Food Trucks Sells Drugs - Taco Truck Shut Down for Selling Marijuana, Meth -
"According to CBS San Francisco, police recently busted a taco truck that was a front for a meth and marijuana business. The undercover sting operation was aptly dubbed, "Operation Dirty Taco." More From Delish: Beyond Basic Tacos and Toppings Brothers Juan and Ernesto Paez are accused of selling drugs to undercover agents via their taco truck. The undercover sting operation lasted three months and found that customers looking for drugs would come to the truck and order meth or marijuana. They were served the drugs in the same Styrofoam containers as the food." - Steve C, Team Marina from Bookmarklet

"So, depending on how much flesh clings to the skin of your tomatoes when you peel them and how much you reduce your stock, I’d estimate you will get 1 pint of finished sauce for every 6 to 9 pounds of canning tomatoes you peel and core. This is a great way to eek as much possible goodness out of your harvest or hard-purchased tomatoes. From 90 total pounds of raw canning tomatoes, using this method to recapture sauce from the skins led to a total amount of composted waste of less than 3-and-a-quarter pounds. That’s a processing loss rate of about 3.5% which is, in my opinion, excellent." - Todd Hoff from Bookmarklet

When the iPhone debuted, it was widely criticized for having no buttons/keys. Now people think the iPhone’s design is “obvious.” -
The design isn't original largely because it has big problems. They aren't contradictory. - Todd Hoff
Though the point still stands that the vast majority of "commentators" found the design wrong and unworkable, and yet it turned out they were wrong and Samsung goes to far as to claim it was obvious; not very credible. - Winckel
For typing it's barely workable. They weren't wrong, people just can accept a lot more compromise than originally thought. It was totally obvious, touch interfaces are very old tech, they were just considered very down market. - Todd Hoff
barely workable is completely untrue. lots of people type emails and long posts on iPad, no difficulty at all. They were completely wrong because they said or suggested it wouldn't work or wouldn't get traction and both of those contentions were wrong. Touch may or may not have been old, multitouch aka workable touch was completely new. The pundits just knew less than Jobs & co about... more... - Winckel

Just to confirm Bret, the first image in the blog post is what the pop up is supposed to look like, right? Because that's nothing like what the page looks like.... - FFing Enigma
I notice that new subscriptions are automatically added to one's home feed. I consider that kind of a bug. - Meryn Stol
Tina: yes, that is correct. The page is just a list of people that we think could use some friend recommendations since they have few subscriptions. If you click on any of the "Recommend" links on that page, you will see the same, standard "Recommend friends" dialog. - Bret Taylor
User-driven...I like. - Josh Haley
Where would we find recommendations that others suggest to us? - Fred Yankowski

Bret, if I recommend friends to people who haven't signed in for a long time, will they get email? A lot of my bored friends are not active FF users I think. (quite logical) - Meryn Stol

Bret: You guys rock! This is so much better than FollowFriday, which I recommended just a while back. Now, I'm waiting for some recommendation emails! :) - Mahendra (SkepticGeek)
If there’s something about friends and family not having their account set up properly, I’d prefer a way to recommend them the streams they forgot to add. For example, I could tell them “You forgot to add your Digg stream and your fourth and eight blog. Here’s the link.” Then he could just click the recommendation and had it set up easily. - Natsuki Seika
Definitely better than #followfriday. - Bernie Goldbach
As I have lots of subscriptions the pop-up window is *really* slow and always has been since the new UI (same thing for amending friends lists). :-( I like the feature though, so I could make a new friends list of my most recommended users and use that each time for each user? - Kol Tregaskes

US Air Force testing Mach 6 aircraft
"The U.S. Air Force plans a key test of an experimental aircraft designed to fly at six times the speed of sound, or about 3,600 mph (5,800 kph). The aircraft is intended to allow the Pentagon to deliver strikes around the globe within minutes. The Los Angeles Times reports the unmanned X-51 WaveRider is expected to reach Mach 6when it's dropped by a B-52 bomber and takes flight off the California coast. Engineers hope it sustains its top speed for 300 seconds, twice as long as it's gone before. In its most recent test last year, the Boeing-designed X-51 fell for about four seconds before its booster rocket ignited, but the aircraft failed to separate from the rocket and plunged into the ocean." - Winckel from Bookmarklet
I for one will sleep better in my bed knowing the US government can bomb the crap out of people across the globe at Mach 6, rather than at more pedestrian speeds. Or not. - Winckel

