as a libertarian, its his choice as to who is his running mate...as a human being i am unashamedly embarrassed by her, she has done more the prospects of the Democratic party than one could have imagined - David Blumenstein
via twhirl
Sarah Palin is on the wrong side of libertarians, traditional conservatives, traditional Republicans, traditional Americanism, traditional liberals, traditional Christians, etc. The Republican Party has been hijacked by neoconservatives, religious extremists, Judeo-Christian fascists, Dominionists, etc. who have launched an all-out assault on every basic American value. The Republican Party may not survive the experience. She is basically George W. Bush in skirts. - Sean McBride
Gotta disagree, I'm old school republican, small government-low taxes, and I'm 100% for Palin - Daltonsbriefs
Sigh. Less government I guess includes abusing your powers as governor of Alaska. Again still waiting for reality-based assessments. - Rick Powell
Jason, those of us who consider ourselves "old school" Republicans, conservatives or Libertarians have been pushed aside by the Republican Party. It may be time for Libertarians to gain a foothold. They just need to stop sounding batshite crazy! - Mark VandenBerg
So tell me, Charles and Dalton, what do you think of the outcome of the Palin investigation? - Alexander Carlill

Corrections and additions welcome to the two previous comments. - Sean McBride
Palin drives liberals even more crazy than they already are. Good enough for me. - Spencer Scott
Spencer Scott - do you agree with my profile of Sarah Palin supporters? - Sean McBride
I have some libertarian leanings (although I'm more centrist) but I'm more annoyed with Republicans talking about fiscal responsibility and smaller government and then never, ever, delivering. That includes the Gov. - Michael Kowalchik
Nice work, Sean. It's like a tag cloud of ignorance. What makes you say Akiva is a Palin supporter? Never seemed like the type to me. - Alexander Carlill
Perhaps I'm mistaken about Akiva -- that's why I asked for corrections. I vaguely remember him defending Palin on several occasions. I wonder how many people on the list are religious fundamentalists, creationists, Iran War supporters, etc. Simple data mining to get a handle on this phenomenon. - Sean McBride
What if all the the religious fundamentalists and extremists in the U.S. moved to Alaska and seceded? What a lovely thought. :) Let them have their own country, and let the United States get back on track on the vision forged by the Founding Fathers. - Sean McBride
Palin = ignorance, arrogance, dishonesty = more of the same as the current administration - Rod Bauer
via twhirl
The fact that Palin managed to behave like Bush without nearly as much corrupting power says a lot about her character, though. - Alexander Carlill
Alexander, I can only assume you're referring to Sean McBride. He's the only person I have blocked on FriendFeed. He's a 9/11 Troofer troll who has a rather creepy obsession with me (probably because I'm Jewish and he's anti-Israel and possibly anti-Semitic as well). He thinks he knows me better than I know myself and kept chasing me around FriendFeed trying to start fights. So, uh, good luck with that. - Akiva Moskovitz
It's always entertaining to see mental meltdowns among religious fundamentalists like Akiva. He made three false statements in his comment: I am not a 9/11 "Troofer," not anti-Israel and not remotely antisemitic -- in fact I rely heavily on Jewish pundits for my own political analysis. I have strongly opposed neoconservatives and Christian Zionists at the extremist end of the political spectrum, but Akiva Moskovitz has never been able to debate me on these issues. Notice that Akiva didn't deny that he is a Sarah Palin supporter -- I think we can safely assume that he is. - Sean McBride
Akiva is himself a neoconservative, but he can't defend his emotional beliefs on this subject. No neocons on Friendfeed or anywhere else can -- they are essentially irrational cultists. I am still curious to know whether he unwittingly or wittingly selected the name of a famous fictional Jewish terrorist from Leon Uris's Exodus for his handle -- that would be a very Likudnik move. Akiva and I first came to loggerheads when I expressed strong opposition to an American attack on Iran, and pointed out that my position was supported by the American military and intelligence establishments. Akiva is hoping that McCain and Palin will attack Iran. - Sean McBride
Regarding the easy way in which Akiva throws around the antisemitism smear to try to escape real political debate -- he is very much out of touch with the majority of American Jews on both religious and political issues. A large majority of Jews opposed the Iraq War. The smear tactics are perfectly consonant with the methods used by Sarah Palin. - Sean McBride
Wow Sean, talk about the pot calling the kettle black. - Jason Huebel
I was a Republican before Reagan took office and my picture of Ronald Reagan is still hanging out in Silicon Valley's Republican Party. The religious wackos so turned me off to conservative principles that I could NEVER support Palin. Any libertarian who supports her and thinks she is for less government makes me really depressed. Her record already demonstrates she's for more government and, worse of all, for government that takes away people's rights. - Robert Scoble
