan.... - Andy Ghozali
bold and yet gutsy move...love the trending topic already! - Feersum Engine
Follow on FriendFeed or Twitter? :P Or Google Rader? :P - Qbat
Türkçe ne diyor arkadaş ? - Sinan İŞLER
The wild and woolly blogosphere is replete with all sorts of good stuff. Hard to follow 500 people, let alone 1000. I applaud you for trying to take the reins. - Jack B
hey there - deadmanwriting
And will you unfollow me if I send a DM ;)? - Sudar
I don't get it - Sheldon Levine
Qbat: I'll follow here on FriendFeed. Sheldon what don't you get? - Robert Scoble
Sudar: no, if you send me DMs here, that's good. - Robert Scoble
How long is the unfollow process going to take? And do you think FF will have as much noise as Twitter? - Duc Nguyen
So it's Twitter DM that you don't like? - Sudar
Sudar: right. - Robert Scoble
I'll make one comment and raise you two more. :) - Bryan Lee from iPhone
And will you follow me? don't know if you ever have, but I am following you on twitter. - Jus
Hey, Thanks for following me - Michael_techie
Would love your company, Robert. - Daniel Zarick from iPhone
Even worse is Twitter DM spam, of course. - Dennis Jernberg
It funny you put spammers, SEO experts, bots, social media experts all in one bucket. What are you implying? Btw, I'm none of these... - Peter Chee
.. and it works!! Just got a mail saying Robert is following me now... :) - Sudar
Peter: I did that to piss off the SEO experts. :-) - Robert Scoble
This makes me realise that posting from Twitter as opposed to "to twitter from FF" allows the Twitter stream to grow on the back of FF comments ! otherwise not : as in my case - what do you think Robert ? FF to Twitter ? Or FF aggregating all your tweets ? - Nicholas Paul Gordon from iPhone
Nicholas: shhhh, you are discovering my secrets! I'm doing more and more from FriendFeed lately. - Robert Scoble
I comment and you follow me. Its totally worth it - Arvind
Do I have to follow you too? :) - Mobilepax
Arvind: even better I was following you before. Mobilepax: no. I really don't care about followers. Inbound is more important than who is listening to you. - Robert Scoble
and does that mean I have to write in English from now on :) - Mobilepax
Awesome. I'm the 439th commenter. :D - Jhay Rocas
Mobilepax: no. I translate interesting posts to English. - Robert Scoble
More than 400 comments in about 2 hrs. Not bad. I wonder if there'd be nearly as many twitter responses/mentions. - Franz Binder
Franz: no way. Not even close. - Robert Scoble
Nice one - it's cool that you give friendfeed (and all the commenters of course ;-) much kudos. - Alex Vermeule (@alexve)
If you just follow everyone in this thread, won't you just wind up with noise from 'engaged' people. I mean, does this solve the problem? - Missionary Broadcasting
Good thing its 4am and my car alarm went off, otherwise you wouldnt follow me! I had to look up a video online how to break the key fob apart becuase aparently its battery leaked and was self activating the panic switch. Damn VWs! a replacement key is only like 150 bucks!! - Charlieray
Missionary: no. You have not discovered that FriendFeed has groups and MUCH BETTER search. - Robert Scoble
Its funny that if you say "SEO" on twitter its an instant 10 followers - Charlieray
A friendfeed promotion experiment? - John Mandia from iPhone
What is a comment? - Meriç Dağlı
I'd rather follow you on Friendfeed, Robert. Your tweets get cross posted here anyway, and there's a much greater sense of engagement in that conversation than there is over at Twitter. - Andrew Terry
John: no. Meric: you just made one. - Robert Scoble
John: I've been promoting FriendFeed for 18 months. Where have you been? - Robert Scoble
FF rocks :o) - Cowan Group
Everyone that "follows" you really does know you love FF. So did you build a tool to follow everyone back that comments on here or are you seriously going to manually follow people back? - Peter Chee
Theres 451+ comment here, do you really follow *everyone*? - Fajar Nurdiansyah
woohoo! I'm in :P - Tim Bergman
Because I am up at 1:20 a.m. PT, why not... I must be your target audience then. - Georgiana Comsa
It must show you how many people enjoy engaging with you Robert, with the number of people posting here. - Steve Farnworth
Amazing to see the comment thread to this entry expand constantly in real time. - Christian Bolstad
Peter: I've manually followed everyone on this thread so far. - Robert Scoble
Peter: although to be fair I've already followed quite a few people who have commented here. - Robert Scoble
Hi, you are already following me. My solution to get rid of spammers on Twitter is to block them, that is what I do. If everyone started blocking them, I think things would improve - Asgeir
Are you going to sleep tonight, or watch the fun?:) - Aaman (Clone of FF)
is that enough to get followed? - Ouriel Ohayon
do I accumulate credit, maybe towards an afterlife? You are already following me :-) - Anindya Chatterjee
really anyone? :D - Francesco Marconi
What about the SEO experts who accidentally find this feed? - phil baumann
Robert, but you're following commenters here, not on Twitter, right? Not that i care about Twitter that much, as for me it's just a pipeline. FF and FB are conversational platforms for me, or the places i hang out these days. - Tibor Holoda