Cogoo has turned the wheels of the bicycle into turntables, the handlebars into the crossfader, and the brakes into samplers. The bike can be wirelessly connected to the DJ app Traktor to let the rider perform some unique tricks while blasting out some cool mixes. I was idly looking at Mac Minis and noted that a fully loaded one with an 2.7GHz Intel i7 + 8 GB RAM + 750 GB HD costs $1,200+. But then I looked at how much the CPU alone costs and it's somewhere between $500-$600. 8 GB (4 GB x 2) of 1066 MHz DDR3 SDRAM is at least $100 from reputable manufacturers. The 750 GB hard drive is probably another $100
When you add in the motherboard, the video card, the case, and the power supply, how much money am I really going to save building my own machine? - Victor Ganata
Well, and then you have to divide by RAGEFACE when the components don't quite fit together correctly or the firmware requires an update... via floppy. - Jennifer Dittrich
You have flexibility to choose a great dedicated graphics card instead of being stuck with a mobile GPU. - Rodfather
Consumer Electronics vs Computers - Johnny
Yeah, being to plug in a decent video card is an advantage, but a decent video card would easily make such a system a lot more expensive. I guess it really all depends on how likely I think I'll accidentally fry my components, and my track record is… not good. - Victor Ganata
You can still build a good gaming rig without the latest and greatest components. Usually the latest CPU's are way expensive retail. It's mostly on the GPU that determines the performance for games in high res. - Rodfather
When I liked building a gaming rig, I looked for components somewhere between the mid-range and high-end guides. Like from the guides from Anandtech to know what's out there. This one was from late 2011 and I imagine those same components are a lot cheaper now. - Rodfather
I guess the prices haven't really dropped all that much in the last 7 months or so. The three systems they cover correspond pretty well to the Mac Minis with the low-end i5, the high end i5, and the i7. It really comes down to deciding between a good video card and the convenience of not having to put everything together and having it covered by a comprehensive warranty for a year… - Victor Ganata
I haven't been into the latest 3D shooters lately, so having the fastest rig isn't much of a priority. I'm fine with the iMac. It'll run Skyrim fine, but would probably struggle at max settings in Crysis 2 at that resolution. For MMOGs, you don't need much at all. I picked up the iMac more for video/photo editing. The highest priority was the screen. I wanted the cinema display for its color gamut. - Rodfather
Can't you get a place like NCIX to build it for you? - Andrew C (✔)
Yeah, I guess lately I've just been playing Blizzard games almost exclusively. Doesn't take much power to run WoW, D3, or SC2 :D But I'm worried that MoP and SC2: HotS might finally push my 3+ year MBP beyond its ability to cope. - Victor Ganata
I'm sure there are a lot of other options about where I can get a machine, but I've really gotten spoiled by the fact that there are two Apple stores less than 2 miles away, where I've been able to walk-in with a minimal wait, and they'll fix my system in less than an hour or completely replace it. - Victor Ganata
It's just too bad they use mobile graphics chips. The iMac I have has a Radeon HD 6770M in it. When looking at the benchmarks, dedicated graphics cards are over twice as fast. - Rodfather
Heh, yeah, I guess the best they've got are the graphics cards in the MBPwRDs - Victor Ganata

The other thing that cracks me up is how certain everyone is about how their own retinal anatomy and physiology is somehow drastically different from everyone else's. "Even if nobody else can see the pixels at that distance, *I* can" - Victor Ganata
Not all rods and cones are the same, Victor. :D - Scoble, Alex Scoble
I'll concede that rods and cones have variations (although the major differences don't affect resolution, they affect color or brightness detection), but the people who makes these claims are also always disappointed when no one can tell them what the resolution of the retina is. - Victor Ganata
We seriously don't know the resolution of the human eye? That's odd considering we can tell what it can discern at distance x. - Scoble, Alex Scoble
We know the resolution of the human eye, but it's not in PPI. - Victor Ganata
What is it? - Scoble, Alex Scoble
If you have 20/20 vision, you can discriminate between two points 1 arcminute apart, but acuity is greatest at the fovea, and significantly decreased in the periphery. - Victor Ganata

Pokes Eric in the eyes and slaps his head. "Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk, nyuk, nyuk!" - Scoble, Alex Scoble