Be warned, McBride'll keep going on and on as long as you keep feeding him. He'll say a lot of things about me that appear on the surface to have substance but they're based on empty assumptions. He will be unable to back any of it up except to suggest that because I choose not to engage him it means that he's right about all of his assessments. For the record, I'm not a Palin supporter. She's entertaining to watch but that's about it. Or is that Tina Fey? I can't remember now. - Akiva Moskovitz
Akiva, I realise that he's prone to exaggeration. Hence the fact that I questioned your presence in that list.. - Alexander Carlill
Alexander, I don't think much of it all. The trooper in question clearly has abused his power much more than Palin ever did. In the end, it sounds a lot like the "scandal" over the firing of attorneys general: much ado about nothing. But keep in mind, per Scoble and McBride, I'm one of those "religiosu whackos" that is standing in the way of true ___, whether we are talking about true conservatism or the truly golden age of Obama. - Charles LePage
Republican Libertarian? Does that mean you check whatever box lies between John McCain and Bob Barr on the ballot? - Ernie Oporto
This libertarian turned away from the Republicans eight years ago, and just laughs at Palin. Any Republican should feel insulted by this cynical choice. - Michael Hart
It appears that Sean McBride has fallen victim to Sara Palin syndrome. A form of the violent reaction liberals have to any conservative that doesn't fit their stereotype of ignorant white male redneck (see extreme abuse of Condi Rice). Palin energized the GOP base that viewed McCain as a RHINO. She is closer to the average American than your typical bi-coastal liberal. - Robert Hafer
Robert, that's her problem. She's too average and ordinary. She's not smart or special enough to be elected. Whereas Obama, despite a history of abuse of power, despite not being able to explain the simplest of things like how he actually was able to afford Harvard, is the smart person we have been waiting for. - Charles LePage
Looks like it's block time for Charles. And Robert, as a European (oh shit!) liberal, Palin definitely fits my stereotype of ignorant white female redneck. Except she's got abuse of power and weird secessionist links thrown in as well. Is it not worth having a VP who's above average? - Alexander Carlill
So what's wrong with being liberal, isn't that what libertarian's are? Live and let live... - Andy Davies
As a woman AND a Libertarian, I was insulted by her the moment that she was picked, and her beliefs and shenangians were thrown out for public perusal. She is for less government in name only, and will only be for less government if she gets to stuff her cronies from Alaskan Independence Party and from her church in Federal posts. Not to mention her voiced desire to set women's rights back by about 50 years. - Mavericks of Troy, NV!
I'm pointing out that McCain / Palin is not a dream ticket for Conservatives, but is far better than Obama / Bidden and their bashing of Middle Americans and attacks on our young people in uniform. The majority of people in "fly over country" own guns, go to church and don't want to live on the Government dole. - Robert Hafer
The attorney general's scandal was *not* much ado about nothing. The firing of Carol Lam, the U.S. attorney who busted Duke Cunningham, was *clearly* a political act that severely damages the credibility of the U.S. attorney's office. Notice that Roberto Gonzales is no longer attached to the Bush administration, in part because of his indiscretions in this regard. Are you a fan of corruption and increased crime, Charles? - Victor Ganata
Condemning an entire town or even state because of the actions of a few is almost as bad as the sign itself. - Michael Tefft
Michael, if this kind of thing were to happen in a large city, I could see the validity in your statement. But this occurred in a town of 10,866 people. This is a shining example of small-town values. I'm not saying that everyone from a small town is this racist. But this kind of racism comes specifically from small towns. - Chris Menning
Chris, that statement is as bad as your original statement. Shining example of small-town values? What an outrageous statement. Large city values are better than small town values? I don't see anything on the sign that says 10,866 people endorsed the sign. - Michael Tefft
That's a rather extreme bias against small towns. Having lived in burgs of all sizes, I can say most small towns are known for their infighting and gossiping...not racism. Any isolated group may--and may not necessarily--exhibit behaviours that prejudice them against others not like them. This definitely happens in huge cities, too. - abacab
Michael, we have Sarah Palin trying to sell us the idea that small towns bear people who have superior values to people from larger cities, and we see a sign like this that looks like it's calling for a return to lynchings. Granted, there are bigots everywhere, but show me an example of something so blatantly ignorant as this sign in any place that's populated with large numbers of minorities. It's just a simple case of people from a segregated area having irrational fears. - Chris Menning