Spammers being blocked doesnt do anything as they are hoping for that 1 in 100 hit of someone clicking that link, eventually they get banned and create a new account. - Charlieray
Aaman: Sleep? some of us are just starting the day. We're waiting for the US to go to sleep so we can talk about you ;-) - Rachel Clarke
the term SEO expert is a crock of shit - Charlieray
like that's gonna work... - thinkingpot
I hope you like hype machine loved tracks. - Neil Godfrey
FriendFeed is better only if U want feedback and have the time to check it out. - Marko Dvornik
Hello from the UK... - robkeynes
Marko: not true. It's better because it has very little spam. It's better because it has a better search engine. It's better because it has comments and likes. It's better because it's an aggregator. And more. - Robert Scoble
you don't have to follow back. but i'll take the chance to say great work with building 43. - Alexandre Gamela from twhirl
where's the 'hide button'??? :-D - Massimo MaxKava Cavazzini
Massimo: right up top. Heheh. Alexandre: thank you! - Robert Scoble
After 6 months out of the social media loop I came back to a whole bunch of follows that I either couldn't remember who they were or why I had followed them - how can that be relevent? So, I culled my follows back to less than 200. I'm now just looking to find the signal amongst the noise. - Colin Walker
What about FriendFeed? Is there any @notsecretscoble too? - Ludwik C. Siadlak
Friendfeeding for Scoble to follow me while on vacation in Montauk. There is something wrong with me. - Mitchell Schneider
Mitchell -- you just don't want to miss the fun. - RobinDotNet
robkeynes -- nice to see you up and about - RobinDotNet
Ludwik: no, because here I can just start a new list of users. - Robert Scoble
Well, this has been fun to watch, but it's almost 2 a.m. and I have to be very smart tomorrow morning, which is easier when I'm not too tired, so everyone have a great [whatever comes next in your time zone]. - RobinDotNet
Robert, I'm trying to understand this follow/unfollow strategy you are applying as Napoleon Bonaparte on a battle field ;) Interested to know the result - Thierry R. Andriamirado
pushing this thing to its limits just to see what happens? interesting. - livefast
I really do think the way Twitter has changed in the last few months, with all the media attention, certainly begs for it to be used differently now. - Nicola Quinn
SEO what?! :) - Kobayashi
Wow that's a whole lot of people commenting in the last 2 hours, Rob - How many of the new people you are following from this list are NEW to friendfeed? (estimate?) - Roy Herrod
i'm new! - Luigi Filograna
Roy: 40% - Robert Scoble
Does this constitute a comment or are you looking for some insightful commentary on the state of new media? ;) - Iwan
40%? This must have turned out to be one of the biggest promotions in FF history, even if it wasn't intended that way. BTW, I'm new to FF too. - Dennis Jernberg
guess it's good to clean up the list once in a while. - shadow
Ha ha, nice.... So any major ramifications from the mass unfollow? - Alistair (alpinefolk)
Alistair: other than losing about 1,000 followers so far? No major ramifications. - Robert Scoble
Robert, I'm coming out with a project in the Continuing Medical Education field in the next weeks so if you are interested, I wouldn't mind if you will follow me :-) - Marco Fabbri
Won't tell anybody, specially Seo people, ssshhhh..... - Giorgio Burlini from iPhone
No comment ... :) - Charlie Anzman
Too late. - Alex Gonzalez
You had me at don't tell the spammers... - Sean Kelly
I think it's a hoot. Now I'm wondering whether to reverse my recent move towards following more, not less. I do believe that from my experience so far FF is more attuned to building/maintaining community than is Twitter. - Des Walsh
Great move Robert - I like it a lot - Robert Davies
Des: on FriendFeed you can do both strategies at the same time. You can follow a lot more in one list while following even fewer in another. - Robert Scoble
Des - Once more people re-engage in the conversation here, they'll realize the continuing outright potential of Friendfeed. I still some here before I read my e-mail - Charlie Anzman
Hi Mr Scoble, I'm with you (but on a smaller scale) I unfollowed about 150 users on Friday, felt good! I pretty much hang out in FF now at my home page and my groups - Lee from iPod
Robert - I'am definitely not a spammer when it comes to broadcasting anything to people, who doesn't want to hear it :) but I do sometimes respond (mostly on twitter so @reply) to some tweets not aimed on me, but that's what everybody actually asks for when publicly broadcasting anything. - Dušan Šimonovič
Good idea about the unfollow. It was an interesting experiment whilst it lasted but given your lifestyle I'm sure most Twitter messages just passed you by. I never DM'd you however, it was nice to think that I had the option if I wanted to. Anyway I've been on FF for ages now, and what I need is a good FF app (for pc), any ideas anyone? - Nick Bristow
FriendFeed is a feed reader. Yes or no?
