"Fox News often cites poll results from the site (I admit, I watch the lunch show, it's better than Dr. Nancy on msnbc). However, even though I've long seen these polls skewed by Reddit and other communities, never have I seen or heard of any instances where they were referenced on the air. The polls referenced on the air are always results which make me go "Yeah right!" Has anyone ever seen a poll that was on Reddit that was "beaten" by the reasonable and logical land on the air?"

"What kind of terrible debate is this? How about I jump in the debate and say that immediately after a human dies, his soul becomes entombed in a new G.I. Joe action figure coming off the assembly line. **Prove me wrong.** The bottom line is, you don't know, I don't know and he doesn't know. He choses to make some random shit up with no basis in reality so he can sleep at night."

vocino on The cure for cancer has been found, but nobody can make money from it: A double-blind placebo controlled trial shows that Vitamin D taken with calcium can reduce risk of ALL cancer by at least 76% - http://www.reddit.com/r...
"**Nobody can make money from it?!** You've got to be kidding. The vitamin industry is HUGE. They fund these types of studies on an ongoing basis year-round. Large companies, many of which are overseas but have a significant front in the US (like Shaklee Corporation). I'm not saying it's some type of stupid conspiracy or anything. I'm just noting that there is huge money to be made in marketing significant findings from as-legit-as-possible studies showing supplements cure/prevent disease. **BIG money**."

vocino on What's with all the people panicking about 2012? How could millions of people believe something made up by an ancient culture, and not believe current scientific data? - http://www.reddit.com/r...
"No one seems to remember the hysteria leading up to **Y2K** (as it was hyped by every news network). The banks were going offline, ATMs were useless, the phone system was crashing, and don't get caught in an elevator! This was the mainstream media talking about this stuff as serious news. No one remembers that? At least the 2012 nonsense is somewhat relegated to fringe idiots still."

vocino on Does being an Atheist affect your decision in the Doctor you choose? If so, how did you find one with similar beliefs? - http://www.reddit.com/r...
"This may be an odd question but seriously, I always felt like being a real doctor and a traditional christian were mutually exclusive. I've never met a doctor that was more than an Einstein-esque higher power universe awe type person. How does one practice modern medicine whilst denying biological evolution? That seems intellectually impossible."

"To be fair, the person that wrote the book wasn't actually there. It's not easy to write a complete work with zero errors using only a collection of ideologies, some input from marketing people and perhaps some random audio tapes recorded during the subject's commute or while she's cooking."

"I don't agree. Choosing to take that lack of evidence you describe and fill it with God is fine (although I personally think it's illogical) but that still isn't *religion* in terms of a particular dogma rooted in some type of revisionist history, e.g. Christianity (the one in question in this thread). I do indeed believe that a faith in the tenants of Christianity as defined by any honest reading of the Bible or a majority of leaders in the faith requires a breakdown of critical thinking to accept."
- Travis Vocino
"How can I say that I have the truth any more than they do? Uhm... evidence. Mountains of fucking evidence. This isn't about atheism vs. christianity. It's about critical thinking vs. blind faith. Elsewhere in the thread someone made the very astute recommendation that the correct response to the person's son would have been "What do *you* think?" That is exactly right. Would you do the same with your child's math test? Can they just put whatever makes them feel good or whatever they personally believe and it's ok? The *right* and *wrong* isn't with the conclusion, it's with the method you teach your children to employ to get to that conclusion."

"What is this retarded point doing here? Yes my friend, getting your kid to drink kool-aid for a moon monster is indoctination, getting him to wash behind his ears isn't. One is good, one is bad. One is real, one is not. Get it now?"
- Travis Vocino
"Addressing those issues comes down to teaching people critical thinking skills from a young age—something that religion is diametrically opposed to. **Evangelizing critical thinking and skepticism is often confused with "atheism"**, when actually, one is just the product of another."