Aside from the "racist" part, their accusations are pretty spot on. 0Bama wants severe gun regulation, he wants federal funded abortions, etc. - Spencer Scott
The question is: is the billboard still up? That's what will really demonstrate the quality of this particular small town. - Victor Ganata
Chris, maybe I am naive, but in what way does this sign call for a return to lynchings? I have seen caricatures of Obama similar to this in the media and nothing that I have seen on the sign remotely refers to lynchings. Racism does not automatically equate to lynchings. - Michael Tefft
I agree with Victor, but we have free speech in America and how do you force someone to take something down if it is not violating any laws, even if you want to? There is no proof that the sign was put up with the consent of the city. - Michael Tefft
I'm all for 1st amendment rights, and if that's what the sign owner thinks, they're entitled to say it. But is there anybody in that town exercising their right to disagree? If not, it's hard not to assume that they all tacitly agree. - Victor Ganata
Is the racism against African-Americans or Muslims, or both? It the Dems candidate where white and the same sign with the same accusations were posted, would it be racist? I have seen similar terrible caricatures of Bush, Palin, and McCain that are used every day with no one complaining. - Michael Tefft
Victor, how do you exercise your rights to disagree? Put up a counter sign, take the law into your own hands and tear the sign down? I am a veteran and I see flags burned and I hate that but it is legal to do so. So if I don't beat up a demonstrator who is burning the flag I am tacitly agreeing to it? - Michael Tefft
The turban is what puts it over the top. Even if Obama were a white guy, that would still make it racist. I'm not going to comment on how it's a typical caricature of a black guy, because I know I'll be accused of seeing things that I want to see. - Victor Ganata
Michael, yeah, a counter sign would be one example. A protest, perhaps. A letter to the editor in the local paper. Hell, a blog post or a tweet. On the other hand, assaulting someone or destroying private property is obviously illegal. What I'm curious about is the level of disagreement in West Plains. - Victor Ganata
They could have just said the same thing without the turban and highlighting his middle name. Instead they turned it into something else. I guess that kind of stuff still gets a lot of play in Missouri - you just don't see a whole lot of that bigotry in Vermont or Wyoming. - Ernie Oporto
Wow. This thread makes me want to go live in a shed in the mountains without tv or the internet. - ☺ Cecily ☺
I'm not surprised by this sign. I've been to West Plains, MO a few times (for work) and I wouldn't say that I didn't feel safe but everyone that saw me was sure to keep a close eye on me. The people that I spoke to were friendly enough but they are not used to having non-whites in their town. - Vaughn
That error's almost always attributable to a device driver rather than to Vista itself. - Akiva Moskovitz
If you were someone non-technical, would you know that? - AJ Batac ♘
No, which is why people senselessly hate Vista: they blame things on the OS that are not the OS's fault. - Akiva Moskovitz
Blue screens are either a) Driver issue b) Hardware problem. From my experiences - Shey
It actually helps if you Google the Error name (...THREAD_RETURNED_AT_BAD_IRQL), the stop number, and/or the driver file, to find a solution - Shey
That is probably 90% of its total users. The non-technical people who senselessly hate Vista. I'm technical, but I can't seem to understand why using a browser brings up the blue screen. If it was a device driver, it should do it once every often. But it only happens to me sparingly. - AJ Batac ♘
Happened to me recently on my vista machine. It was a video driver issue. - Mattb4rd
yeah, the only times I have faced blue screen problems have been when my hard disk was failing and when my graphics card drivers were corrupted. - Rahul Das
I think it's revolting against the Apple stickers. - Vaughn
Get it right, people! When MS products have Blue Screens, hanging issues or network connectivity problems, it's Microsoft's fault. When Apple products do this, it's because of Application Enhancer (not an Apple product), keyboard vendors or Cisco and AT&T. ;) - MiniMage LightBlueRanger
Perhaps the machine was reacting to those stickers you've placed mocking it...just sayin. - Mark Krynsky
It probably is Mark. Those are there to remind me to buy a Mac next time (actually, those are there to protect the laptop from discoloration from the wrists. :) http://friendfeed.com/e/201e8b... - AJ Batac ♘
The cream in my coffee this morning was curdled. Damn you Microsoft! - Sprague D
you can say that it is a problem with drivers, but MS has obviously never heard of something called "graceful fail" - it is after all Windows giving you the blue screen, not the driver. - Tim Hoeck
The only OS I've ever seen to provide a truly 'graceful fail' was OS/2. I once had OS/2 crash on me and restart itself while maintaining a Z-Modem file transfer without dropping a byte. Best OS that ever was. - Akiva Moskovitz