Yes, with filters, friends, likes and stuff - Charbax
yes, I think that is what it is. - Cat West
No, can't read full text for blog-length items. - Bruce Lewis
Yes. I'd have to say it is a feed aggregator...it pulls in feeds from Google Reader, Twitter, Disqus, Flickr, Delicious, Digg, etc. - Kenneth
But why can't we just import our OPML or sinle RSS feeds somewhere into FriendFeed without having to dump those feeds one by one in groups, that doesn't make sense - Charbax
no. can't simply mark items as read, subscription is not a simple one click operation - James Beake
It is pretty remarkable that after all this time FF still can't import/export subscription lists. - Dave Winer
FriendFeed should somehow automatically group feed items so I don't get bombarded by 100 people all retweeting, liking and commenting the same things.. It should basically create a techmeme of feed items on-the-fly - Charbax
Wow delete much Dave? - Bill Heslin
in a non-rss kind of way it's a feed breeder -- aggregates feeds and conversation and distributes back out also - Adrian Chan
No, because it doesn't read feeds, it just posts headlines. - Louis Gray
No, I need full-text feeds. Headlines don't count. - Alex Scrivener
yes - Wayne Sutton
it is a feed reader and a lot more. its ability to function as a feed reader is probly one of its weakest functions. (so far) one of its strongest functions is to start discussions which are so damn easy and efficient that i can see ppl giving up on blogging and sticking to friendfeed. - Freddie Benjamin
yes. it has a summary of the posts it aggregates. err yeah - Alfredo
No, FriendFeed is not a feed reader - Bill
I prefer Google Reader, because it's easier to privately star stuff in GReader than it is to reshare stuff to a private FriendFeed room. Plus you can mark items as read. I actually view http://friendfeed.com/lastfmf... via Google Reader rather than FriendFeed. - John E. Bredehoft from fftogo
Can I read feeds in FriendFeed - yes. Does that mean it is a feed reader - no. The question is to fraught with subjectivity in the end. But if you forced me to say what it is - it's a data aggregator and transformation platform. - AJ Kohn
Sure, like a search engine is a feed reader. - Daniel Dulitz
Nope - no way. - Julie
Imaginary Friend makes it so - Bryan R. Adams
Yes, for some types of feeds. I.e. anything not requiring much in the way of item payloads. - Kevin Johnson
FriendFeed is def a feed reader. I prefer it to Google Reader. - Shawn Hickman
FF is Live Feed Reader - Nitin Nanivadekar
It is not now ... but getting dangerously closer ... - Amani
FF is a social network, a chat apparatus, a communication device, AND a feed reader. - Helen Sventitsky
it is for me now. Pushed all my twitter news, rss news to a select room i created. Allows me to see real time info - Fake Elmo
I read feeds on friendfeed - BEX
no - Matthew
It depends. FriendFeed is whatever you make of it. If you import RSS feeds, then FriendFeed will be an aspect of a feed reader. - imabonehead
FriendFeed and Twitter - the best tech space. - Igor Poltavskiy
Nope, but it's a Social Feed Reader. You read items sourced and recommended (= posted) by your friends. - Ahsan Ali aka. Slick
Yes - Justin Yost
s/is/can be used as/ -- Yes. - Rahsheen ™, Coach of FF
Since you can only read headlines and not full posts, I wouldn't call FF an RSS reader just yet. - Chris Rossini from BuddyFeed
I would call Friend Feed and twitter "feed discovery engines" and "content discussion facilitators" rather than feed readers. I still use Google Reader -- too much in depth content and other things that I can't really get from FF. - Travis B. Hartwell
Yes in some sense - Håkan Dahlström
indeed - americanm
Isn't FriendFeed a feed aggregator? - Chris Heath
It is, if you actually read the feeds. - Vijayendra (V-Mo) Mohanty
yep! - Jay
