Fascinating on process, about stopping in the middle of chapters and using editing of the previous days work to get going. I'll try that with coding; not forcing myself to finish something before stopping, and using refactoring to get going the next day...

Scala has Erlang inspired Actors if you want to stay on the jvm. Wonder if that is enough to realize the potential of future multi-core architectures... I'm currently working with both :)

@Amund: Sure :) Currently I'm using Erlang in a distributed, robust state aggregation framework; not yet production ready.

@Amund(2), and Scala I'm using as a more convenient implementation language for a RESTful servlet API based on Jersey/JSR311. The syntax is much terser than java for bean-like structures, and the built-in xml syntax eliminates the need for a templating layer.

My mom barely, just barely uses e-mail, but she enjoys watching Taiwanese TV over the internet. It's amazing traveling the world in hostels, watching people IM their moms over the free internet connections. In 1984, going to Europe was a real distancing thing with very expensive phone calls home. Now free Skype at some hostels. Grandma turned 102 this year.