OS/2 was ahead of its time. In fact, it's object-oriented Workplace Shell is still far more advanced than what you have with Vista and OS/X. - Akiva Moskovitz
“I'm scared for the interwebz. Apparently people are still calling themselves Web Designers despite using M$ products to publish websites and having no idea what an FTP client is. *shudder*”
What is this, the 90's? Expression Web and Visual Studio are both very good web tools. Now, if they're using Frontpage, it's a completely different story. :-) - Jordan Hofker
I've had to explain to "web designers" what FTP is as well... how you can do your job without knowing that is beyond me. - Shey
Scarier? I've seen job postings that wanted me to know Frontpage...to which I could only respond Oh HELL no... - Jaemi Kehoe
My only web design experience is with Frontpage. Which is why I keep my design skills to myself :D - Yuvi
Whatever it takes to get the job done. Why the discrimination? - orionstarr
orionstarr, because you can't call yourself a web designer anymore these days without ever knowing what an FTP client is. - AJ Batac ♘
orionstarr: because Frontpage writes horrible code. So far as that goes, even Dreamweaver can write non-optimal code, if you don't know how to control it. A lot of employers these days want hand-coders, which is not what people use Frontpage for. Everyone has to start somewhere, but most employed designers will unite on the fact that Frontpage is not good. - Jaemi Kehoe
If they're using Microsoft Expression Web or Visual Studio, they can get a pass. But if someone is actually using these products, and DOESN'T know what FTP is... that's a problem. - Nathan Chase
You shouldn't be charging people for your services unless you know what you're doing. Frontpage is a common tipoff that the person doesn't know what they are doing coupled with the fact that they have no idea how to use an FTP client. I started with table based design on Adobe GoLive. But that was all personal use until I learned how I should be doing it. As an added note, you should recognize that you don't know what you're doing and make an effort to learn the proper way to do them. - Lindsey Smith
I just noticed my copy of FrontPage 2000 sitting on my CD stack. I had to wipe off the dust to read the CD case. But well before that -- in the days of static HTML 1.0 -- FrontPage still mangled good HTML form. That didn't stop us from rolling it out across our product group as an "easy" authoring solution. - David Muir
Using frontpage for webdesign is like designing you're print collateral in MS Word. - orionstarr
FTP? hmmm... Is that FaceBook Tracking Protocol, Frontpage Training Program, or FriendFeed somethingorother? I forget - and my IDE help is no help... - Kevin Johnson
FTP stands for FaceBook Training Program naturally since Facebook is pretty much the only thing on the internet worth anything :P - Lindsey Smith
How bout this guys, I've seen people put down websites they designed on their resume and they start with myspace.com LMAO! - orionstarr
I remember when everyone went nuts over HoTMetaL Pro >.< - alphaxion
There's a difference between a web *designer* and a web *developer* but these days ppl want both with added IT skills. I once saw a job ad for a graphic designer that needed to have a Comp Sci degree! @_@ I'm a front-end webdev and I'm really lucky to have experience with Visual Studio, in fact that's the reason I got the freelance gig I have now. Too few webby ppl know Visual Studio. You have to stay up with what the industry uses! - zoblue (Zulema ❤'s you)
Hands down you should know FTP -and- how to resolve passive FTP settings. You should not use Frontpage ever or for any reason. You should either hand-code or use software that doesn't add junk into your code. I only like Dreamweaver because of how the code is colored and formatted. I never use the visual editors -- that's where some junk gets added because you let the software have a mind of its own. I think that if you call yourself a web designer you should also be so inclined to do your own graphic design and typesetting. I've met so many people that call themselves web designers but they haven't even moved out of tables yet and they don't know what CSS is. It depresses me. - Brandon
I actually only used Frontpage once and that was to edit a SharePoint site's 'theme'. I was like coding with my elbows! >.< But since I had to remote into another machine I had to use what that machine had installed. Never again! - zoblue (Zulema ❤'s you)
Something makes me doubt this person can design very well either. As an added point . . . even if you're just on the design end, you should have an understanding of HTML and CSS to make you a better *web* designer - Lindsey Smith
I used FrontPage once. I was curious. My curiosity only lasted a few minutes. It was some years ago now anyway. - Ian May
a lot of small businesses call for FP only because the boss's wife or kid made a page in FP, then moved on . those people then think that FP is the pinnacle of usage. i've done tons of sites in FP. i one of my biz sites in FP because my host made it easier to use FP. but willingly? no way. - Faboo Mama
I have never used FP, DW, or any of that crap to create a webpage. Never. Especially after seeing the code they created and having to modify/maintain it. - Rah™