Just as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are turtles. - Parth Awasthi
Yes, it is. But that's just the beginning. - Mark Evans
No, I would say FF is a feed streamer, not reader. (and a mediocre aggregator) - William Mougayar
So if it's an aggregator of feeds, how is it a feed reader? Just to be clear, my answer to Dave's question is: No, ff is not a feed reader. - Chris Heath
Social Feed Aggregation* - Chris Heath
* see site for details, some restrictions apply - Chris Heath
+1 for no because it doesn't grab content, only headlines. - Brett Kelly
thoughts' reader:) - Igor Poltavskiy
Out of roughly 50 responses: 53% YES, FF is a feed reader, 31% NO, 16% didn't exactly answer the question. - Mark Evans
I've been debating whether Twitter is replacing Google Reader and/or Techmeme. Friendfeed definitely could be one too. - Mario Sundar
Not a feed reader for text posts (blogs). Feed reader for everything else. - Mohamed J
better one than twitter, but NO - Dobromir Hadzhiev
Better than twitter but it's not a full replacement, either - Michael Fidler
Yes. Once FriendFeed decides to turn on something like what Twitter just destroyed (replies) it would be even better - Antonio Altamirano
A feedreader, no! There is no way anyone can read multiple blogs and communicate at the same time in the real-time realm - Joe Dawson
Similar aspects I suppose but RSS is just available, whereas FriendFeed is something like SRSS - Syndicated RSS. Or maybe CRSS - consolidated RSS. - Rick Cogley
I used to subscribe to my friends RSS feeds using Google Reader, but quit when FF came about because they were so hard to keep up with and not everything had an RSS feed. I guess that makes it a feed reader, so yes. - Jesse Hattabaugh
Yep, but not as good as Google Reader... yet. :-) - Kol Tregaskes
No. FriendFeed is for Friends. Feeds are not friends. Though, I would love to use FriendFeed for feeds also - if only it was easy to separate people I follow and blogs (non-personalized) I read. - Ihar Mahaniok
No it's not... you cannot read full posts there. - Bhavesh
No. Friendfeed was not intentended to be feed reader. Although I use this room as my second feed reader http://friendfeed.com/mix-room - arjo
No. You have to leave the site to read. It would be nice if Google Reader live updated like FF or the option to view the full post in FF existed. - Peter Warnock
No, it lacks some of the key features needed in a feed reader but has other features that make it a different thing altogether - M F
No, you have to leave FriendFeed to see the article. - Mike Roberts
No, it's a social network. I talk to people on FriendFeed, I don't read blogs. - Larry Hudson
No. - dkb
The answer is either: no, not at all. Or yes, but it is a very limited one that is very unlimited in terms of others' voices. - C. K. Sample III
To a point it is. - Adam Martin
It's a real-time chat room. - William Mougayar
FF is not your father's feed reader. It is a new gen user sweatshop producing metadata for its own search engine and maybe track equivalent. - Mindaugas Dagys
It certainly depends on how you use readers. FriendFeed isn't going to do everything I use Google Reader for. That being said, FriendFeed would probably work better for many of feeds I actually subscribe to. - Camden
a more customizable feed reader - feed reader to a lifestream - Elizabeth Koh
yepper! - Susan Beebe
it was - Alessandro Lanni
Yes, *but* (and this is a big one), it does not provide enough facility to serve as a non-realtime reader. I cannot pick up where I left off on a feed or know what I read or didn't read. It lacks the controls to be effective in that space which, I think, is a critical feature of a feed reader. - Kevin Kuphal
no - Marcel Janus from twhirl
Read feeds on Friendfeed Don't make Friendfeed a feed reader. - Lucio Riccardi - CantorJF
no, I can't track what I've read and what I haven't. - You.
