it's really hard to find new, good podcasts. Just went through 2 pages of search results here at FriendFeed and didn't find anything I wanted to listen to more than Stack Overflow and twit. Those i already knew about. :( What's your iTunes podcast window look like? hint hint, suggestions?

I created my own widget using feedburner's RSS setup and some CSS code, so as I can get my entire lifestream, as set up on FF, to show up. Since I'm a crappy web designer, I may end up using the FF widget, after all... :/ Can we also use Yahoo Pipes on the Widget? I'm thinking of using Rasheen's duplicate removal setup, once he gets it to work...

FYI: Adding the widgets (other than the "Share on FriendFeed" link) to self-hosted WordPress requires zero knowledge of WordPress templates. You login to WordPress, click on "Design", then "Widgets", and add a "text" widget and paste in the code.

I don't feel like my friendfeed content meshes very well with my blog. I enjoy friendfeed quite a bit, but I don't really feel the need to try to get more people to look at my friendfeed. I did try it a couple months ago before it was really public, when I noticed it on your blog, Paul. I do use the friendfeed comment plugin. Maybe I will add a share on friendfeed button.

From my point of view: How exactly would it help the readers of Blogoscoped? What's the problem it would solve? Not everything I say on Friendfeed is relevant to the content of Blogoscoped. Now, give me a widget that I can customize to make it be relevant just to a single specific blog post and I will give it a try perhaps... an RSS feed for "comments on URL xyz" (where I can make xyz be a Blogoscoped permalink of a new post) would be interesting :)

Dennis: that is by design so that long comments don't cause the widget to be super long in narrow places. You can make comments wrap with this CSS: .friendfeed.widget .feed .entry .comment { white-space: normal !important; }

That's too funny. It would be great to see some sort of mashup of everyone's take on that chart. I happen to love grapefruit and find plums far too messy to bother with. It was a Plymouth Reliant K Car, but it escapes me whether it was 81, 82, or '83 model. I really didn't like the car. People thought I was the undercover detectives every time I came around. Besides, I originally wanted a standard Mustang, but the so-called car expert my mother sent to go car shopping with me said the Reliant would be a better car for my travels back and forth to college. Wrong he was, it was a piece of crap and ugly to boot.

I'd avoid dreamhost, they once took it upon themselves to robots.txt block search engine spiders on my sites because "I was using too many resources". They massively oversell shared hosting. It's ok for small sites, but anything resembling good traffic and they ride the fail whale

Understanding that almost ALL shared hosting has problems now and then, I can't really recommend one, but I would say to avoid some of the bigger names (GoDaddy, Dreamhost, iPower). You get what you pay for in cheap mass hosting, really.

Contegix, Contegix, Contegix. Honestly, just try it. They are so amazing it's not even funny. They are a managed hosting company, so you will pay more for their services, but they literally can replace most of your IT functions in your company. It's crazy how good and responsive they are. They also do a lot of great stuff for open source (hosting opensymphony.com, openqa.org, springframework.org, various Apache projects, etc). They are good people.

If you are looking for Windows hosting and you need a SQL Server database and are considering GoDaddy, be aware that they do not let you connect to your db with Enterprise Manager so your only choice if you ever want to make a backup or change hosts is to pay more than $100 to have the make a backup for you. Otherwise the hosting there is ok. If you need Windows hosting with good SQL Server access look at CrystalTech.com.

Whatever you do, don't go with AITcom.net. Their service really sucks! I've had nothing but problems with their Windows server with Front Page extensions. I have had decent service with a Linux server from them though. They do have 24/7 support, but if they are having a global issue, good luck getting through to tech support.

I've hosted several small sites on Dreamhost for five years. Really no issues, it's dirt cheap hosting. I do recommend MediaTemple and Slicehost if you want to do something a little more serious.

Very interesting. I always wondered what would happen if TinyUrl one day shut its doors. Think of the hundreds of thousands (millions?) of links that would be rendered unusable. If there was a way to save a list of those links locally, that would be very useful down the road.