I prefer EditPlus at this point. Though a lot of people seem to want you to know DW in combination with being able to hand code. Probably because they own the Adobe suite. But I'd kind of like to see DW drop from the list of must-know software, leaving just the image creation, or other stuff. - Jaemi Kehoe
Quite the gap between the M$ products FrontPage/Access and VisualStudio/SQL. - Andrew Smith
you know, I see myself as a 'fringe' geek mainly because I cant fully code in any language although I know enough to fix a lot of code that I come across if I need to - html, php, java, c# etc (all in text editors, none of that dropanddrag stuff).. but when I hear shyte like this, it makes me think that I'm a lot more of a geek than I give myself credit for... Web designers my ass!!! - Kim
I'm more of a designer, I can't do the back end stuff. But I at least know how things work and what is what. - orionstarr
Nothing's wrong with DW... if you're always in source mode. :) I can see how some people might not know "FTP" because I've seen file transfers via Windows explorer. - Arlan Koizumi
I use DW always in source mode. Mainly use it to autocomplete things I'm typing and making formatting a lot easier. Plus I get to create my own reusable code and their site management tools, - Lindsey Smith
@lindsey I like dw too in source mode for the autocomplete and I also like the text coloring and formatting. :) - Brandon
9/11? What happened on 9/11? Oh right, 9/11 happened on 9/11. I remember 9/11. Have I said it enough yet McCain? 2 more? OK. 9/11...yes, 9/11. - Matt Harwood
yeah - that's a *serious* problem. anyone else think McCain team is being sexist toward Palin? - MikeAmundsen
Obama - he came in with lower expectations and he's holding his own. Sounds confident, knows his shit. This is supposed to be McCain's ballpark and he's not managing to pull out any home runs. - Eric
honestly I thought McCain lost it two nights ago... but I don't really know. This country can be surprising. - Richard Walker
“Really McCain?!? I've talked to several people who have been in Iraq, fighting. And they hate the fact that they had to go and think that its a big mistake. And some of them have suffered mentally for it.”
Hahahahahaha; please tell me thats photo shopped.... - J. Abdul-Qahhar
if that's not shopped, then that's just sad. - Faboo Mama
i don't know if it is photoshopped ... i found it on a friend's tumblr. he found it somewhere else. it's so outrageous and offensive and funny all at once. - tiffany
I like Heroes... it was one of the few good series on the "big 3" last year. - Lindsay Donaghe
I like it too. Looking forward to watching it tomorrow night. - imabonehead
I liked it, but I was unhappy with last season and didn't mind that it was seriously abbreviated by the writers' strike. I'm waffling about watching it tomorrow. - Nine (sawsome aus)
I've only seen the first season but i LOVED it - Lindsey Smith
The quality has dropped off big time. After season 1's finale, I was severely disappointed - Bwana McCall
I really enjoyed the first season but agree with the others that season 2 was somewhat of a let down. Still looking forward to tomorrow's epi. - Vaughn

Akiva's just joking, of course he loves good TV like Lost and Heroes. He's just in a mood or something. - Josh Haley
I'm always in a mood. (And I don't like Heroes or Lost.) - Akiva Moskovitz
I'm actually looking forward to the weekend ending so that it is time for the premier on Monday! - Walt Ruppar
I'm a Heroes fan.....looking forward to the show starting again. - Colide81 (James)
I hear this season's gonna be way better. I'm willing to give it a chance, can't wait to see it on Tuesday morning (i have no cable) - Nate True
Looking forward to it tomorrow evening :) - AJ Batac ♘
I am, I am! :D So happy the show is back! - Daynah
It's the only TV show I used to watch when it was playing... Looking forward to the new season! - Vincent X
I started watching Heroes because back then there was no good TV shows on, and then got hooked into it due to the mystery and suspense. - imabonehead
OK. I admit to watching way too much TV... but I am a Heroes fan and agree that last season was seriously disappointing. However, the Season 3 premiere episode is (supposedly) back up to Season 1 standards. - David Muir
Yep, love it, though don't know when it's next on here :-( - Kol Tregaskes
Love it! Last season wasn't the best, but I'm eagerly awaiting the season premiere tonight. - Cheryl Jones
The premiere was pretty good. A few nice reveals and twists to start off the season in an intriguing way, but there were some characters who were acting stupidly. I'll be watching this season, definitely. - Cheryl Jones
This South-African thief decided that the best place for him to rob would be a museum, and without any careful planning picked its lock and went in. That’s when things started going terribly wrong, the alarm went off, he panicked and decided to make a run for it. He climbed a tree in the museum yard and tried to jump over the spiked fence. But as always, karma comes back and bites you in the arse…or impales you, in this case. His jump wasn’t as good as he hoped and a metal spiked penetrated his…well, you know. - Carlos Ayala