I think its more of a meta-feed reader in a microscale. It picks up on the feeds of others, who in turn are reading the news rss feeds, thus meta. It's also on a microscale because, as mentioned before it's not real time, it's only the headlines with no descriptions and it still connects to the echo chamber as opposed to outside world. - Shane Tilton
Well, compare this http://ff.im/2RXFH to this http://is.gd/zO1f . The question should be, how good is FreindFeed as a Feed Reader? It's bringing more value to the use of RSS feeds; more than just presenting them, regardless of each item being full post or just headline. - David Bausola
Dave, Could FriendFeed be a good email client? - David Bausola
FriendFeed is a task list. Yes or no? - You.
FF is my magazine for browsing. I'm not catching up on FF posts like I do in Google Reader. I check the front page of FF, drop some comments, and then move on while it stays open in another tab. - Joel Zehring
No, but that doesn't make it inferior. It's a wholly different animal. - Daniel Miessler
(Of 94): Y:16 | N:27 | (?):51 - answers on this thread so far (based on this script: http://wittman.org/project... ) - Micah Wittman
Not necessarily. If all my RSS subscriptions were in Friendfeed, it would move way too fast. RSS is something I can still take at my own pace. Which is why I don't think it's dead, like some people would say. - Robert de Castro from twhirl
Nope, not for me. - Adnan
It's an improved feed reader. - Diego Espinoza V.
No way. Nothing beats a good google reader/postrank/feedly combo. Oh, unless google's servers are not responding like today, in which case friendfeed might be a nice backup. - Mike Elliott
I'd say no, because it's the conversations that seem to have more draw / weight than the content (like a slashdot). It's a fuzzy line though, I could easily see the argument for. - mikepk
Both. Depends on the user. - David Damore
I tried to use it as FeedReader, but without being able to view full posts, it just didn't work. - James Ostheimer
No. It's way better! - David Cook from fftogo
I'm torn on how to answer this. I've been back and forth with Google Reader and FF. If there was a simple way to import all my GR feeds into FF and de-dup it would help some. Sometimes all I want to do is quickly scan what's new and GR is fast, in fact rather amazingly so on the iPhone. But just reading feeds can be like empty calories. Having real discussions on selected topic has... more... - Tom Parish
Yes. - Steve Rubel
Technically, yes. But it doesn't serve the same function as a dedicated feed reader. - John Federico
I don't really get the "FriendFeed is a feed reader" logic. Is TechMeme a feed reader? I mean, I can't actually *READ* feeds in FriendFeed, I just get links to articles. - Ken Sheppardson
what friendfeed does best is create an environment for people to connect and have conversations. It is more a networking tool than a reading tool. Sometimes you want to go to a bar an network and sometimes you want to go to a library and read. - Edwin Khodabakchian
Ken, yeah you can only read the headlines (or maybe the first sentence or two if the feed is set up to do a first comment type thing here) but past that... you're not reading the story/article/blogpost in friendfeed - you might discuss it within friendfeed (which is awesome, btw) but once again - NO - friendfeed is not a feed reader - Chris Heath
No. It is a social feed aggregator with filters. It's limited in that you can read feeds of existing FriendFeed users, groups, or external feeds by creating "Imaginary Friends". However, Imaginary Friends is a rather cumbersome way to add external feeds. No facility exists for easily adding a list of feeds such as by importing an OPML file. - Derek Mahar
in part yes. - Thomas Hawk
An interactive feed reader, yes - Murat Gök
No - I can't read the articles right on FriendFeed. It also doesn't require RSS to publish. - Jesse Stay
No - to read the blogs and articles I still need Google Reader. - Antoine Bertier
No, because -- in addition to what William Mougayar said -- there's no tagging of articles (just liking). - Kawika Holbrook
No. Feeds are the internet data, tv, radio, cd/dvd/comic book collections and plumbing in the house. But people living in the house is the lead story. - Micah Wittman
I can't answer yes or no : it is a social feed agregator - Stanislas Jourdan
a feed reader, yes, and much more. I use it more and more - Nadine Pestourie
No, because beyond choosing who I follow, I have no choice in what the rest of you put in it. I propose that FriendFeed is a "social media service." - David Chartier from BuddyFeed
No, I still use Google Reader to stay up-to date...to much noise on FriendFeed even with filters. - Rajiv Doshi
It's interesting to see everyone who says it's not a feed reader. It most definitely is. You can subscribe to RSS feeds here. So it is defacto a feed reader. Now, is it a good one? Not if you want more than headlines. If you want full text Google Reader or other readers are much better. - Robert Scoble
@Robert you got a point here. Does this mean it "might" be our future feed reader with a bit of improvement? - giuseppe c. | markgreene
I think Google Reader is moving more toward a FriendFeed model with all of the Share and Comment features they have been adding, but they are fundamentally different because there is no post feature with any RSS reader. - Brandon Hall
As i said elsewhere, Google Reader is my favorite feed reader because i can mark things as read/unread, so i don't miss anything. FF will never get this feature because the goal in FF is to go back to items you liked or commented. On Greader, once you've read it, you don't go back. As a consequence, Greader will remain my favorite feed reader. - Stanislas Jourdan
giuseppe: I haven't used Google Reader much since I've gotten addicted to friendfeed. I always seem to get the most important news here first and when I go to Google Reader it is all old to me. I used to be Google Reader's top user, so this change in my behavior is interesting to me. - Robert Scoble
Sure it is--though I don't is as such - Rob Michael (Atmos Trio)
With Google Reader shortcuts, i can skip very quickly between many items so I can scan much more information efficiently. However, on Greader you've to make a high selection of good feeds you really want to read fequently. Otherwise, it becomes evil! - Stanislas Jourdan
absolutely! - Sinem Co
Yes, but it's a "newspaper" style feed reader, as opposed to an "inbox" style reader. - Tristan Seligmann
totally disagree with Tristan - Stanislas Jourdan
Yes - Arda Çetin
For me, yes. At least in part. I recently created a News group and added a few news feeds to it (techmeme etc). I then switched on desktop notifications for this group so I effectively now have a real time feed reader / news ticker. - Jamie
Jamie, I don't think it is worth. With this system you don't enjoy the FF community (i guess nobody "like" your entries or comment them so that you don't see what's important). Moreover you don't have benefit from Greader shortcuts and read/unread status. - Stanislas Jourdan
No, friendfeed is not just a feedreader, feedly do a better job for feeds reading. - David Foucher
BTW in my opinion, the interest of FF is that people select the items they share so that you get the best in your feeds - Stanislas Jourdan
Pretty much yes.though thats not its primart function. - Abhishek
yes, it's true and http://friendfeed.com/technol... doing that things ;-) - Sakib Mahmud
FriendFeed is also a feed that goes to my google reader :-) - David Foucher
Yes, but only one facet of many. It's a poor feed reader if you plan on reading everything. It's a good one if you plan on only reading what is deemed popular by those you follow. - xero
Stanislas - I think you misinterpreted me. I don't add the news feeds to my profile - I subscribe to them as they are already on FF. So for high volume RSS feeds like TechMeme, TechCrunch and so on I just view them as real time notifications. I don't need them piling up as unread items in Google Reader, which I use solely for low volume, high quality feeds where I need to see every item (daring fireball, carnage4life, codinghorror etc) - Jamie
Jamie : Ok I understand. In fact you made a friendlist for News feed more than a News "room" (?) - Stanislas Jourdan
UPDATE: (Of 145): Y:27 | N:43 | (?):75 - answers on this thread so far (based on this script: http://wittman.org/project... ) - Micah Wittman
Definitely Yes. - stark
No, it doesn't show full feeds...only titles. - Alex Scoble
Yes. - Bill Romanos
Clearly there's a whole lot of variation in what people actually expect from a "feed reader". Seems like some people think it means "anything that uses RSS/Atom to generate a list of web pages" - Ken Sheppardson
and now I really want that there would be a feature to "unsubscribe from comments"... I am getting every phrase in my gtalk :) - Ihar Mahaniok
Hence the inclusion of the word "feed". :) - Kelly McAlearney
Yes, a Feed reader of «Friends'» Feeds -- make it «Fellows'» or «Follows'» -- with steroids (conversations). - Jorge Martins Rosa
Ff technically reads feeds but that is not where their value - aggregation -is. It is a discovery platform powered by RSS and API-based clients can potentially fill the perceived expectation gap with current feed readers. - Alberto Saavedra from Nambu
Yes, but with added value, in that we can discuss aggregated content on the fly, including photos, video, music, etc., not just blogs and text posts. - Cathryn Hrudicka
Not yet. It will get there. News outside tech is still scarce on FF - Francine Hardaway from BuddyFeed
No, and yes - Christian Burns
........what if it was?? Leave Friendfeed a-l-o-n-e !!! please !! .. leave it alone , Dave ! .. please : ==== http://gog.is/chris+crocker - Petr Buben
Ihar - the notifications section of your settings lets you choose which friend lists go to IM, email, and the desktop client... in lieu of frienfeed allowing us to unsub from each thread you can use the friend lists to section off the stuff you do and don't want going to your IM client - Chris Heath
FriendFeed functions like a feed reader in that it gets (most of) its content from other sources. I don't believe it stores copies of the results (would it even be authorized to do so??) so I don't see how it could ever provide search capability. Big difference from TW which has its own content DB - David Sanger
Yes. you import feeds, I've done this many times with 'imaginery friends' - Jeremiah Owyang
FriendFeed is definitely a feed reader, since most of the content you'll find is brought in from RSS sources, such as YouTube or a personal blog. - Thomas Ward
I love questions and answers like this -- They prove my thesis that "nobody gets anything," which, of course, is an ironic way of saying, "everyone gets anything in their own way." Of course, FriendFeed is a news reader. And of course it's not. (Me, personally. I like my "readers" to have an export feature, i.e., OPML) - Rex Hammock
I like my readers to have an OPML *import* feature, too! - Derek Mahar
or even an rss import for anything other than my own feeds - Chris Nixon from IM
Chris, you can import one or more RSS feeds by creating an "Imaginary Friend" and adding those feeds. It's better than nothing, but not nearly as convenient as OPML import. - Derek Mahar
Its a bit convoluted. I'll stick with a feed reader for reading feeds. FriendFeed is about my friends feeds. - Chris Nixon from IM
It's the big-ass river of RSS. I like it. - Pete Gilbert
Chris, I agree! Friendfeed is more of social feed aggregator than a reader. Google Reader is a good reader, but unlike Friendfeed, it doesn't (yet) allow you to share a set of feeds by default. You must explicitly share each item. It also doesn't appear to make comments public. - Derek Mahar
Actually, I think I was incorrect when I stated that Google Reader comments are not public. I do see comments that others have posted to friends' shared items, so I guess comments must be public. - Derek Mahar
Yes, FriendFeed qualifies as a feed reader. - Mike Reynolds
If it is a feed reader, it sucks. There's no way to view the content of the RSS feed items. I have to click each and every story to read it. Headlines only? No thanks. I'd say no, because compared to Google Reader, Bloglines, NetNewsWire, FeedDemon, it fails as a feed reader. - Bwana ☠
I'm with Bwana (it also has no import/export subscription function). I have lobbied for an iGoogle like popup in the past so I will put in my .02 here as well. I would like it to be a good feed reader but it just doesn't cut it now. - Brian Sullivan
Yes. FriendFeed is a form of a feed reader ;) - Nicholas James
hoped so, but not yet - Peter Efland
I re-iterate my earlier No vote. A good feed reader like Google Reader or Bloglines remembers the items that you've read, but this memory is absent from Friendfeed. - Derek Mahar
Louis Gray
Twitter's Cap of 2,000 Following In Action!
0.jpe
As mentioned earlier today, Twitter seems to have capped your ability to follow at 2,000 people, which just so happens to be exactly where I am. The goal, in theory, is to stop marketing-oriented spammers, but it could be another way to reduce stress on the system. So what should I do now, delete "less favored" people, or wait for Twitter to figure this out? - Louis Gray from email
Maybe it's the legacy talking, but I'm really not bothered by this. :P - l0ckergn0me
I can see why they do it, but it does suck for the people who do it legitimately and are not using stupid mass follow scripts. - David Risley
I'm not super-concerned either, but it does answer why all of a sudden, I started getting these errors last week. It could be part of their "Making Progress On Spam" initiative via the blog, but it hasn't been spelled out all that clearly. - Louis Gray
let blame this one on Scobles... :)- - Peter Dawson
Louis, I think cap is more of the architecture the system. Making it into a more robust platform. Now watermarks have been set, it becomes easier to build consistency of experience and application behavior. <Edit > wait for Twitter to figure it out.. Marketing spammers are targeting the 'stupid' one that have the auto follow !! - Peter Dawson
gotta like it, if I'm the one you are trying to follow! - Ben Hedrington
I don't think there should be limits like this, but I guess everything can't be infinite - Rahsheen ™, Coach of FF
I honestly am indifferent about it; Twitter is going to hell and i tried my best to convert it; oh well, Hell has cookies - Gordon Swaby
I"m only following 49... with 106 followers.. - Ian May
so what do you think, Louis, is benhedrington worth going to the mat for? - Nathan Rein
I'm sure I can find someone to unfollow in exchange for Ben. - Louis Gray
Twitter needs to build in groups functionality a la tweetdeck for following 2K+ to even be practical. - Nicholas Molnar
Louis: You need to convince the new people to head over here :) - Justin Korn
I'm just curious what the rationale is for following that many people. - Paul Rodriguez
Well, maybe that's why Louis always seems to know what's going on before anybody else. - Rahsheen ™, Coach of FF
I've noticed that most of the time I get followed by somebody with a big number, it tends to be marketing play. It triggers the email to you and then you go look and click on their bio link which takes you to the pitch. Very irritating. I always block em. - Mark Schulz
@Paul Rodriguez, I was wondering that too. I wouldn't have even guessed there are 2000 interesting people in the world </cynicism>, but what fascinate me is that i'm following like 83 people and only about 14 of them tweet regularly. I can assume most of those 2000 do not tweet regularly. Add in the fact that I'm a WAHM to two toddlers, and do other stuff, there'd be a lot of stuff I'd miss. - Anika
New profit center? Sorry, but now you'll have to join Twitter Pro .... - Charlie Anzman
Info restrictions suck:( - Igor Poltavskiy
Very interesting. System limits is going to be a topic that we all work through in this early phase of the Social Web. It seems to me that it's reasonable to cap the number one follows to 1,000 or 2,000. On the flipside, one would clearly like to enable a very high number of followers. With respect to bi-directional connections, the real number should max at 1,000 to 2,000... - John McCrea
This is awesome! Incidentally, Scoble (@Scobleizer) is still following over 30K. - Vincent van Wylick
So where is the point following 30k people? You might as well hit the main timeline. The only thing that is bad about this limit is that it was not there from the beginning. - Alexander Kohlhofer
@kevinrose: 56K+. Losing 54K+? - Igor Poltavskiy
so what's going to happen to those who follow over 2000? - Wayne Sutton
you follow two. thousand. people.??? never mind twitter; there may be a law against that. - jeneane sessum
I like the new limit. I cannot see how anyone would be able to legitimately follow (and pay attention to) more than 2,000 people. Frankly, even that limit seems higher than it needs to be. If it helps keep Twitter a little more stable, go for it. - Dennis Metzcher
Couple thoughts: the limit impacts the ability to use the service as a direct message router -- for some people. It also reinforces the need for dectralized microblogging -- so if you want exceed the limits you can do so on your own infrastructure. Lastly, nothing prevents you from following everyone or a subset of people through RSS/feeds. - Chris Messina
Are we sure that Twitter has set a 2,000 limit are or we cranking up the rumor mill? I've seen image before with respect to my own account - an account which just reached 1,000 followers today. According the Twitter rep who contacted me, I got - ahem - put in "Twitter Prison" for "Aggressive Following" My ratio of Followers to Following was kinda out of whack - at that time I had only ~800 people following me while I was following ~2,800 - They suspended my ability to follow more people. I removed 2K. - Vincent Wright
I don't understand the motivation for following 2K people if you're not a spammer... someone explain? - Jason Carreira
Jason: For a entrepreneur/VC/angel networker, it would be very easy to hit 2,000 contacts (assuming you used Twitter like a rolodex). From one networking meeting, I might pick up 0-100+ business cards (more at conferences), and during a heavy season I could be doing 7-10 meetings/week. As a angel, I might want to follow 5,000-10,000+ projects/people. Anyone might have a really good project 2-10+ years down the pipe... I've got cartons/boxes of 3-ring binders of business cards in plastic sheets. - Mitchell Tsai
@Mitchell @Charlie - Rumors aside, do you think the cap is a gesture towards monetization? Going after the power networkers? Seems you would have good cause to pay for a Twitter Pro, or would it just not be worth it? - joneilortiz
I use Twitter as both a professional development tool (following people who say useful and interesting things abt health / edtech / social media / libraries ...), a personal tool (friends and folk who are amusing), and a reference tool (following a lot of news streams and information resources). You can hit 2000 fast. A friend says that people are imagining new ways in which Twitter could be used, but Twitter seems bound and determined to force them back into some small box of how it "ought" to be. - Patricia F. Anderson
I would happily follow more than 2000 people, heck I am almost there. And I don't need to see every message. With Tweetdeck it's manageable. I see some Friendfeed users here have thousands to tens of thousands of subscriptions, should we also say it's good to have a cap here? No, please no. I understand that perhaps it has to do with monetization or stressing the system less, these are alas viable reasons. - Jacob
